Have to agree with Simba and Dan_Gero. You take this far, far too seriously. We would have to rewrite half of the worlds literature if we started to say the author has an uncomon opinion based of a line a character says. I mean, Tolkien didn't want to rule the world either, and yet he wrote the character of Sauron.It's also quite troubling for me to see how often a person is said to have a misogenistic view these days. You basically can't write or say anything today without being afraid you step on somebodys toes.

If you beat the first boss in the ruins, you can now switch to Lilia by pressing space. With her, you can not attack, but you can jump instead with the attack button. Switch back to the main character by pressing space again.

Yes there are platforming sections in side scroller view. But in the original version, they were always just two screens long, so they can be done easily for the most part.

So if you need help, it may be I can still remember stuff from the game.On a different note, I listened to the remake of the soundtrack and it's absolutely breathtaking, especially in the dungeons.

But wouldn't that be ... no fun at all. Following the walls until an opening appears somewhere, without the slightest idea where you are, what's around you and what npc's are saying? And what's with the whole lot of block pushing puzzles and chests that stand in the center of rooms, not by the walls? Don't get me wrong, it's definitely doable with lots and lots of patience, and there are definitely mainstream games with great soundscape, great voice acting or great ways of finding what you search for, but is Zelda Links Awakening really worth the trubble?

My only problem with the game was that I found two rings of the dune tiger or what it's called, and my speed went up so dramatically that not a single enemy, including the end boss, could ever use his round. And unequipping your greatest gear just feels wrong somehow

Yes, Valve takes a cut, and this is no secret. Valve has to live from something too. Oh and accessibilitywise I really can't complain. The website, where you can buy your games and initiate downloads works perfectly, OCR is not needed anymore for the client ... But it's strange Dark has those problems with the download. For me, as I said, it's just seeing those predetermined storage values, scrolling down and clicking finish and the download is on its way.

HiI'm searching for an accessiblle chess program at the moment and found the spoonbill chess game in the games database. The developers website is still running, and I found the game, but when I click on the download link for bg chess, strange things start to happen:First, it opens something like "Google viewer" or something similar, which is not readable with arrow keys, but you can navigate to a download button with the tab key. Then, the file downloads, but when I click on it, a message comes up informing me that the software was not executed because of a virus. Has somebody got experience with this and if it's safe or if the site has been hacked? Sadly, audio games archive has no download links. Or does somebody know of a good chess program?

Yeah, I wish that too. But 584 sounds wrong, because if you go from 5, the number should be 513, nnot 584. Sorry, now I'm confused

So, I hope what I'm saying is right. You should not enter an answer just yet, because then it'll probably change again. Instead, go back to the computer with the authenticator file. As I've said, the first column of this file should be three-number codes. To get from f to b, you would need to go four letters back in the alphabet, because f-1 = e, e-1 = d, d-1 = c, c-1 = b. Now, from b to t, it's eight letters back: b-1 = a, a-1 = z, z-1 = y, y-1 = x, x-1 = w, w-1 = v, v-1 = u, u-1 = t. Now look for a three-digit number that would match this pattern. Obviously, you don't know what the first digit is, but the second digit must be the first digit -4, and then the third digit must be the second digit -8. The only thing to note is that when you go below zero, for example 0-1, you will be at 9 again, like in 3-1 = 2, 2-1=1, 1-1=0, 0-1=9, 9-1=8, 8-1=7 and so on. For FBT, correct keys would be, for example, 957, 624 or 391. If you find a three-digit number with that pattern, remember what is written in the same line behind it and use that as your password. I realize that sounds completely confusing at first, but I can't come up with a better way to describe it.

The authenticator is not easy, and it has been quite a long time since I solved it, but I think it was like that: The auth file has various pairs of three numbers and five numbers. The three numbers are your lookup code, the five numbers your answer. When you try to access the terminal, it'll print out a three letter key. This is a cyver for the three numbers. If the letters, for example, are "lol", you would have to look for a number whose second digit is the first digit plus 3 (l plus 3 is o), and the third digit would be the first again (o minus 3 = l).

I've come across a quite new interactive fiction called Cannery Vale. It's not parser- but choice-based, normally that's not my favorite type of if, but it sounds absolutely great. Basically, you're an author trying to write your new horror novel in an inn where you can work without distractions. @3 While I would often agree that other ways of accessibility should've been tested instead of skipping the puzzles, I really can't think of a way to play Catherine's puzzles at all when you're blind. I think that would be impossible. Not to mention most sighted people have a hard time even with easy difficulty.

I must say I am not a huge Scott Adams fan, because if we take out the enormous nostalgia factor, for which I'm to young, there is really not very much to like about the games, especially if you see infocom. The problem was not necessarily the delivery itself (bad sound mixing, bad voice acting etc). This alone could have led to more constructive posts. The problem was that they anounced a fully accessible rpg with great story and character customisation and awesome new battle techniques. That was simply a lie and they must have known this. I think it's not at all bad if a developer's first game is not the greatest in audio game history, but you must stand for what your game really is instead of exagerating everything. This can only lead to destructive posts.

The problem about filfre is that it often crashes randomly with one command, but you have to type that one command to advance the story. No matter what you try, filfre will never do that command correctly. Oh, and it's a bit slow. I use Wingit for Glulx games, and it's almost identical to use with jaws. For Z-Code, I still use Filfre, but they get less and less now that Informs standard compiling format is Glulx.

Here is a link to the webpage of Inform 7, the if authoring system for zcode games. Download Inform 7, start the program, go through the project setup dialog, and as soon as the editor opens, press F1 to see the detailed programming manual for Inform. Be warned though, that the more graphic-based parts of Inform (for example the object index) is not accessible, so you'll probably do a lot of manual testing. But the editor and the build tools are accessible.

Yes, as far as I know one program is for playing only, the other has the game programming tool included. Strangely, quest games often work better with screen readers if played directly online, without downloading the program. But even then it's not the most beautiful interface. Have you already tried Z-Code or Glulx games? They are almost always much, much better in terms of story, gameplay, accessibility ... everything really

I often feel the same when levelling up becomes nearly impossible. What is the point in playing games when they force you to do the same thing again and again and again just to become a bit stronger and be able to defeat the next big boss? Isn't gaming about fun and not about work. A small bit of grinding is absolutely fine, because you can feel the acomplishment when you're done, but more grinding and you just want to finish it at all costs and hit buttons like a machine. Has anyone seen the levelling system in Final Fantasy VIII? I know it's not accessible, but I find this technique quite interesting. In this game, each level costs exactly 100 exp, no matter which level you're on. Areas are not level-specific, but will level with you. When you encounter a random enemy or even a boss, the enemy will be between -3 and +3 of your own level. The difficulty in this game is not your level, but the spells you possess. Each enemy has learned some spells and you are able to steal them. You can store the same spell up to 99 times and every time you use it, the number of remaining spells decreases. To make things more difficult, spells give you passive bonuses such as more hp, more strength etc. So using spells on enemies actually makes you weaker. I really like this system. It nearly eliminates the need to level up and brings up difficulties that are normally not encountered in RPG's.

Had the same problem around a year ago. I installed Microsoft Visual Studio and afterwards this occured. I really don't think Visual Studio had anything to do with it, but this is the only thing I remember doing that day. Then after a windows update a few days later, all was normal again.

How to use NVDA OCR correctly

Hello,Today, I tried using the OCR addon for NVDA for the first time to read steam. I've Windows 7, so I have to use the Addon and can't use the build-in OCR. But I don't understand how this works. I go to the steam object with object navigation, press nvda+r and the program says "text recognition" and after a while "Finished". So it seems all went well, but how can I see the recognized text? There is now new window, nothing at all. As I said, I'm using the add-on for the first time so it's maybe a very simple problem. Can anybody explain me how to use it?Thanks in advance.

Nearly all if on IFDB is accessible anyway.For good games, I suggest the commercial "Hadean Lands" if you like lots and lots of puzzles, or the free game "Counterfeit Monkey" if you like word puzzles and a engaging story. "The King of Shreds and Patches" is also great for lovecraft fans. These are my favorites after 2011, but there are hundreds of good games.

Yes I had this too in my playthrough. I hit the space bar to often and deployed a carrier without any items to get. In the end, I had to destroy the carrier with a missile. Is this intentional? Shouldn't the carrier come back after about one minute or so?

Right. I often do the following: Fly very, very near to the guardian when its shield is down. Then, when it uses its machine gun, imediately fly to the other side. It can't turn while shooting and the attack is very long. Now, spam missiles and they will all hit until he stops his futile machine gun attack.

To be honest, I really don't understand that whole "developers get carried away" thing. This is finally a game where it's not just run five steps right and hit space bar six times to win. And while you are on the platform, the bombs can't hit you. Just go up the platform, wait until Carla is past it and run, it's really as simple as that.

For the needle launcher, I use the following method: Stand under the leftmost platform tile, where bombs don't fall yet. Then, hit f and imediately run to the right. Grab the Needle launcher and then the hook warmup time should be over and you can climb out of harms way.

To be honest I've just played through it and I never upgraded my HP. For me, the extra HP gained by just leveling up was enough to get through it. I had around 350 defence and attack, and 1000 health.

Okay. I really, really, really don't think the platforming is to much or to hard or anything. When I play BK3, I always look forward to levels which aren't just "walk right and kill enemies". I would even say the platforming is a bit under-used in some parts of the game. I don't want to make the impression that I'm trolling or anything, but my favorite levels are the stealth ones. The way in which to carefully look around and work out the solutions how to sneak, it's just genious. And the flight levels aren't really that complicated. I agree that shooting barriers is not the most exciting activity in the game, but those dogfights are so great.

Hi, I've played BK3 and got access to 20-3, the stage with the c4. After the level practicallly ended after one step and one c4, I thought: There must be more in here. And yes there is. I found the hidden c4 spot near the ceiling, climbed up to it with lots and lots of small boxes, set the c4 and bahm! Got absolutely and completely wrecked by this secret boss. Is there any chance I can defeat this thing? Do I have to do something special? Oh and thanks very much for that message that now asks where you want to start the level.

I also played about a third of both playdead horror sidescrollers: Limbo and Inside. You'll need a walkthrough beside you to see what's going on, so it's really not that accessible and I couldn't progress at some point in both games, but the sound atmosphere and style of the games are great.

In my opinion, realism is what really lacks in todays audio games. Every audio game I've played let's you shoot and it's either hit or miss. I know that we couldn't just aim with a mouse to shoot special body parts as shooters for sighted people work, but it would be really great to see a audio game in which some new technique is invented to fight more realistically. Exact same with sword fighting games. At the moment, it's either hitting a key and if the enemy is in range, he won't defend himself and get hit or it's one of those "I hear a completely unrealistic taunt from the left so that everyone knows where the enemy is, then I press left and bahm. Don't get me wrong, I like the games I described and I'm aware that it's not easy to come up with a technique that is both new and practical, but something has to be done.

When I download something, I never press the "save" button, but instead press arrow down on it to open the assotiated Sub menu and choose "save as". Then it'll never reach your download Folder.Note that this works for Internet Explorer. Don't know about other Browsers.
