Can someone help me read this marriage certificate?

Groom Antonio de Pimentel
Bride:  I have no idea what her name is?  It is not one I have seen 
before?  last name de Medeiros

Paternal: Jose de A??? and Jacinta da Rosa?  I can even tell.

Maternal:  Antonio de Medeiros deceased and Jacinta de F  

Any information from this would be appreicated!  I have improved in 
reading, but then I come across harder ones and there are many names on her 
that I think are referencing the priests.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Help reading marriage record for Domingos Goncalves (Duarte) and Ines Goncalves from Quatro Ribeiras

This record is so hard for me. Please help me read the names of the bride’s 
parents. I see Ines Goncalves, daughter of Salvador Lucas de Guiar ??

It is a the bottom of the page. 

FYI I have Domingos’ brother(Manuel Jorge) marrying Maria Machado who’s parents 
are Salvador Lucas (AKA Salvador Lucas de Aquiar) and Ana Goncalves. I’m 
thinking brother may have married sisters. What do you think?

Sorry Sandra. I see a new time the mariage record and i Think that the
father of Antonio Gonçalves is other Antonio Gonçalves Caldeira and no João.

About the obit of Antonio Gonçalves Caldeira in 1697, there is another
Antonio Gonçalves Caldeira married in 1653 in Biscoitos. The died is
widower and 70 years old. It's useful to find the batism of Antonio around
1627 (+/-5 years) and, particulary the obit of his wife : Beatriz Gonçalves
(m. 1654) or Catarina Gonçalves (m. 1653).

On the 6th day of November 1697 __ died Antonio Goncalves Caldeira widowed
parishioner of this parish of Apostolic Sao Pedro located das Biscoitos his
age 70 years more or less ___ this evening __ Novena ___  and 20 Masses?

Sorrry. I don't know the english version of tecnics words like "missa
rezada", "oficio perfeito".
"In perpetuum" is like " até fim do mundo" : until the end of the world.
"avinculada" : like a "vinculo" which is a legal form of donation to pay
the price of the low mass (missa rezada, i find it) and others "legados".
"terça" : is the part of his inheritance that the person who make a wil can
decide as he want. The other part is divided beetween the children in equal
part, or beetween the wife (or husband) who live (50%) and the children
(50%).
"esmola" is the life annuity provided, in this case, by the houses where
was living (cazas em que morava). Then, the brotherhoods (confrarias)
received the houses in inheritance to pay the low mass (each year in
perpettum), 20 low masses and one "oficio" only once.

It says:  "elle viuvo do Maria Francisca"  - He (meaning the groom) is the
widower of Maria Francisca who died in this village.

Nina,

The priest wrote the word "parish" or "church" twice. (I have a hard time
going back and forth with embedded attachments. Many on the list cannot
read a Word Doc. You need to save in PDF for all to read).

The word is not "obitos." It's something else. You've got the gist of the
highlighted passage. They are not related and no dispensation was needed.

Your 3 ??? : The groom was an "exposto" given (dado) to Martinha Rosa. So
basically he was a baby that was given up with no parents (foundling).

Witness: Antonio Cymbron Borges de Souza, married (cazado/casado).

You translated the rest right. I don't translate the bottom. There's no
genealogy in it. You've got the gist of it.

Thank you, I have looked every were in 1842 to 1855 and double checked it in 
the late 1840’s since the last child was born in 1845 until my 4 X great grand 
father was born in 1850 and I still cannot find him. So here is my question 
again, does it show him a native of Santa Cruz Graciosa or some place else.  I 
take it as a native of Santa Cruz Graciosa, am I right or wrong, and if I am 
wrong can you tell me what it is ?

For the question of the last name, on some of the children the priest would 
either put Correa dos Reis or he would put dos Reis Correa for the father last 
surname.  On Francisco brothers, it is listed as his first name and then dos 
Reis, but they have it list for the father of Francisco and the grandparents of 
the children listed as Joao dos Reis Correa, not sure of why the change of the 
name so much.

So start at the beginning of 1847:

I do not know how many times I looked and looked at those pages, I even stopped 
at every Jose between 1842 to 1850 and enlarges the documents and read through 
them to make sure I did not miss anything.  This must have been one of those 
late night or early morning ones where I saw it and you are write the name 
looks to be Luiz and keep on going.

Left record for Jose dos Reis (put that spelling in your program) and
Marianna Rosa

Yes, January 1874 on the 18th.

Groom: 26 years old, native, residing, and baptized in this freguesia (so
Santa Cruz on Graciosa), son of Francisco dos Reis and Rosa Joaquina.

Groom should be born about 1848, but search 1847-1849 first, which it
sounds like you did.

Possible scenarios:
1) The page that you want with the baptism fell out. Or he wasn't baptized
right away after his birth (maybe they had a quarantine or earthquake and
people were unable to baptize right after the birth).

Solution: Start searching baptisms in January 1874 working your way back.
He may have been baptized shortly before his marriage.

2) You are searching every 2 years.

Solution: I do every 9 months. I've seen some babies born a year apart.
Also, I've seen children born BEFORE the marriage, while the couple were
waiting for their dispensation.

3) You may have just missed the baptism.
Solution: Look again, which it sounds like you did.

Please help me read the record on the right side of the page. It says that 
the groom's parents are Alferes Manuel Vieira Lourenco and Isabel or Rosa 
or? deceased. What is the groom's mother's name?  Are the groom's parents 
from Altares? Is Alferes is a military position? 
The bride's parents are Antonio Coelho de Ornellas, deceased and 
Beatriz. Is there anything else? Are they from Altares? I can not find 
these two couples in the index of marriages for Altares.

I think it's the 26 Feb 1832. I'm sure it's February, which was abbreviated
(Fev.^ro, with the "ro" raised). Someone else will have to verify if it's
26 or 22.

Right side, marriage of Jose Alexandre Homem and Marianna do Coracao de 
Jesus

This is a difficult one for me to read, light ink.

The date looks like the 20th of June ?? 1832

Jose Alexandre Homem son of Manoel Homem and Josefa Antonia - defuntos 
(Manoel also known as Manoel Homem Martins per his grandsons marriage 
record in 1861)

Marianna daughter of Joaquim Jose Soares and Maria Ignacia

Can anyone read the full date?  

I have searched the marriage index for Fontinas and none of the parnts

parish; but can't read which on in the record (if its in the record at all).

Their sons (another Agostinho Coelho de Mello) has her farther's name as 
Narciso Ferreira.

My question - am I reading the Delfina's father name corectly as Narcisco 
Ferreira Lourenco??

Any help appreciated.

I have another marriage record that was hoping someone would help me with.  

Bottom left - goes onto top right.  Marriage of Joam da silva and Maria de 
pementel?

I only can gather the name of Joam's mother - Anna da silva.  Of course the 
page is ripped in the corner with the father's name - who is deceased - 
then the bride's parents are ...  manuel ? , deceased and maria ?

I am also having trouble with the date.  

Was wondering if anyone knows of this family.

in lines 4 and 5 it looks like there are impediments, but I can't 
understand the words before and after to get the relationship.

in the lines 8 - 9 I see the "groom" is Antonio Silveira Carauta.  I cannot 
understand the words between Carauta and what I read as the name Isabel 
Maria.  My questionis:  Is Isabel Maria his mother?

Then I see the "bride" is Maria Silveira fila da Pedro Silveira and his 
wife Barbara Silveira.  *[Maria is my 3rd great grand aunt]*

It looks to me the name is Vin senso? (Vincenzo) Luiz.  Looking at the V in
the name Evangelho below, it is a guess at this point.  This person passed
away in 1751 but there are no obits in Porto Judeu for this era.  Does
anyone know if they exist under another Parish?

Thank you Margaret.  That's a better guess than anything I was coming up 
with.  I don't understand the math scratch paper in the margin because this 
is not a baptism where these computations are usually found.  I'm not sure 
that he died in 1751 as that would have been his 79th wedding anniversary. 
 I did look through Porto Judeu baptisms from 1643 to about 1654 for a 
Simão to see if I could get a different look at his father's name but came 
up empty.  Thanks again.

Following the same rule of the baptisms and because the calculation is made
on this respective marriage record it indicates to me that it had a
beginning (1672) and ending (1751).  It lasted 79 years.

At this point we don't know who may have died first but it would be a quick
find were the records for 1751 available.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Help reading marriage of Simão Martins to Maria Pacheca, Porto Judeu, 1672

These are my ancestors and this appears to be the first marriage recorded 
in Porto Judeu (unless there are older missing books).  I can't make out 
the groom's father's name.

What I see is 30 Oct 1672, Simão Martins, son of ??? Luiz and Anna Martins

Any help to fill in the blank or to correct any mistakes is greatly 
appreciated.

Many times we encounter a name or spelling variation we are not familiar 
with, but because we know what the name is, we ignore the variation or its 
different appearance. So the best we can do is show a spelling variation or 
error. I should know better. So this name may even be "de Avila" in a very 
compressed jumbled form, so that you only see Avi, because the priest tried 
to fit the wording in. And if Lee knows that Avila is in his lineage, then 
that's what it likely is.

I am in the process of double-checking some of my research and want to make 
surer I'm reading the attached marriage of Joze Rapozo and Quiteria Maria 
correctly:

Left page

I read March 23, 1807 for the date.

Jose Rapozo is the son of Antonio Martins (defunto) and Joanna Rapoza? (not 
really sure of her surname)

Quiteria Maria is the daughter of Luiz Pereira (defunto) and Thereza Maria

It looks like it says they're all from Ginetes (although my records state 
Joze is from Mosteiros and her family is from Fenais da Luz)

I have a couple that I have been having a hard time finding a marriage 
record for and was wondering if anyone has come across this couple in their 
research.

The first child I have found for them is Manoel born 1810 in Matriz,

  I also found 7 other children for them all born in Matriz - the last one,

 None of their children's baptisms seem to list where the parent's were

25 Oct 1789. Yes it says Nossa Senhora da Graca Lugar de Faial. His father
Manuel is deceased. yes it says I believe Joao Raposa was baptized in Nossa
Senhora da Graca, Faial.  and Theresa de Jesus was the daughter of Antonio
de Viveiros deceased and Antonia Francisca. Theresa baptized in Senhora de
Bom Jesus (Rabo de Peixe)

I think that you are right on all of the names. The mother of Anna Josefa
is Maria de something and I can't read Santa but I do read Rosa so maybe
someone else will verify that one. The marginal note is just stating the
groom and the bride as Anna Rosa *digo *(mistake, what follows is correct)
Josefa. So, the bride's name is Anna Josefa not Anna Rosa.

The record I'm looking at (link above) is at the top of the right-hand 
page.  I believe it is that of the marriage of Joao Pereira das Neves and 
Anna Josefa - 26 Oct 1815

I think in this record, it reads that parents of Joao Pereira das Neves 
are: Joao Pereira das Neves and Ana Rosa and

parents of Anna Josefa are: Antonio das Neves and Maria da Santa Rosa.

Would someone please help confirm that I have the correct record?

My other question about this record is about the note in the margin to the 
right of the recordI see the names Joao Pereira and Anna Rosa ??? 
 Josefa, but can't  understand the meaning of this note.  I'm especially 
curious because when I look at records for the children of this couple who 
were married in 1815...I have seen the mother written as Anna Rosa.  I keep 
digging, in case I have identified the wrong child/children. 




I don't mind saying.there are way too many generations of Joao Pereira 
das Neves.  I am having a heck of a time keeping *them* straightlet 
alone their wives and children!  :-)

I don’t think the mother of the bride is Maria Santa Rosa I cannot get a good 
read on it other than she was dead at the time of the marriage of her daughter.

Can someone help with the marriage below please?  

Sebastiao de Oliveira and Gertudes da Asumpcao - Right Side.

I can clearly see the parents (Manoel de Oliveira Pimentel/Theredsa de 
Jesus for Sebatiao and Miguel de Sousa Sidadam(ao) and Maria de Paiva for 
Gertudes).

The marriage occurred June 4, 1759.

I see after Sebastiao's name mention of Ajuda (Adjuda da Bretanha?) and 
baptizado (met his obligation?) and after Gertudes of this parish? Also 
baptizada (met her obligation??)

Thanks, once again for all the help the group provides for non-Portuguese 
speaking/readers like me!

Paiva of Rabo de Peixe both married to a Sebastiao Oliveira - One is listed 
as Gertrudes Sousa Rocha wife of Sebastiao (married 6.4.1749 *have not 
found a marriage with this date to-date; think someone may have made a 
mistake when translating and should be 1759?  if so why differences in 
mothers name of Sebastio??*) who was the son of Manoel Oliveira Pimentel 
and Teresa de Teves AND the other listed as Gertrudes da Asumpcao wife of 
Sebastio (married 6.4.1759) who is the son of Manoel de Oliveira Pimentel 
and Theresa de Jesus!  

Both of the above couples were from Rabo de Peixe.  The marriage of second 
couple was translated by Rick (thanks again).

I'm trying to figure out if the above are two distinct couples or one with 
various names and a daughter who used interchangeable names as well.  

I'm getting very confused with this one.
