beta3 and bbappconf iconic
I'm not sure exactly when I started using bbappconf -- if it was with 0.62.1 or with an early 0.65 alpha. However, when I originally used it, running "bbappconf -i" wouldn't iconify bbappconf properly -- I'd get a little, blank, decorless window in my upper left screen on each workspace. As a result, I started using "bbappconf -w" so I at least wouldn't see it so much (I run my slit as autohide). Recently, in alpha8, I discovered it was once again iconifying properly. Then, today, when I upgraded to beta3, it reverted to it's weird behavior once again. Is this a problem with bbappconf? Or is there code that has changed and changed back again for the bbtools that would cause this behaviour? I don't notice the same thing happening with bbkeys, the only other bbtool I currently run, which leads me to believe it's a problem with bbappconf... Anybody else noticing this? figured out a patch? Here are the two lines which work for me: bbappconf.1.classHint.name: aterm bbappconf.1.decorless: true Now, this is probably a really stupid suggestion, but you do have bbappconf running in the background, right? I start mine in .xinitrc with: bbappconf -i -s & before blackbox gets executed. Also, you may want to make a note of the bblaunch utility, if you haven't already. The easiest is to call it with bbkeys, and toggling its decor off afterwards with bbkeys too (I use ALT-6 for aterm and CTRL-TAB for toggleDecor). bbappconf
Hi, I was browsing on the bbtools site and got interested by this app. Since the development is going on again (great thing btw), I was wondering if this was going to make the bb source, or if it was to be a separated application. The website itself says the following: "I am not planning to continue development of bbappconf before I have taken a look if I can hack it into Blackbox. This is window management so I think the Window Manager should do this =)" And I agree to that. What do you think, shaleh, and others? Regards, -- tinus

On my BB, it is set up to have only one titlebar decoration: the exit button, and it is on the LEFT side of the titlebar. Every BB upgrade I've had to edit the source to achieve this but it wouldn't be difficult to modify the internals so it is configurable(from what I can tell). Okay. Yes, you're absolutely right. And this is a blackbox issue. Blackbox is broke WRT windows that have decorations removed from them. I've added code to bbkeys to allow decoration toggling (toggleDecor, which will add or strip decorations from the currently-focused window) and went as far as I can go. Blackbox's internals are broken also with regards to being able to tell other apps what the decoration state of a given window is. I've patched blackbox to at least tell external applications whether a given window is decorated or not, but it really does no good because there's the other problem in which blackbox acts like it's going to let you move or resize a now-undecorated window, but doesn't really do it. I've approached Raven (who responded to me, but it's been so long I forget what was said) and nyz (who said that the version of KDE that he runs doesn't have that issue =:) ) about this and it never went anywhere. So, Jeff, if you're out there, is there any update on where this falls on the official blackbox TODO list? -- %<--%< Jason Kasper (vanRijn) bash$ :(){ :|:&};: Numbers 6:24-26

Now, having done this, I fully expected to have to alt-click to move my windows, since that's what I had to do with Eterm when it was borderless, but this doesn't work. Also, I read YOUR message wrong... and though you mean I had to alt+middle-click in order to move the window. I've always been aware of alt+click to move windows, and in fact, I use it more than anything else. when bbappconf removes the window decorations on aterm, alt+click doesn't work... and I want to know why... this is utterly annoying! Blackbox, Umm... I'm running bbappconf... and first off, neat. Second... I removed the window decorations from aterm, but now I can't move it anywhere! At least with a borderless eterm (using it's commandline options) I could use ALT+MOUSEBUTTON1 to move it around. Ideas how I can move these around? thanks. new features patch for bbappconf
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello All, This is my first patch for BlackBox (actually my first patch for any open source project :), so I'm hoping I am doing this all correctly, please don't get too upset if I am not.. This patch adds new functionality to the bbappconf tool. The author states on the bbtools page that he is stopping development until he can figure out if he can roll the application into blackbox itself. If the author of bbappconf could contact me, I could probly help in that job. Anyhow.. the new features! With this patch you can specify the coordinates to place a window (upper left corner), and you can now also specify the width/height of a window. The entries for the bbappconf.bb file are such as follows: bbappconf.1.positionX: 10 bbappconf.1.positionY: 300 bbappconf.1.width: 280 bbappconf.1.height: 400 If only one of either pair is specified (x but not y), then nothing is done with that pair. Position can be specified as a negative number (i used - as the "illegal value" so that would actually not work, i doubt anyone is putting windows that far into negative space..anyone disagree with this?). For the width and height, a negative value is disregarded entirely, they must be positive numbers. Please give me any feedback you have regarding this all. xOr - -- you have no chance to survive make your time -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE7UALc8mPQRGtSu14RAmexAJ9i8sErvTEZIF25AI0s0bmQFXab7wCghad9 +N5QU/3baJ4oPJwYb0E7PkA= =xv4B -END PGP SIGNATURE- diff -r -u bbappconf-0.0.1-peak3~/appconf.hh bbappconf-0.0.1-peak3/appconf.hh --- bbappconf-0.0.1-peak3~/appconf.hh Mon Feb 19 12:40:11 2001 +++ bbappconf-0.0.1-peak3/appconf.hhSat Jul 14 03:12:43 2001 @@ -37,7 +37,11 @@ unsigned int getStartOnDesktop(void) { return start_on_desktop;} bool getMaxHoriz(void) { return max_horiz;} bool getMaxVert(void) {return max_vert;} - + int getPositionX(void) {return position_x;} + int getPositionY(void) {return position_y;} + int getWidth(void) {return width;} + int getHeight(void) {return height;} + char *getName(void) { return appname;} char *getClass(void) { return appclass;} @@ -47,6 +51,10 @@ void setMaxHoriz(bool _max_horiz) {max_horiz=_max_horiz;} void setStartOnDesktop(unsigned int _start_on_desktop) {start_on_desktop=_start_on_desktop;} + void setPositionX(int _position_x) {position_x=_position_x;} + void setPositionY(int _position_y) {position_y=_position_y;} + void setWidth(int _width) {width=_width;} + void setHeight(int _height) {height=_height;} private: bool sticky; @@ -54,7 +62,9 @@ bool max_horiz; bool max_vert; unsigned int start_on_desktop; - char *appname; + int position_x, position_y; + int width, height; + char *appname; char *appclass; }; diff -r -u bbappconf-0.0.1-peak3~/bbappconf.cc bbappconf-0.0.1-peak3/bbappconf.cc --- bbappconf-0.0.1-peak3~/bbappconf.cc Mon Feb 19 13:57:03 2001 +++ bbappconf-0.0.1-peak3/bbappconf.cc Sat Jul 14 03:15:53 2001 @@ -245,6 +245,16 @@ getWMInterface()->sendWindowToDesktop(*win, resource->getAppConf(i)->getStartOnDesktop()-1); } + /* set window size */ + if (resource->getAppConf(i)->getWidth()>=0 && + resource->getAppConf(i)->getHeight()>=0) { + +getWMInterface()->resizeWindow(*win,resource->getAppConf(i)->getWidth(),resource->getAppConf(i)->getHeight()); + + } + /* set window position */ + if (resource->getAppConf(i)->getPositionX()!=- && + resource->getAppConf(i)->getPositionY()!=-) { + +getWMInterface()->moveWindow(*win,resource->getAppConf(i)->getPositionX(),resource->getAppConf(i)->getPositionY()); + + } if (resource->getAppConf(i)->getMaxHoriz() || resource->getAppConf(i)->getMaxVert()) { if (XGetWindowProperty(getXDisplay(), *win, diff -r -u bbappconf-0.0.1-peak3~/resource.cc bbappconf-0.0.1-peak3/resource.cc --- bbappconf-0.0.1-peak3~/resource.cc Mon Feb 19 13:17:56 2001 +++ bbappconf-0.0.1-peak3/resource.cc Sat Jul 14 03:12:25 2001 @@ -61,6 +61,8 @@ int i; char rclass[40]; char rname[40]; + int position_x, position_y; + int width, height; if ((XrmGetResource(resource_db, "bbappconf.numberOf.configs", "Bbappconf.NumberOf.Configs", @@ -164,7 +166,50 @@ app_conf[i].setMaxHoriz(false); } - +sprintf(rclass, "Bbappc
new versions of bbppp and bbappconf
Hello, There are new version of bbppp and bbappconf Jon Franklin send me the patch for upgrading bbppp-0.2.0 to bbppp-0.2.1, thanks =) These are the changes he made: - Using the resumeCommand no longer gets bbppp confused to the point where you can no longer redial - Pounding on the switch button repeatedly no longer generates multiple startCommands and stopCommands, which can really hose things up! - Status lights always get cleared now on manual disconnect, instead of turning to the switching color. - switchColor.switching is now used more intuitively (at least, to me :-). The switch light changes to that color as soon as the user clicks to connect or disconnect. - troughput rates >= 10kbps no longer overflow the throughput window. bbappconf: Added vertical an horizontal maximize options, just change the resources values bbappconf.1.maxVert and bbappconf.1.maxHoriz. Let me know if it works ok, if I don't get any bug reports I'll clean up the code, add documentation and make it an official release. Get it at bbtools.thelinuxcommunity.org greets, John Kennis

No, you're not blind, I love blackbox (and associated utilities), but even the most critical documentation is often only a brief off-topic comment in an e-mail. The approach I use is to follow all the links on the bb home page looking for examples and follow all the links on those pages. Okay, I saw what it does now. The implementation is still a bit fuzzy, and I'd really like to see some sort of NOWTO in the /usr/share/bbtools directory. One other quick question; can you add a -i option like bbkeys so that I don't have to look at the bloody thing? ;) -- -=|JP|=-"Why, oh, why didn't I take the blue pill?" Because I have been on Mars for the last two weeks, and have no idea what this tool does, I'd like to ask `wtf'. I built and installed it successfully, but have absolutely no idea what it is or how to use it. Can you provide some sort of documentation? Why does configure require XpmFree?
