Wow, it makes all the difference in the world. I was looking for Regina daughter of Francisco Camillo and Maria Da Gloria. The mother of Francisco being Maria Espirito Santo and the parents of Maria da Gloria be Maneul Machado and Isabel Josefa. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Help reading a name
Doug, In re-reading the document again, I think I have to disagree. The name of the child is Regina. I found a birth record for another child and it makes Regina's make sense now. Francisco José Dutra Camillo, fisherman, born in the parish of Matriz de São Matheus of Villa da Praia, Graciosa Island, and of Maria da Gloria, domestic labor, born in this Parish of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, where they were married and are parishioners, living in Rua do Castellinho. Granddaughter, on the father’s side, of unknown grandfather, and Maria do Espírito Santo; and on the mother’s side of Manoel Machado, deceased, and Isabel Josefa. Now I just need to understand where the Jose Dutra is coming from. It is only in these 2 birth records that this name is used. He was born on 4 Nov 1865 in Sao Matheus, Praia, Graciosa and baptized on 5 Nov 1865. His mother is listed as Maria do Espirito Santo, and she is a native of Santa Barbara (Ribeiras), Pico. The father is listed as unknown. Maternal grandparents are listed as Jose Pereira and Maria do Espirito Santo. They are natives of Santa Barbara (Ribeiras), Pico. I am attaching the baptismal record I made a copy of at the Family History Center. You can find more info going back on the maternal grandparents Jose Pereira and Maria do Espirito Santo on the University of Minho website in the Lajes do Pico, Ribeiras section. http://www.ghp.ics.uminho.pt/geneweb/gwd.exe?b=Ribeiras;lang=en;p=jose;n=pereira;oc=2 On the website link, the mother of Francisco Jose Dutra is presumably the youngest child of Jose Pereira and Maria do Espirito Santo, born 25 Jan 1820. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: A Family Bible Story
E, Check search on the Internet for a book binder, book repair, book restorer type of businesses in your area. Also stop by a Used Book Store, Antique shop for recommendation to have the bible repaired. Recommend: Scan all the *birth, marriage *and *death* entries front page where it shows date and published the bible. I do this to all the old books and print the scanned pages for daily use for genealogy. Less wear and tear of the bible and it will last a long time. Also keep the bible is a cool, dry, not direct sun light area to keep it safe for your Great-Grandchild. Do not keep in the attic where the pages will dry out and fall out. Do not keep it in the basement where dampness will hurt the pages of the ancestors. Keep it proudly on a shelf in a nice room where generations can look at it and learn about the family. Glad you have the Bible, be sure to make copies for family members as Christmas gifts, might be a fun too do. Thank you, Tomas, for this excellent and complete answer, so much good information, and to Kalani also for reminding me that though the Azoreans may understand me, will I be able to understand them when they respond? Hi Joanne,I meant to tell you the last time I saw your message about the spelling of one of your surnames. It is common because of pronunciation for this mistake, but the correct and only spelling in Portugal is HOMEM.It means "man" and for this reason, some of my great aunts didn't want to use it, while their brothers kept it.Of course, keeping the wrong spelling for those who emigrated is the right thing to do. But when you list your ancestors who stayed in Portugal, it should always be Homem. At least, that's what I do.Doug da Rocha HolmesSacramento, CaliforniaPico Terceira Genealogist916-550-1618www.dholmes.com Original Message Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Help with Madeira genealogy From: Joanne Mercier musicmavene...@gmail.com Date: Sat, April 20, 2013 2:20 pm To: azores@googlegroups.com Folks, someone I met doing genealogy is looking to begin a search of her Madeira roots.
