Re: Tips for lighting cigarette-like things
Re: Tips for lighting cigarette-like things Thanks, all. Some very good tips here. The 45-degree angle suggestion in particular is helpful. I've burned my fingertip plenty of times trying to figure this stuff out, and kind of knew that the flame went up regardless of how the bic was oriented. But I think my solution was to use a steeper angle and position my bowl slightly below where I thought the flame would end up. This probably put it way closer to the flame than it needed to be, and explains why it catches like a California wildfire and crackles very audibly, and gives me a much harsher hit than when others light for me. I'll try a shallower angle next time. And since this is a torch lighter, I'll point the flame jets directly at the side of the pen tip for starters. Worst case I'll pester a COVID-safe sightling in a few days. Tips for lighting cigarette-like things
Tips for lighting cigarette-like things So here's another of my "I'm a blind adult but a total n00b at some things" posts. Tomorrow I'm getting a butane-powered dry herb vape pen. Really dislike running out of batteries halfway through a session, and switched to butane a couple years back. My previous butane vape was entirely self-contained and easy to operate. But last week the starter, well, stopped. I know, it had one job... The maker of this model also went under, so there's no replacement. Anyhow, switched to a higher-end vape, but this one uses a lighter and isn't self-contained.I've lit pipes before, but it was mostly hit but sometimes miss. Also, I feel like my herb burned a lot quicker than when I've asked others to light for me, so I think I may have been holding the lighter too close.Since the pen is like a cigarette, but lit from the side rather than the tip, I'm wondering if folks can give me some lighter-handling tricks? I have no issue lighting a barbecue full of charcoal and maybe lighter fluid, but lighting a small object close to my face is something I can sorta do, but I'd like to be better at it. General tips welcome, but a couple questions:How does the flame typically emerge from a lighter? Take your standard bic. Does it emerge from the hole and travel straight up? Does it drop down, and emerge more from the side? I'd like to know that in the case of the bic, but since this is a butane torch, I'm guessing that will make a difference too. I generally don't know if the lighter should be held vertically, an inch or two to the right or left of the thing being lit, or below, above it, or parallel to the floor pointed at the thing, or...How big is the flame usually? Half an inch? An inch? Two? Again, I'm sure this varies based on the intensity, but some sort of rough guide would be nice. Not like I can reach out and investigate--at least, not without harshing my mellow pretty significantly. Thanks, looking forward to being back up and running. Re: I am affronted by the presence of god
Re: I am affronted by the presence of god Folks, I really don't know that continuing this thread is a good idea.@66 I'm sorry you're going through what you are. It sounds incredibly rough. I actually had a pretty bad breakdown a few weeks back during the Texas snowstorm, so maybe I can empathize a bit. I was taking care of my girlfriend through it, her attendants weren't able to make it for a stretch. and I just sort of melted down out of fear/exhaustion. I do an OK job taking care of her when we're not in the midst of a huge snowstorm, but her place is inaccessible to me in ways that make that harder for days on end, and I had to take care of myself then as well. Plus she does tenant organizing, so all day she's taking calls from folks in apartments with no water, using dog-shit-filled snow for flushing toilets..it was awful in a whole bunch of ways. Plus we're in winter, when I already struggle with depression. And we're in a pandemic which, well, the less said about that the better. What it also is was traumatic, and it really sounds like you're going through a lot of trauma right now. I'd like it if people here could be helpful, but I don't know that they can be. That isn't because they don't *want* to, but because it can be hard to relate.I don't know if I'm right, and I apologize if I'm not. But I thought that saying something and being wrong, would be worse than not saying something and being right.Do you have any other support? Do you need me to help you find some? That's a serious offer, and I have some bandwidth to help. I'm still not entirely on my feet, but I have enough to do a bit of research if you don't have the time, and to try connecting you with support if I can find it.Hang in there. I know that sounds hollow, but it's sincere. Re: Lets talk about cooking.
Re: Lets talk about cooking. Adding a few things here. I really like these kinds of threads as I think they're very positive ways in which this forum makes a difference in people's lives.Camlorn gives you a lot of good information. Like, a *lot*. If you can save what he wrote in a text file somehow, it'd be helpful for you to read and reread over the next few years, even if a lot is over your head. It's probably not what you need right now, as a 12-year-old. No offense, Austin.Cooking is complicated. It can also be simple. Please don't let all these details make you feel like it's hard.Your toaster oven cooking absolutely is cooking. When I need an oven, unless I'm cooking something large like keeping a turkey warm after smoking or warming a brisket, I only use a very large toaster oven. It keeps my kitchen cooler, and uses way less energy. My toaster oven is big enough to cook a frozen pizza which, if you have the right shapes of pans, is also big enough to bake brownies, cookies, and other small pastries. You can get large toaster ovens that can prepare full meals for one, and the skills you already have are probably sufficient to operate those. It isn't hard to cook for yourself. You need to learn more than you know now, but not a whole lot.Happy to talk about more. What else do you want to know? Re: some questions about cooking
Re: some questions about cooking To be completely honest, I pretty much disregard all the instructions on color. I generally know about how long it takes meats to cook, both by time and by smell, when they won't kill or make me sick to eat. If a thing has meat in it, I wait at least that long. Beyond that, I usually wait until it smells good, give it a bit longer than that, and then assume it's done. I then do a texture check, with something like a spatula that lets me poke at the outside and get a general sense of its consistency. If it feels good, I take it off the heat.I can't say the results have always been perfect. But they haven't killed me, and have generally been meals I've been happy to eat because they've both smelled and tasted great. Always exercise caution of course, and if something is cold then maybe toss it in an oven for 5-10 minutes and finish it off. But call that a learning experience, and know that they'll be fewer and further between over time. Re: Lets talk about cooking. Cool, congrats! I remember really loving to cook when I was that age too. What's your favorite thing to make? I think mine was hotdogs. You don't have to stop liking it when you get older. I don't always enjoy cooking the meals I eat daily, but I like smoking briskets or making woodfire-baked pizzas. If you had told the 12-year-old me that I'd prefer my own barbecue to many of the restaurants in my area, I wouldn't have believed it. You've taken the first step on a great path. Olympus LS-P4 recording tips
Olympus LS-P4 recording tips Hey everyone,When the pandemic ends and going out becomes a thing again, I'd like to start carrying my Olympus around and making field recordings in the way some sighted folks take pictures. I'm doing a bit of practice around our homes, though, and have a few questions I'd like to sort out.First, windscreens. I assume there are some? If so, how would you fit them on the mic capsules since they're so small? The central mic also seems to be flush with the recorder, or mostly so anyway. How would you screen that? Product recommendations welcome.Next, how do you minimize handling noise during recordings? Can I do something with the tripod mount, maybe something non-tripodish? I may look for a small tripod for situations where I have a stable recording surface, but given that this thing is standard, I'm wondering if there are any non-tripod mounts that might help here. Vaguely pondering sewing a tripod mount attachment to some sort of shoulder strap so I can support the recorder externally without tying up a hand.Is there any point to messing with the recording width settings? I've got mine set to off, which I assume just takes in sound as it is received. I assume I can add width in something like Reaper if I want, and am using the recorder primarily for sound capture. But maybe there are instances where I'd want this, or maybe I should use a different value. What about external mics? I'm thinking of situations where I find an interesting soundscape and want to capture it in various conditions, but handling an expensive recorder in a way that its mics are exposed makes me nervous. I don't care about stealth at all, but can anyone recommend a good set of clip-on or ear-mounted mics? Not blocking my own ability to hear is also important.Any other tips also welcome. Capturing some good recordings of my silly dog at the moment, but am looking forward to when I can record soundscapes at the park and such. Thanks. Re: Good alternatives to DropBox/Recilio Sync
Re: Good alternatives to DropBox/Recilio Sync There are lots of variables to consider here, but FWIW I'm a big fan of https://syncthing.net. There's no iOS app because the way Syncthing does things would be tough to support there. But essentially, it's the closest thing you'll find to BTSync. You run an instance somewhere--your desktop, a server on the internet, a couple mobile devices, etc. Then you link up the instances either by copy-pasting long identifiers, or by scanning QR codes. The instances then do a whole bunch of NAT-punching and relaying or direct connection to communicate with each other, and sync whatever directories you tell them to. There's no central server or cloud provider involved, unless you run one yourself. And it's just a single binary, so running one isn't too complicated. If you know a bit about autostarting Windows programs, it's pretty easy to do things like sync a music folder between your desktop and Android phone/tablet, laptops, etc. The interface is a web interface running on localhost, for better or worse, and is very usable if not entirely accessible. That may not be what you're looking for, but you weren't terribly specific, and maybe someone else might benefit from this. I use Syncthing everywhere except for iOS and have been happy with it. A central server caches my music/documents off-site and backs them up to S3. Meanwhile, the same Syncthing instance syncs my Keepass database between my phone and desktop, but not to the central server since I'm paranoid and don't want my passwords there. It's a nice system and I'm happy with it. Wish it worked on iOS as well. Re: Tips for safely walking on ice?
Re: Tips for safely walking on ice? @24 The state should have done a lot more than that, like not let much of the power grid collapse and stick us with non-drinkable water for a week or more. Granted, it rarely snows here, so I understand the roads not being cleared. But a lot of balls that shouldn't have been dropped were, and if I say much more then this will become another political rant of the kind that is never productive here.Nevertheless, it's surreal. We're back at 80 today. Tips for safely walking on ice?
Tips for safely walking on ice? God I feel like such a n00b asking this.Texas is having like a once-in-a-generation winter storm. We have patches of ice around, and I'm terrified to even take out my trash for fear of stepping on one of these, falling, and dislocating a shoulder. Strange, being an adult man terrified to take out trash because of a little ice.Tips for doing this blind? To address low-hanging fruit, I'm pretty sure my boots are great, particularly as I spend lots on shoes for that and other reasons. When I do hit ice, they at least don't go flying like my dress shoes did the time 15 years ago when I was stupid enough to wear them on icy parking lot. I'm trying to shuffle so I don't step directly down onto a patch, and in theory at least have a bit of warning that I'm encountering it. But it seems like the ice would be slicker than the surrounding ground, so when I get my warning, I have to notice quickly and react fast in order to not slide even more onto the patch and lose my footing.I'm sure this isn't easy, but tips for doing this blind are very welcome. Also, is there any way to handle it on a downward slope? This is in one of those categories of things, like crossing intersections at major interstate highways even if they're protected, that I'm super hesitant to even practice. But the trash is piling up here, so if there's a Weird Trick(TM) to it for us then I'd really appreciate knowing it.Thanks. As in, we had a cluster of folks dying downtown a few years back because of this stuff. Could be that "weed" was a shorthand for some synthetic weed chemical that caused this. There were also the vaping deaths a few years ago, caused by cartridges cut with something. Re: Has anyone used Quickbooks Online?
Re: Has anyone used Quickbooks Online? It's pretty shitty IME. I ran my consulting business, single-member LLC taxed as an S corp, off of it. The journal is some horrible ARIA table where they didn't properly use attributes, so columns and rows were misreported. Every time I log in to do something, some stupid notification popped up to upsell me on some QBO feature or other.Essentially, when tax time came around, I threw money at my accountant to add rules for my various transactions, so at the end of the year I could spit out CSV and do my taxes. I hate it so much that I pretty much put off logging into it every time I get an email prompting me to take action. It's not so terrible if you, say, click the automated email links to run payroll or electronically file taxes. But go beyond that and you've basically got sighted folks' annoyances times 8, because it's hard enough to use QBO when it's accessible. I only use it because my accountant requires it, and given that I'm spinning down this LLC in a month or two, I'll be ditching it ASAP.Good luck. Was the desktop version any more accessible? Re: what should we do if the forum, Whent down with out any warning?
Re: what should we do if the forum, Whent down with out any warning? Did a bit of thinking, research, and soul-searching over the last day or so, and have decided to walk back my offer to help build a next generation of this community.Put as diplomatically as possible, the kind of community I'd want to build wouldn't look much like this. It would have a mission statement, something along the lines of "advancing gaming for the blind" or similar. It would have a code of conduct to keep discussions civil. It would have a governance process to ensure that the code is followed. And the code and governance would certainly be up for debate, but only in the context of whether or not the mission is being helped or harmed, not "just because I don't like the rules, they don't let me get away with the kind of shit I want to pull. Free speech!" And, at the end of the day, we'd all have voluntarily chosen to be in that community to talk about accessible gaming, so anyone who just shows up and immediately complains about the rules would be unapologetically shown the exit.I came to the conclusion that my effort would fail, in which case I'd be out energy and money which I need right now...or it'd succeed, and I'd get a bunch of people from here migrating there, complaining that they can't share their latest nutjob political opinion because it isn't on-topic, or complaining because acting out their mental health breakdown would get them told to seek help from somewhere that isn't a random internet forum and removed, and I just don't have the bandwidth to be 100 people's dictatorial dad. Sorry. Maybe if 5-6 more folks want what I do and are willing to shoulder the load, but my vision for what audiogames.net 2.0 should look like is probably too big of a leap for many to handle. I hate walking that back, but it's better to do it now rather than after I've committed. As to what to do about audiogames.net: I say someone should set up a cron job to run wget or something similar on a regular interval to scrape the entire site. There's some good info here, and it shouldn't be lost. And I certainly don't advocate nuking the site prematurely. We need to treat this place like it's on borrowed time and could go away at any moment, which is why I'm not building Lights Out Games here and am pointing people elsewhere. We're one bus accident or worse away from losing this place for good. But if someone *does* launch a successor, I'm not sure it should be built with even the implicit expectation that folks can just pick up their drama here and drag it over there. It should start from scratch, and grow organically with a different set of expectations and a separate history. It's much easier to build a new community where expectations grow over time, than it is to have 100 people just show up and act as if the only thing that's different is the domain name.Anyhow, sorry to flipflop like that. I hate watching this place circle the drain since I think it is a necessary and invaluable resource, and wish something could be done about it. I just don't want to create another internet forum where people whine about not being able to talk about the audiovault, or shit-stir about leaving for the half dozenth time and get a bunch of replies and attention as a reward. Life is just too short. Re: Of vaults and audio. @13 Sorry, to be clear, I wasn't saying you were shit-stirring. @1 seems to want to thank folks who likely won't see it, so in other words a no-op, while acting vaguely scandalous that he's kinda sorta saying audiovault but not really. Maybe I'm wrong and AV folks are here, but it wouldn't occur to me to randomly thank random people who likely aren't even here. You want to thank the creators of AudioVault, who probably aren't even here, but then there's this "neener neener, I said a naughty word" undercurrent? Feels a bit disingenuous.FWIW, the AudioVault folks have a Discord, linked to from their site. You could thank them there, as it's pretty active. Re: what should we do if the forum, Whent down with out any warning?
Re: what should we do if the forum, Whent down with out any warning? @53 I'm confused. Are you calling something like Doscourse a custom platform that no one uses? Or are you claiming that individual forums, mailing lists, etc. as used by just about every project I rely on for my work are custom platforms no one uses? Sounds like you're painting a false dichotomy where the internet is divided between the centralized Googles and Reddits, then there are individual communities and people even building software to run same, that no one else uses. Can you plese unconfuse me? If this place moves to Reddit, I won't follow. I'm sure it's possible to use Reddit with a screen reader, just as it's possible to put more effort into doing any number of things. But Reddit's lack of focus on accessibility is the same as hanging out a "you're not welcome here" sign as far as I'm concerned. Why build a community somewhere that doesn't even care that it is inaccessible to you? And no, having to know that you read posts by finding some button and using some other commands to work around the fact that Reddit can't even set tabstops correctly isn't accessibility. It's a huge workaround that anyone joining your community will either get lucky enough to find, or they'll turn away and either go somewhere else or think that there is no place for them. And that's pretty much the opposite of what you want if your intent is to build a community. Re: what should we do if the forum, Whent down with out any warning?
Re: what should we do if the forum, Whent down with out any warning? A few thoughts:1. Definitely agree that we still need a long-form, slower platform like a forum. Chat would be nice for some things as well. Managing them under the same umbrella may or may not be a good thing--I'm not sure yet.2. I wonder if it's time to drop the "audio games" branding and go with something like "blind gamers?" Don't get me wrong, I like audio games and think they still have their place. But even as someone who makes them, I think they're kind of niche and maybe dead-end. If I can figure out how to make graphical games with tiles/2-D sprites, like roguelikes, then I will. But at that point I don't really fit under an "audio games" umbrella.3. Loathed as I am to suggest this, I think we need to use our own things rather than relying on something like Reddit, Facebook, etc. Before the chorus of "wh, that's hard, here are all the challenges you'll face" starts up, I know. But we as blind people can't build on cloud services that may go inaccessible tomorrow and wipe us out. I'm fairly confident GitHub won't go inaccessible without a backlash of some sort, so I'm cool using it for what I need. But Discord randomly breaks accessibility in significant ways, and then you're stuck with their upgraded client and hoping they'll fix it. I get that some of you have found the Konami code to correctly use Reddit, but I think that's an unrealistic expectation for everyone. I, personally, don't even bother with Reddit because I have too much to remember already, and again, they could change their interface tomorrow and make that knowledge useless. Yeah I could press iuoerjmnolif;eaf and correctly read posts, but I'd rather remember VSCode hotkeys and how to use my game engine correctly. One chat system I haven't seen mentioned here is Matrix. Yeah yeah, it's another network, none of your friends use it, yadayadaboo. But it's accessible and improving. You can run your own server or join an existing community. The primary Android and iOS clients are also fairly accessible, audio/video one-to-one and group calls are supported, and the network is robust enough to host FOSDEM's virtual events next week. Might be worth checking out as a possible chat alternative. Fair warning, apparently Google Play just removed Element, the primary Matrix client, because someone reported it for sexually explicit content. Never mind that Chrome won't ever be pulled for the exact same reason. Anyhow, I'm not going down that rabbit hole in this thread--I mention it because if you go looking for Element on Play now, you probably won't find it.Not sure about forums yet, but I'm brainstorming. Discourse's web UI isn't the most accessible, but it does at least have features like mailing list mode for folks who might prefer that. And maybe a few of us could ralley together and fix Discourse, or some other forum software. I wish more folks did what I do and use their skills to fix accessibility where they can, because that pays off massively. And whatever happens, there needs to be some open governance/funding model so this isn't in one person's pocket, and we're in the exact same situation we are today. Should probably be managed on something like opencollective.com. Maybe those of us selling games could sponsor months of costs in exchange for a banner or something? There are Matrix and forum-hosting services, so you'd basically hook them to the bank account of the entity running the thing.Yeah, entity. If this is a community worth having and keeping, and I think some sort of significant blind gamers community is, it's going to require some collective putting on of grown-up pants. Otherwise, some random 14-year-old's forum won't cut it, and even if it takes off and gains traction, it's just kicking the can down the road. I might be tentatively interested in some sort of effort like this if anyone else is with me, but fair warning, it won't look much like this place. It'd be a welcoming community where people behaved themselves, piracy and other bullshit isn't tolerated, and where actual codes of conduct exist and are enforced--in other words, how other non-internet sesspools currently function and thrive. If you don't like that, go play somewhere else. Let me know if anyone else is seriously interested in this effort, because it can't just be me doing it. Re: android phones ideas.
Re: android phones ideas. Yeah, I did a lot of research into the budget line before picking the 4A 5G. It was all strange international brands (I'll leave it to you to guess the country) with sketchy track records for upgrading and software quality, or name brands with slightly older versions of Android and uncertainty as to whether they'd get anything new. The Pixel line is as close to how Apple treats iOS upgrades as you're likely to get under Android, and even that is limited to 3 years. So while you certainly can get something cheaper, the next question is whether you'll want something else in a year or two because Android 12 or 13 brings some cool new bunch of accessibility upgrades that the $100 cheaper handset isn't getting. I'd likely have been happy with the 4A, but the $100 gift certificate brought the 5G's price down to the 4A's level, and I kind of wanted the call screening, call hold, and other features Google just rolled out to the 5G. Not that I generally pick up when I get random calls anyway, but the call screening has already caught one call that I wouldn't have wanted to miss, and has prevented a couple spammers from leaving messages about the warranty on my imaginary car expiring that I'd otherwise have to delete from voicemail. Re: deep fried or air fried
Re: deep fried or air fried Just to pull the thread in a slightly brighter direction:I live in an apartment co-op. If you're familiar with housing co-ops, where everyone chips in and does X hours of chores or building management per week, it's like that but scaled up to a small apartment complex. So I know all of my neighbors, or at least did before COVID. We're not all college students. We actually have a pretty good contingent of older folks, including one of the most amazing humans I know. He's 75, had a couple strokes, but is still incredibly sharp and active in our community. I can't speak to what the next 35+ years will do for us. Maybe we'll make incredible advances. Maybe those of us who are trying to be smart and careful about COVID now will be overrun by the idiots who aren't, zombie-style, only the zombies still theoretically have their brains and should know better. But either way, if I can't live forever or for an amazingly long time fully healthy and strong, I truly believe the key to aging well is by finding a community like this one. We take care of him, and I can truly say without condescension that he does an amazing job of taking care of us. I hope that I'm lucky enough to find such a community when I need it, because I think the reason things are so bad for so many have more to do with the society in which we live and the choices we think we have to make, not with the way things absolutely have to be.But, yeah, I love my air fryer. If I want fried chicken where the crust is a thing in and of itself, I know where to order it. If I want to fry up something quick to scratch a crunchy itch, I throw some breadcrums, egg, and seasoning on some chicken and it's good enough for me. No more worrying about vats of dirty fry oil slipping out of my hands while I'm carrying them to the trash. I was cleaning that stuff off the floor and out of the grout for weeks. Re: android phones ideas.
Re: android phones ideas. Not sure what your definition of "budget" is, but if $350 is budget, then definitely consider the Pixel 4A. It's Google-branded, meaning fast access to updates and Google premium features. I went with the slightly more expensive 4A 5G variant recently in large part because my girlfriend's parents gave me a nice Amazon gift certificate, and I've been very pleased with it. So I've not used the 4A yet, but if it's only marginally worse than this variant then it's a good phone for the price. I'm fairly regularly getting Android security updates, the pone is fast, and TalkBack has improved significantly since my last phone. I tried going super budget and bought a Blackview for $320 in 2018, but that's stuck on Android 7 with an 8 upgrade which reportedly kills batteries, so I stayed on 7. If you can jump to $350, you get a good phone with three years of upgrades from last August. I'm guessing that's at least Android 13, maybe more, and I suspect Lineage will have your back for a bit when Google ends support. And battery performance of newer Android versions is amazing. I'm getting days on partial charges of light to moderate usage. I only worry when I'm watching hours of video, at which point I fast-charge up and am good for hours more of video or days more of moderate use. I'd actually switched my non-phone use to an iPad before I got the Pixel, but now I'm back to using Android full-time, and the iPad only for app development. Any approachable UEB Braille character lists?
Any approachable UEB Braille character lists? Been using the Braille input on Android recently,, and I haven't actively read Braille since UEB became a thing. I'm slowly correcting myself from typing things like N instead of ation, but I keep having to switch back to the QWERTY because I don't know how to input symbols like $. I've tried googling for UEB tables, but everything I've found is not terribly approachable. Does anyone know of, or have, a good list of dots mapping to characters/contractions/symbols in UEB?Also, while an actual Braille document would be great, my Orbit Reader 20 crapped out for the third time, so I no longer have a way of reading for the time being. Specifically looking for lists of dot combinations, especially for symbols typically encountered in URLs, email addresses, etc. I know the UEB rules make this a bit easier by dropping contractions like DIS, but I'm still unclear on other common characters.Thanks. Re: deep fried or air fried I don't tend to make a lot of pre-breaded things in mine. Re: deep fried or air fried
Re: deep fried or air fried I don't think I've ever had anything air-fried that I'd consider more than lightly battered. Definitely doesn't have the same crunch. That said, it usually hits the "I want something crunchy" spot in my brain well enough to be worth the easier clean-up. I made the mistake of dropping an air fryer vat full of oil once while trying to clean it, and the event scarred me for life. Emotionally that is--it was cool oil, but it went everywhere and was a pain to clean. But my air fryer is so rarely used for frying. It's my favorite way to prepare burgers and chicken indoors. I think my contact grill squeezes out too much juice, and everything tastes dry. I also stir fry veggies, make burritos, etc. And when I want something pre-processed, it beats the hell out of heating it up in the microwave. Re: Best ways to keep a ledger?
Re: Best ways to keep a ledger? @7 Unless something has changed in the last few years, the SSA doesn't actively poll your bank account. They'll actively request records every few years and, if you don't provide them, they'll likely proactively request them from your bank. They also have access to tax returns, and proactively adjust benefits (and presumably make decisions on overpayments) based on that.To be clear, I'm not saying that gives someone latitude to do whatever. I'm saying, don't do whatever you think is right and expect SSA to correct your mistakes the next month. They'll catch up with you years later and, at least in my situation, they'll smack you with an overpayment judgment and not give a rat's ass that they're garnishing your SSI down from ~$700 to ~$500 even though you tell them that you don't currently have any income. Fortunately I'm lucky enough to have an incredibly detail-oriented sighted girlfriend who helped me track down hundreds of pages of paperwork, and with a file that was literally an inch thick I won my appeal and got that money back, but it took years of work and probably netted me a $5/hour rate to fix their mistake. And that's not even counting the few months of overpayment the SSA made even though I told them I had income and didn't qualify, then wanted to claw back 6 months later. Fortunately I still had that gig and was able to pay them back the $1300 without blinking, but IME SSI is a timebomb that will go off when you least expect if you have any income whatsoever, so dot your Is and cross your Ts. Jury's still out on SSDI, but thus far I've had it for 7 years and haven't had any issues. Even the social security workers I speak to are nicer to me about SSDI vs. SSI, which is all sorts of fucked up but I'll take it over the alternative. But, yeah. Just learn the rules, be aware of what you're spending, and that's good enough. Keep a ledger if you want to learn about accounting, have a complex business situation, or have issues with money. But don't do it just because some SSA functionary tells you to. Because, even if you kept a ledger, how would you know what is and what isn't problematic unless you've read SSA's policy manuals or website? Silly advice IMO. Re: Best ways to keep a ledger?
Re: Best ways to keep a ledger? If you don't mind learning the easy-to-learn text format, and also learning a bit about personal finances/accounting, there's https://ledger-cli.org. As the URL implies, it's a CLI program. The manual has a pretty good intro to accounting concepts if you aren't familiar with those. It was simple enough to help me with budgeting when I used it personally a few years back, though I'll probably start using it for business soon since I need to start record-keeping again and QBO is a massive dumpster fire. Point is, it's flexible enough for both use cases, and if I ever need an accountant again, I'll cross that bridge when I get there. That said, Camlorn is right. The SSA telling you to keep a ledger is certainly nice for them, but a pain in the ass for you if you don't need to or want to. Generally, and this isn't legal advice, but keep your entire assets below $2000 if you're getting SSI, and understand the shit out of their rules if you ever earn income. Read the SSA's website for what exactly an asset is, but for your purposes, an asset is probably just about any money you might have. If that ever goes above $2000, be prepared for a world of hurt, and I speak from personal experience. If you're on SSDI, you have a bit more latitude, but I don't want to go into those specifics because a) they're a bit more complicated and b) I don't really wanna. All that is to say, there's a resource if you want to learn a bit about personal finance and keep a ledger, but the SSA is probably just giving you advice that's going to waste your time, as long as you remain below $2000 in assets and understand earned vs. unearned income. Maybe that's more than you wanted from some rando's internet comment. Olympus LS-P4 accessibility review/guide?
Olympus LS-P4 accessibility review/guide? Just got one of these for Christmas, and am wondering if anyone knows a good accessibility review/guide for this thing? I don't need hand-holding--a button guide might be all I need--but some accessibility tips would be nice too. I'll have my girlfriend give me a button rundown, but if anyone has done this work already then I'm happy to benefit from it. Also, recommendations for a good and easy field recording setup? I imagine the built-in mics aren't bad, but holding it plus a cane, or running behind my girlfriend's wheelchair and trying to record something, is gonna get old and dicey quick. Any good, easy-to-wear binaural or stereo mic recommendations that don't block my hearing? Planning on doing a mix of capturing things for memories plus recording any cool ambiences or sounds I find for use in games, so I'd like decent quality if possible. I think I found the tripod mount--are there any other more portable uses for that? I'm not likely to have a tripod on me when I find something interesting to capture, but if there's some other way to keep the mics exposed while not tying up a hand, that'd be nice.Thanks. Re: Simple Reaper video editing, getting no audio
Re: Simple Reaper video editing, getting no audio Promise I won't make this my Reaper questions dumping ground, but I seem to recall there being some no-brainer Reaper suggestions for improving accessibility? Settings to tweak, for instance?Right now my biggest issue is that it doesn't seem like what I imagine the play head is actually corresponds with what gets played. So for instance, I hit right-arrow a few times until Reaper/Osara announces "10%", but playback always starts from the beginning, or wherever I may have paused it. I'm guessing the playback head is decoupled from wherever I am in the timeline, which makes just about everything painful. I snipped off most of the unwanted video at the beginning, but there's about half a second left. What I want to do is press [ at 0, play until I want to cut, press ], then use the various selection move commands until I'm happy with what I want to delete. But the fact that the playback head is doing its own thing is complicating things, and I can't put anything I read on reaperaccessibility.com into practice. Re: Simple Reaper video editing, getting no audio
Re: Simple Reaper video editing, getting no audio OK, figured it out. Reaper and VLC need to both be 64-bit, and VLC kindly buried the lead. I downloaded the 32-bit version, and the only way to get the 64-bit build was to expand some sort of popup menu. Now we're good. Re: Simple Reaper video editing, getting no audio
Re: Simple Reaper video editing, getting no audio So after finding a codec info button and clicking that, I see:Available decoder information:== VLC ==VLC install path not found, install VLC 2.1.x-3.0.xSearch paths:C:\Program Files\REAPER (x64)\VLCWTF is it looking for a VLC installation in its own directory? I literally installed this morning and changed no other settings than the audio device, so it isn't as if this installation has been kicking around for years and I've tweaked a bunch of things. Also, how do I actually point to my main VLC installation? There is a Paths setting, but it seems to be related to where it saves files, not where it looks for things.I installed Handbreak but it seems to be an accessibility hot mess. Can't seem to add my MKV file for transcoding. I'm going to just do it old school and run ffmpeg like a real Linux geek. Re: Simple Reaper video editing, getting no audio
Re: Simple Reaper video editing, getting no audio OK, so I installed VLC, used Insert media file to add the video track, and playback still doesn't work. Checked the wiki, and it isn't apparent that I'm doing anything wrong. I've confirmed that the video plays in VLC. Is there something else I need to do? I also moved playback to the beginning of the project to make sure the playback head wasn't at the end or something ridiculous.I haven't installed Handbreak yet. Is that needed to play video in Reaper as well? I understand that it may be needed later--I'm just working on trimming the edges right now. Also, related to Handbreak, why would I need to transcode the video? Itch lets me insert either Youtube or Vimeo links. I'd have assumed Youtube or Vimeo would handle whatever transcoding needs to be done better than I could, but obviously I'm new to this. Essentially, as long as it looks good and works on devices, I'm happy with it. I don't want to go too far into the weeds with video codecs and the like.Thanks. Simple Reaper video editing, getting no audio
Simple Reaper video editing, getting no audio Hey folks,Trying to polish off and release Onslaught, and my Itch page needs gameplay videos. I managed to capture a tutorial run in OBS, but of course there's a bit before and after where I launch the game from the console, then exit back, and I'd like to trim that out. I thought Reaper could do this, and indeed my research suggests that it can, but whenever I insert the video and see it as a track, I get no sound when playing it. The video definitely has sound, and I've confirmed that I can play it in Windows' video player. Also, while I just installed Reaper on this system yesterday, I've confirmed that audio plays fine when loaded into Reaper. Is video handled differently than audio in Reaper? I've done basic audio editing and assumed trimming the ends of my video would be a no-brainer, but alas.Is there some other video editor that would let me do this accessibly? I have access to a mac and iPad if that makes a difference, and may pull it into something on one of those to give it a shot. I did tell OBS to only capture full-screen windows and launched the game full-screen, so hopefully trimming the ends is all the editing I need.Thanks. Re: Self-managed/hosted Remote Desktop Solutions I thought it had hosting support. Re: Windows app to output continuous low-volume audio?
Re: Windows app to output continuous low-volume audio? OK, found another source that doesn't trigger a virus warning, and based on my experiences and what I read of this app, it isn't working. According to https://mosen.org/soundsfrustrating/, this outputs silence and solves a slightly different issue. I'm not dealing with a driver/power management issue, or at least, I don't think so. This is the actual sound hardware, post driver, deciding it isn't getting audio and shutting down. What I need is to output some very quiet audio that humans aren't likely to hear. On Linux, I use this incantation:play -qn synth sine 22000 vol 0.01That outputs a quiet 22 KHz sin wave. I can't get the same incantation working under Windows because I can't figure out how to set up sox to directly output. "-t waveout -d" just tells me no default device is configured, and I've checked out a few superuser/Stack Overflow questions that haven't given me working values to fill in.I'll keep poking sox, but in the meantime, something that I can rig up to loop a 22 KHz sin wave quietly would be helpful if such a thing exists. Similar is good too--it doesn't have to be 22 KHz, just something that is likely to be inaudible to humans.Thanks. Windows app to output continuous low-volume audio?
Windows app to output continuous low-volume audio? Kind of a long shot but figured I'd ask. I use an HDMI sound bar on my desktop. It seems to have an annoying anti-feature of shutting off whenever it doesn't get audio for 10-15 seconds. It powers up quickly, but usually drops the first bit of any incoming audio. So if I, say, stop typing for a few seconds, then type again, the first letter I type isn't spoken. Likewise for system alerts and such. This is not a driver issue. Happened under Linux as well. I've been through the manual for this thing, as well as the reverse-engineered Python API someone created. To the best of my knowledge, there is no hardware setting to help with this, and it behaves well otherwise. My only definite fix was to create a systemd unit under Linux that used sox to output something like a 20 KHz continuous tone with a volume of 0.0001, so essentially too quiet for me to hear but enough to keep the hardware alive. Is there anything that might do this under Windows? Worst case, I can probably rig up a service to call Sox myself and do this. But apparently this HDMI sound sleep issue is common enough and has enough related breakage that Pulse at least has some functionality to keep HDMI hardware alive (though not in the "this thing needs to output low-amplitude audio" case.) Given that Windows audio is a bit more versatile than the mess that is Linux, I'm hopeful that there's some obscure app that does this for me.Thanks. Re: Discussion of the 2020 American Federal Election
Re: Discussion of the 2020 American Federal Election @330 Maybe my words are wasted, but I'd suggest researching right to work laws. Unless you're unionized, you can in fact be discriminated against for any damned reason an employer chooses, barring the narrow cases of protected class. But even then, good luck filing a discrimination claim, and even if you're hired, you're pretty much scorching that earth.FWIW, I do get where you're coming from. I live in Texas, and the state would love nothing more than for my girlfriend to go die in a nursing home. There are some people who will continue perpetuating that harm for as long as they draw breath, and I'm pretty much of the mindset that sometimes the best course for a rabid dog is for it to not be alive anymore. Harsh, sure, but when you're actively trying to send my girlfriend to places that literally run fight clubs, or where the response to there being lead in the water is "what's the harm in giving a bunch of disabled folks lead to drink?", and I see the effects of those policies play out every day when she looks for staff she can't hire because Dairy Queen pays more than she can, the folks responsible pretty much lose my complete respect as a human being until they stop doing those things. But free speech doesn't mean I can trumpet that opinion without consequence, nor does it grant me any protection from anyone other than the government. And even that is a) limited and b) not applicable on a private forum, especially not one likely hosted outside the US as I imagine this one is.Probably won't change anything, but worth considering. Re: Discussion of the 2020 American Federal Election I think I'm just going to ban politics, religion, and a few other hot-button issues from discussion in any communities I'm responsible for in the future. The only good to come of this is now I know a few people's true colors, and while arguably that might be a good thing, I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me a little sad. Has anyone's mind been changed by any of this, and if so, has it made up for the general taint of filth from someone here wishing some of my friends would be put down like scum when the whole reason they're rising up is that a group of mostly white bullies has been doing that very thing for years? Re: Wondering what's wrong with me.
Re: Wondering what's wrong with me. That's certainly not what I intended in @15. I meant that you can get your motivation back if you're intentional about the fact that you're struggling with something right now and work on addressing that, which at this point likely means seeking help. I wouldn't just passively wait for things to get better, nor would I give up and assume it will never get better. And to be doubly clear, I'm not saying "choose to be happy" or any such bullshit, because in my experience that doesn't really work. One thing I'm having to do right now is recognize that I have certain feelings, that they're part of the depression I struggle with, and that I shouldn't make decisions based on those feelings. So some days I make myself exercise and try not to go too far down the existential "I'm literally running in place for an hour, if that isn't a metaphor for my life right now then I don't know what is" rabbit hole. I recognize that as a depression thought, let myself feel the associated feelings, then push on anyway. It's hard, and getting there took time and work.Anyway, please reach out to a professional. There isn't a lot that random internet people on a forum can do to help, other than validate your feelings and share their own experiences. Re: Wondering what's wrong with me.
Re: Wondering what's wrong with me. You can almost certainly get your motivation back. You just need to be a bit more intentional about getting there. Emotional health is a lot like physical health. You won't build muscle and lose weight by just sitting on the couch wanting that. Also, and very important, you won't do those things by people yelling at you to do them. You'll do it by, well, doing it. You'll likely have to put in the effort to feel better somehow. Even so, sometimes just exercising isn't enough to reach a physical health goal, so you'll have to use multiple approaches. With mental/emotional health, you may have to try more than one thing, or even more than one thing simultaneously, to get better. In summary, you can get better. You just have to work at it. Re: Wondering what's wrong with me.
Re: Wondering what's wrong with me. I don't think there are any right answers. I also don't necessarily think that a situation being done means talking can't help. Sometimes effects linger after a situation is directly resolved, and sometimes those effects make sense to be dealt with outside of the original context. As a personal example, my girlfriend uses a wheelchair and needs my help on a fairly regular basis. Without going into too many details, there was once a time when she seemed to stop looking for help beyond me and 1-2 other places that weren't really working out. Needless to say, regularly having to drop everything and rush a couple miles over to help her out with little notice and no perceived choice in the matter put a huge strain on our relationship. I think it's safe to say we eventually resolved the direct issue, and she's *much* better at using more strategies to get the help she needs. Even so, that had a huge impact on my own emotional health, and there were some personal issues I had to work through outside of the issues between us in order to put things behind me.Anyway, I don't mean to pretend that I have the answers, know the right path for you, or the right path period, full stop. And I'll probably bow out after this point as to not give or perpetuate that impression. I do agree with Jayde and others that there are other issues beyond depression that can cause this. I think what matters most is that you approach a good professional with whom you feel comfortable, in whichever field you feel most comfortable working in. A good doctor will test for chemical imbalances or other issues, and suggest a good therapist if that makes sense. A good therapist will check all the boxes medical-wise, and won't talk you through a thing that can't be talked through. There isn't a whole lot that folks on a forum can do for you other than to encourage keeping an open mind and taking the next step, and to that end I hope I've succeeded.Good luck, and hope you get your motivation back. Re: Wondering what's wrong with me.
Re: Wondering what's wrong with me. Definitely sounds like depression. Not sure what you meant by talking being out of the question because you've already tried it, but I'd caution against dismissing *anything* unless you absolutely know that it will have a detrimental effect. The right therapist really does make all the difference, but unfortunately it's kind of on you as the client to a) make that determination and/or b) steer things back on course when they go off, and you don't always necessarily have that bandwidth when you're in the thick of it and are looking for help. Also, medicine isn't a quick fix, but it can sometimes help. I think of it as if I'm treading water and am starting to get tired, then suddenly I extend my legs and feel the bottom beneath me. I can't necessarily stand stable on that bottom, but it just being there means I don't have to tread water quite as vigorously, and that I can start walking into shore vs. trying to stay afloat.Speaking for myself and only myself, I'm struggling with some pretty bad depression right now. But I've done this for long enough to know that I really just have to keep making the right decisions, and just as importantly, forgiving myself when I *don't* make the right decisions, until things get better. I'm supplementing that with CBD, and some other things that I probably shouldn't mention here and don't encourage. I think it's also important to recognize that we're in the middle of a global crisis right now, and that's going to affect what we can do to take care of ourselves. So use whatever strategies you have, within limits of course, and take care of yourself. Hope that helps a bit. Re: Good Windows image-based backup? Oh, man, this thing is complicated. I think I enabled the accessible checkboxes, but I don't know for sure as the accessible checkbox state isn't read. What are these "&" characters at random places in the checkbox labels? I *thought* they might be present when the box was checked, but they're sometimes in the middle of words which doesn't make any sense.I thought I could handle the traditional mode, but it's a bit beyond me. In particular, when scheduling differential or incremental backups, I don't know if I need to match up all the filenames manually, or if it'll do that for me. I.e. by default it appends the time, but I don't know if that would work with a scheduled backup.I'll keep plugging away at it. Re: Olympus LS P4 questions
Re: Olympus LS P4 questions I also think that Olympus may use proprietary AAAs of some sort. At least, if you want USB charging it might. I put a couple in an older unit that were charged, the thing worked, then it stopped and wouldn't charge over USB again. I had to put the batteries in a separate charger.I may be entirely wrong about that, and there may be some way to make it charge regular rechargeables. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Good Windows image-based backup?
Good Windows image-based backup? Hey folks, looking for a good image-based backup tool for Windows and am having some trouble.Part of my challenge is that I'm using RClone to mount my Google One storage as a drive, and some image-based backup tools flat out refuse to work with this. In particular, the legacy Windows 7 backup tool that several have recommended won't work, even if I tell RClone to pretend the mount is a network share. RClone uses WinFSP, and I'm guessing some of these backup solutions get at the list of drives outside of userspace so aren't seeing it even though it appears fine in Explorer and shells.I've been giving Macrium Reflect a shot, but I cannot navigate its interface. I managed to create an XML definition and make one backup from the UI using menus. Now I'm trying to set up a schedule and am failing. I'm supposed to right-click the backup definition, but I can't seem to reliably make the tree of definition files appear, and as soon as I right-click it vanishes. I cannot have this much bullshit from a piece of software I need to rely on.Also tried AOMI or however you spell it, and it was entirely inaccessible.Recommendations welcome. P.s. Recommending something file-based like File History is going to miss the mark entirely on this one since I'm looking for something image-based.Thanks. Re: Current, or recently releaced, accessible audio recorders? Neat, thanks, I'll check one of these out. Wanted to take up field recording while traveling as a photo alternative, plus capturing ambience for games where it makes sense. Thanks for helping me sort through the pile of Olympuses. Re: Current, or recently releaced, accessible audio recorders?
Re: Current, or recently releaced, accessible audio recorders? Thanks. Does the 4 charge over micro USB? One disadvantage of what I have right now is that it is literally the only gadget I own that charges over mini. I think I have a mini USB cable in some junk box at the back of some closet somewhere... Re: Current, or recently releaced, accessible audio recorders?
Re: Current, or recently releaced, accessible audio recorders? Related: does anyone know a resource that breaks down the differences between all the various Olympus recorders? There are so many, and I don't know what distinguishes them.I'm particularly interested because I know the older Olympus recorders did all their speech via pre-recorded audio, but I thought there were 1-2 that actually had screen readers and synthesized speech. I might be wrong about that, but a definite disadvantage of the pre-recorded speech was that formatting the unit got rid of it, and you needed to restore it via software.Thinking of replacing my old Olympus DM420 or DM520 with something newer, but having wiped the pre-recorded speech several times accidentally, if there's a synthesized option, I'd rather go for that. But even so, knowing the difference between these similarly-named models would also be nice, as I want something more for ambiance capture than for recording meetings and voice. Re: accessibility for the oculus quest 2
Re: accessibility for the oculus quest 2 To add a bit to my last post:It looks like the question of VR accessibility is getting some thought. This came across one of my mailing lists last night:https://www.w3.org/TR/xaur/So that's where we are. Specs, and not a lot else. Granted, it's a start, but I doubt there are any current implementations. Re: accessibility for the oculus quest 2
Re: accessibility for the oculus quest 2 FWIW, I kind of get where Camlorn is coming from here. Let me explain.I'd love to see audio games, and accessible games in general, on all sorts of new form factors. But even if a game is amazing and playable by blind folks, it doesn't do anyone any good if they can't get to the game to begin with. So say I create some amazing VR game with no visuals but amazing audio. If you can't get to the store on the device to install it because there's no screen reader, or can't get to the settings to sideload third-party apps, what does it matter?I've actually given some thought to VR audio games. I'm sure they'd be great, because from what I understand, the hardware is pretty solid. But until we see a decent screen reader on these devices, who cares? I don't. And I say that as a former owner of an HTC G1 running Android 1.6, literally the first Android phone. Until these VR devices get any accessibility whatsoever, I as a developer and potential power user don't care at all about them. And that may be Camlorn's perspective too, but I don't want to presume. It isn't harsh, or at least, not harshness aimed at the poster. It's harshness aimed at the idea of having to fight with yet another inaccessible device. And who would buy a $300 or more headset just to run my $5 game? Probably no one. So, in short, I don't care about these devices either. And that's sad, because a device with decent spatial audio and probably some sort of gyroscope would be incredible if it cost $20 or so and plugged into your Windows desktop or paired with your phone. Re: Password managers, iOS, and accessible autofill
Re: Password managers, iOS, and accessible autofill Thanks, folks, figured it out. Apparently, autofill doesn't work on iPads with the split keyboard enabled. Or rather, when I disabled the split keyboard, I saw a Passwords button and everything works like I'd expect. Ugh, not the first major iOS bug I've found so far. It's nice, but not the accessibility paradise I was led to expect. Password managers, iOS, and accessible autofill
Password managers, iOS, and accessible autofill Hey folks,Grabbed an app called Strongbox for my iPad which claims Keepass compatibility. I opened my database correctly, enabled autofill in settings, and checked Strongbox. I can't, however, find any way to autofill passwords using VoiceOver. How does autofill work in VO? Reading about it suggests that there should be a button or option somewhere, but I can't find one and wonder if it's tied to a gesture or something. I've triple-checked that autofill and Strongbox are enabled, and have tried on multiple sites in Firefox and Safari, as well as in native apps. So either something *else* has to be enabled, or there is some other gesture I should be using. The only way I've found to use Strongbox is by cut-and-paste, which is a bit painful.Thanks. Re: Taming the beast that is FooBar2000
Re: Taming the beast that is FooBar2000 @6 Cool, thanks for pointing all that out. That at least sands off the roughest edges so I can figure out the rest. I was pasting in podcast links by hand because I couldn't find OPML import, and the one long list made the whole process so much less appealing. Re: Taming the beast that is FooBar2000
Re: Taming the beast that is FooBar2000 Cool, thanks folks. I somehow missed the quick setup, but it looks like the configuration screen lets me revisit it. I've done so, and now I actually have my music behaving how I'd like. I'll disable the classic UI, which I only went with as per a recommendation in another thread. The issue I'm hitting now is with podcasts. I've installed the podcatcher addon, and they feel like a bit of an afterthought. They're kind of plunked in a list alongside my music, and while I only have one added, it isn't displayed in a tree or anything. So I suspect I'll just get a long list of tracks from all podcasts intermingled. Maybe I'm wrong about that. Ugh, I hate this trend toward ecosystems, where I'm expected to just subscribe to my podcasts on a platform vs. carrying around my subscriptions in OPML. Get off my damned lawn, Spotify!Anyhow, it could be that I shouldn't be using FooBar for podcatching, which is fine. Different tools for different jobs, and all. Thanks for at least helping me get my music displaying in a sane structure, and I'll gradually play around with more settings over time. Taming the beast that is FooBar2000
Taming the beast that is FooBar2000 I've actually tried FooBar2000 in the past and didn't like it much, but since enough of you have recommended it, I wanted to know how you've tamed it? In particular:I'm told to switch to the classic UI. I install the addon, but whereas before my podcasts view was a scrollable list, the classic UI makes it non-interactible via the keyboard. Is there something I need to change to fix that, or should I not be using this UI? Essentially, I hear what episode ostensibly has focus, but arrowing does nothing to change that. When FooBar opens, it lands on a playlists view. I don't do playlists. If I want to listen to something, I prefer to select the album or artist and play that way. I see the albums view, but essentially this means that whenever I want to listen to something, I need to navigate to that view. Is there some way to make that the default? And, in general, other configuration tweaks are welcome. Honestly, as is, this is worse than just about any Linux music player I've tried, and the only things that made *those* worse was that some weren't accessible at all. Maybe there are some config tweaks and addons that make this an absolute powerhouse, which is why I'm asking. And I'd rather not go full invisible UI and hotkey-only for now. I like that Windows has more global hotkeys, but between NVDA/Keepass/TWBlue, plus retraining decades of muscle memory, I'm kind of at hotkey overload this week. Thanks. Re: Corsair Void Pro headset, Windows, and accessibility
Re: Corsair Void Pro headset, Windows, and accessibility I spoke too soon. I did seem to enable surround sound. Not sure why the exact same thing did nothing earlier, but it does switch between presets. I seem to have 5 profiles with maybe increasing amounts of bass, but I'm not entirely sure what the difference is. I don't yet have a decent sound source to test with.I'm probably not the best to compare setups, though. My actual surround system isn't super well installed. I put a couple screws at roughly the same height into the wall above my bed for the rear speakers, and used a metric arm-width to approximate the width. I also just got the Corsair working, and am looking for good games to test it out with. Sorry, if I have any definitive comparisons then I'll check in. I'll certainly give it a shot with Onslaught once I get that working in the Windows dev environment. Corsair Void Pro headset, Windows, and accessibility Bought one of these a while back and have used it under Linux, but would now like to use its surround sound capabilities under Windows. Does anyone else have one of these, and if so, how do I use it accessibly?I installed the IQ app, but it seems like a mess of unlabelled buttons.
