Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] How low is low?
DRC Meridian style is doing things only below 300Hz and also take good care of the time domain. Rome nodes often resonate longer then the typical decay time of your room, so the DRC is not only compensate the level but the decay. When I did my setup I made several filters I can switch on or of with different target decay times one with the " right time" and some even tighter to use with very boomy recordings . And I can turn it off on the fly or listen to the different filters . And I also get nice waterfall plots :) -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. It's certainly beyond my expertise to try to argue that multiple subs without drc are better than one with (although I would bet that Geddes would make this argument). Of course, nothing is stopping anyone from treating their room, using multisubs AND doing drc all at once (except, time, motivation, money, and space ;) ). My experience with drc is that it isn't actually all that easy to do well, and takes a fair amount of commitment to get right. I would bet that getting 3 cheapish subs is easier for most people (I'm only using 2 now, but will add another sub or two at some point). -- totoro sb3 -> mccormack dna .5 -> audio physic tempo 4 + rel storm 3 totoro's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5935 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93382 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Yes you can change processes on the fly but this often leads to different results (from nothing to major audio artefacts like clicking) which don't occur with the same settings after a reboot (and process priorities set in boot order). A few processes re-prioritisations also sound immediately different as the buffer depletes, then the server/client renegotiate a connection up to a minute later and end up sounding very different to when they are first applied and the buffer is depleting. The few processes that do have an effect without reboot (almost never immediately - they seem to fade in) can be tested now (blind ABd even) with terminal macros. Is it not > possible with Audiolense? You are right it is not possible to use Touch to play the Audiolense signals! There is a touch plug-in called Waveout which permits that but it doesnt work if Inguz is installed, they are incompatible! Im using a Maudio external Firewire card. I send spdif signal to the dac and record it with the Maudio card. Yes Touch is not in the measured chain but it still gives very good results with Audiolense. What is important is that the speakers are equidistant from the mike (Audiolense gives you the delay between channels and this delay has to be very small, something like 0.02ms) Ideally to get the best results from DRC the room has to be acoustically treated and speaker at least roughly time aligned (if actively crossed). The results are spectacular! DRC corrects amplitude, phase and time alignment although only for the measured position. Chris PS duplex card is not a must but the signal must be generated by the analysing software (Audiolense) in order to build the impulse response. Theoretically Audiolense can accept imported files but I didn't succeed to make it work, i.e. to record trough Touch with Audacity for example. -- krzys krzys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2256 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93393 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Hey folks, please help me with getting Inguz/DRC/ setup on my SBT!!
I successfully applied my first room correction file with Audiolense/Inguz. All the room modes are gone. Bass sounds tight as never before and strings sound silky. All this without changing the overall character of the soundstage. I bought a Behringer ECM8000 with a calibration file together with a microphone stand and XLR cable. A Tascam US-122MKII works as phantom pre amp. My target curve is the B&K house curve. A very very big thank you to Phil Leigh! The idea isn't to produce more bass, per se, but to distribute the sources so that they each excite different room modes. If done properly, this has been shown to result in enough cancellation that some/most of the room modes are smoothed out substantially. My understanding of this is that this is in fact always the case, but that you need either 3 well placed subs, or 4 or more placed pretty much anywhere. The music it spits out without sinc filter is indeed horrible to measure and for sure will benefit of higher sampling frequencies most. Thanks for your very interesting post. So we can conclude from there: 1) there is a benefit of using 48khz instead of 44,1khz because of the reconstruction filter 2) fanatics of NOS DAC will benefit from hires even up to 384khz because the higher the fs, the flatter the sin x/x lowpass in audible frequency band... [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Audio GD DAC - Connection
Hi I am now the happy owner of a Squeezebox Touch and invested in an Audio GD 3.1 DAC to hopefully get my hifi sounding pretty sweet. Unfortunately no instructions come with the Audio GD DAC and I am wondering what the best connection for sound quality would be from the Touch to the DAC. There is the option of a toslink optical connection, rca conection or coaxial digital connection (SPDIF I think ??). Does anyone have any recomendations on the best audio connection and cable type for this setup ? The DAC came with an optical cable which I have read is a bit average in quality. I have also read a few brief comments stating that optical connections are not the best option for audio. Any advice ? In regard to the connection from the Touch to my NAD analogue amp - is there much difference in sound between rca cables ? What is a resonable set worth ?
