Re: [Blind-Computing] IE 8 settings
That is pretty much it. It is called Tab browsing since at the top of the current page there are what appears to the sighted as a file folder tab for each open page. The sighted normally clicks on the tab they want to view. Fortunately, Microsoft also included the QuickTab drop down menu and lots of hotkeys. Experts say it uses less computer resources when many web pages are open, because the application overhead does not get replicated for each browser window. Therefore, it might be faster. But most people use and like it because it keeps things organized and does not clutter up the task bar and such. Of course, both methods are available. For instance, today I had one browser window open viewing RSS feeds for news. I use the Control + Enter key to open new Tabs for each news headline I am interested in. At the same time I still had a tutorial on Visual Basic.Net with a couple of pages open. Then my wife walks in and needs to find a local place to get her roller skates repaired. In our area, almost all of the rinks and businesses of that type have closed. This is a hard thing to find! I had three or four possibilities as I searched. Having a separate window for each topic with several pages per topic, this method is perfect for someone like me who insists on multitasking! Exactly. You can also use ctrl+1 through 8 to move to a specific tab. I find this useful if I have a lot of open tabs. Ctrl+4 will quickly give me the 4th tab and ctrl+7 the 7th tab etc. Much faster than ctrl+tab or ctrl+shift+tab. -Original Message- From: blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Donald Marang Sent: 11. mars 2010 16:16 To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] IE 8 settings Thanks, I will give that a try next time. Hi, A friend of mine also advised me not to download IE 8 because he said it didn't even work with Jaws 10. I have a much older version of Jaws so I'm glad I didn't upgrade to IE 8. Re: [Blind-Computing] IE 8 and windows XP
It depends. Sorry I can't give a more definitive answer, but some features of IE 8 work fine with JAWS 9, while others don't. For instance, the JAWS read Address Bar command, Insert-A, does not work with JAWS 9, although I understand that it does work with the latest build of JAWS 10. And depending on which IE add-ons you have enabled, some web pages may not load. Try it for yourself. If it doesn't work for you, you can easily uninstall it and revert to IE 7 like I did. Re: [Blind-Computing] IE 8 or Firefox
Hi. I'm not going to tell you whether or not you should switch. I'll just tell you why I use fire fox and then you can decide. I really like some of the add ons like web vissum and another one that lets you create short cuts on your desk top. Web visum is great though, no more waiting for someone sighted to help with the capcher. It also seems to be a little more stable on my system. I also like the feature where you can set fire fox to open at whatever page you were on when you closed it. I don't know if IE8 has these features but anyway there you go. hth kind regards Maria and Karly Australia Skype id bubbygirl1972 msn bubbygirl1...@gmail.com looking for something to do? come join us on TAFN www.tafn.org.uk Wives? this one's for you check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/blindwivesclub or send a blank email to: blindwivesclub-subscr...@yahoogroups.com A true friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart. Re: [Blind-Computing] IE 8 is out!
Ok, FWIW, the download process from that homepage wouldn't work for me, but when I went here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx I searched for the word: internet on that page, and found the links to versions for various operating systems, and when I hit enter on the one for my windowx XP version, it took me to the page where I just hit enter on the download button, and that worked. Will try it out on my windows XP pro, along with jaws 10, and let you know how I found it. Re: [Blind-Computing] IE 8 is out!
Well there a few new goodies within IE8 that I might like such as the in private browsing which Firefox already has. Also, the suggested sites featur which I've not played with is good. And it has excellerators which I am not quite sure know how they work. Only minor flaw is that JAWS won't read the address bar with incert plus A.
