Re: [Bacula-users] How to save /dev tree and base directories only?

2024-01-22 Thread Pedro Oliveira
Some directories are irrelevant into a backup. For example:

   - /dev/*
   - /proc/*
   - /sys/*
   - /tmp/*
   - *lost+found

They are created during the boot, and are related specific with your
devices and/or your running processes.

While its irrelevant to backup or not - your kernel will recreate those
directories when boot from restored backup - you probably will save a
little time if you do not backup it.

Re: [Bacula-users] Questions re installing on Debian 11 Bullseye

2023-10-04 Thread Pedro Oliveira

Hi  Vaughan

Heitor from Bacula Latam has a script that automates the Bacula
Instalation process.

Please have a look at

Às 06:18 de 04/10/23, Vaughan Wickham escreveu:

Hello,

I’m trying to the follow the installation / setup instructions here
https://www.bacula.org/13.0.x-manuals/en/main/Installing_Bacula.html

Unfortunately, I’m finding these docs hard to follow.

The ‘Installing Bacula’ section appears to focus primarily on building
Bacula from the source.

However, in my case, I have downloaded the Debian 11 binaries, so I
think this section is largely irrelevant in my scenario.

I have downloaded and installed the following packages:

sudo dpkg -i bacula-common_13.0.3-1_amd64.deb

sudo dpkg -i bacula-client_13.0.3-1_amd64.deb

sudo dpkg -i bacula-console_13.0.3-1_amd64.deb

sudo apt-get install dbconfig-common

sudo apt-get install dbconfig-pgsql

sudo apt-get install postgresql-contrib

sudo dpkg -i bacula-postgresql_13.0.3-1_amd64.deb

During the postgresql installation a menu appeared, and I was prompted
to perform some high-level database configuration.

So, to the best of my knowledge I have installed Bacula OK and basic
PostgreSQL configuration is done.

In the tutorial section
https://www.bacula.org/13.0.x-manuals/en/main/Brief_Tutorial.html

The first step is:

 1. cd

But I don’t have an install directory, as I downloaded all of the
binaries. So, where should I be starting from?

Step 2. Start the Database.

According to systemctl: PostgreSQL service is active.

Step 3. Start the Daemons with ./bacula start

I get no such file or directory.

The files / folders that I do have are:

/opt/bacula

/opt/bacula/scripts/bacula

/var/log/bacula

/var/lib/bacula

Would appreciate some suggestions on what to do / try next.

Also, is there by chance another installation guide / tutorial that is
perhaps easier to follow than this guide. I’ve had a look on Google
and YouTube and while I have found some other resources, they don’t
seem to be the “answer”. So, for now, I’ve been persisting with this
guide.

Thanks

Regards,

Vaughan

Hi Radosław,

Thanks for the information.

I know that the NDMP-plugin is commercial, and we are willing to pay
license fees (up to a reasonable amount, of course) for using it with
Bacula community edition. I'm not interested in the full Bacula
Enterprise edition, as it's a complete overkill in our case. Another
aspect is migration. If forced to migrate our very well working Bacula
installation, there are also other backup products to consider.

Though I'm quite annoyed that Bacula Enterprises hasn't bothered to
contact me at all.

If you have access to Bacula Enterprise NDMP Plugin then use it with
your Bacula Enterprise installation. Do not bother to force the
Bacula Community client to use this plugin.

Just use Bacula Enterprise. This is the simplest possible solution.

From a technical point of view I know how to do it. But from a legal
point of view you should not use this software in that way.

I  need to backup data from a NDMP-compliant NAS, and it starts

Just use Bacula Enterprise. This is the simplest possible solution.

I contacted Bacula Systems about a month ago about this, but no
reaction so far. Hopefully, I can get some more information from the
community.

Ok, this changes the view.
I can forward your email to our sales to close the deal if you wish.
We (Inteos) are very professional and we can help in every case.

Re: [Bacula-users] Q: disk file volume error state - keep or delete?

2023-03-01 Thread Pedro Oliveira

On Pool Client1 you need to have this Pools Configured.

*ScratchPool = *This directive permits specifing a
specific scratch Pool to be used for the Job. This pool will replace the
default scratch pool named/Scratch/for volume selection. For more
information about scratch pools seeScratch Pool
<https://asda12bnghjwwasdasdauth.docs.baculasystems.com/core/director.html#blb-thescratchpool>section
of this manual. This directive is useful when using multiple storage
devices that share the same MediaType or when you want to dedicate
volumes to a particular set of pools.

*RecyclePool = *This directive defines to which pool
the Volume will be placed (moved) when it is recycled. Without this
directive, a Volume will remain in the same pool when it is recycled.
With this directive, it will be moved automatically to any existing pool
during a recycle. This directive is probably most useful when defined in
the Scratch pool, so that volumes will be recycled back into the Scratch
pool. For more on the see theScratch Pool
<https://asda12bnghjwwasdasdauth.docs.baculasystems.com/core/director.html#blb-thescratchpool>section
of this manual.

TBH I don’t see how the pool config is related to my question, but sure, I can

   ActionOnPurge = "Truncate"
   MaximumVolumes = 20
   MaximumVolumeJobs = 6
   MaximumVolumeBytes = 500
   VolumeRetention = 864
   Storage = "storage1"
   AutoPrune = no

I would like to know: do I just delete the volumes that are in “Error” state or

I wrote that I was able to get Bacula to write new volumes. That is not part of
my question.

My question is this:

Now I have in my catalog a number of disk file volumes in state “Error”. There
are no corresponding volume files on disk with the names found in the catalog.

Will Bacula recycle those volumes automatically (I supposed it doesn’t)?
If not, what to do with those error volumes in the catalog? just delete them?
Or move then to scratch?

For Bacula to move the volumes to sracth pool we will need to have scratch
pool defined on the pool client1 also for recycle pool.

Re: [Bacula-users] Bacula 9.6 - Pool clean up (with migration?)

2023-01-26 Thread Pedro Oliveira

Hi Andrea,

You could take advantage of the Bacula Recycle and Scratch Pools.

Scratch Pool, pre-created volumes

The scratch pool is an excellent labour-saving feature. Rather than
pre-assign all your volumes to the different backup pools, you can place
all your volumes into the scratch pool, and configure your backup pools
to take a new volume from the scratch pool when needed, and return
expired volumes back to the scratch pool when recycled. This means your
backup pools only ever contain full (or a single part-used) volumes.
This is again useful when running low on disk space, since volumes no
longer need to be manually moved and relabelled to make space elsewhere.

You can  check if everything is okay with the volumes with Bacula BLS
command.

https://www.bacula.org/11.0.x-manuals/en/utility/Volume_Utility_Tools.html#SECTION00150

Usage: bls [options]
 -b specify a bootstrap file
 -c specify a config file
 -d specify debug level
 -e exclude list
 -i include list
 -j list jobs
 -k list blocks
(no j or k option) list saved files
 -L dump label
 -p proceed inspite of errors
 -v be verbose
-V specify Volume names (separated by |)
-E Check records to detect errors
 -? print this message

./bls -k -v -v /tmp/File002

Re: [Bacula-users] Problem with Bscan, cant find catalog to put a tapelistng into the database

2019-10-07 Thread Pedro Oliveira

Hi Leever

Change your Postgresql pg_hba.conf to the following,

# Allow any user on the local system to connect to any database with
# any database user name using Unix-domain sockets (the default for local
# connections).
#
# TYPE DATABASEUSERADDRESS METHOD
local all all trust

# The same using local loopback TCP/IP connections.
#
# TYPE DATABASEUSERADDRESS METHOD
hostall all 127.0.0.1/32trust

# The same as the previous line, but using a separate netmask column
#
# TYPE DATABASEUSERIP-ADDRESS IP-MASK
METHOD
hostall all 127.0.0.1 255.255.255.255
trust

# The same over IPv6.
#
# TYPE DATABASEUSERADDRESS METHOD
hostall all ::1/128 trust

# The same using a host name (would typically cover both IPv4 and IPv6).
#
# TYPE DATABASEUSERADDRESS METHOD
hostall all localhost trust

Execute Postgresql Reload to assume the new connection parameters, and
then execute BSCAN, it will be easier to "bscann" the volumes whiteout
asking for Postgresql Password.

Please, don't forget after terminating the Bscan to revert the Psql
Pg_hba.conf to the original state.

Best

Pedro

Re: [Bacula-users] Identify corrupted volume files

2019-08-12 Thread Pedro Oliveira
Hi Jose,

you can create a new verify job and check the catalog against the disk or
create a script and use the bscan and bls volume utility tools, please
check the following urls:

*Verify*Run a verify Job. In general, *verify* jobs permit you to compare
the contents of the catalog to the file system, or to what was backed up.
In addition, to verifying that a tape that was written can be read, you can
also use *verify* as a sort of tripwire intrusion detection.

For a *Verify* Job, the Level may be one of the following:

*DiskToCatalog*This level causes Bacula to read the files as they currently
are on disk, and to compare the current file attributes with the attributes
saved in the catalog from the last backup for the job specified on the
*VerifyJob* directive. This level differs from the *VolumeToCatalog* level
described above by the fact that it doesn't compare against a previous
Verify job but against a previous backup. When you run this level, you must
supply the verify options on your Include statements. Those options
determine what attribute fields are compared.

This command can be very useful if you have disk problems because it will
compare the current state of your disk against the last successful backup,
which may be several jobs.
