Subject: [Blind-Computing] opinions about McAfee Internet Security Suite

Hello everyone,

My ISP provides McAfee Internet Security Suite for free with my
subscription. I have never looked into this software. Right now I use the
free versions of Zone Alarm for my firewall and Avast for my anti virus.
My questions are how accessible is McAfee Internet Security Suite?

Is it a good protection program and is it easy to use with JAWS.

I'm just wondering if I should start using it or stay with the other two
for protecting my computer online.

Any opinions will be very helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Ken

Re: [Blind-Computing] making greeting cards using microsoft word

2009-07-02 Thread Bill Gallik
I believe you could do this by modifying the page orientation to landscape
and then setting the margins accordingly. For example, suppose you are
using a standard letter size (8.5 × 11) sheet of paper:

1) Open the FILE menu and select the PAGE SETUP item.

2) In the MARGINS tab minimally set the left margin to some value beyond
5.5 - possibly 6.5 (be careful to allow some printing space on the right
side of the page).
a: Remember you'll be folding this sheet of paper in half and printing
on only the right side of both pages (11 ÷ 2).
b: You'll probably want to adjust the right margin as well to equal the
true left margin size, setting the left margin to 6.5 will render a true
printing margin of 1 on the side where printing occurs; maybe set the right
margin to 1 so your printed pages will be horizontally centered.
c: you may likewise want to adjust the top and bottom margins so you'll
have a nicely centered printed page.

3) Tab to the PAPER SIZE dialog and make certain the Landmark option
(not PORTRAIT) is selected.

4) You will likely want to go to the LAYOUT dialog to set the VERTICAL
ALIGNMENT to centered.

5) You may want to save this blank Greeting Card as a .DOT (Document
Template) file.

Now remember that when placing text and objects in this Greeting Card that
you'll have only one half of the sheet of paper on each side for printing
material. When the print is run, if things were set up correctly, you
should be able to fold the paper in half (like a greeting card) and the
front page and the right side of the inside should have anything on them.

Actually, I know this works because I've done it.

Not sure about Outlook 2000, but in Outlook Express 2003, here are the
steps.

1. Go under the insert tab on the menu bar.
2. Arrow down to picture. Hit enter.
3. It will bring up a normal dialog box where you can tab over to browse and
then find the picture you want to insert.

4. Hit enter and then send your email as normal.

[Blind-Computing] Formatting question

2009-07-02 Thread Joy Cyr
Good day,
I opened a P.DF document and for some reason the entire document is shown with
one word on each line. I presume it is in some kind of column format but I am
not sure. I actually wanted to, and did copy it to Word. Is there anyway I
can reformat it with several words to a line aside from going through it one
word at a time deleting the excess lines and spaces?

Any tips greatly appreciated!

Select the entire document (control a), copy that document, (control c), go
to the edit menu and locate paste special and hit enter; then go to the
option for unformatted text and hit enter.

The result will be an unformatted document with full lines of text.

[Blind-Computing] XP Disk Clean Up

2009-07-02 Thread Donald Marang
I need to figure out how our older XP computer with just Office XP Standard,
Super AntiSpyWare, Avast, NVDA, Unreal Tournament and Sims 3 completely fill a
whole 21 GB partition! I wanted to simply run the Windows 7 advisor to
determine if this computer might have a second chance of life. I quickly got
notices that there was no free space on drive C. My son is unable to install
his favorite game, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. I have been crawling to the
computer in the last two days to remove viruses, SpyWare, perform disk clean
ups, disk check (fix errors on reboot), and defragmentation. The disk is so
full that NVDA and System Access both occasionally stop speaking! I noticed
that when defragmenting, several System Access files could not be defragmented.
I am not sure whether that was because there was only 3% free space after my
clean up efforts or because they were in use.

Does anyone know any other clean up tricks? In Vista, I know how to have it
calculate folder sizes and then sort the drive by size. The clean up utility
to remove temp, log and restore files seems much easier in Vista. The wasted
space does not seem to be user documents, music or videos!

Re: [Blind-Computing] making greeting cards using microsoft word

2009-07-02 Thread Annette Carr
I've used MS-Word to make greeting cards before. I've use regular printer
paper , or you can get other paper that is 8.5x11. I go into the page
settings and change the following:

Margins to .5 or .25
Multiple pages to book fold.
Changing the paper orientation will depend if you want the fold of the card
to be on top or on the left. Unfortunately, it has been so long since I've
done this, I cannot remember If landscape gives you the fold on the left
side, or on top. You will have to experiment.

As I make the card, I treat page 1 as the front of the card, page 2 as the
left page of the inside of the card, page 3 as the right side of the inside
of the card, and page 4 as the back of the card.

When you go to print, Word will take care of printing the pages in the
correct order. If you want the card to be made of one piece of paper, you
will need to figure out what direction to put the paper back into the
printer to print the other side. Sometimes I just print on 2 sheets, and
some how attach the pages together so that the blank sides are facing each
other, and the writing is facing out. I've used colored tape around the
edges to hold the pages together, placed yarn or ribbon threaded through
various patterns of holes around the edges, or tied around the fold of the
pages or just tied in a bow in 2 or four corners of the card. A few dots of
glue might work also.

Hi Don,
As with most applications, when browsing for a file type,
only the ones that can be used will show up during the browsing.
For instance, if you have chosen to insert a .jpg file into a message,
that is the only file type that will show up while browsing.
When the insert picture dialogue opens,
spacebar the browse button.
as you tab thru the dialogue, you are presented with a list of file types.
At the bottom of this list, you will find, all files, *.*.
Once you have this selected, proceed thru the browse dialogue to locate the
file you want.
If you need more help, just sing out.

I have pictures stored in My Document and, whenever I try to insert one in
an E-mail, I cannot access them; they seem to disappear from the files in
My
Document, any advice or suggestions appreciated, thanks, Don

Not sure about Outlook 2000, but in Outlook Express 2003, here are the
steps.

1. Go under the insert tab on the menu bar.
2. Arrow down to picture. Hit enter.
3. It will bring up a normal dialog box where you can tab over to browse
and
then find the picture you want to insert.
4. Hit enter and then send your email as normal.

Is there any way to insert a picture into an email without having to send
it as an attachment? I am
using JAWS 9, Windows XP and Outlook 2000.

Thanks,
Donnie

Re: [Blind-Computing] Inserting A Picture Into An Email

2009-07-02 Thread DoubleLegal

What file types are your pictures saved as?
To put them into an email they will need to be in a format such as .jpg,
.gif, etc. If your pictures are all just in a .doc file then you won't be
able to use those to put into an email. If the pictures have already been
pasted into a .doc file then I believe you can't use them. I think that's
the case. I may be wrong, but maybe somebody else can verify that.
