Here is a recent interview between Edd Voon and a staff member at electronic playground discussing mk11, robocop and terminator and moreThe video is about 25 minutes long, and he also goes into discussion on the development side of things, as well as give advice to prospecting devs at the very end. I found this discussion enjoyable, hope you do as well.

no, even in this aftermath expansion, the chapters are laveled. chapter 13: time's arrow. and the narration says time's arrow, but not chapter 13.it is not important at all, but they could'be recorded 5 more lines for the chapters, don't you think?

after selecting story, you have a menu with part 1: MK eleven, part 2: aftermath. after selecting aftermath, it's like the first time you launch the story mode. it doesn't show you the chapter selection menu, just select the difficulty, and start. from the second time onwards, when selecting aftermath, the chapters are read.spoilers!time's arrow, guardian for life.winds of change, vissions of empire.checkmate, credits.end spoilers.

Re: Big-ass spoiler warning: Mortal Kombat 11 aftermath discussion

Meh. I wouldn't say I really enjoyed one over the other. SF V's was entertaining to play through, load times never bothered me, and I played to see how the SF characters would look in a cinematic story mode more than for the plot itself. Of the three latest MK titles, my favourite story mode is stil MK 9 which felt more like Mk and not like every other generic hollywood superhero b movie. Never played MVC I's story mode though, and after everything people've said, I'm glad I didn't. As I also said in the other topic, I play through story modes once. But the base gameplay has to be fun for me to enjoy the story mode which is why I enjoyed SF V's and Tekken 7. There were plot holes there too, but the gameplay and presentation entertained me enough without feeling like hollywood. Capcom could definitely take a leaf out of NRS's book when it comes to loading times, for sure. But that wasn't a deal breaker for me either. I haven't touched that story mode since I played it the first time.

You can buy aftermath with season 1 for 50 bucks. Since you got the game used, that's what you can shoot for. Not sure if it works without the season 1 stuff, but the standalone is 40 bucks, but then you would have to pay extra to buy season 1 separately. I need to pick up shao eventually.

Re: Big-ass spoiler warning: Mortal Kombat 11 aftermath discussion

If we want to look at bad writing, plot holes and poor pacing, look no further than marvel vs Capcom Infinite's story mode lol. That and street fighter 5's story feel like pale imitations when you compare them to what nrs has been pumping out. I remember how anticlimactic the ending for infinite felt when I finally killed the boss. I remember how ridiculous it felt when after getting his ass kicked by me, this dude just go right on making trouble in sf5 like our fights never happened. And one thing that always broke my emerson to the story in both games were the long load times between fights and cutscenes. I mean I enjoyed the gameplay for sure, but those guys could learn a thing or two from nrs when it comes to story presentation. Lol this probably should have gone into fighting game banter but figured I'd put it here since we're on the subject.

I know, it's a good two hours worth of cutscenes, maybe a bit more.  Plus having the original actor for Shang makes it an instant want.So I've got them all down, but they are in a text document.  Will taht suffice for now?  I will look into headings, as it can't be that difficult.  Bear in mind that most abilities don't have the ingame descriptions, though if people want I can work on putting those in too.  It was fiddly enough making sure I had them all listed for now.  Also apart from the last three dlc characters, we do have the button combinations at least.

It may also be the fact that I'm more picky about good dialog and writing than others. Most probably don't care.Other fighting games actually do it as well, and they do it better. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle, every entry in the Blazblue series, Guilty Gear, etc. But that should definitely be in the other topic...

Hi.at Assault well yeah the dialogue certainly isn't that high in quality, but for a fighting game it's still quite ok, it gets the job done and it does get entertaining.I do like the character banter before a fight for example in the arcade ladder. Yeah, some of it is sorta strange, but generally it's cool to see how certain characters react to others, I really would like to see this in other fighters.BTW, I will create a generall fighting game banter topic so we don't need to derail this topic.Greetings Moritz.

Re: Big-ass spoiler warning: Mortal Kombat 11 aftermath discussion

My absolute favorite tekken games are tekken 3 on psx and tekken dark resurrection on psp. Tekken 5 which dark resurrection was based on has like 4 different arcade games on the disc, which also make it worth owning in my opinion. Tekken 5 was a celebration of ten years of the series, so it had arcade sports of tekken 1, 2 and 3, as well as a bonus unlockable space shooter that is shown upon bootup as a reference to how the original tekken on playstation let you play the bonus stage in galiga while the game is loading, but in the case of tekken 5, you can play through the entirety of the fully voiced arcade port of star blade. After spending tons of hours with tekken 5, I got dark resurrection on psp, which drops the arcade games, the free roaming side-story dedicated to gin, and introduced 2 new characters, and tons more gameplay modes including tekken dojo and tekken bowling. For the first time ever, I felt like I was playing an uncompromised port of a console game on a handheld, and that's what makes that one special to me.There is not a single dud in the main series or spinoff and I can find something positive to say about all of them. Tekken 4 and 5/dark resurrection introduces voiced bios for each characters, so maybe start with one of those, but you can't go wrong with anything from tekken 1 through 7, and either of the tekken tag games. Tekken advance is bare bones but was fine for a portable console of it's time, and tekken 3d prime is a slightly stripped down version of tekken 6 for the 3ds in terms of modes but makes up for it by including of a full length movie.Back on topic, I am kinda curious how long the story content is myself and hope it lasts a while. Those who have yet to buy the game are getting a really good deal, especially when the full package goes on discount. I'm only paying 6 bucks more than I would if I never bought the game, so not too bothered, but I can understand the frustration of those that bought the original at full price. I'm just happy to support netherrealm for keeping mk alive and relevant.

You may as well get 7. 3 if you want to get a taste of what Tekken used to be like closer to its routes, but most hardcore tekken players which I am not one of will tell you that Tekken 7, even with the new rage mechanics, is still one of the best games in the series. It's had a solid scene since it first came out in 2015 in the arcades and still has a huge following especially in Asia. 3 is definitely  a classic. But let's not breach the topic any more than already has been... appologies again for derailing it.

So as the subject was breeched, I'm gonna ask, as someone who's never experienced tekken and wants to, which games would you recommend tracking down?  3? 7?  I hear good things, but thought I'd ask others who have played.  Back to MK though, I'll consider this new bundle once we find out realistically how much content is in it.  £40 is a lot considering I shelled out 80 last year and honestly don't feel like I really got my money's worth in the experience.  I do enjoy playing, but not nearly to the level of 9 or x.  there are just too many systems in the game and progression system that appear to want me not to enjoy this game as much as I would love to.

Responsiveness is a whole different discussion... there could be a whole other topic just on fighting game depth alone because opinions on this forum are widely varied. And I've always been a bit of a minority, I think. lol But geting back to topic yes Simba, I did notice those hit sounds. And I think I'll buy the complete package of this game when it gets a litle cheaper if I get it at all. Sad to see dialog is still cringy, though.

Man those fighting sounds lol. Anyone notice how the impacts of the hits drown out the voices? I'm not really a fan of that but whatever. I'm still excited, and at least no one can complain about their choice of music this time around. This is more in line with what music we expect from the mk series. To address the vit about rage arts, I called rage arts an easy way to reclaim victory was because its intent was to bridge the skill gap between differently skilled players. In that way are they similar to xrays and fatal blows in their intent of leveling the playing field in a flashy and dramatic way. Not meaning to knock tekken's fighting engine. I still quite like it for what it still is, just that it has become more like other fighting games. But yeah, there's no real wrong or right answer about which of these is better. All are good in their own way, it's just a matter of preference if they are mechanically sound in design i.e hit detection is accurate, controls are responsive etc, in this case they are.

Rage arts are not an easy way to victory. They come out even slower than x-ray moves / fatal blows and are super easy to punish. Yes juggles exist in both and there are similarities, but my personal thought is that Tekken is much deeper, but that's just my opinion of course. Tekken has an entire TV show dedicated to it, which says something to me. lol Anyhow, again, I digress. Talking about fighting game depth is like console wars... there isn't one right answer.

Re: Big-ass spoiler warning: Mortal Kombat 11 aftermath discussion

I think that combo strings and juggles are just as present in mk as they are in tekken. They are just shorter and have more variety to make up for the lack of 3d movement, especially in the last 2 games it would seem. I remember how I used to pull off a 23 hit juggle combo with Liu kang in mk9, and part of that was bouncing the enemy off the walls, but I think that the shortening g of combo strings and juggle opportunities was introduced to add more variation to what techniques you rely on, because I just dont seem to be able to find combos like that anymore, and destructible walls and stage transitions seem to be there so that people dont rely so much on wall bounce backs. That's not to say that tekkens gameplay isnt as deep as mk, it's just as deep, but in a much different yet similar way, especially since both games are 4 button fighters and have a foundation of combo strings. As a side note, I really liked tekken's fighting engine until they introduced rage arts in tekken 7. Yeah they are like mk's fatal blows and xrays, but I really wish that tekken didnt become like other fighting games by introducing slow motion dramatic flashy specials, so I favor what was there from the first game on up to 6 and tekken tag tournament 2, so was able to grant the series a greater amount of respect for not trying to be like other fighting games and give people an easy way to reclaim bictory.

Re: Big-ass spoiler warning: Mortal Kombat 11 aftermath discussion

Well, deep is subjective, because MK fans will probably say that there's depth in MK's as well. But the depth in MK lies in the custom variations, what moves you equip your characters with, and chaining basic combo strings together. But admittedly, I also don't know the MK system inside and out the way I know other games. For me, depth is about differences in the way characters play when compared to each other, and the metagame also, which is why I love Samurai Shodown so much. The game is simple, there aren't tons of mechanics and systems to memorize. But the metagame is super deep because you have to be careful and read your opponent much more so than in some other modern games. Tekken also, for a couple reasons. Characters don't have special moves, but instead have dozens of single techniques and some basic strings, that the game then leaves to you to string together for juggles or damage, etc. Spacing, side stepping, etc is also very important, so movement is a bigger deal. But again, MK fans and more competetive players would know better than me, this is just my own personal opinion. I simply personally don't get as great a sense of layered complexity in MK as I do from other games.

Re: Big-ass spoiler warning: Mortal Kombat 11 aftermath discussion

I don't mean the realism of the fighting... I mean the atmosphere and presentation. MK's universe for the past two games with its presentation and focus on timelines and the like has turned it into a superhero story, which isn't quite what I think of when I think MK. The fighting system wasn't deep even back in older games, but the characters, music, everything was clearly martial arts inspired. Not anymore which is unfortunate because that was one of the things I always loved about MK. It's always been an interesting take on the martial arts genre. The martial arts roots I'm talking about don't have to do anything with people scrapping without getting too technical or the lack of fighting depth. But it most certainly feels clunky to me. lol But anyway, sorry for highjacking the topic. And I'm in full agreement with the MK 11 sounds being awful... cheap attempt to sound like hollywood. MK X's sounds weren't bad, and 9 was great. Personally though, I think the 3d games of Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon, even though they weren't great in terms of gameplay, had fantastic sound design.

Yeah link was a good addition to soul cal.Honestly the only thing I dislike about mk11 are the combat sounds. They are electronically generic. But I am ingested in the characters and story. For sure it feels like they are stepping away from their martial arts roots, just look at all those martial arts explanation videos in deception, but I'm not really too bothered it. Sometimes people just want to scrap without getting too technical and that's fine, and it's not like the game doesnt offer a good amount of fighting depth for those who want it anyway.

Re: Big-ass spoiler warning: Mortal Kombat 11 aftermath discussion

Link is definitely not a bad addition to SC II, since they were trying to represent characters from each company. Imo, anyway. Link also comes from a weapons based game series set in a fantacy world, so it makes sense. The Star Wars characters were still the weirdest guest decisions Namko has made. They were cool for awhile, but the novelty wore off pretty quickly.About gameplay in MK's recent games, maybe the new characters in MK X just didn't appeal to me much either. I played through the story mode and arcade mode with half the cast... but it just got boring. MK 9 was back to basics simple, and the game felt quite a bit more fluid to me. MK X and 11 both feel clunky and a little stiff... which considering we're supposed to be playing as martial artists which implies to me agility and fluid movement, is surprising. I also find the most recent games are moving away from MK's martial arts inspired roots and are starting to turn into comic / superhero type things.

There are tons of fighting game characters that would fit into MK from other fighting game IP's. Akuma would definitely fit, he's certainly not opposed to killing, and his raging demon combined with MK's amount of gore would be completely badass. And other than Samurai Shodown, the next obvious fighting games would be Killer Instinct and Tekken. Specifically, any of the Mishimas Not to mention the tons of other games there would be to choose from; Asassin's Creed and God of War just to name two. But I digress. But those who know me know that my view of MK has become Jaded since MK 9, so I should probably just be quiet. All power to the people who enjoy the current guest lineup, just not my personal cup of tea, is all.PS: Anyone notice the not so accidental Mortal Kombat pun?

O I'd settle on an allstar fighter from nrs for sure! They already have a good fighting engine.I did read somewhere that they contacted capcom about including street fighter characters in mk and they just werent interested. On that note, I still find it difficult to see akuma in mk at all, or even seth, gil or bison, maybe Vega, but only maybe. Honestly I cant really think of any characters outside of samurai shodown and maybe blazblue that are brutal enough to be included In mk, so from that perspective the current lineup of guest characters are fine, especially spawn and kratos.Speaking of guest characters, I have another set of videos to share if people liked the first set.

O I'd settle on an allstar fighter from nrs for sure!I did read somewhere that they contacted capcom about including street fighter characters in mk and they just werent interested. On that note, I still find it difficult to see akuma in mk at all, or even seth, gil or bison, maybe Vega, but only maybe. Honestly I cant really think of any characters outside of samurai shodown and maybe blazblue that are brutal enough to be included In mk, so from that perspective the current lineup of guest characters are fine.Speaking of guest characters, I have another set of videos to share if people liked the first set.

Re: Big-ass spoiler warning: Mortal Kombat 11 aftermath discussion

As someone who knows a fair amount on all the guest characters and has watched at least one movie featuring each, gotta agree with the people who would prefer MK characters, or at least other fighting game characters as guests. But granted, I may be biased since I haven't been a fan of gameplay in MK since MK 9. Neither 10 nor 11 really grabed me... the guest characters from popular media franchises are just ways to attract players who wouldn't normally play MK, and the cash grab is obvious. Characters from other fighting games like Killer Instinct, or even some of the evil and darker characters from Street Fighter or Tekken, while more hype for fighting game fans, wouldn't be nearly as profitable. Honestly, NRS would do much better with an all star with all the guest characters in their own exclusive fighting game. That I'd buy in a heartbeat! Characters in SoulCalibur VI like Haomaru make much more sense with the game's lore and universe. But kudos to anyone who is buying this... I'll just watch the story content online when it comes out.

no, definitely not.there are 3 endings, and what's that about two true endings...spoilers.1). defeat Kronika without losing a round. Liu kang kills kronika, and starts re-writing the story, with kitana at his side.2). win in the 3rd round. Liu kang kills kronika, and re¿writes the story, but this time, instead of Kitana, he chooses raiden to be at his side to do this. aparently, this is the true ending.3). lose the fight. Kronika Kills fire god Liu Kang, and the new era begins. even if you lose and have the possibility of redoing the fight, this is technically an ending, much like blazblue's bad endings in story mode.

Not really. The true ending is when you win the fight. there is another ending if you lose 1 round and then win and a ending when you lose the fight entirely. But if we want to get technical, there is only 2 true endings. 1 where you win the fight and not lose a round and 1 where you lose a round but win the fight. Losing the fight entirely, just plays a brief scene I think? then it asks you to retry.

Here's something special to wet your appetites while you wait. I know that some of you here are unfamiliar with a few of the guest characters in mk, and so are critical of their inclusion in the game. Thus, I have a special treat for you guys that should help familiarize you with some of them.Today I would like to put the spotlight on Spawn, whom my cousin introduced me to way back in the 90s. Of course, that is not his name, but i6 Is what he is. His true name is Al Simmons, and he was killed while on a case and was sent to hell where he made a deal with the demon Malbolgia that would allow him to return to earth. And so he has returned 5 years later, his wife Wanda Blake has married his friend Tarry, and they have a daughter named Syanne. This is a playlist for spawn, the animated series. That's all I have for now. It's a little off topic I know, but I hope to demonstrate why he is such a great fit in the game.As for my thoughts about the story dlc, we know now which of the 3 endings is cannon.

No word on whether of those characters yet. I would like to see rain for sure though. He was one of my fav characters in umk3 on snes because he had so many stupidly awesome juggles. Would also like to see Kenshi return.I went back to play with spawn today and man, so good! He even sounds like he does in the animated series, and is voiced by the developer himself. Also has a very nice ending, which cant be said for guest characters in most other fighting games. Netherrealm studios really go out of their way to ensure that their guest characters fit into the mk lore by giving them a complete story and ending.

in some places, yes. fire, or sometimes the sound of the floor changes.let's go to the forge from the courtyard, for example. you start going south... you will hear some guys screaming, and after passing them, you will walk a little in a metallic surface, it is very short, like a tiny staircase. continuing south, you will hear the sound of the forge. center it, press X, and you can start crafting items.note that i'm playing on pc, with a controller. OCR works great here, for crafting and sometimes to know what you're getting from the chests.

it is 3d, but you can move in all four directions, and use the cammera to change view...something important... this krypt has some checkpoints. for example. if you manage to go to the kourtyard, every time to re enter the krypt you will start there. knowing that, you can move south to reach the forge and mountain areas. you'll have to experiment e bit... but it is tedious, unlocking and finding the paths is very tedious. patience is the key here.

Re: Big-ass spoiler warning: Mortal Kombat 11 aftermath discussion

Yeah, I have to admit my hype level shot to over 9000 when I saw robocop, and with the same actor from the movie at that, no one had to tell me who it was. And yes, these guest characters fit perfectly. Spawn, violent movie and series. Terminator, ruthless killer. Joker, psychopath. Robocop, also violent as hell, especially the first two movies, and none, save for jokers were originally meant for kids. I never really felt like mk's guest characters felt out of place. The only real misstep that the series took was with mk be dcu, and that was because Werner bros didnt want their heroes to participate in a violent bloodbath, and that is what I fear would be the case if mk and street fighter ever crossed paths. So yes, these guest characters fit right in due to their violent nature, and I encourage you guys who are unfamiliar with them to go look them up and watch their stuff. As for mk characters that fans want, that has been coming as well. I'm really happy that they got the actor from the movie to voice Shang Sung. That is a huge bit of fan service right there, and I wish they had done that with the 9th game. A lot of people seem to like Fujin who first appeared in mk4, so I'm happy to be getting him. Same with sheava.  Who knows, neither realm studios says they gonna support this game for longer still so more characters are definitely coming. In fact, the new story extension focuses almost exclusively on the recent dlc characters, so that's cool that they're actually gonna get some story time apart from the arcade ladder. I thought the ending for mk11 was fine as it was, and if you look at it from that angle, this really is a neat bonus to have.So hyped!

I'm really happy that they got the actor from the movie to voice Shang Sung. That is a huge bit of fan service right there, and I wish they had done that with the 9th game. A lot of people seem to like Fujin who first appeared in mk4, so I'm happy to be getting him. In fact, the new story extension focuses almost on the dlc characters, so that's cool that they're actually gonna get some story time apart from the arcade ladder. I thought the ending for mk11 was fine as it was, and if you look at it from that angle, this really is a neat bonus to have.So hyped!

You know how is works. When WB taking over the game. Pretty much all the guest characters just to promote movies and the MK characters just there for nothing.

Re: Big-ass spoiler warning: Mortal Kombat 11 aftermath discussion

well I don't know what NRS is trying with the game right now, instead of including a bunch of characters that don't have anything to do with the MK universe they could listen to the fans and actually include characters they like. Soul caliburs guest characters were actually quite fun because they did fit into the game, in my opinion that's not the case with all the MK chars.Terminator? Robo cop? What the fuck is this, a friggen circus or what. Also I guess I won't buy the extension, 40 dollars for me isn't worth some what, 2 to 3 hours of extended story and some new chars I couldn't care to dumps about.Greetings Moritz.

I'm buying this for RoboCop alone. I don't care about anything else honestly.

Re: Big-ass spoiler warning: Mortal Kombat 11 aftermath discussion

Nah I dont think it's a waste of space if the characters fit into the style of the game. Terminator is perfect, and robocop is only natural to include so the two can square off. But if you start using dc characters for example who dont have a violent lore and nature, then they have to tone things down. It's TRUE that mk has a lot of characters that haven't been touched in a long time, but not all of them are favorites of the fans or the devs. I agree with you about the unlocking of characters thing though, but that's more the fault of the players than that of the developers. You see these days people just dont have the patience to grind the game to unlock new characters, and demand is there for all characters to be available for tournament play, so fighting game devs are just trying to meet player expectations.

I don't know about guest characters anymore. To me guest it's a waste of space. We have so many MK characters that deserve to be in it. But they all about the money. I remember back than we use to unlock characters when we beat the game. Anyway, whatever.

They got the actor from robocop to voice him! Man that is just too cool!I wonder If more items will be added to the crypt or if we can unlock them through the towers.By the way, friendships and stage fatalities will come for everyone, whether you buy the aftermath or not.

Re: Big-ass spoiler warning: Mortal Kombat 11 aftermath discussion

I'm looking forward to the story, and there are characters in 11 that I really enjoy.  However I can't see myself shelling out for anymore with this game, I prefer MKx gameplay wise by quite a bit to be honest.  It pains me to say that, because I really want to get this.  But will wait for a sail or something.  I'm very, very tempted.  but an extra 40 quid right now is a big ask.  The trailor looks awesome though, and I love Cary as Shang Tsun getting a propper role.
