[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter status
I have owned a TP for over 4 years and love it. A couple of years a go, I heard (probably in this forun) that the TP was being discontinued. But, then, Logitech released a new TP-same except for knob. And, they are still selling them albeit at a discount. So, are they really discontinuing it? Are they still producing the version w/o the knob? If they discontinue, will they still issue new firm ware so the TP will work with new software releases? Any updates would be appreciated. Thanks. -- Shredder Shredder's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11380 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94031 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter as preamp
I ran my TP straight to power w/no pre for 2 years. Because I used balanced outputs, I needed to use an attenuator (Endler stepped was excellent) to control the gain. Worked very well, although I eventually added a really nice pre and it sounded even better. Anyway, yes, it is easy to switch to the digital inputs. Scroll through the menu to digital inputs, hit select, scroll through menu to pick desired input (whichever input to which you have connected your cd player), and hit select. That's it. Easy as pie. TP is highly recommended. High WAF for me as it allowed me to get rid of our thousands of cd cases. -- Shredder Shredder's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11380 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76483 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] output inpedance of the TP
Wireless, not sure you need all that power for the Aerials. FWIW, I have Aerial Model 9s-pretty similar to the 7bs except with more bass. When I first got them, I powered them with a 150 watt Classe intergrated. Sounded teriffic. However, I had been told by numerous sources that the 9s would only really sing with more power. I then purchased 2 350 Classe monos off of Audiogon. Not a great purchase. The bass may be a little punchier, but all in all not a significant improvement. I have heard the Aerials w/Mac gear and that is definitely a good match. Perhaps relevant to your original question, I run my TP directly into my power. Without attenuators, my amps had way way too much gain. Added Endler stepped attenuators and am now happy as a clam. However, w/the modded MW TP, anything other than terribly recorded music sounds absolutely live. Vocals and many instruments have a presence and weight that suggest a musician(s) in my room. Needs to be heard to be judged. I disagree that a tube buffer or pre will provede the same sound. I spent months auditioning gear. Many DACs-Benchmark, Lavry, Musical Fidelity, Bel Canto, unmodded TP. Pres-MW9.0, Mac, Classe. All excellent. I chose the MW TP direct into my amps over the other options, ie nice Dac into nice pre, TP into nice pre, great Dac w/no pre. You may disagree with my taste, but I didn't just just make this up or go on an on-line review. I did not just like it because it was expensive, because everything I auditioned was expensive and this was what I chose. I have read many discussions on this forum in which modified Sbs or TPs were criticized. All, All, of the criticism, as far as I could tell came from people who head never heard the gear. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter digital connections
I did the same thing as you. I then learned that you cannot play DVD audio (DTS) without a DTS/AV encoder. Only AV receivers or TVs have them. Thus, you need to run interconnects from the analog outputs on the dvd player into the analog inputs on your tv. Then, run an optical cable from the tv to the optical input on the TP. Should work perfectly, did for me. If your dvd player is a universal player, your cureent setup should play cd audio. -- Shredder Shredder's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11380 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42907 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Cool. If I understand correctly, if I select PCM (LPCM) on my dvd player, I can play the dvd audio directly from the digital outs on the dvd player to the digital ins on the TP? [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] firmware update for TP
Hey. My TP makes an ugly, loud, and potentially destructive pop when I try to use the digital inputs. As I learned in a related post, that problem was solved w/firmware ver. 33. Unfortunately, I am only running 31. I was told that I need to run SS/SC 7.0 to update the firmware. However, I am currently running 6.5.4 and 7.0 will not work on my Thecus NAS until 7.0 is formally released and someone is kind enough to build a module that allows me to install it on the NAS. Anyway, is there another way to update the firmware prior to installing 7.0? [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] pop when switching to/from Digital inputs w/TP direct into amp
I am running my TP directly into my power amps w/no pre. When I select a digital input (rca for cd, optical for dvd), the only way I can consistently get it to work is to push play. However, when I do, I get a horrible pop. Same problem when I go from input to play music from SS (although I can power off to avoid that). Very annoying and I fear for my speakers. On a couple of occasions, I have been able to successfully select an input by pushing right on the remote or pushing the knob on the TP. It does not pop when I do that, but I cannot consistently select the input that way.The manual says that I must exit both SS and SN to select w/right push/knob method. However, I seem to always be in one or the other. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I know many run the TP directly into their amps. Any help will be much appreciated. -- Shredder Shredder's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11380 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42856 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Attenuators-recommendations
Morning. Just got my TP up and running. I am quite pleased. One issue: I am running the TP straight into my amps w/no pre and balanced ics. The volume is way too loud at the lowest levels. In essence, I have no low volume setting. I assume I need attenuators (TP ones won't work because I am using balanced ics). I want to use ones that do not impact the audio quality one way or another (I am happy with the current sound). Which ones do people recommend? I have seen the Rothwell name but know nothing about them. I was wondering if Rothwell is the way to go or whether there is a better option? ALso, is there any way to deal with this issue w/o external attenuators. Thanks in advance. -- Shredder Shredder's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11380 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42698 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] no sound from Transporter
UGH. Got my new TP yesterday. Removed my cdp, which had been working fine, and hooked the TP up to my mono power amps' unbalanced inputs (no pre-amp used) w/RCA ics into the TPs unbalanced analog outputs(will switch to balanced soon). Setup went smoothly. I have a Squeezebox already and know my way around SD players, SS, and my network. SB3 and network work perfectly, as does/did my stereo. The TP streams/plays properly. I select music and the VU meters move, remaining time changes, and songs change. However, no sound comes out of the speakers. I have tried everything I could think of to get the thing to play music. I checked the connections on my ics both to the amps and the TP, I turned everything on and off, I checked the TP settings in SS, I called a techie friend who owns a TP, I adjusted the volume, etc. I even plugged a pre-amp back into the system to see if that was the issue. Still, no sound. The box appears to be functional, so I am assuming I just have a setting wrong somewhere. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions about resolving this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks much. -- Shredder Shredder's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11380 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42659 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Heresy
Mark. You may have hit on the answer to my question. In reading about NAS devices, I thought I had been told that I could run ethernet cable directly from the NAS to a router and then from the router either wirelessly or with ethernet to the Transporter/SB3. Wouldn't it be the same for any DAC? Slim Server comes installed on several NAS devices, including NetGear ReadyNAS NV+. The power supply issue is interesting, but I thought I had read that many good DACs (Benchmark comes to mind) have a built in solution for the jitter issues caused by a poor power supply. Those are my thoughts. I am very knowlegeable about music, fairly knowledgeable about audio, but very ignorant of computer related issues. I may be way off base here; that's why I am asking.
