[Blind-Computing] getting song information from home made CD's

2010-08-30 Thread DoubleLegal
Hi all,

I found some CD's packed away that I made a few years back. I did it by pulling
different MP3's from my computer and then burning them to the CD's. I'd like to
get these songs back on my computer because I kind of lost them via a hard
drive crash. The MP3 files had all the information, Artist, album, title, etc.
included in each file.

My question ... Is there a way of going about ripping these CD's to my computer
now that will show all of that information?

Thanks for any help,

Ken

[Blind-Computing] wlm unexpected error

2010-08-30 Thread Lenny McHugh
Last night trying to set all of my lists back to normal and deleting some
emails, I had a problem where the computer froze. After the restart there were
3 messages in the in box that I could not delete. I would get windows live mail
encountered an unexpected error. I had problems shutting down when the message
appeared. I tried everything that I could think of with no good results I
planned to call the computer manufacturer this morning. Late last night I went
on to see if my groups were reset and out of curiosity tried to open one of
these messages and got the same error. Out of desperation I used the shift
delete and got the message are you sure that you want to permanently delete the
message. When I clicked yes it was deleted. It worked for the three messages.
These messages I tried to delete when the computer locked up. I guess that the
reset had them partially deleted causing the error. I am using win 7. I think
this is something to share if anyone ever gets an unexpected error trying to
read or delete a wlm message.

[Blind-Computing] daily tip

2010-08-30 Thread David Ferrin
A Stuck CD Drive

If you try to burn a CD, but your drive won't open, the most likely explanation
is that your drive is stuck in an attempt to read a damaged or unreadable disc.
Power down your system, then gently probe the small hole just below the tray
(often on the right side) with a straight, sturdy piece of wire, such as a
straightened paper clip. This should trigger the drive door's opening
mechanism, and you'll be able to slowly pull it the rest of the way open.
Remove the disc, close the drive, and start up your system. If this problem
persists, you may need to look at replacing the drive.

Re: [Blind-Computing] wlm unexpected error

2010-08-30 Thread Jim Rawls

Lenny,
when you encounter this, do this. Focus on the message you wish to delete.
Then, hit shift delete, and WLM will ask if you really want to delete this
message, and hit enter, and it's gone. Jim Are you also having trouble where
you open an email to read, and jaws won't read it? Jim

Re: [Blind-Computing] getting song information from home made CD's

2010-08-30 Thread Don Marang
If you burned the MP3 files to an audio CD the tag information such as title
is lost. You can easily ripthe songs from the audio CD back to a MP3 file.
Give it a try, perhaps the ripping software has gotten smarter and can
recognize the individual songs. Software that rips songs from a CD uses a
bunch of information from an entire commercial CD to recognize the CD. It
looks this information, like the length of each song, to match it to known
CDs in a datavase on the Internet. The database then can provide the tag
information for each song. If the songs on the CD you burnt were a mix from
several commercial CDs, it is probably impossible.

I'm using version 1.1.4. You can get it at

http://www.videolan.org/

If you're using an older version, let the setup file uninstall it and
install the new one. After the installation is complete, press the alt key
to bring up the menus. It will say media, but if you arrow across, you'll
find different menus which work by down arrowing.

 Hi, everyone,

I just learned about a new screen reader on another list. It's called
guide. I'm tempted to download it and try it out but is it free software
 like NVDA is? Just wondering.

Dan,
That's the one that I'm having problems with.
If I remember correctly, one of the listers said that the application key
will take me where ever I need to go in the program. However, the
application key isn't working at all, would you have any ideas why?
I sure would appreciate the help.
Thanks!

The newest version from the VLC site should work. I haven't tried it with
JAWS yet but it does work with two other screen readers.

Listers,

Please, will someone tell me what version of VLC media player, works with
Jaws? The one that I am using I got from Blind computing website and I
can't

do anything with it

I got my brother to tell me what's on the screen and all is there but Jaws
can't see it. Even when I use the application key.

If there's any way, I really want to use this player,

Thanks! To all.

[Blind-Computing] help free youtube to mp3 burners

2010-08-30 Thread heather kd5cbl

Hello, I cant seem to download any youtube videos that I can convert to mp3
lately! I tried at least ten. Is there another program besides
DVDVideoSoft for this task? The program dings at me that it downloaded but
some of the files did not download. Do I want to try to find out why. So I
say yes but, the suggestions are not working. Did youtube put a end to this
program or what? Every video I tried gave me the same message!
It did not work even when I turned off webroot and it said it was not
blocking the program because I told it to allow the installation. Thanks
so much Heather
