Ok, so instead of hiding behind a pretty shoddy grassroots marketing
attempt

("hey man I just found a cool device"), why not come out and state clearly
that you're affiliated with these people, that you think it's the cat's
ass,
that you're local and you have the ear of the developers? Do you not
think

that all of those points are important enough to mention?

Honestly, there's enough of a precedent set on these lists which show it's
just good manners to state when you've got a stake in what you're calling
attention to. You yourself have been on these lists for AT LEAST a year,
and

should know better.

How many people make product or service recommendations here and disclaim
it
right away? How many people have you seen plug services and CLEARLY state
"I

don't work for 'em, I am just a satisfied customer" or "full disclosure: I
work for this company" ?

Why hide? If it's yours, or you've got a stake in it, why aren't you
standing

proud? I mean shit man, if you've got $thousands dumped into the concept
that's a pretty strong indicator of how you feel.

While I can't speak for others on the list, I know that whenever I feel
deceived I make it a point to not only steer clear of the company
providing
the product or service, but also to make sure that EVERYONE knows about
WHY

I'm avoiding them.

well, when your done your done.

First, I had know that my e-mail would create such a problem.

I have been a part of this list for a while but I did not understand.
So, I went back to TAUG web site and noted:

"If you are a commercial supplier, please contact "asterisk-owner at uc
dot org" for approval before sending messages of a commercial nature."

Oh man; big mistake.

I saw other e-mails saying "I have some stuff for sale etc." so I
thought cool. I'll post the new product. Another big mistake.

Some of the others on the list have handed down some great advice over
the last year.

Please don't think I don't have respect for this list.

Thanks to all those who e-mailed in confidence.

SO BASED ON THAT. AGAIN, EVERYONE PLEASE EXCEPT MY TOTAL APOLOGY. I
WITHDRAW THE WHOLE THING AND WILL NEVER AGAIN POST A THING OF THIS
NATURE.

That isn't what you did. Please have the courtesy of being honest with
everyone, including yourself.

If you had said "I've been working on this new product, we have sold a bunch,
it's especially useful for this type of situation and it's saved us a lot of
pain" I can *assure* you that there would not have been ANY negative
response. You even posted to the -biz list, which is the exact right place
to post.

However, you did not do this. You posted as if you were a random Asterisk
user who had happened upon this product. You then furthered the deception by
continuing to act as if you were just a customer. You didn't come clean
until I asked you specifically.

That, Justin, is where the source of the flack is coming from. You (on
purpose or not) attempted to deceive us.

Again -- You've created a device and from a "plug it in and go" perspective,
it rocks. You're local. That rocks even more. You are willing to entertain
ideas on making the product better. That's fantastic. Seriously, a local
guy who's got a product and we can possibly extend it? Sign me up!

I can't speak for everyone, but as far as I'm concerned the matter's closed.
Hell, if we're ever at a TAUG meeting in the future I'd love to discuss
details of this and other products/projects with you. I wanted to make
clear, though, what caused all of this consternation. I hope that's clear
now, because it was certainly not you posting about your device; it was how
you did it that was the problem.

Hello all,

They are just trying to make money by creating and promoting cool new
gadgets for Asterisk and VoIP world - we should only support them, not
scold them. VoIPGizmos for one will be carrying their products
shortly.

Thanks,

Wouldn't a WBP54G + PAP2T do the same thing for a FRACTION of the cost? I

RE: [biz] Very cool little box.

2007-07-10 Thread Justin Sweeney
I have seen the WBP54G and while useful all it is...is a wireless bridge
with no control.

I like the design and the way the both concepts are COMBINED into one.

And besides, they are a Canadian company. Linksys has enough money.

We can talk to them directly and request firmware adjustments.

We needed something integrated that allows full management capabilities
(including SSH functionality).

We can control them all either via SSH or http.

We don't have the time fumble about with two separate devices, configure
them etc.

Our customers like them because they pick them up at the order desk and
all they have do is take it to their booth location plug it in and it
works. They plug in there phone, computer, POS machine, FAX etc.

For our application it makes sense. One device does it all.

The ROI is awesome anyway because we charge $250 each phone line. So we
make our money very quickly in the trade and consumer show industry.

RE: [biz] Very cool little box.

2007-07-10 Thread Justin Sweeney
I don't see a problem with using a box that has a lot of value to those
of 'us' in the trade and consumer show industry.

If a new solution and/or demand can be fulfilled, why not?

The cost of the unit is reasonable given the returns available.
Especially for a small company in Canada to create something like is
very difficult. Only a small quantity can be manufactured at a time so
the per unit cost is high. As production increases the cost can come
down.

As for price, I'm sure the vendor would be willing to ratify the prices.

As for me...Justin...what's in a name? The question is...is the device
useful?

If you have the link to device I would love to see it.

I still to date have not seen a device that combines everything into
one.

It there is...it would have saved me the headache and last two years of
my life trying to build something.

the us I saw at the trade show in Chicago that are 120us retail.

I saw this one but it still does not have the same software
functionality from what I can see.

http://www.comtrend.com/index.php?module=products&op=show&sn=2

In order to get internet connectivity to this box a physical cable must
be plugged into it.

The wireless portion still seems only as an AP that other devices can
connect to.

Can it communicate SIP via WiFi and output a standard analog dial-tone?

Ok, so instead of hiding behind a pretty shoddy grassroots marketing attempt
("hey man I just found a cool device"), why not come out and state clearly
that you're affiliated with these people, that you think it's the cat's ass,
that you're local and you have the ear of the developers? Do you not think
that all of those points are important enough to mention?

Honestly, there's enough of a precedent set on these lists which show it's
just good manners to state when you've got a stake in what you're calling
attention to. You yourself have been on these lists for AT LEAST a year, and
should know better.

How many people make product or service recommendations here and disclaim it
right away? How many people have you seen plug services and CLEARLY state "I
don't work for 'em, I am just a satisfied customer" or "full disclosure: I
work for this company" ?

Why hide? If it's yours, or you've got a stake in it, why aren't you standing
proud? I mean shit man, if you've got $thousands dumped into the concept
that's a pretty strong indicator of how you feel.

While I can't speak for others on the list, I know that whenever I feel
deceived I make it a point to not only steer clear of the company providing
the product or service, but also to make sure that EVERYONE knows about WHY
I'm avoiding them.

2007-07-10 Thread Justin Sweeney
There is no deception here.

If I was trying to 'deceive' I certainly would have used another name or
gone to great lengths hide my email etc.

Many people are affiliated with companies and push there products.

If anyone here owns Nortel, Cisco, or any other type of stock you have a
stake in that company's product. There is no need to indicate that you
own it when you say 'the Sipura 1001 is a good product.' try it out.
Which is all I am saying.

Grassroots is what this BIZ list is all about isn't it? Making things
known. It is a business list.

I merely present the product form my legitimate standpoint as a consumer
of the product and how I employ it. And I do.

That I happen to help the other half of the company along makes no
difference.

Having said that. If anyone 'feels' they have been misinformed I
apologize. That certainly was not my intent.

I have been a member of this list for quite a while and have enjoyed all
the information and help.

Does anyone out there support me?

commissioned the uClinux guys to design this box for you, you are
their primary developer and an officer. Please stop being so asinine

We can talk to them directly and request firmware adjustments.

We needed something integrated that allows full management capabilities
(including SSH functionality).

We can control them all either via SSH or http.

We don't have the time fumble about with two separate devices, configure

Our customers like them because they pick them up at the order desk and
all they have do is take it to their booth location plug it in and it
works. They plug in there phone, computer, POS machine, FAX etc.

For our application it makes sense. One device does it all.

The ROI is awesome anyway because we charge $250 each phone line. So we
make our money very quickly in the trade and consumer show industry.
