Re: [blind-gamers] blindfold games for android

2017-11-10 Thread Justin Jones
Welcome to game-exclusivity, a constant fact of what being a gamer is
all about: you want to play a specific game not available on the
systems you have? You'll have to fork out the necessary money to buy
that new system plus the game. It's how the gaming industry has worked
for the passed forty or so years.

Hello

Android and IOS are two very different systems but
it is as easy to produce accessible apps from both.

The problem is the return from Android is very low to nil even with the
 low developing costs.

IOS is very expensive to code for but is offset by the numbers who
download and are willing to pay for apps.

The workload Blindfold games would have to do is huge and would be for
probably little or no return.

I would suggest that Blindfold Games start a funding drive to cover the
costs of converting the apps to Android such as kickstarter or some such
service.

I wish them all the luck in the world.

partially
accessible? that is rediculous! maybe that was true with android
gingerbread
and icecream sandwitch in 2010 and 2011 but starting with jellybean in
2012
android accessibility began to greatly catch up with IOS. These days its
just as good as apple stuff, but without the high development costs of
apple. I had a tablet running on 4.1 jellybean and it worked fine. My
android marshmallow tablet is better than that one and I'm sure android
nougat and the later oreo will be even better. but not really because
everything in android is an app. so i get webview virtual web buffer
updates
and talkback updates and accessibility API updates even though my
devices
may still be on android marshmallow and lollipop.

Probably useful to keep in mind, carriers update operating systems
rarely if ever in many cases. Blind people tend to hold onto devices
longer than the sighted population. Combine those two factors with
questionable accessibility on earlier operating systems and that story
does not end well. One useful android survey of the accessibility-user
community would be to find the percentages of users with each of the
loosely accessible operating system versions, their carriers, and the
length of time they've had that device.

I say hey I wouldn't even bother with trying to convince him to
develop for android. He has stated why he didn't want to and all bla
bla. Those that use Android have done just fine with out the games and
I am sure will continue to do just fine. It annoys me that people like
to talk major crap about android being inaccessible but I know better
so I don't bother. Apple has it's problems but that doesn't stop most
from going nuts over it. If you know of some Devs that wish to develop
games for Android, my advice to you is to reach out to them and see
what happens. Stop trying to beat a dead horse about getting blind
fold games on android, Hell if they don't figure something out they
might be history on IOS as well.

oh and also tereesa, did you know you could sideload or install the google play
store onto your kindle device? if its a kindle tablet like kindle fire tablet?
and once the play store is on your kindle device you'll have two app stores.
and from the play store then you could play the blindfold games on your kindle
once the play store is installed.

hi tereesa, did you know that your kindle is actually a slightly
modified android? in fact all kindles are just amazon's own take on
android. so by using a kindle, you are already using well amazon's android.

Okay seriously. I haven’t chimed in until now, but…
I’m really tired of the multiple messages saying the same thing. Also getting
annoyed with the forwards from other lists about essentially the same topic.
If you feel that Marty should invest time in to Android versions of his games,
then please email him off list.
Enough is enough already.
