now, can you recommend any screen reader friendly hosts, which are free.
and also can handle such formats as php, asp, sql, visual basic, etc.
any feedback would be fine.

I'm scratching my head, wondering why quicktime wasn't in the control panel
but was on the system tray anyway. Just another wierd computer happening of
which I seem to have more than my share. marilyn

Rick, the problem is that it isn't in the Control panel? Isn't that wierd?
Nor on the programs list. BEt I'll find it if I search. Problem is that
there will be 100's and maybe thousands there because of the Macster backup
hard drive. I really don't want this thing. marilyn

microphone hope you will get a better one soon it would be nice to hear your
voice instead of hearing Jaws all the time.

Hi, Annette,

I had to end up calling verizon and the tech support guy helped me
reset the account as if it was a brand-new account. I hadn't gotten
that password dialog box in a long time. I did the same things you did
and nothing worked so I ended up calling verizon. You might have to do
the same thing if you can't solve the problem.

Hi, everyone,

I called verizon earlier today and they helped me set up my verizon

Re: [Blind-Computing] can't log in to my verizon account using outlookexpress

2009-06-16 Thread shparker

Rosemarie,

I use AT&T Yahoo, and I have had problems where a discrepancy develops
between the number of messages my Yahoo mailbox thinks it has, and the
number of messages that the Outlook Express Server thinks it has. The Yahoo
mailbox is the one you access using Internet Explorer. What I have learned
to do is to access the Yahoo mail inbox, and read a message. This somehow
puts the counts in sync, and Outlook Express suddenly begins working again.

Seems a little crazy I know, but in my case it works every time.

2009-06-16 Thread Patricia Dunbar

You might try this...

1. Press Alt T, A
2. if your email is the only one listed, tab to the properties button and
enter
3. if you have more than one email address listed, then up/down arrow to the
one that is your primary one and tab to properties and enter

4. control-tab to the server page
5. tab down to settings...and enter
6. you have 2 choices here which I have copied and pasted it to show you
what they say..

I have mine on #1.

Outgoing Mail Server
Logon Information
*Use same settings as my incoming mail server
Log on using
Account name:
Password:
Remember password
Log on using Secure Password Authentication
OK Cancel
7. once you made your choice tab to the ok button and spacebar it
8. tab again to the ok button and spacebar it
9. your back on the properties first page tab to a close button and enter

you might have to close OE and reboot to see if these changes help in this
situation.

Interesting, I've been having a similar problem with Outlook and my
Verizon

e-mail. No matter what I do, it frequently asks me for my username and
password. And even when I enter that info in and tell it to check the box
to remember password, it comes back. Sometimes I am not able to navigate
the dialog box to enter in what it needs.

I have found that if I exit Outlook, and then launch it again, the problem
goes away. Other times I have to shut down the computer and reboot.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

HTH,
Annette

Hi Marilyn,
If it was in the system tray, chances are it is set to load at startup,
which means it will be back when you re-boot the machine.

Re: [Blind-Computing] can't log in to my verizon account using outlookexpress

2009-06-16 Thread Annette Carr
Interesting, I've been having a similar problem with Outlook and my Verizon

HTH,
Annette

Hi, everyone

I'm having problems bigtime with outlook express. Lately it keeps asking me
to log in with my username and password. Today I can't even retrieve my
emails. I've done everything from deleting old emails to checking settings
and nothing has helped. I was going to use that address for private emails
but now because of this problem, I've had to switch everything to my gmail
account. Verizon sends me my bills at the knitqueen2007 address but now I
can't even get into the inbox. I didn't call tech support because when you
call them, you talk to someone you can barely understand.

Any help with this problem would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

2009-06-16 Thread Desiree Oudinot
If you want it completely gone from your computer, and you don't need
it for a program such as ITunes, like someone else said, it's not a
required application for Windows, and I think it takes up a good bit
of space. You can uninstall it using add-remove programs in your
control panel, as you would any other program.

I've realized that the directions I gave before don't help much if you
aren't in the same place that I started. So, here's some directions that
may help a little better.

after starting winamp hit control p
arrow left until you can't arrow left anymore.
Arrow up until you find "General preferences"
Arrow right until you hear "file types closed"
you may hear a bunch of file types announced, don't worry about this.
Press shift tab 3 times, or you could tab 10 times, but why do that?
you should then be on a line that says "Explorer settings launch winamp
for

audio CD's" followed by a checkbox.
make sure this checkbox is checked.
Tab 4 times until you come to the "close" button.
Hit enter
Now winamp should play audio CD's.
If it doesn't, I have no clue what to do next... Use something else to
play

CD's maybe... lol

Good luck

You may have already figured it out, but if not, I hope this will help.

I'm using version 5.552 of winamp, which I believe is the newest one.
Start winamp
Press control P
Mine comes up saying something like classic skins, arrow left twice.
Arrow up several times until you find file types.
arrow right once.
Tab until you come to explorer settings launch for audio CD check box.
check it.
Tab until you come to the close button and hit enter.
Winamp should now play audio CD's.

If you're still having problems, email me at:

Good luck.

I think it is.

I use multiple tabs all the time. Control-tab will get you between pages.
Much easier than having to go through different windows. There *is* a
difference, but I can't explain it easily. It looks confusing at first, but
you'll get used to tabs in no time.

Hi, John

I did try calling verizon but some of the techies there are hard to
understand because they have foreign accents. One time I had a problem
and I had to tell this one tech guy nearly 15 times that I am blind
and use speech. Half of the time I don't think they know what they're

I've used gmail for years and don't often have issues with it.

Hi, Elaine

The problem isn't with my gmail account. It's with my verizon account.
That's why I switched everything to gmail. You could try sending me
the text file but I don't think it'll help for my verizon email
address. I think it's on their end--not mine.

if you go in to the accounts section, go to preferences on your email

tab to the server tab.

tab over to where it says settings.

if I'm correct, this is a radio button, it should be set to the first
option, use same settings as my incoming server. or something like that.

then hit ok.

if yours is like mine, it will be set to the other radio button, this
then

has boxes for username and password.

since I've changed this setting I don't get the log in screen, it just
sends

emails as it used to do.

weird though, as I don't remember changing that setting.

any way, hope it helps solve your issue.

I solved the problem and got my gmail to download in OE. I finally found
that on the Security tab in the Options somehow the "More restricted" choice
was chosen instead of the "less restrictive" one.
I imagine it happened when the security update from Microsoft was installed
since that was when the problem began.
I am very relieved to have it working again since it is impossible for me to

hi Sherrie

I'm no way an expert here, but wondered if you removed your account in
outlook express and then added it again would this sort the problem.

you can get a file from google help pages that has the settings already in
place, all you need to do is in put your username and password for your
account and the rest is done for you.

I'm sorry, I cant remember where exactly this file can be downloaded. just
remember it is in the google mail help pages.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Internet Explorer question

2009-06-16 Thread Jane Jordan (Gmail)
I think it is.

I use multiple tabs all the time. Control-tab will get you between pages.
Much easier than having to go through different windows. There *is* a
difference, but I can't explain it easily. It looks confusing at first, but
you'll get used to tabs in no time.

Jane

Is it Internet7 the first time for multiple tabs for multiple web pages to
be easily managed?
I have a heck of a time with multiple web pages at work, and I suspect
they're still working with IE6.

Re: [Blind-Computing] designing organizational documents using Excel2007

2009-06-16 Thread David Griffith
As far as I am aware, from discussions on other lists, the only accessible
way of producing graphic based Organisation charts is to use Microsoft
Project rather than Excel. I think this is in fact a work around where you
use the process mapping charts of Project to emulate a formal organisation
chart.

Although I have Project I have not tested this out myself yet so I cannot
give step by step guidance.

Hi.
noticed that in excel 2007, the chart wizrd has been removed.
and only the chart types, and then insert a chart.
would love a flow chart template for excel.
where can i find this.
or do i search on the office site and download it?
or some one suggestted on another list, that i use merged cells, with ... or
solid lines, and have it highlighted in different borders and colors.
which way would be the easiest, so i does not take me more then an hour to
do this.
any ideas would be welcome.
cheers Marvin.

Re: [Blind-Computing] playing cds

2009-06-16 Thread Stumpy
I've realized that the directions I gave before don't help much if you
aren't in the same place that I started. So, here's some directions that
may help a little better.

after starting winamp hit control p
arrow left until you can't arrow left anymore.
Arrow up until you find "General preferences"
Arrow right until you hear "file types closed"
you may hear a bunch of file types announced, don't worry about this.
Press shift tab 3 times, or you could tab 10 times, but why do that?
you should then be on a line that says "Explorer settings launch winamp for
audio CD's" followed by a checkbox.

make sure this checkbox is checked.
Tab 4 times until you come to the "close" button.
Hit enter
Now winamp should play audio CD's.
If it doesn't, I have no clue what to do next... Use something else to play

If you're still having problems, email me at:
hud...@windstream.net
and I'll try to help you out.
Good luck.
