@Kevin, Tinkerbell will indeed have a voice in this, though she is associated with the bell item, so theres an explanation for her silence in this tale which I wont spoil. Some elements in this are reminiscent of the movie Hook as well. Fairy dust is definitely going to be present in the game. This is sounding very awsome indeed, and I look forward to having a go at some of the lines sinse as I said I do have something of a thing for pirates. I thought I recognized the voice of Hook, now I know where it is from. The Bbc have recently been doing a series about the House of commons, which covers both the inside practices and rituals of parliament and some information about Westminster itself. One thing I found fascinating about Big Ben is that much of the works of the clock are actually glased, and that they literally have to send window cleaners god knows how many hundred feet up into the air to clean the clock from the outside. Also bare in mind that the tower of Big ben is situated just inside the entrance , meaning youd need to go through the gates, up the rather long drive and through the doors, actually if you did want some secret london locations The Houses of Parliament has plenty being an absolute warren of a place with all sorts of real life secret pa
ssages and stores, it would also be amusing if you could get some ceremonial items of use in the game, say by slipping into the Mps cloak room and pinching the ceremonial sword (which are actually hung on coat hangers). Btw, it will also be interesting to play a game with a location that I actually have visited in real life, or at least stood outside of myself.

Re: Steampunk Neverland - Zelda-esque RPG

@Gyro, If this is intended as a prequal, then obviously hook, smee etc need to be still around at the end, or maybe it finishes with their pirate steam airship crashing into the sea which explains why the pirates are on a sailing ship in Peter Pan, indeed they could be two utterly different ships, the sailing ship called The Jolly Roger (yes I know its the name of the pirate flag but its also the name of the ship in Peter Pan), couldve been built later and the steam ship could have a different name, say the plunderer, the black cog or the dragons breath. Also, sinse Peter Pan starts with peter losing his shadow when Wendy traps it in her window, perhaps Peters detatchable shadow could have some game play functions? For example allowing him to hide from enemies, (maybe something he learns from Tigerlillys people?). Another thought is that Tinkerbells name actually comes from her job as a tinker, and if I remember cor
rectly the original book implies other fairies had different jobs such as tailer or peddler, perhaps in game shop keepers could be fairies with similar names, eg you get new items of cloathing from tailer bell or can buy new stocks from pedler bell.I like the idea of the grapling Hook (ha ha ), as a move in the game to gather items or cross pits, rather like the hookshot in the Zelda series, however if Hook serves as a boss it could be a fun attack for him, grappling you to drag you in close so he can smack you about with his sword, indeed this could be a fun way of defeating hook, say getting him to try and grapple you but mooving out of the way so he reels in a keg of gun pouder instead .I definitely hope Smee at least makes an appearence, sinse I always liked the idea of Hooks boatswain, (who usually on a ship would be a huge, drill sergeant sort sins
e he had the job of keeping the working hands in line), being a bit of a weed and a wuss indeed rather camp as well, and of course Smees cutlass, jimmy Corcscrew need to be in the game as an item as well (one thing about Barry he did come up with some great names). As far as I can remember (and it has been a while sinse I read the book of Peter Pan though I did see a stage play rather more recently), the only other pirates named are gentleman Starkey, Bill Dukes and Skylight, though of course adding additional pirates isnt a bad thing. Another nice thing about Neverland as a setting is that you can pretty much have anything else in the game you like as far as generic enemies go. We already know from Barry that the Island had wolves, Lions, tigers, wild boars and of course crocodiles, but theres no reason not to include other creatures as well, a miniseries I once saw on Peter Pan even had giant spiders, though I would suggest keeping to a so
rt of tropical setting, eg, giant snakes or giant scorpians but maybe not fire breathing dragonns or trolls, though sinse Barry does mention goblins and witches, well who knows? And thats before we get into steampunk teretory sinse theres nothing you cant make with clockwork .

Re: Steampunk Neverland - Zelda-esque RPG

Thanks Orin! In this case, well be working with a professional ambience composer and sound technicians, so the quality will be quite a lot higher. Cool, I agree I love Zelda-esque gameplay style. Cool, thanks for the email!Dark, the shadow being a part of gameplay has been a plan of mine for sometime, so its cool that you mentioned that. Theres also more in this story to the reason he was actually crying when he couldnt catch his shadow when meeting Wendy, but I dont want to spoil that. Most of the technology in Neverland has been thanks to a professor fascinated by the land. He builds many contraptions. Additionally, there will be ancient ruins and puzzles in the environment. Smee is indeed a bumbling light voiced servant to Hook, you can hear him in this teaser:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5m2sG2aZRMThe air ship starts on the water in London, it is high tech steam powe
red and can take to the skies as an airship, it ends up being pulled into a vortex which leads to Neverland. There will be many characters you will be able to communicate.Oh, Hook will most definitely be a boss. So will the Croc, one of the other pirates, a Neverbeast, a grizzly bear, and some clockwork mechanized soldiers. The two other bosses I dont want to spoil, youll have to wait and see.Indeed theres a story oriented reason for Tinkerbell and her sounds. An item called the tinkerbell is indeed present in the story. I dont want to spoil that either though. There are several groups in Steampunk Neverland, each with memorable characters. Lost boys, fairies (families of fairies like elder fairies too), mermaids, pirates, natives, London inhabitants, and another race I wont mention.Another cool item is the pan flute. Similarly to ocarina of time, youll be able to play it. The only difference is that it
has more notes than ocarina and you can custom play your own songs then assign that song to a summon or special ability, this way you can effectively bring forth a power when ever you play that song in the future. Cool.Ooh, Hook using the grapple during the boss battle is a great idea, and I also like the idea of the ship crashing, perhaps needing to be repaired. Thanks!London will have playable areas as well. I love flying hehe.

Re: Steampunk Neverland - Zelda-esque RPG

@Aaron, steampunk is a style of world and technology which began in the 1970s as a counter to the cyberpunk movement. Where as cyberpunk was busy imagining futuristic dystopean worlds based on current technology such as computers and the internet, along with things like cyborgs, steampunk is based on the idea of what would happen if victorian steam powered technology and clockwork was taken to fantasy extremes. So, steam powered submarines, tanks, and jet skees etc, or clockwork automata, or even just smaller things for example in Neel Gaymans neverwhere (which has elements of steampunk as well as a few other technologies), there is a small advanced clockwork video recorder which spins prisms on a spindle very fast with a system of wind up gears to produce images and sound. Just as Cyberpunk themes are also (though not universally), tied to mega coorporations, huge urban cities, street gangs and mercenaries, Steampunk also often has a rather more victoria
n story telling style too, with say patriotic heroes working for their queen (or king), and country, explorers in unknown lands and of course all the social niceties of victorian ettiquette, hats for men and lace for women as one episode of the very good gear heart podcast audio series put it. Youll also notice that just as in Neverland, Steampunk mixes quite happily with traditional magic elements too, indeed The Gearheart is all about a school of magician/spies in a steampunk world and the plans of someone who wants to replace humans with clockwork versions and is stealing peoples lives to do so. As to where to start, well lots of things have steampunk elements and like all fantasy tropes its often uncertain where things begin and end. Avatar for example mixes the steam punk tech of the fire nation with martial arts and asian philosophy, while the old film the weerd west had a steampunk version of a Wild West setting (pl
us it has will smith being amusing). A very quick place would be the gamebook Nyes song on Ffproject, which apart from being a rather fun story about an English Army captain who rides around in a steam powered drednaught fighting evil demon summoning sorcereres, has a lot of the technology and style the genre regularly comes with. hth. @Gyro, There are some elements of the original book and neverland that never really get explained, or only skimmed in passing. For example goblins and mermaids are mentioned quite casually but never appear in the book, and then there are the Indians (theyre called red skins in the book and while I dont think Barry meant it as racist it does sound slightly that way now), who were never depicted as exactly friendly to the lost boys. Itd be interesting to contrast steampunk elements and technology with more primative traditions, eg perhaps the pirates come into conflict with the Indians b
ecause they are chopping down forest trees to fuel their steam engines which obviously the indians disagree with. maybe you could play as tigerlilly, but instead of being able to use usual steampunk weaponry shes helped by summoning totem animals, and instead of using pistols or grapples she has a bow and arrows. Oh, and there has just got! to be a clockwork crocodile. With Hooks fear of clocks and the way the crocodile follows him around accompanied by a constant ticking, the steampunk theme would make having a huge brass automated croc just such a perfect image to put together, I also think its nice in a game where the player will always be having to work to defeat the enemies to discover that however tough the last boss is there is something worse. Btw, when you talked of hook having a mechanized hook, my own first idea was that his hook would shoot out like a grapple to either let him climb and swing around, or reach out and claw people or pick up
objects at a distance.Ill look forward to getting the mail regarding the voice acting sinse I do have a bit of a thing for pirates, ga!

Re: Steampunk Neverland - Zelda-esque RPG

@Dark Steampunk and Civil War go nicely together. The 1700s essence in pirates flows nicely through the eras. Steampunk Neverland ranges with quite a story time-span. Pan doesnt age and was born much early than Wendy. Since this is an origin story, he doesnt actually meet Wendy until the very very end. Hook actually gets his hand cut off and fed to the crocodile in this one, which becomes replaced with the mechanical hook. I like that idea about the cutting down trees for resources. I love the idea about launching the hook for grappling.Excellent Dark. The crocodile clock connection is fantastic too, Ill see what I can do about the mechanized Croc. I will incorporate all three of these ideas. Thank you very much! Correct, direct link wont show your contribution on indiegogo page, but heres how you can still get rewards: Its actually cheaper using the direct link. Simply purchase using the direct link more than once and youll receive a new confirmation email confirming the new bonuses. Additionally, youll get a cool SN logo engraved necklace with gear cog piece on it! Engraved with the abbreviation SN, the S has a gear cog encompassing above it and the N has a compass star circling below it. The S is above the N, and the top right side of the N goes up through the base of the S to become the joint for the cog. Youll also get the embossed Neverland treasure map as well as full game reserved, game guide, audio book and soundtrack. All perks are delivered just prior to game release. Simply reply to your confirmation email with your shipping address. You do not need to provide an address for the first time purchase since the first bonuses are sent digitally. @Dark, I think I will allow tiger Lilly to give you a summon totem and bow and arrows as items. As for playable characters, I think that having Pan primary, then occasionally to help unlock something you cant reach, Tinkerbell can be played as. Then Hook as a bonus character to be unlocked later. It would be cool to have the grappling as a move for Hook once you unlock him, what do you think Dark?

Re: Steampunk Neverland - Zelda-esque RPG

Interestingly, Steampunk is actually an offshoot of Cyberpunk, rather than a direct controdiction, and it seems strange, but the term Cyberpunk was first used to describe what the teenagers of the mature internet age might be like, in the eyes of a short story writer, and was kind of an on the spot, half joke term, used during an interview, that later came to mean something else entirely, as a literary culture grew up around it, the one you see today in MUDS like Awakened Worlds and Cybersphere, for instance.Steampunk is actually the most successful branch, going based on popularity and social awareness, even more so than Cyberpunk its self, and in fact, the more clockwork oriented part of it has its own, not often used away from Steampunk circles term, Clockpunk. Also, while the Victorian era is the troditionally recognized setting for Steampunk literature, there has been a relatively recent influx of more advanced, more historically accurate,
American civil war era Steampunk and Clockpunk in that area.A good example is the five book miniseries, Clockwork Century, by Cherie Priest, written in 2009. It was also dramatized by Graphic Audio in 2014.While Cyberpunk is often post nuclear opocolops, corprit controlled, crime heavy, metropolis and badlands style with elements of technomancy, cybernetic enhancement, often for combat, AI, virtual reality, and augmented network and communications access provided through direct neural link, Steampunk often has some element of post opocolips as well, sometimes including some form of zombies, as well as magic elements as Dark mentioned, and real world conflicts used in a fictional way, air pirates, limb replacements, complex gadgets and weapons, dark plots, brilliant, both good and evil inventers, and utopian metropoliss are strongly featured.

Re: Steampunk Neverland - Zelda-esque RPG

@Defender, I said steampunk was a contradiction of cyberpunk because Neel Gayman reccords the term in his forward to his novella, A study in Emerald (a Cthulhu version of the Sherlock holmes story with some steampunk elements), as one that he along with several other writers came up with in the early 80s to distinguish what they were doing as different from the prevailing cyberpunk movement at the time, so, yes, an offshoot, but one with very much the goal of being different to a current cultural trend. Clockwork century sounds fun, although sinse my knolidge of the American Civil war is pretty limited Im not sure how much of the differences Id follow.

Thanks Orin! In this case, well be working with a professional ambience composer and sound technicians, so the quality will be quite nice and ambient. I agree I love Zelda-esque gameplay style. Thanks for the email!Dark, the shadow being a part of gameplay has been a plan of mine for sometime, so its cool that you mentioned that. Smee is indeed a bumbling light voiced servant to Hook, you can hear him in this teaser:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5m2sG2aZRMThe air ship starts on the water in London, it is high tech steam powered and
can take to the skies as an airship, it ends up being pulled into a vortex which leads to Neverland. The only difference is that it has mor
e notes than ocarina and you can custom play your own songs then assign that song to a summon or special ability, this way you can effectively bring forth a power when ever you play that song in the future.

Correct, direct link wont show your contribution on indiegogo page, but all direct purchasers including those whove already purchased, will receive newest rewards.Currently the rewards are full game, original soundtrack, game guide and audio book.Go here to reserve yours:https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?c … LAXPHYPMAS@Dark, I think I will allow tiger Lilly to give you a summon totem and bow and arrows as items. As for playable characters, I think that having Pan primary, then occasionally to help unlock something you cant reach, Tinkerbell can be played as. Are you still looking for testers? if so, I will send you a email to test the game and maybe will by it after betta testing it to see how stable it will be.ThanksKevin Roberts

Re: Steampunk Neverland - Zelda-esque RPG

@Defender, thanks for the most epic list of Steampunk mechanisms ever! That post was thoroughly awesome.Yes, a lot of those things will be present in Steampunk Neverland such as basins underwater like submarines that crawl and operate by gears and steam which collect crystals and attack. Steam air ship has many of those features as well with brass pipes and tech cannons. Some clockwork animals and soldiers will be present as well in the game, with built-in firearms and hook has three options too his mechanical hook, first it extracts from his wrist straight and sharp like a dagger, then on joints bends and locks into a hook position for his hook, and it can also transform into a pirate pistol. Hehehe. Some of those things you mentioned gave great ideas! Such as the crossbows and creative dungeon traps, not to mention the arsenal of cool gadgets in the air and so on. Thank you for these contributions, Ill be sure to place you in the special thanks along with the member
who came up with unlocking Hook as a playable character later in the game. The mechanical boomerang sounds great, Im going to make that an item. Sweet.Additionally, players will be able to bookmark their maps in case they find something they want to return to later, and Peter Pan will have a couple of swords he can choose from, and individually upgrade. @Dark, sounds great! We can do that. Ill send you some lines soon and Ill post a link to that demo today.

Re: Steampunk Neverland - Zelda-esque RPG

Thanks Dark! I would love for you to play a role in the game! Ill write you an email about this Thank you for your support and offering your great talent! All of our games updates will be available directly from a reliable website source and no longer need to be sent via email. This is my personal guarantee and Im working on that now. Steampunk Neverland will utilize an audio system which will execute only the compressed audio and script when needed. So as long as your computer can play music and read text files, youll run it nicely. Super Airik so far can turn off the graphics but unlike Steampunk Neverland it still requires directX9 and uncompressed audio, making it a bit harder to run than Steampunk Neverland. I plan to update this about Airik and make the update available shortly from a url so that you can download it without
waiting for an email. Ive also decided to work directly with some of the gamers who have volunteered from this community to ensure the game is as convenient and solid as is possible. Ill be releasing a demo following these sessions and you can see how the game feels. Also, feel free to volunteer for testing by emailing breakerboxga...@gmail.com and well send you the first test right as its ready. If you have ideas for cool steampunk items, puzzles or gadgets, leave a comment with your idea! We may feature it in the game as an item and feature your name in the special thanks!Dark you playing a pirate sounds awesome, Im curious so please send me a sample at breakerboxga...@gmail.com hehehe

By Zelda like, are you referring to the dungeon aspect, or are you referring to the POV, in which case Ill want to know if you mean its going to be third person like how ocarina was, or top down like how Zelda 1 was. It all sounds really neat, but Im kind of worried, doesnt something like this need to be licensed from Disney since they hold the rights to the peter pan franchise? Also, Ive read above that a few people have pre-ordered, but I dont see it showing up on the page in which it shows your funding goal.

So, here is sort of an improv pirate version of the pirate Kings song Its usually a baritone aria and a little low in my voice so I had to fudge bits of it but it should give an idea, actually I was rather pleased especially with how my rowland picked up the voice and accompanyment so I thought Id post it for everyones amusement value. Hi.Thanks for the reply Gyro. I have now preordered the game using the Paypal link in the first post. Looking damn much forward to this, and I hope the best... When checking the Indiegogo page, it shows that nothing has donated yet. Does it not sync with the paypal link? Seems a bit weird. Now that I have pre-ordered, then I assume the game also will run on a virtual machine and not randomly make weird crashes. The coolest thing ever would be if this game will be made for ps3 and XBox. Then, blind and sighted people could play together. Im especially excited about this because sighted gamers want quality games. So this game will either be really good quality with accessibility features, or otherwise, well, well see.Guys check out the trailer which I found on Youtube. This get me really excited:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfFSQcIn_i0

Great Piratey works Dark! Wild and hilarious. I love it! Re: Steampunk Neverland - Zelda-esque RPG

Glad you liked my rather crazy bit of instant pirate improv, about the only time Ive engaged in game piracy on this forum . Steampunk neverland sounds like a nice combination, I recently saw a miniseries called neverland which had Peter Pan mixed up with time travel and alchemy and was cool, so its certainly a story that lends itself to variations, fairies with clockwork wings? Or how about the Lost boys base entrance being a set of narrow steam pipes to slide down instead of treees, or maybe the Wendy house has mecha legs like the one in the Howls moving castle anime, - lots of directions to go, and especially a great way to preserve the fun bits of the original story, eg the pirates and adventure and the awsomness of the dashing Captain Hook and the Slimy Smee, while getting rid of some of the overdone cuteness and excess se
xism (boardering on mysticism), surrounding girls and mothers.I also hope the update to Airic fixes the problem sinse I am rather disappointed Ive not got to try the game yet, not that I begrudge voice acting and would be happy to come back for a sequel. Btw, If your designing a new website could you please fix the links to the sale of Kirtwolf. For one thing I wanted to play the demo sinse I was considering buying the game myself, but more than that its always a shame when audiogames are unavailable, particularly adventure style ones with a unique sets of sfx and characters like Kirtwolf, even if you have bigger and better plans in the future.

Re: Steampunk Neverland - Zelda-esque RPG

MMM Ive really been getting into steampunk lately so this is really exciting.Ideas for steampunk gadgets, well, gatling guns on airships, on top in a swiveling turret, or mounted under each wing, steampunk submarines that use under water charges, crawling or wheeled vehicles that work on steam somewhat like cars but more like a carage, giant metal mechanized warriors armed with cannons on the arms that can be piloted by people inside and run on steam.Spring loaded steleto knives for assassination, crossbows with magazines and automatic loaders that use clockwork, bolistas that work much the same, armor that strengthens the user with a layer of clockwork for added speed, lifting power, etc, possibly with built in weapons, a seperit breathing supply provided bytanks of air, and with steam or compressed air spirting out of the joints when they move.Rifles with scopes that use complex gears, wires, and sscreens of glass inside to essentiall
y become sniper rifles, electric weapons like whips of braded electrifyed wire using a battery pack and handle, tasers or stunnguns, and rods that fire electricity bolts.Flame throwers, rocket tubes, timed grenades, mechanical animals like birds that can be used as scouts or weapons with long wires connecting them to a central control box or remote, faceless mechanical soldiers, pistols, cannons, and rifles with mechanized spinning autoloaders, early machineguns, fighter airships with guns and polarized glass viewers or radar like instruments that work with gears and such, bomber airships, gas weapons, suppressors and recoil compensators that vent compressed air and or steam, miniature crossbows with poisoned bolts, fleshettes, swords with guns in the handles, multibareled firearms, mechanical boomarangs, gear driven grappling hooks with small pricussive charges to launch them, enormous crawling monstrositys with large platform like decks, giant spiked wheels, thickly p
lated iron armor, and massive cannons with automatic reloaders that use pullys and gears.Pressure plates, timed spike traps, weighted traps with blades or buckets of acid or boiling oil or sap, trip wires for bombs or metal darts shooting out of walls, jets of steam or flame from above, pit traps with swinging doors, wrist warable launchers for throwing small knives, large sonic blasters with brass horns and tubes.Entire rooms with complex systems below them and in the walls that aline with other coridors when a puzzle is figured out, maybe a book lifted, a statue touched, a button pressed, a lever pulled, a switch thrown, etc, metal rings with symbols on them twisted in order to line up to open something, locks with poisoned pins that spring out, giant wind up golems, knights with swords on electric puppet wires, or steam powered dragons that breath fire to guard things, dead people reanimated with clockwork to fight again that have sharp metal teeth and c
laws, a mechanical chess board to open something, mechanical walls that slowly move inward to crush you unless a puzzle is solved, millions of mechanical insects in a metal web or dark pit to eat you, or vishus mechanical fish in a lake of oil and a platform that lowers into them slowly.Electric lights, primative scuba gear with large bubble helmits, mechanical tractors, milking machines, harvesters, and plows, gear driven sliding and swinging doors, giant steam powered spinning saws, mechanical riding lawn mowers, shifting murals and moving statues with clockwork in the wall behind them or in the base of the statue, primative elevators, money counters with nimble mecanical finger like parts, bicycles, mechanical strobe lights, sailing vescles with automatically moving ropes, lowering and raising sails and flags, etc, paddle steamers, complex mechanical plumming, heating, and cooling, mobility aids for those with disabilitys, like moving stairs, wheelchairs, special cor
rective glasss, etc.I could go on and on.

Hi Jyro, compliments for your work! Im happy for this new project, for edge sound and for skout without moving. I would ask how works the maps inside the level that you told. Is a map that you can view pressing a key, and you can see the nearby objects? If I understand correctly is similar to field viewer in Shadow Line, in which pressing f you can see a map of current area, and you can see walls, pits, object, ecc pausing the real game. It is the same? Thanks and continue on this way!

I agree, thanks!Sure thing, heres a bit more on audio:For the system theres a special edge indicator that plays specific sound when close to edges, furthermore there is a way to scout without moving at all. Players will be able to fly all aroundthe world once the flying ability is unlocked and landmarks can be scouted from up in the air. Players can land anytime and continue their traveling. nearby objects can be located on thelevel area maps. Cool.

Hopefully this game will avoid the most tragic exploration from previous games from You.WHat I mean, is scout / scanning system which is much more annoying than fun when playing. This is why I dropped Airik the cleric.Nothing more bad than making one step, clicking a button to scan, next step, scan, next step, scan. God, I can say a game like that is really long game. Why? ofcourse not because theres a lot of content or the game is long itself, You are scanning and scanning mostly wasting the time or falling a sleep.Theres many more examples of great exploration systems than this one.Ill stay where I am now and ill follow the progress.PS.Dont get me wrong.
