It might/should hopefully replace the newer version, but you'll have to make sure it doesn't try update itsself again, but reckon it's worth a try anyway. Hi Mike, Try this: 1. Go to the control panel, then system. 2. Go to the hardware tab, then the device manager. 3. Locate the video card, then press enter. 4. Move to the driver tab, then tab to roll-back driver, spacebar that and follow the prompts. Note: After doing this you will need to re-install the video intercept for Jaws, but you can navigate this with Narrator. If you need help with this, get in touch with me. Re: [Blind-Computing] Question regarding lenox and jaws.
Does anyone have any experience with Debion versus Ubuntu? Which is more stable? Which is the easiest to use with Orca? I know that Ubuntu seems to be the latest Linux rage and has really taken quite a foot hold in the Linux community. I've been thinking about installing Ubuntu on one of my machines, but if Debion has a greater advantage, I'd like to know before I plunge into the happy world of learning a whole new operating system. Re: [Blind-Computing] Question regarding lenox and jaws.
Google is your friend at this point. To be able to run a graphical environment, your going to need more memory than you would just running a command line only distribution, and i'm afraid that there's quite a steap learning curve when switching to linux, for example, drives aren't labled the same, in most distributions, if you want to switch to your primary partition on your hard drive which contains the OS, you would type cd /dev/sda1 into a terminal and press enter. of course it's much easier from a desktop environment, but administering the system means you'll need to do some work in the command line to get orca to work with the applications, or else you'll have to use the command line to do most admministration tasks. Re: [Blind-Computing] friends, how do you uninstall and reinstall windows without formatting?
Hi Randy, You can reinstall Windows without reformatting the disc. Depending on how you do the install, the disk can or need not be formatted as part of the installation procedure. You did not say what version of Windows you are running and for example, XP can be installed with an answer file which is basically a script containing your settings and product key etc. Vista is a bit different and I'll let someone else get into that as I ran it for a while and then decided to wait for Windows7. If it's XP you're dealing with you can Google Windows xp unattended setup and get a lot of great ideas. There are also zip files on some of the blindness-related sites with all the info you need. Re: [Blind-Computing] friends, how do you uninstall and reinstall windows without formatting?
It depends on the version of Windows you're reinstalling. I know you can do a clean install of Windows inside Windows itself as of Vista, but not sure about XP. In any case, your old Windows files will be backed up and will be stored in a folder called windows.old, found on the root of the system partition, for example c:\windows.old. This folder cannot be used to attempt to boot to the old Windows since the boot record has been modified to load the fresh copy. Hi Paula, Go to the following link and pick from the language and voices you require. http://www.humanware.com/en-usa/support/vr_stream_software The root of your card is the first level you come to either when navigating to the Strream with the card installed, or the same on a card reader. You pace the file you extract from the .zip file you'll download from the link above onto the card. The file has the extention of .upg which stands for upgrade. When you next power on the stream (you must have the power adapter connected or you'll get an error message) the stream will automatically do the upgrade for you. Re: [Blind-Computing] Question regarding lenox and jaws.
According to Tony Sales, who is leading the Vinux development, Debian is much more stable. He started with Ubuntu with the 1.x versions. Ubuntu is very popular and has a lot of hardware support right out of the box. He was having much difficulty, however, keeping current with their quickly changing baseline. This baseline frequently had problems with certain applications. Therefore, their development cycle would not allow him to create a stable distro. He has done a lot of work configuring this distribution to work with as much hardware support as possible. Of course, the focus is to have accessibility applications installed and ready from the start. With most distributions, you need to know quite a bit about Linux to get Orca installed and configured. I would not want to portray moving to Linux as not having a learning curve! Fortunately, there are numerous sources on the web for tutorials at all levels. If you are curious, give the Live CD a test run! It does not perform as well as installing to your hard drive, but there is absolutely risk free! Some people might prefer to use Vinux in a window of your current Operating system as a Virtual Machine. There is a version setup for 1.5.2 on his server and will soon have a 2.0 release available as well. Keep in mind running two Operating Systems at the same time requires quite a bit of memory, and hard disk. This not a viable option for older machines. Re: [Blind-Computing] friends, how do you uninstall and reinstall windows without formatting?
Hi Randy, Below are 2 different ways of repairing Outlook express. Read through them both to see which way will be best suited for you. Reinstalling OE Windows XP here is a means of repairing/re-installing OE in Windows XP. Repairing Outlook Express NOTE: You must be logged on as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group in order to perform this procedure. To re-install OE: 1. Hold down the Windows key and type R for run. 2. Type the following line exactly and click OK. %systemroot%\inf 3. Locate the file MSOE50.inf . 4. Press applications-key and then enter on Install . This will reinstall the files that Outlook Express needs to proceed normally. 5. Insert the Win MX CD into your CD ROM when asked. Or, here is another way. ok; I hope these instructions are a little more clear, and user friendly. 1, type; windows-key+r=run. 2, In the run dialog box type the following; %systemroot% \inf press enter. 3, now, a list of files will appear on your screen; you need to type quickly; M S O you should see/hear; msoe50.inf now, you can verify that this file is highlighted by routing jaws to pc=insert+minus, on the numpad. 4, now that the file; msoe50.inf is highlighted, you need to press, the, applications key, down-arrow, until you hear, install. Note; when you press the applications key, you will be on, open-button, down arrow once, you should hear, Install-i hear you press the enter key. now, you will need to follow the prompts. note; after pressing enter on the install, please, wait until you receive some notification from jaws. you do not want to interrupt the process. I hope this helps. Take care. Re: [Blind-Computing] Question regarding lenox and jaws.
There are a few text files in the Vinux directory of the software which are also available separately on his web site. These give basic information about this build including vital information needed to use this software like initial username, password, key bindings (hotkeys) that he has set up to make things easier, and a FAQ. Most people, including myself, will want further tutorials. Re: [Blind-Computing] Question regarding lenox and jaws.
My sincerest apologies if my post sounded like a scolding. The reason I brought attention to the misspelling is because for members of the list that are totally blind (as am I) it's important that Linux be spelled correctly for referencing search engines and the like. I also pointed out that Linux is an Operating system (as opposed to a mere program) because folks that depend on JAWS or WindowEyes would be hard-pressed to use JAWS with Linux -- directly any way. So again, I apologize if I seemed preachy, stuffy or any other know it all characteristic, sure didn't mean to come off that way! --- Holland's Person, Bill E-Mail: billgal...@centurytel.net - As the skunk said when he fired a shot upwind, it all comes back to me now. - Original Message - From: kim kelly kim...@clearwire.net To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Monday, August 31, 2009 8:16 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Question regarding lenox and jaws.
