Re: Suggestions for Switching from iOS to Android (Pixel 4)

So, For those who have a samsung device and are able to upgrade to Android 10, there's three noticable additions I have found:1. While using an app such as youtube and you're in the "published/premiered on" description box, you can now do a 3-finger-swipe-down to access available links. Go through said links via left/right flicks, and tap/double-tap on one.2. There's a new "Light Sensor" feature now, for thos who need it. It does exactly what it says, tells you if it's light or dark, either via sound or voice.3. The "enhanced focus" feature (which talkback had for a little while already) is now apart of Voice Assistant. Not only it's more accurate in my view, the "toggle" to turn it on/off remains available to you (unlike what Google did with Talkback removing said checkbox, as far as I know anyway...)Bonus! The Bixby voice called Lisa, can now be used as a screen reader voice!FYII am now running the official Android 10 with !UI 2.0, which is now "out of beta!"T- Mobile FTW!

Re: myTrueSound feedback and some comments related to audiogaming

HiThanks a lot for all your comments. It has been very interesting to read all of them as they were coming. This type of communication is very valuable for us. For instance, few of you have been talking about Steam (thanks cj89 for your link about accessibility in Steam). That information will help us a lot, in order to make the things better and avoid possible mistakes. Hopefully we have time to check the things properly I can't now comment individually to each comment, but I would like to say something else yet. Sometimes people says that the community is a bit hard or negative on developers. But shit, look at all your comments! Most were encouraging us to continue with the work and told that the game was great and enjoyable. The others, went to topics like piracy and steam that are very important for me to read, and absolutely all were written very politely and in a very constructive way. That kind of interaction is great. So I have nothing else to say that keep the comments coming. That would help us and other developers to learn from your experience. I wish you very good holidays and a very good 2020.DavidPs. Oh well. I have something else to say. I forgot on my first post to tell that we are working in parallel in a multiplayer version of AudioWizards. In parallel means that the work is done by a group of 7 students from gaming studies, that wanted to help us with the game design and the implementation of a first demo version. Let's see how far we can go with it, and hopefully we will send you some news about that by end of March.

Lol Jayde, there is a faux american diner I'm quite fond of which i visit sometimes who play a lot of fifties and early sixties stuff, and I admit that while there are some good things, there's a lot of very overly sapi, quite simplistic drek too. Your music collection sounds about as eclectic as mine. sometimes I'll put the hole folder and random, and am likely to find everything from Vivaldi to Vangellis to nes soundtracks, to the odd beatles tune .

Re: Fara, a new browser or downloadable roguelike

Well fights you can't win are a danger, though there are some things you can do to survive, EG craft yourself some gear, make sure to remember to eat, and of course practice the fine art of cowardice , since even if you can't use the /exit command to beat a hasty retreat, you can always get back to the world map by running straight out of an area, the jump command is useful too.Always inspect your enemies, and if they're too tough take note. My only problem in terms of combat is that it is a little lengthy to keep looking each time enemies move to check range. with NVdA at least, the quick actions window always turns up at the top, so you can speed actions up by hitting ctrl home to go to it and clicking from there, similarly you can always get to the edit area quickly. The only slightly problematic thing is finding the end of the log/beginning of the nearby list, since it's usually quicker to go from the bottom, hence the need for headings. With classes, if you mean the Astronomer's ability, I've tried the astronomer class, but I'm guessing whatever the benefit is, either I've not been around the world map at night to see it activate, or it is purely graphical and makes no difference. Besides in a game with so many interesting classes, only having one would be depressing .I admit at the moment I'm in two minds about Fara. ON the one hand I'm loving the exploration and complexity and all the locations, on the other I don't like the fact that I always feel rather stuck with  really progressing in the game due to the mapping problem, and that some of the screen navigating is a bit long winded at the moment, though I suspect if the waypoint thing were fixed I'd probably put up with that for the sake of an interesting game.

And fleeing is realy painful to master. A lot of keypressing and a huge time to check the history window.I think i will retire this first character and check out if there are new classes available.Unfortunately there is no manual for this game at all. The helpscreen only covers the basics.I will wait if the developer will answer the requests.Oh, and one last thought for now:@Dark: Maybe there is a special class ability to help you with all this tracking and quest tracking?

@Arnald 18, I'd still like headings added to the screen and range info on the nearby list if at all possible, as it would  speed things up quite a lot and not be a huge change. Unfortunately though, it seems that the waypoint quest tracking is utterly impossible, I tried a bounty quest and looked all over the map, and there was no textual indication at all which square the bounty was on, and sadly since bounty quests seem most frequent this is a bit of a rather large stumbling block to the game.I also wonder what dungeons are like as well, though unlike most roguelikes, the nearby list hear seems pretty informative.

As far as I can see, not too many. A way to track quest targets on the world map, since right now that is %100 impossible as the text directions are very minimal and the graphical ones utterly inaccessible. That is the only thing I've found which is absolutely %100 impossible to do, indeed given that you can tell from looking at the descriptions of map areas where monsters and animals are, other types of quests might still be possible, it's just a shame that it seems bounty quests are most frequent.A few extra quality of life improvements would be to add some headings  the screen so you could navigate between different areas more quickly, and to add the range of visible objects, though you can always find this out by just looking with l. Re: When do you think were the best years of Pop music?

I find that a lot of pop music in the 50s and 60s was very simplistic and samey, and was mostly performed by teenage or just-past-teenage people moaning about innocent love. That's not true for all of it, and there are definitely some gems from that era, but personally it's not quite my thing. For me, I tend not to be really big into pop, no matter the time, though I don't mind some 80s and 90s pop sometimes. Truth to tell, I grew up on both classic rock and 90s alternative and that sort of thing, and found hundreds of bands I liked. My musical tastes have only broadened since then. If I stuck ten songs at random from my music collection into a list, you might get things as diverse as Eminem, Vanessa Carlton, Enya, Disturbed, Rod Stewart, Dream Theater, Pink Floyd, Huey Louis and the News, the Tragically Hip and a Final Fantasy track.

I'd say one change, the quest direction indication. The others just are cosmetic. It'd make life easier but the game is playable without them. On the other hand i still didn't receive a reply to my mail to the developer, so i don't know what to think.

@RTT entertainment, developers don't make addons or scripts for games, and in this case that would be wy overkill anyway, since what is needed adaptation wise is fairly minimal. Unfortunately, I've had a hunt around and the last contact I can see from the developer, even on patreon, was still May. I've sent a polite email but no response yet. If someone has Discord maybe trying there might be an issue. It's a shame, the adaptations required to make this one fully accessible are so minimal, and there is so much you can still do anyway.Has anyone had any luck with the quests? I wonder if those texts about "monster tracks going southeast" from certain squares tell you anything. It might also be worth asking on itch.io in case there are some indicators for quest locations we're just missing.

Re: When do you think were the best years of Pop music?

Not counting game soundtracks , I can't say I have a particular fondness for the eighties and nineties, but then again, most people go through a "if it's not band x/op 40 I won't listen to it" phase as a teenager, I went through an "if it doesn't have an orchestra I@m not listening to it" phase, with the possible exception of Jeff wane's war of the worlds .It wasn't until I got to university and met some friends who liked progressive rock and alternative stuff that I had my horizons broadened, and of course Mrs. Dark, despite a near encyclopedic knowledge of eighties pop is fairly broad in musical taste these days. So, assuming I'm not listening to soundtracks, straight up orchestral stuff (usually of the romantic and modern period),  or musical theatre, on the occasions I, and often Mrs.Dark listen to pop it's as likely to be the sixties as the eighties or early two thousands.Indeed, rather ironically the era  listen to least is the two thousand and tens .

Re: Suggestions for Switching from iOS to Android (Pixel 4)

@30, my point is that it shouldn't be dependent on whether one screen reader on one platform is better than another on another platform to determine that platforms "value", which is literally the basis of every supposed complaint about Android (bar a few app inefficiencies, which are apparently not universal). You *do not* need every single feature that voice over has to use iOS, do you? No, you don't. Those "extras" are luxuries -- enhancements to make the user experience a bit better. But not all of them are necessities. Perhaps if we didn't come in, guns blazing, towards accessibility teams like Googles accessibility team, we'd actually make some progress. But pro-iOS fans, with their hostile nature towards everything Google, doesn't help anything either. The reason I switched to Android several years ago was not just the temptations it offered: openness, full flexability to customize whatever I wanted, &c. The other reason was that I had had enough of Apples walled garden approach ("You are forbidden from using apps we say that you can't use") and the control they take away from the user. Though Google doesn't give you all the control you could ever want, they give you a lot more than Apple does. Does Google's app store plagued with viruses once and a while? Sure, but that's why Adroid has alternative app stores. Plus, Android has its own advantages; for example, people say that they can send iMesages on other Mac devices. I can send text messages from any device that has the ability to access the internet, interpret _javascript_ and execute web pages. I don't need to spend an extra thousand dollars just to be able to do that. And I can install apps that way too. But I digress. This hole battle between screen readers needs to end. A book shouldn't be judged on its cover, as they say, and a similar concept applies here.

Re: Manamon 2: Impressions Thread

Always remember to go back to the move tutor. Also, unless this got nerfed, try and do it with a lower level Gargaram, because you'll get Tactical Rush, which will be randomly holy or fighting but is 70 power and at early levels will beat the snot out of Power Punch.Tenshaino isn't bad, if you can get past the bit where I don't think it gets Staff Slash. Seriously, this is like a holy warrior, I think even its desc says it's an old man with a staff or something...so why doesn't it get Staff Slash? Nope, relies on White Lance, which has an accuracy penalty and far fewer use points.Angillish is a decent holy type. Sacraloon still looks pretty good to me as well. Myaneko is usable, but completely outclassed by virtually every other holy type out there. Bellaard is, again, usable, but doesn't quite get the coverage in its second typing I was hoping for. Caboerain is also nice, but (surprise, surprise) its best moves are Aquatic blitz and Lunar Cannon, which force you to split your train points or else not hit near as hard as you otherwise would. This doesn't absolutely bust a given manamon when it happens, but it's terribly unfortunate when speed is as important as it is for so much stuff.

Pegastorm doesn't overwhelm on either stat. It's a lot like Chimerus that way. Kind of trying to do everything, and in this game's meta, falling short of greatness because instead of maxing one attack stat and speed, you have to put points in both attack stats, which means you're slower, which means you die. Also, double weak to magic = ouchy!

This is generally known as dialogue attribution. Having it show up sometimes is absolutely and totally okay, but Aaron does it a lot. It is as if he's afraid of "said" and "asked". He likes things like "confirmed", "affirmed", and so on. And again, it's fine sometimes, but it's definitely awkward. Something an editor would have pointed out and maybe even fixed. For the record, I have edited ten published novels already. I'm not a professional, per se, I didn't go to school for it, but I know what I'm on about. lol Just in case anyone's curious about the credentials I'm falling back on here.

Puff puff, I gasped.Puff puff, I puffed. There's just neither a scenario nor a context that I can see where these need to be a part of the dialogue. Maybe I'm just being picky at this point. But all the said and shot back and bit back and moaned and argued and complained and scolded and all the seemingly extra verbiage is just distracting. In this example, it's like having to be not so gently told and then reminded that someone running through a building at top speed would be breathlessly spewing out words in a desperate attempt to convey his message. Everyone's mileage may vary, of course. As for me, it seems like this game, as well as Manamon 1 and even Paladin of the Sky, are choked to death with this sort of thing.

I'm Translating Shadow Rine and Doing a Playthrough at the Same Time

For those of you who don't know, Shadow Rine is a medieval action JRPG set in the world of Careshia, and this world is under attack by evil forces. You're job is to get to the bottom of it. I know, sounds really cheesy, but I promise you it's a lot more involved than that. Each character in the game is very well-developed including the enemies, and there are tuns of things to unlock both during and after the story. The link above will take you to the topic on the New Releases room about the game.I've been playing this game on and off for years now, and I love it so much that I decided to take it upon myself to attempt to translate the hole game, from beginning to end. I can't promise I'll get all the way through it, because as I said before, there's enough extra content in the game to keep you busy likely for a few months. Nevertheless, I'm going to try my absolute best to get as far as I possibly can.I don't want to just leave you guys holding your breath, hoping that I'm actually making progress. For this reason, after I feel I've refined the translations enough on a certain section, I'll post a recording for everyone to see the progress I've made. This essentially means that if I can translate the entire game, you'll also be looking forward to a 100 percent play-through, from beginning to end, including the extra dungeons and after story. By posting these recordings, I am inviting you guys to tell me exactly what you think of my translations and how accurate they are, because I am using the JGT NVDA addon to help with the translation. I am also going to the Google Translate website itself and the Bing translator to hear different translations so that I can get a better idea of what a certain text is saying. Inevitably however, there are going to be times where all 3 translation services and my creativity fail me, so I will probably need to be corrected on a few things. You guys are also invited to give me suggestions on how I play the game, but do keep in mind this is primarily focused on the English translation and not so much my style of play. One more thing before I post the link to the play-through folder. If you have any resources that might help me along, please don't hesitate to post here. For example, I heard a partial play-through from Assault_Freak where he spoke some of the dialogue in English to help people understand the story. This could help me a lot with translating the game as smoothly as possible, so if anyone has access to that recording or anything else that might help me please post it here. It can even be a link to a website to help me learn Japanese if you think that it's designed in a way to make it easier for people like me to learn, albeit I doubt it because I really do have a hard time learning things such as new languages. I don't know if it's just the way Duolingo was made, but it just doesn't help me at all and really only succeeds in confusing the hell out of me.Finally, the link to the recordings! Please let me know what you guys think, and don't be too harsh! I know, I only have the tutorial up there right now, but I haven't fixed some of the inconsistencies with the main story yet so I didn't want to upload a recording of a draft. Hope you guys like it!

Well, apparently cows can wield staves too, so I dunno, man. But then, that's true of most pokemon moves, too. Some pokemon who can learn punch moves don't have fists or even hands, and some that do can't punch, so go figure. If we had an accurate physical electric move, Pegastorm might best be a physical sweeper. But we have, like, Overcharge and Sparking Tail, I think. And Spark Punch, but that doesn't count as much. Would be nice if we had a couple of moves like this:Electrodash: 65 power, physical, 5% critical hit chance; never missesThunderstrike: 85 power, 11% critical, 100 accuracy

Re: myTrueSound feedback and some comments related to audiogaming

Ok, look, asking someone to buy you a game isn't always a viable option. I don't like it when that's thrown out as a suggestion as though that's a thing everyone is comfortable doing. I absolutely agree with the sentiment that cracking in the audio gaming scene isn't OK, but let's be real here. Games are a want, not a need, and if you have a lot of pride, which is something I can personally relate to, you wouldn't dare do something that could be taken as grovelling. Some people, especially younger ones with this particular temperament, would rather crack something than be seen as a beggar. Hell, I would have. The difference is that, while I did go through a phase as a teenager where I revelled in all the free stuff I could get, I also recognized that one day, hopefully in the near future, I would pay it forward in other ways, and support those who deserved my patronage. I feel I've done that. If these kinds of topics had existed back in the days when I was first getting into playing audio games, I would never have asked for charity, because, after all, a game is not my shelter or other essentials. I'm not saying this to shame those who do take this route, nor to discourage those who are being generous from providing keys and such. I think it's a great thing, especially in an era where instant gratification is far too prevalent, and it seems like, more than ever, it's every man for himself. All I'm saying is that there are people such as myself who would consider it quite disrespectful to ask for handouts from strangers, so don't expect those people to come forward and do the "right" thing.

Re: When do you think were the best years of Pop music?

Hey, I'll gladly admit to being attached to a lot of pop music from the 90's since that was the era in which I grew up. I think most people do have a lot of nostalgia for songs or entire genres which remind them of simpler days. however, even as I say that, I was also an odd kid because I was as deeply entrenched in the music my parents were listening to, if not more so, so I have just as strong of an emotional attachment to a lot of classic rock, soul, and yes, some pop from the 60's and 70's. Music from that era invokes much more vivid memories than my own generation of the same.

Re: Suggestions for Switching from iOS to Android (Pixel 4)

I am not talking about accessibility of apps, I don't ever expect that and  I  am saying right now that should not happen. Not every app can be made accessible. I am talking about a standard for phone manufacturers, talk about comparing Apples to oranges? As for VO VS talkback, no, there are common features which VO does way better or which Talkback does not have at all. App specific configurations, , assigning a gesture to pretty much every function like jumping to next heading, link, button and so on, way more keyboard shortcuts, text detection from images, a way to speak emoji without depending on the TTS as well as a way to toggle whether you want them spoken or no, as well as another toggle to choose whether the word emoji proceeds the announcement, a braille keyboard built in, and there is probably no need to go on. All of these features have nothing to do with different architectures of the respective operating systems, they simply have to do a lot with how much time is dedicated to the screen reader.

Besides, you can create a list of blacklisted keys in an offline registration system no problem, but we are talking online-based here as it is right now. What I was talking about when referring to offline use was a contingency plan in situations like this where the dev is unavailable. However, @Snow I would try contacting him again concerning your key. Looks like he posted on Twitter with a discount sale announcement, so he may be looking at key requests/taking orders more regularly for the time being.

Just wanted to pop in and post this quick. I personally don't have any problems with ironcross, or anyone involved in whatever is going on in this thread. I also don't really know what is up except for something about BSG and people associated with it. The only current authors on BSG are myself and Hannibal. It has been this way for a long time. I haven't updated the page that specifies that though which is my fault. There is a link to that below. Just wanted to put that in before someone thought they were going to run to me and post or get me to post anything. There's also a new rule that any one who wants to guest post has to post about gaming before anything else so we aren't used as an outlet for people's ranting on personal topics. I'll still do that when I want but I made the site so I'm allowed to. Hannibal makes me laugh so he's allowed to as well, others will have to go through normal channels though.I don't even know if this is still pertinent, and I'm honestly not going to read to find out, but it's better to post than not to. NJO, legacy, thrawn trilogy, in a lot of ways i'm sorry to say this but they did what they did because of gender politics. they let that ruin a perfectly good story. even then if they had continued on they would have had jaina as a jedi master at the end of fait going into crusivle. i'm really not expecting anything else good to come out of star wars. i felt like i was going to go down with a sinking ship when i went to watch the film. like i say as a film it was ok but things could have been made a whole lot better if they had used propper story lines.

@22, that doesn't make TB unworthy/worse than VO. Does it lack some features that VO has? Certainly. Does that make it somehow inferior? Nope. Apples to oranges, NVDA/JAWS to Orca. Completely different screen readers, completely different architectures and maintainers. This little war of screen readers won't help anyone. (Also, Microsoft cares about accessibility yet they've set no "accessibility standard" for apps to be approvedin the app store; why should Google? If memory serves Apple hasn't either.)

I think you go like three or four right from the entrance and then straight up. Then dodge fireballs and run north (you'll probably get hit, that's fine, speed is the aim of the game).

Yeah, but he is doing the same thing as the dev of Entombed. He's not responding to support requests

Re: Manamon 2: Impressions Thread

Uh, first of all, it's not the dragon stadium that has lasers. It's the fire stadium. Gonna just assume you mistyped there.Second, did you get the laser protection? It's right there in the first room making noise and doing its thing. It's not hidden or otherwise obscured. You absolutely will not survive that conveyor belt in the second room without it.

@nuno, that's a huge improvement at least. Hope it can work outside of websites though, as mentioned previously. Will have to give it a go on the pixel at some point.

Re: Lets play in RTR!

@10, fair enough, although in this case the desktop in question is hooked up to our router via ethernet so it's very fast. It's also got around 32 gigs of ram and an intel I 9 with 16 cores. The only real disadvantage to it is that it's running vista, but if I wasn't lazy I could probably upgrade it to at least 7. Haven't touched it in a few years though, so yeah. Agreed it would probably be best up on a VPS though, provided you have something with decent specs, more than the cheapest option you can find, in other words.

Would just like to point out that I pay attention without having to be called for.I'm otherwise wondering why a topic that had basically run its course had to be brought back.
