I wanted to chime in here and say that I am currently working on the *Vila
Franca Matriz marriage records for 1763-1799* (since there already is an
index of names starting 1800-1900)
I currently have Apr 1763- July 1777 marriages done and will definitely
share with the group when its all done.
I think it would be fantastic if volunteers transcribe and share their
index lists. I still think its super important for people to confirm
names, dates with the original documents on the CCA site in case something
was interpreted wrong. The documents online may have alot more information
that might be important that we are not including on the transcribed
indexes like...places of birth, sidenotes of info...etc...

Fernando,

As you know, there is a marriage index for Sao Miguel Arcanjo from
1800-1900. My suggestion would be to work backwards from that date (so
starting in 1799 and working backwards). The further back you go, the more
abbreviations are there and the more difficult it is to decipher. You may
find more people willing to help out with the late 1700s too, as those
earlier records are more difficult. I'd think you find more volunteers for
a later time period. Anyways, it's just a thought. Since you are organizing
it, you can do it however you chose :)

[AZORES-Genealogy] Vila Franca Records

2019-06-30 Thread Fernando Pimentel
In a previous post I found out that Terri Santos had transcribed and made
available an index of Sao Pedro in VF (which was helpful). I thought that
instead of going through the records over and over I should create an index and
hopefully the extra work up front would pay off after. Also once I’m done I
will share with the group somehow and others can benefit. So I decided to do
Matriz marriage from 1670-1705. Here’s why I’m writing this post, does anyone
have any indexes they have done (of VF or any other areas besides the one on
the Gen website)? Does anyone want to transcribe any records from VF? We can
coordinate so we split the work and help each other out.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Vila Franca do Campo People

2014-02-20 Thread Marcia
I've been communicating back and forth with the Camara Municipal trying to
find some information that could be helpful to fellow researchers who
decide to visit. One of the things we've really enjoyed are attending a
couple of the Festas in VFC, but often find it hard to get dates in
advance. Here is the festa schedule for the upcoming season:

Festa de São Miguel Arcanjo | Procissão do Trabalho - May 11
Festas do Feriado Municipal – São João da Vila - June 24
Festa do Coração de Jesus (Ribeira das Tainhas) - July 20
Festa de Nossa Senhora da Piedade (Ponta Garça) - August 3
Festa do Santíssimo Sacramento (Água d`Alto) - August 24
Festa do Senhor Bom Jesus da Pedra - August 31

We attended Sao Joao last year and it was wonderful - crazy, but
wonderful! Advice to attendees - rest up in advance! A few years ago we
attended the Festa de Sao MIguel Arcanjo and it was extremely moving.

The other thing I've noted from time to time on this board is that folks
would like to rent apartments in VFC which are also a bit difficult to
find. Here are 3 links provided by the Camara.

HI Marcio,

I don't have any of those particular people in my tree.

I think all of the Sao Miguel Arcanjo films exist.  Canto made an index of
selected families and that index runs from 1600-1856.  I copied only 1600-1670
(where the film starts).

The Sao Pedro church has gaps (some are not noted in their catalog).  Shirley
Allegre and I know of 11 or so pages that are missing in the 1770s.  When we
went to the archive, we asked for the book.  It had been rebound.  Those pages
were just lost.

I don't know if that's the same case you have at the Matriz.  Look at the page
numbers.  Look at the dates and see if they jump too much.

Wish I could be of more help.

2011-02-20 Thread Margaret Vicente
Hi,

Yes it is possible especially after the French invasion in 1807. The
Portuguese progression up the chart are 1st Homo Sapiens in the North,
Iberians in the South (believed to be peoples from North Aftrica), Celtic,
Roman, Germanic, Morish. And then, after the age of Discovery (Infant Don
Henrique, the Navigator), 60 years of Spanish Dominion, followed by the
French invasion :

France and Spain signed the Treaty of Fountainebleau, which gave Napoleon
the right to invade Portugal through Spain. They agreed that after the
invasion, Portugal would be divided between France and Spain. The French
occupied the country in 1807, and the Portuguese royal family fled to
Brazil. About 50,000 French and Spanish troops roved the countryside
arresting, killing, plundering and raping as they pleased. In 1808 Portugal
got help from the British, their oldest allies.

to -Nossa Senhora da Vida- 3rd Visconde de Botelho, that Vila Franca do

[AZORES-Genealogy] Vila Franca do Campo visit

2009-04-10 Thread Marcia

Cheri and others,

I'm hoping that perhaps you can provide some advice to us regarding
our upcoming visit to Vila Franca do Campo in about one month. We
hope to locate relatives there but do not have much information to go
on, other than the fact the family could be from the St. Michael's
parish.

When the family emigrated in 1904, the eldest daughter stayed
behind. We know her name, that she was a teacher, and that when her
younger sister visited her many years later she reportedly still lived
in VF and had a houseful of children and grandchildren.

Our living cousins here in the US have scoured their family records
trying to help us find more information without success. We know
that she as born pre-1892. While we've searched LDS films for her
parents vitals, we don't know any of hers. We've struck out on the
parents as well, and are thinking that they could have been baptized
and married at another parish even thought their passport records id
this as their parish.

We also have some family photos, but none that include this eldest
daughter. Still we hope they might be useful, and have made reprints
to use when we are there. Other than simply walking around and
asking town residents, I wonder if you have any advice for us. We
have also timed our visited to coincide with the annual parish festa,
in hopes that this could afford additional opportunities for us.

We hope that if we can find her decedents, perhaps they can lead us to
more information about the parents. Any advice at all would be
appreciated.

Regards, Marcia Andre
