Sometimes those old chinese dresses are outdated beyond repair, but then again, sometimes theyre not. If you have an (aunt, mom, cousin, sister) who got married in a strapless sheath that would be perfect, theres no reason you couldnt too, assuming theyre open to loaning it out. You can still make the look your own with the veil, jewelry, shoes, a pretty sash. And youll have that #8220;something borrowed#8221; checked off the list. What about the modern cheongsam? With more exchange with the outside world, todays 'cheongsam' (http://www.prettyladygirl.com/) combines both Chinese and western characteristics, traditional and modern features. There are bold changes and innovations. Whatever it is, cheongsam on one hand can still create an impression of simple and quite charm, elegance and neatness. On the other hand, blended with modern features, they can also show peoples individuality and distinctiveness. No wonder cheongsam enjoys a growing popularity in the international world of high fashion. It is a conventional belief that 'silk clothes' (http://www.prettyladygirl.com/) should invariably be present in the wardrobe of everyone who claims to be a connoisseur, when it comes to clothes. The fascination of silk fabric dates back to the ancient times. Silk production was already present at the earliest stages of development of human civilization, and silk trade was a very important part of the economy in ancient China. It was the place where the first silkworm breeding and silk manufacturing traditions were established. For example, in my house, the incoming cable goes to a connection block, which has a heavy wire from the cable ground to the same ground line as the fuse panel uses. That will kill any loop to the box down the street. Dave All utility service (power, phone, cable) should use the SAME ground rod, but for a different reason, lightning protection. While it is possible this might hum in audio equipment, the more likely cause leakage from the AC power injected into the cable to power the line amplifiers. The subscriber taps remove most of the 60 Hz AC, but as was pointed out by the previous posters, an RF isolation transformer will fix the problem. -- Timothy Stockman Timothy Stockman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8867 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40112 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Ground Loop and Transporter
I had the same issue solved it the same way, i.e., with an RF isolator in the TV signal cable. Solved, insofar as the audible hum was eliminated. However, I am left with a suspicion that all is not totally fixed. I have a Denon 3805 AVR used as a 'pre-amp/mixer' feeding a Rotal RMB 1095 5 channel amplifier. Speakers are BW 804 805s. My remaining problem is that when playing loudly, the Rotel cuts out due presumeably to overheating. My living space is not that huge so I have this nagging suspicion that there remains some non-audible component that is overheating the amp at high volume levels. I have a sub-woofer that goes down to 20Hz, hear nothing from that, so if there is any remaining ground loop component, I suspect its in the higher non audible range. (the amp has a -3db freq response up to 100kHz way beyond my hearing levels) I'd be interested to know if anyone else has this problem, or any suggestions. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] FLAC on a Mac with iTunes - CAN DO!
kphinney, Thanks a lot for the topic and explanation of getting everything to work. I too use flac, and would be interested to try this. I do have a question.. once iTunes picks up the flac files can you use iTunes to add album art to the flac files? My current flac library (also around 500 GB) does have all the album art, but most of it is Amazon quality (240 x 240) and it would be nice to add iTunes hi-rez album art. My other question, would Slim recognize this work around if I decided to let iTunes manage the music within Slim? [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Missing link? A little help please.
Hi, I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out what the weak spot is in my system. Right now I'm ripping my CDs in FLAC through EAC. I'm using CDex to rip the CDs into MP3s at 320 as well. From what I hear, I can't honestly find the difference between the two even though FLAC is supposed to be significantly better. Secondly, my Squeezebox 3 is hooked via coax to a Micromega DAC 1. Sound of the FLAC rips are pretty good but not nearly as good as my Micromega Drive 1 through the same DAC. The CD transport is connected through AES/EBU using a Nordost cable. The SB3 is using a relatively cheap Monster cable from the SB3 although I'm not sure if that would make such a big difference. In looking at audio equipment there are tons of choices, not just for quality but for the type of sound. Is it possible that while the ripped CDs could technically be better, it just can't capture the character of the CD transport/DAC combo? -- silverarrows silverarrows's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14641 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47988 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Missing link? A little help please.
The FLAC file played through the SB3 SHOULD sound the same as the CD transport. And I think anyone would find it difficult to tell the difference between the FLAC and a 320kb/sec MP3 - they should sound close to the same. The only problem seems to be why does the CD transport sound significantly better than the FLAC file played through the SB3, when they are both using the same DAC? Are you using fixed level output or using the volume control on the SB3 for the digital coaxial output? I use the coax output also and I use the volume control set to 91. To me, the FLAC through the SB3 and from my CD transport (a Sony NS500V) sound the same. -- kh6idf kh6idf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16848 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47988 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Missing link? A little help please.
I had very similar experiences. First, my hearing isn't as good as it used to be, but I cannot tell any difference between Flac files and compressed files greater than say 180 Kbps. Secondly, I compared the SB3 with a Mark Levinson DAC to a low end DVD player with the Mark Levinson DAC. To my surprise I found that the DVD player/DAC combination sounded better. I cannot think of any technical reason why it should be any different. The SPDIF data out of the SB3 and the SPDIF data from the DVD player should be identical. Since the ML DAC reclocks the digital input, there shouldn't be any timing/jitter issue. I also read another post where someone else had the same experience. I'm baffled by this. -- duke43j duke43j's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15911 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47988 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

With the DAC I've tried other CD transports which did have more detail compared to the current one I'm using but not quite the same type of sound. If FLAC and 320 kb/sec MP3 sound pretty much the same, well that changes everything for me. I just got a new network drive (not used as a NAS) with one drive mirroring the other. Looks like I'll have more space than I thought. -- silverarrows silverarrows's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14641 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47988 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
