Re: Using Slang is Homophobic now? Hi,So I read through pretty much all of this, and I admit when I started reading, I feared this would degenerate due to the sensative subject matter. It didn't though, thank goodness.As many have already said,I think we all need to take time to reflect and step back every so often. Sometimes, we don't, bottle everything up and explode. Sadly as much as people tell you this, it doesn't always sink in until it's too late and you've screwed up something, be it a relationship with somebody you care about, or any number of things. It's how we deal with that which is important. We either take responsability that we have a problem and figure out how not to repeat it, or we blame others for our problems and push more and more people away. Growing up is a huge part of this. I fucked up majorly when I was a teenager and messed arguably one of the best friendship/relationships of my life because I was too immature to realise that I was causing a problem and not dealing with it. Now I don't recognise that person and can know for a fact that I'm far better at dealing with things and stopping myself from responding angrily to most things, despite a situation that happened last year which destroyed me mentally I had every right to be furious about. Instead, I figured out that I needed help and spoke to those I knew I could count on to be honest with me. If I fucked up, I wanted to know and for them not to pull any punches with sympathy. I didn't though, which oddly enough didn't help. Anyway, that's a whole nother topic and evidently I still need to get something out as evidenced by this. One thing I've always loved about this community is that yes there can be some trolling and shitposting going about like any forum, but the fact that more often than not people will help each other out is wonderful. Let's be honest, we're all going through a pretty crappy time right now, so no doubt there are people in worse situations than others. So if you're getting heated or angry reading something, step back, and take some perspective. Play a game, listen to some music made with kitchen appliances; thanks for that gem Nocturnus, and try to stay positive. I realise this might have been a bit of a ramble. Essentially it's disneyland/world experiences all in binaural audio. Rides, music, sometimes just simply walking around and taking in the atmosphere. You sometimes get interviews and such as well. Probably one of the most immersive shows I've ever listened to. The host is super approachable too. Wttm24 is similar, but with a twist. Every four years a group go to disneyland for a day and everything gets captured. But here's the twist, two of them have microphones, and when they are off doing their own thing, one goes in one ear, the other in the other. So you can either listen to both at the same time, or do multiple playthroughs where you alternate. It's just a really fun novel experience that has given me countless laughs and made me feel like I was there with them. Other shows I'm really fond of are we're alive, the Joe Rogan experience depending on guest, post wrestling, coasterradio, pg13, and chris jericho's podcast. All of these are super easy listens and I love especially now how natural these people are to listen to, it's like you're hanging out with friends. For personal choice, if nothing else. Also there are admittedly some areas which NVDA is somewhat sluggish on, namely office, where there are improvements, but it's still not up to where jaws was when I used it a few years back. An earlier post did remind me of the horrific combination of a jaws licence and university networks though, which is why I switched to NVDA full time and haven't looked back. It was truly beautiful; a beach wedding with the sea right there made the experience that much more real. Other than that I've been working in school with Skye like normal, though my role has evolved from just helping motivate children to read to being an assistant in a nurture room. Basically a teaching assistant for children who usually have emotional needs preventing them from being as successful as they might be in a class environment, be it academically, socially or otherwise. Honestly the most rewarding thing I've ever done. Skye loves it too mostly, she gets more love and attention and fuss than she knows what to do with! I have a drive, but vlc doesn't play them by default, and the work around doesn't work for this one, which is the star wars set. With that in mind, I'm going to try my hardest to get a braille sense, as it's something I feel would be incredibly helpful, however I couldn't get one while at university. So what do you guys think? starting guide dog training. Hi all,After being on the waiting lisst for close to two years and having spent probably as long getting the ball rolling, Ive finally been matched up with a yellow Lab called Skye. Funnily enough I met her on a taster day guidedogs Southampton gave those of us who had been waiting for a long while and ended up getting the call for a possible matching visit a few days later. Shes been over my place the past weekend and training starts tomorrow with a two weeks residential course. I guess Im making this topic to get a sense of any guidedog tips, stories or whatever else you all have. Partly because it might help and also for curiosities sake. Plus if theres one thing Ive learned having had dogs the past few years now, theyre a fantastic way to get to know other people. Speaking of dogs, one of mine a Yorkshire terrier type who isnt a huge fan of other dogs started playing with Skye earlier tonight. Im frankly amazed this happened so quick. I have rather enjoyed hearing what others have been up to; its great seeing all the diversity on here.As for me, Im just spent the past month working my way steadily through university, currently writing a reflection on a visit I undertook to an orthodox Jewish synagogue. The strangest part about this is that were encouraged to put I! in the essay, which is something Im really not used to doing these days. Other than uni work, Ive gotten into abridged series, particular DBZ and Helsing Ultimate by team four star. I admit to having never really watched the animes in question, however the abridged series are incredibly entertaining none the less. Im thinking of either starting the dark tower series, or ir on druid if I can get hold of the thing. Culture I cant find on bookshare, so am looking for alternative places to get books when that place doesnt meet my needs. any suggestions?When I have time, Im intending to start on the doctor who BF monthlys as well. I tried it once, and the amount of time it took me to process the information was ridiculous.I know what you mean about the disabled students allowance Dark. I was told before university that no, you will have a laptop. you wont need a braille note... a year on and with research, I realised that having a braille sense or whatever its called would make my life about 10 times easier. Ive put my case forward multiple times, with the backing of my senco, and they wont budge. Ive definitely realised after going from a school where getting braille was incredibly easy due to them having a specialised unit for VI students, through college and now university, where it is far, far scarcer, that braille provides me with access to information in a way that listening to a screenreader never can. Re: going to Harry Potter world, looking for some reviews Hi,Ive ridden both hulk and terror, admittedly several years ago.Hulk I found to be similar to any other coaster, it didnt have a huge drop per say, mainly upside-down portions that are difficult to notice. Still a brilliant ride though.As for terror, as I knew you were going to drop down eventually, it didnt really worry me. coupled with the atmospherics, its pretty obvious when the drop is about to happen, and the drops dont feel huge compared to other rides Ive been on. The same is true for doom, its very, very obvious when the drop is about to happen, though I remember it being larger than terror was. Ive never had any fear of theme park rides though. Despite that, my only recommendation for you though Aaron is to just give everything a try. Florida is amazing for atmosphere. So much so that I really want to go again now Im older to spend more time taking it in and just walking through the parks instead of rushing from ride to ride. Re: what I want I will say that I wholeheartedly agree with Nocturnus on this one. Most days I just get on with it and dont complain at all, as its my life and I believe you have to make the most of what you do have. However there certainly are those days when not being able to appreciate the things taken so much for granted like the view out a window or just going into a room and finding a friend/someone to talk to can really be frustrating. Independence is something that really gets my goat at times, as I currently do not have a mobility instructor, the one I did have couldnt see me on a regular basis so after she left I stopped for a while. Thank goodness for the my guide system over here. that is at least allowing me to practice routs around my local area more often, but I never feel as though I am nearly as independent at getting around as I would like to be.This is mainly a problem around my uni and the city as my point of origin h as changed several times over the past couple years, and while I could certainly learn the routs needed and am getting there on some of them again, it does frustrate me having to rely on people so much at the moment.This is compounded by the fact Im getting a guidedog at some point, but that could be a year or two away as the list is so long. I feel that would improve my confidence to just get up and walk around anywhere immensely. Plus theres the fact that the products made specifically for the blind community by these types of companies offten dont work as expected and fall behind the times extremely quickly.Im hoping this will in fact be a fantastic app, I really am. But I do believe the price tag for an app is too high.
