Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] changes to internetradio without good reason ?
Add me to the list of those that want the ability to "fully" customize the Home menu and sub-menus. It is fine to have a default setup for initial installations, but after that what's the point?. This is "similar" to OEM Windows vendors adding icon to the Windows Desktops for bloatware. Again, now-a-days I expect, the initial boot of a new computer to have a default configuration with a desktop full of icons that I can re-arrange/move/delete at will. Once I customize my system desktop I expected it to remain customize after every reboot. After a while one gets used to having certain icons in the same place... I don't care (no disrespect) what UI designers think is the best way for me at this point... I want my interface shortcuts (icons) placed where "I" want them. I understand that there might be requirements to expose 3rd party vendor's services to existing users... But this can be done during software updates/installations by offering an "option" to add the new service (item) to your Home Menu or sub-menus. I have a similar issue with the new mysqueezebox.com. Once a user adds and configures the mysq services what the use of revisiting the Home page as it exist?... Just to click the Remote Control tab? I'd be nice if after the user configures the mysb services they were redirected to a secondary Home page where the Remote Control (player) has the focal point and any advertisement and system notices required where placed around it. Just like the Web UI interfaces from services like Pandora and Slacker do. Don't get me wrong... I welcome all the new features and enhancements, but more flexibility to customize the interfaces once one becomes a "regular" user is needed. -- tamanaco tamanaco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4620 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67149 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

Shoutcast an app ??? I don't understand My language is Dutch and now I have Italian language in the Shoutcastmenu! :-( I do not speak Italian. (When I prefer English, the Shoutcast menu is English) I agree that this new software is not easier and better than the older version. -- Mars Mars's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33061 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67149 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] changes to internetradio without good reason ?
Well my simple point to this was that radio providers should not be apps at all. There is a valid idea to have this for pandora or last FM and napster or similar. As they are something more than "radio". Radio providers could reside under internetradio>radio networks where they naturally fits. Just like you have your socks in sock drawer and milk in the fridge not the other way around ? It would never in a million years occur to me to look for an radio provider under "applications" when there is an internetradio menu. Some Plugins reside under "Extras" but that menu is on the way out ? There is something called "featured apps" I think this will change from time to time to highlight different or new applications, thats for discovering new things. Being able to sort the home menu would be nice to I don't like to have chose player between App Gallery and My Apps -- Mnyb No it can NOT be controlled with iTunes Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67149 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] changes to internetradio without good reason ?
You guys got my vote! :) Yes, that is what I'm saying autopilot. Just as they have "categories" for choosing plugins in App Gallery maybe have the same for My Apps. I was adding that it would be great if those could be customizable in some way. Have very few Apps? Then you don't need My App categories. Have lots of Apps? Then you might want categories to separate them. I suppose it's a real acrobatic act between simplicity and customizability. Too simple and we have pages of Apps to scroll through. But then too much customizing may be confusing to new users. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67149 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

autopilot;453468 Wrote: > I don't like having all apps thrown into My Apps in a flat list > I agree. This is not progress. I can cope, because I read the forums thus know what to expect, and I "installed" the "Apps", so I know to look for these non-App things in "My Apps". However, anyone else who casually approaches a player that I have set up would never think of finding internet radio stations within "My Apps", because they aren't their apps - they didn't install them. They would expect to find them within Internet Radio, seeing that still exists with some stuff in it. Having the same sub-folder categories in My Apps would be a slight improvement, but still not correct. They need to integrate into the existing menus, and ideally be configurable. How are plugins handled? i.e they are installed into Squeezebox Server, and then appear in player menus without needing to be installed as Apps. I don't think it's even clear what App Gallery is. It's not clear that this is a list of applications that need to be installed before they can be used; nor where to find them once installed. It would be better if it were a list of applications available for installation. i.e. once installed, remove from App Gsllery. One of the reasons for changing to an Apps approach was apparently that people found it hard to discover features. I don't think this helps; certainly when there are new Apps available. Why is it deemed easier for users to browse App Gallery, find a radio provider, install the app, then browse My Apps to find the app again? Users will have to periodically look through App Gallery to discover new Apps. That means skipping through all the apps that they have already installed, or ignored. Taking out apps that have been installed would be good. Being able to hide apps that the user has no interest in would be good too. Perhaps some way of displaying apps in some order would be good. Will users expect to find a way to "Upgrade Apps", "Uninstall Apps", find the version of their installed App? -- Philip Meyer Philip Meyer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=95 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67149 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] changes to internetradio without good reason ?
I don't like having all apps thrown into My Apps in a flat list, i would much prefer so kind of logic ordering/sorting, even if it's a extra option with flat list as the default. For example, have the apps organised into sub folder categories in 'My Apps' much the same ways as the 'App gallery' is (music services, internet radio etc). I think that's what Toby is suggesting above(?). I think its also long over due that we should be able to have much more control over the home menu, with custom folders and be able to move items into these as we wish. As well as being able to reorder items on the home menu. -- autopilot Cheers, auto. *lounge:* squeezebox 3, squeezebox controller, cambridge audio 640a, mission 701's *kitchen:* squeezebox, trends ta-10.1, kef cresta 1's. *bedroom:* squeezebox boom *bathroom/garden:* squeezebox boom *car:* ipod classic 80gb autopilot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1763 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67149 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] changes to internetradio without good reason ?
I'd guess they will have a "apply this App to all players" option, maybe just not implemented yet. Another idea for future Apps would be a simple review "grid" on MySB showing all players (down left side) and all Apps (across the top). Simple check marks to show which player has which Apps. Maybe even a way to select (install) that App on a player by just clicking the empty field (where the check mark will appear after install). As they add more Apps and their customers buy more players it will get quite confusing to remember what Apps are installed on which players. I agree on the Radio Networks App/folder. Also would be nice to have the Music Services App/folder. Or an option to add specific folders (Music Services, Radio Networks, etc..) as the parent menu item when one goes to My Apps. This way people with many Apps have a bit less clutter to scroll through within My Apps, while others with few Apps can just have all Apps appear immediately within My Apps. Maybe a Custom Folder App?? :) -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67149 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] changes to internetradio without good reason ?
To my liking, too much has been pressed into the new and shiny (urgs!) "App" category. And "Apps" are player-specific. So yes, it's a hassle to manually keep track of what needs to be installed on which player and probably loose it during the next firmware update. "Apps" (which aren't, mostly, but just menu extensions) can be nice, but a feasible default set should be pre-selected, and a feature introduced like "Make this app available on all players". They're talking about new "managers" and people who shall optimize the system for "average Joes" (aka normal users) but what they -do- is make it all more unusable and cluttered and have much more keypresses needed instead of less. I do understand that there's a lot going on behind the scenes, like adopting everything for the new hardware, and I can understand things not working in beta versions, but I cannot understand heading the whole business unit in (what I feel) the wrong direction. Like, for heaven's sake, who wants a small 4" touch screen device in his HiFi rack which cannot be moved (due to the cabling) and needs crossing the living room to even read what's on the screen, or press "Mute" or "Next song"? (I -love- my Duet when it works ;-) Oh well. This was supposed to become a positive post, but I*couldn't help it. [SlimDevices: Beta] changes to internetradio without good reason ?
hello for now it's seems that no Radio Networks is available under the "internetradio" menu Where they for all meaningful intent and purpose *should* be. Nothing else makes any sense at all period. If I for example casually wants to check out what radioio or shoutcast have today. Then I have to install radioio or shoutcast as an app ! aarrrghhh . There are 12 radio-networks they would clutter my "My Apps" menu and make it a horrible mess, while they would fit perfectly under a RadioNetworks menu under "Internet Radio" ? It's a perfectly viable *option* to install them as apps, I can understand if you want to move BBC to the home menu for example, thats great. 4 player times 12 that makes for 48 app installs ? And I end with an "My Apps" menu cluttered with radio providers that should be under "Internet Radio" ? Is this some kind of shady deal with the providers, to maximise the exposure of their tiny little icon, this would actually make sense as with this UI model you will not have all Radio Networks installed it gets to messy. Whats next, mandatory exposure on the home menu ? Can we have the "Radio Networks" back under the internet radio menu as it was a couple of days ago, then we can easily access them in a logical way without even installing them as an app ;) Please with sugar on it, sorry for the rant i don't suffer stupid things well. -- Mnyb No it can NOT be controlled with iTunes Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67149 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
