It's possible that your sound volume is very low.  Go back to settings and increase everything except music.  Music should be practically turned off when you first start out so you can hear all the sounds.the exit you want to go through plays a little chime at the very beginning of the game.  it should be on the top right corner of the map.I don't know how to interact with objects using a keyboard, but if you have an xbox controller it's RB

A few days ago, a couple friends and I logged onto alter to see if we could find a few people to play Jackbox games with.Huge mistake.  I know!Anyway, we hopped on the gossip channel and were swamped by a massive wave of negativity toward discord, jackbox games, and anything else that could be perceived as mainstream things sighted people might use.Responses ranged from "I only use Teamtalk," to 'why would video streams matter to me?  I can't see Video?" as if sighted people don't even exist!I primarily only interact with blind people online and sighted people off the internet, but sometimes I'm comfortable with those lines crossing for specific people, and I would rather the outsider (the sighted person) be most comfortable... yes, more comfortable than the blind people that might make up the majority of that interaction, which means I will use discord or another mainstream platform pretty much every time.I think part of the toxicity toward sighted people has to do with the fact that a lot of isolated blind people only have limited interactions with sighted people, and those interactions tend to revolve around family members.Interactions with family members are often difficult and stressful, even in healthy families, and considering most families aren't very healthy to begin with, undersocialized blind people might unconsciously associate sighted people with family and project their issues with their sighted family members onto everyone else.That's not even considering how in some underdeveloped countries, blind people are extremely limited in what they can do, which means more bitterness toward sighted people from them.these conclusions might be a bit of a stretch though.  thoughts?

Mirror mode is definitely not necessary.  I agree that god mode is necessary when starting out, but late game it's not as important.it's useful during certain fights but you can toggle it on / off throughout your game if you feel you might need it.My issue with playing on the switch is that you wouldn't be able to OCR the screen.  There are no spoken menues and you have to be able to read choices.

You don't disable the drawing games in Push the Button, you just ask everyone in your group not to choose them.Every round, a captain is chosen and it's up to them to choose what test will be taken and who will take it.  As long as nobody picks the drawing quarters then nobody will have to draw anything.

Push the button is mostly very accessible.  We obviously can't use the drawing room, but everything else seems to work okay.to be fair I haven't gotten to play around with the bioscanner yet but if you designate both off-limits (assuming the bioscanner is not accessible,) both the humans and aliens will be playing on the same playing field and so everything will be fine.I really like party pack 5 for a fully accessible You Don't Know jack... honestly I feel like every pack has at least one really good game.

I would say a beginner should 100% use god mode.  Later on after you're comfortable beating the game consistently you can try without god mode and see how far you get.

so the dungeon map is actually pretty accessible on iOS.  It takes a bit more time to read, but it is definitely usable.Sailing is a big no no on both iOS and windows though.Sure, you can go in and move randomly in hopes you'll find something, but other more competitive players can take your things or just collect all the resources before you can.

One huge thing that helped me a lot was adjusting the time it takes for listen mode pings to travel all the way down to 1 second.  The best advice I can give you is to pay really close attention to all the cut-scenes and everything the characters are saying while traveling around.do not skip cut scenes... ever.  You will be very lost.

I'm glad I'm not the only picky one when it comes to MUD text.  Lost souls has been the only mud I've played that comes close to having enjoyable combat text, but it is also still very repetitive once you've played for a long time.  it's also extremely spammy.

I briefly gave 3 scapes a whirl earlier.  the tutorial stuff was kinda neat, but I was turned off by the guild helpfiles.  They just seemed very poorly written, like a couple players got together and wrote extremely vague sales pitches or something.I might hop back on later when I have time.My favorite playstyles typically revolve around minions.  How well does that game pull off pets / minions?  Can followers gain levels and advance like a player could?

ps 4 pro screen reader

So I was intending to order a ps5, but given that they're impossible to get, I thought I'd order a ps 4 pro for the holidays then make another shot at the ps5 after returning the pro.For those of you in the US, how good is the screen reader?  I've heard the setup process isn't accessible, but does everything else work okay?  Do the media apps work?  Also, how is youtube / twitch streaming?

I had to get sighted assistance to log into my microsoft account, but from that point, everything was fine.Before doing that though, open up the xbox companion app, go to settings, and in the general tab, check the box that says Let games read to me.it's possible that if that is read, you may have speech through the log in process though I doubt it.

okay, having played around with the game for an hour or two I have a few questions.I haven't had any issues navigating the game's UI, though @aaron your post was quite helpful, so thanks for that.My issues revolve around gameplay, mainly, finding the fabricator at the beginning and having started the rounds, using auto-lock to take out opponents.When told to secure the fabricator, are you being told to place it at a certain location? or is it already somewhere and you have to find it.  having found it, how do you interact with it, x?I tried following the pings but it's tough when there are obstacles in the way.Can you guys recommend a map that is more open / easier to start with?Finally, I'm not sure I understand the process of locking / targeting on opponents.  From my understanding, I hold down lt to aim, then center an opponent and tap the left joystick to set a mark on the target.  Following that, I use the right trigger to fire?  is there a sound when I have successfully placed a marker?  I know characters occasionally speak but it doesn't seem to be too consistent.Anyway, thanks for all your help, guys.  I'd be happy to play games with you all.  My gamer tag is aaronr7734 if anyone is interested.

Awesome!I just bought gears 5, so will be giving it a shot once it installs.it's a bit unfortunate that tactics isn't playable, but even if only Hoard is accessible, hoard mode alone basically blows any audio game we have out of the water!I'll likely be back in a few hours with questions, and thanks for your help!

The downfall support is fantastic!I've only played hexaghost and slimebound so far with the latest changes and it definitely makes them a lot easier to play.I've only found two issues so far:1. when fighting the merchant, if you play a card that prompts you to select a choice, e.g. slimebound's Split cards, TTS is unable to read the choices and it just gets stuck.2.  some of the evil downfall events don't have the proceed / continue option and you have to click proceed within the game window.  I haven't made it past act 1 but I know the serpent one didn't have the proceed option, or at least I think it was that one.Thanks, and HTH!

Complete the game with all characters while other character mods are not enabled.  By which I mean you have to beat the game with all four characters after you disable every character mod, even if you have beat the game with the base characters before.  At least that's what I had to do.

has anyone else had issues with this?  about half the time I try to OCR, it crashes regardless of what core / game is loaded.I've tried outputting text to both speech and narrator and it still causes retroarch to crash pretty often.The other half of the time it works great, but at this rate the OCR thing is completely useless to me.

What characters are you trying to start?  if it's the downfall characters, they're not in that list because they're not meant to be played in standard mode.

almost everything works perfectly except for hexaghost and the downfall mode itself.  Thanks to text the spire, you can still play all the other characters in standard mode.I say that because you can't actually select the downfall characters in standard mode if you're using the game's UI.

That's fair.  Slay the spire isn't party-based.  You only have the one character.I'd say slay the spire has at least as much story as Entombed did, but maybe even a little more since you'll find bits of story text sprinkled around the game as you play more.I've noticed Japanese audio games tend to have more real-time combat whereas Western audio games are typically turn-based or very basic sidescrollers.  I wonder why that is?

@15:  That's basically what the Slay the Spire bosses are like.One thing I love about that game that I've never seen before is that you can see enemy intents during your turn.  If something intends to attack me during its turn, I know about it beforehand and can choose to counter it (or not.)You won't see specifics about what buffs or debuffs enemies intend to apply but since most of the monsters act on certain patterns it's not hard to figure out and it's not meant to be hard either.I'm not a huge fan of the active turn-based systems like A Dark Room because the games we have that use those systems are way too simplistic.  Your goal is to accumulate as many attacks as possible and fire them as soon as their bars fill.  At that point, I'd rather combat be automated and your character run all attacks when they're ready.I've never played the final fantasy games that use that system though and I imagine they did a far better job keeping it complex and engaging.Do you guys remember the Battle Arena iOS game?  That was a great example of a turn-based game that was complex, engaging and didn't put too much emphasis on having the right equipment for each fight.

RTs automatically runs MTS-launcher.jar, so I think the issue is that none of the mods are being selected.Regarding content mods, I feel like the downfall expansion is the best one to start with, as it introduces characters that already part of the game, so players should already have an idea on how to play them since they face them regularly.I'm pretty sure that mod's developers are active on the Discord, too, since it just recently dropped.Most of its characters are almost 100% accessible (excluding hexaghost,) but the downfall mode where you play as a servant of the heart is completely unplayable because TTS is unable to move through the map.HTH

Just ran through an endless run and blights are definitely not appearing in the relics window.  I know I'm acquiring them because they're definitely affecting me.They're probably only negative relics in concept, but not mechanically.Also, after a certain point, and I think a blight might be causing this since this typically only happens after I acquire one, navigation becomes impossible.I see  the nodes I can move to as I normally would, but selecting one does nothing.Regarding mods, it appears that this mod checks to see if other mods, specifically friendly minions, are loaded to give the player access to a card, but friendly minions is not required for the mod to run.HTH!

@wensber: Last I played endless mode, which granted was  a long time ago, blights were not viewable.  Is that something you could look into? assuming you didn't already.Otherwise though, this mod's already pretty amazing and the amount you put into it has been incredible.  Regarding other mods, almost everything from downfall is fully playable, except for hexaghost and the actual downfall mode.Downfall mode would be playable too except TTS is unable to navigate the map though it is able to read it.  I think it breaks because you're placed on the top and move down rather than the other way around.

Read The Spire does have access to that event text, but Text The Spire doesn't automatically read it.  This can be resolved by adding Event to the watchlist.txt file in your RTS folder.

@550:  In one word... terribly.There's usually several thousand people that get scores around the 1500-1700 range depending on the daily, and even when I manage scores of 11-1200 I'm still a few hundred pages down the leaderboard.Regarding accessible mods, Downfall has two characters that I'd say are fully playable, those being Slimebound and the guardian.  The other characters are somewhat manageable if you have a lot of patience, but also not really.

An accessible stats screen?Neat!  I'll have to check it out!Me and the Achievements mod are not happy with each other at the moment.  I got annoyed with it when it gave me achievements during daily runs, so I unlocked some of the hardest achievements thanks to my overpowered deck with four mindblasts on an endless run.

Telnet the spire is not meant for blind people.  It originally wasn't even going to support telnet, if it's the same mod I was thinking of.A lot of sighted nerds want to play this game wherever they might be without it looking too suspicious, and we can benefit just as much from that.Imagine opening those telnet ports to the internet so you can have the game running and connect to it from any mud client on any device?  You could make a soundpack using the game's sounds (if you can find them,) and happily play on your phone or other device that for whatever reason cannot run the game.As for gameplay mods, I've gotten rid of all of them over here because they screw up with dailies.Iwant to have the same dailies as everyone else so I can watch youtube playthroughs and watch others struggle through the same things I did.  Gameplay altering mods result in you having completely different dailies from everybody else pretty constantly.

It's part of map, so if you use map (coords), it will guide you to that particular tile.The map command will only show you tiles you can access from your current locations, so the closer you get to the top, the fewer options you will have.To access your draw pile, use the deck command and to access your discard pile use the discard command.

@victorious:  From my understanding, you should be able to move the way you suggested, but it's all dependent on whether there's an available open path in that direction.  I don't think the mod makes clear where a certain path leads, at least not directly.  You can deduce it by using the inspect command a few times though.

After further experimentation and research, I believe the issue is that TTS is reading the map in reverse.  In downfall mode, you start at the top of act 3 and descend the spire, since you are essentially playing as an evil servant that has been awakened by the heart.'I could be wrong about this though, and I haven't had a sighted person confirm.  I may try to find one in the morning though.

Bad news.  I just tried the Downfall mode.  Getting to it requires OCR which isn't really an issue.  Playing, however, is impossible because TextTheSpire is unable to move you around the map despite the fact that it is able to read it.I'm not really sure what the issue is and given that it's not really Wensber's problem to deal with this likely won't ever be usable unless we're willing to navigate the map the way we would have prior to TTS.@Dark: Though each character has slihgtly different mechanics, they're not so different that they require learning entirely new things.  In fact, I'd say playing each character made me more comfortable playing the other two characters, because they all have something to contribute.  This is especially true because there are relics that unlock Silent and Defect card pools which allow for a form of multiclassing of sorts.

Regarding Slimebound, it's certainly a cool and mostly accessible mod, though there doesn't seem to be a way of tracking your currently active slimes and what they do.  I'm off to watch some playthroughs with it to figure things out, but it definitely seems playable.

The built-in OCR thing is more useful than you guys seem to realize.  Yes, NVDA has built-in OCR functionality that is quick and works reasonably well.   Thing is, to my knowledge, that's the only screen reader that does.  Not only on Windows but on all platforms.  Retroarch is cross-platform, and VO users have nothing like NVDA'S OCR thing.

Unfortunately, I too am suffering from the speech latency issue here on windows 10.  I have a delay of about 3-5 seconds, so doing anything is pretty much impossible at this point.  I also noticed that it's ignoring Narrator's set voice and also the default SAPI 5 voice, which is somewhat unfortunate but tolerable.Still a neat little thing I can't wait to play around with more once these issues are ironed out.

Maybe instead of releasing the server for anyone to host, the dev should consider running servers in different geographical locations.  I know very little about the Playroom, but it doesn't seem like the server would require much in terms of resources to run, so strategically placed servers in various locations around the world probably shouldn't be too expensive.

The irony is that conversations like this are exactly why I created this thread, and the last one, for that matter.  Though I only created this one because a certain hater inadvertently revived it! For the record, I don't care whether you are or are not amused by the topic.  I don't even care if you voice negative opinions, though I wouldn't personally unless I was affected by the topic in question.  We all have different senses of humor and are amused by completely different things.  I appreciate people trying to defend the topic, but voicing opinions is not a crime, and arguing about whether you should voice negative opinions or not is silly.  Nobody's stance on this issue is going to change, no matter how eloquently arguments are put.  You guys would probably argue about whether water was wet or not!  It's not, by the way. Darn, now you guys made me come out of character!
