Re: [BlindHandyMan] water pressure low in shower?
That knob you turn to get the shower head spraying water is the problem. it never was the head at all. Remove that knob and take the whole thing to hardware store. They can match you up with what you need and only what you need. When it comes to water parts size is important and they can't guess there or you get more trips back and nothing that works right. At 07:52 AM 8/28/2010, you wrote: Hey all, ok so i got a new head and its not the head. The pressure remains the same and most of the water is still coming out from the bottom. So what is the valve that i need to change and how do i go about doing that? The place where you turn on the shower is just a knob by itself that you have to turn. Everything on my shower is separate. Thanks. Those are about the only internals I hear working good. But, that only goes to Apple and using good parts. They do have some flaws but they will stand behind there product. Sure the signal is not 100%, but it was not even with the Linksys that has external antennas. Re: [BlindHandyMan] Keyless Entry Lock?
The type we have at work uses a credit card shape about 1/8in thick. It only lets you in the doors you are authorized to get in. So my card works on 2 doors in the whole building. You just hold it up and the door goes beep, click and about 3 seconds it clicks locked. The only other way in is breaking the glass in the door, and that would set off alarms and send cops. Re: [BlindHandyMan] Wireless video transmission.
haven't heard of any video wireless rigs, only audio. So think you just might have to go hard wire to it and control it wireless with keyboard or even now some remotes. My mac book is able to do remote and the air ex stream router by apple can do hard wire audio to any speaker setup. Soo, I want to connect the laptop's video out, to the TVs video in. and I want to do it wirelessly. The alternative is to hard connect the laptop to the TV and stereo, and then control the laptop wirelessly. To be honest, that sounds like a better deal anyway. Using a netbook instead of a laptop is fine, as long as the netbook has decent enough graphics capabilities to drive a good image on the TV. Scott, Just jabbing at you with the Mac stuff. I just purchased an IPhone for my wife, and have been learning how to use it with VoiceOver. I have used Windows machines for work for about 15 years now, although, most of my work is actually done on unix and linux boxes. It will be very difficult for me to ever shift to a mac. One of the issues I have with the mac platform right now, is that from what I can tell, VoiceOver either works, or it doesn't, and there isn't anything you can do to make it work better for a misbehaved program. I have invested a lot of time in writing scripts, and tweeking JAWS to make it play nice with programs that it doesn't play nicely with out of the box. A perfect example of this was ITunes, before the latest version. I think it was inaccessible to mac users, completely. It was inaccessible to JAWS users out of the box, except that you could get scripts for JAWS that made it usable. Having said that, I do know that Apple has done an excellent job of making it comparatively simple for developers to make the apps accessible right out of the box. OK, I've strayed way off topic for the list, so will not comment any further. -- Blue skies. Dan Rossi Carnegie Mellon University. Where you chose to keep it as long as its out of what ever traffic goes that way would be just fine. like bob said keep a tarp on it when not in use and make sure its cold when you cover it up. That way you don't have those fumes you are thinking of. I tested it yesterday and things worked fine, it runs off an engine with a cast iron block, so it's not nearly as noisy as I expected. Our house has a set of steap concrete stairs leading from the backyard down to a foyer with a door into the basement. This foyer is sheltered, and there's actually a sort of awning or canapee that prevents water from running down into it. There happens to be a cat door in the connecting door, so my plan is to run the generator in that outdoor foyer, run the cables through the cat door and inhabit the basement if things get dicey. So, my question is this: Can I store a generator like this over the long term in the kind of sheltered foyer I've described? I could conceivably, easily enough wheel the thing on a hand truck and keep it in the basement proper and move it when I need to, but I'm superstitious about having four or so gallons of gas stored right under the living room. Would you guys suggest running this every month or so? Thanks for any ideas on this one. Wireless Internet runs at 2.4ghzt witch a lot of the old cordless phones use. The old phones boosted the transmission on the base. So that they could say our phone goes further down the road. The problem with this was now everybody had some type of phone and splash over was rapid. When i put another hot water tank in. i plumbed it the right way, and every line in the house got good pressure from hot. Now who would figure out of three hot lines only one would dribble. Now I haven't gone to look at this because apparently my cousin's husband is a plumber, but it is unlikely he'll get to it any time soon. So, of course I'm really curious about the problem. The house is one level on a slab and a year or two back she had a humidifier installed, which she seems to think is the problem, but I doubt this, unless they installed a valve in the line that could interrupt the flow of water to that bathroom, but then there just wouldn't be any water at all if the valve was closed. So, surely it can't be a valve issue because again, if the valve anywhere in the line was closed, then you would have no water flow. My uncle who was a plumber mainly doing sprinkler systems for commercial buildings etc. wasn't even sure what the problem may be. So, I thought I'd toss the idea at you good people and see what ideas may flow. Re: [BlindHandyMan] Wireless Network Connection Unavailable?
part of that problem is the computer. They will hold the last ip acquired until released. if the router gets no release then it can not reassign that ip to another computer. Now if you do a power cycle it might release that ip, but most likely not. The one way it will release that ip is on a factory reset. But, that will reset all, and for those using linksys routers. unless they change with the newer models. Will lose the wireless settings. The routers verizon uses are built with wireless ready and a default ssid and wep key setup. At 09:29 AM 9/2/2009, you wrote: Trouble, Since I was the one who mentioned the IP issue with the router, I will respond. I didn't quite understand your point below, so please explain. My router hands out IP addresses to computers in my home network, like you said below, it hands them out from it's dhcp table. For me, I only allow a small range of IP addresses to be handed out. It seems that when one of the machines in my home network disconnect, the IP address that it had been using doesn't get cycled back into the pool of available addresses in the dhcp table. On my brother's 2006 Volvo simi. The key is like the old ford style, but instead of tumbler cuts its just flat rectangle with embedded chips. Just wave the keys near the door and they unlock. GM for years used the VATS ignition system. The key had a resister on the metal of the key and the decoder in the switch got a signal from the computer telling it whether the resistance of your key was the same on record in the computer. I spent a good bit of time learning how to defeat that system last summer. But for those that have the key, that's a very vague idea of how it works. Re: [BlindHandyMan] Woes of waste - the crapper crisis
There could be something in the trap from past owners, and sounds like the tank flapper may need replaced. i wouldn't trash the whole thing yet. unbolting it from the floor will give you a idea of the trap. Run a snake down through it and see if it hits anything. if that is all cleaned out the only thing your out is a wax ring to reseal. The flapper is also a cheap fix. At 06:18 AM 7/6/2009, you wrote: Ok, now there's a subject line that grabbed your attention. smily Here's the deal and no it isn't a crisis as far as an emergency, but it will eventually have a greater affect on my water usage, which of course affects the bill. Let me see if I can explain the problem as concisely as best I can. This is a name-brand ttwelet, which doesn't matter perhaps, but just want to point out that this isn't the super cheap model and this was installed by a previous owner. WIth all that said here is what the issue is. It seems to take sometimes two or three flushes to get all the contents down the line as it were. It never fills to a point where it will overflow, but what seems to happen is as the contents go down the drain, you don't get the normal sound a twelet makes at the end of the flush cycle. It doesn't do anything and a repeated flush will eventually produce that sound of successful flush cycle. In addition, once the twelet fills, and the valve closes, it sounds as though water is running out of the twelet. To further explain this point, it is as though once it stops filling, water is leaking internally out of the bowl as though water is leaving the trap. THe closest sound that might help make this point is when a tworlet is clogged, fills, and you hear water trickling through the trap, it is sort of like that sound. Now to further carry this point, if I poor water into the bowl, I can cause the same sound and what I have been told is that it is possible there is a defect in the trap. THis defect could actually be causing two issues. One the sound of the water flowing through the trap that normally would be very hard to hear is easier to hear because of the defect and this defect could also cause contents to have difficulty moving through the trap. SO, I guess my question is does that make sense? Sounds reasonable, but I'd like to get some other opinions before I go out and replace this thing. I would not consider replacing it since there is nothing wrong with it, but the fact that at times it takes two to three flushes for proper operation, it will in time become an expense. Any thoughts appreciated. Tim trouble Verizon FIOS support tech Never offend people with style when you can offend them with substance. --Sam Brown Blindeudora list owner. Re: [BlindHandyMan] extending air conditioner exhaust hose?
Got a Royal Sovereign portable a/c here. it has a 6 foot expandable hose that hooks into a window vent. Without venting it will run and run, not good. it has a 3 gallon water tank and a evaporator coil in the tank to remove the water. Also has a vent plug to remove water if gets to full, but once in place. you won't get that much water. The unit is about 2 1/2 feet tall, 1 1/2 feet wide and little over a foot deep. its on wheels and has handles to pull it around. Its also pretty quiet and also has auto shut off if gets to hot or to full of water. I believe this is the sort this fellow is talking about. Some even have bucketless water evaporation. Not sure how they work, I presume the water may be splashed over the heating coils where a lot of it evaporates and gets exhausted with the heat but I haven't really seen one of those units so I am just making that part up. I suspect there will be some loss of eficiency if the heat exhaust hose is extended very much because of the added resistance. Less air will exhaust and the unit won't cool as effectively. One presumes they are sufficiently heat protected to prevent the unit from failing should that happen. The manufacturere probably has specifications on maximum vent length. Re: [BlindHandyMan] help needed
you can take the tool they give and connect the laptop with ease, or you can go into the router and turn on encryption and right down the key it gives you. Then all you have to do is plug in the info when you click connect to the SSID that your router broadcasts. you will have to use a cable with the tool, but it does the connection very nice and in only a few minutes. it secures the router and sets up the wireless connection. Leave the trap in place. The top should come loose. It may take a little effort as most people glue them down with silicon caulk. Like I said if it is a cabinet just build up the wooden portion as much as you want then . Buy new supply lines and a longer or new tailpiece for the sink drain and reinstall the top and piping. If you have just a wall hung the pipes will be worked the same. The sink hangs on two brackets fastened to the wall. probe above these brackets after you have removed the sink to see if there is somethng to fasten the brackets to at the new height you wish to raise them to.. If there is nothing higher then its tearing out drywall adding lumber etc. etc. etc. See why I siad the cabinet model was the easier. If there is solid lumber higher up then its a matter of raising the brackets and reinstalling sink and pipes. For large doors, skip the Z shaped bracing in favor of a double Z for each door. In other words, each door should utilize three 2-by-4 cross braces perpendicular to the fencing and two diagonal braces connecting them, with the fence boards driven into each brace they cross. Correctly constructing your support posts is also critical. You'll get more stability from 6-by-6 posts rather than 4-by-4's. Each post should be anchored with a concrete footing and be buried in the ground a third of its height. Plus, at the base of the two posts, install a horizontal post flush between the two, or use a poured bridge of concrete, to prevent the posts from pulling towards each other at the bottom, due to the weight of the gate doors. The salt will kill any weeds it hits, and won't do a thing to the dogs. All animals love salt licks. As far as the ants, they travel by leaving a sent trail. The salt is like death to them. It don't smell good or feel good to walk on. If you got a ant hill. Just pore some in the top at the hole, nothing will come out that way unless there truly stupid or last dyeing efforts. Re: [BlindHandyMan] question on interference form computers
The kvn shouldn't have a problem with that setup. however, if you think it is, unplug it and see if hum goes away. That will tell for sure if the laptop is doing it or the kvn. At 05:44 PM 3/2/2009, you wrote: Hey folks, I have a rather interesting problem that I hope is acceptable for the list. Let me explain my setup and then I'll explain the problem. I have a small mixer that has three or so inputs. I have my employer's Dell laptop, my Macintosh, and a cable into which I plug my electric bass. All this is served by one pair of headphones. Now in order to save on space and so forth, I have a usb KVM switch. servicing both computers. THis KVM only handles a keyboard and mouse, but you could connect video, which I do not. So, when I have the Mac and PC laptop connected and running, everything is fine. If I shut the laptop lid/ put it to sleep, but leave it connected, I get this humming noise that is not 60Mhz, but probably almost twice that. I can disconnect the laptop and then soud goes away or if I adjust the mixer controls just so, I can cancel out the sound. For some reason it sometimes gets messed up and that usually is because I have made a slight adjustment to something and then I have to start all over again isulating the sound by tweaking things. So, has anyone have any thoughts on how I might correct this problem, so I do not have to keeep messing with the controls? It could be the mixer, but I suspect there is an issue with both machines being connected to the KVM and this is a pretty cheap KVM. The KVM is not near the computers, it is under my desk. We had 20's on the truck and 30's on the revilla. used 100lbs on the gas grill, because we never moved it from the camp site. i even got some squat 15's for my fishing lanterns. as long as they are left and thread and use regulators. you can use just about any size gas pro pain tank you want that does the job. we had a saying for them, remember the left Lucy and righty tighty, pro pain is backwards! I do have two high quality Webber tanks, just not sure if I should follow through. --- Please visit my home page; it is motivational, inspirational and humorous with many resources for the blind. http://www.geocities.com/lenny_mchugh/http://www.geocities.com/lenny_mchugh/ Lenny Send any questions regarding list management to: mailto:blindhandyman-owner%40yahoogroups.comblindhandyman-ow...@yahoogroups.com To listen to the show archives go to link http://www.acbradio.org/pweb/index.php?module=pagemasterPAGE_user_op=view_pagePAGE_id=33MMN_position=47:29http://www.acbradio.org/pweb/index.php?module=pagemasterPAGE_user_op=view_pagePAGE_id=33MMN_position=47:29 Or ftp://ftp.acbradio.org/acbradio-archives/handyman/ftp://ftp.acbradio.org/acbradio-archives/handyman/ The Pod Cast address for the Blind Handy Man Show is. http://www.acbradio.org/news/xml/podcast.php?pgm=saturdayhttp://www.acbradio.org/news/xml/podcast.php?pgm=saturday Visit The Blind Handy Man Files Page To Review Contributions From Various List Members At The Following address: http://www.jaws-users.com/JAWS/handyman/http://www.jaws-users.com/JAWS/handyman/ Visit the archives page at the following address http://www.mail-archive.com/blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com/http://www.mail-archive.com/blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com/ If you would like to join the JAWS Users List, then visit the following address for more information: http://www.jaws-users.com/http://www.jaws-users.com/ For a complete list of email commands pertaining to the Blind Handy Man list just send a blank message to: mailto:blindhandyman-help%40yahoogroups.comYahooblindhandyman-h...@yahoogroups.comyahoo! I only have the modem that does have three wires, one that goes to the phone, one that goes to the cable coming into the house, and a power cord. I suppose one would have to design it since I don't know how many appliances allow for mounting in this fashion, but its worth a thought. Another thought might be something like the contraption that they use for sewing machines, where you raise the machine up when you want to use it and turn it down whenits not in use thus giving you the flat surface for other uses. - Original Message - From: Dale Leavens To: mailto:blindhandyman%40yahoogroups.comblindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sunday, January 11, 2009 9:16 AM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] Kitchen Remodel and Kitchen Aid cabinet Good morning Betsy, My sister had a device in one of her kitchens which sounds something like what you want. It was a platform, in this case probably 16 by 12 inches mounted on a series of levers and springs not unlike those you might see for supporting a computer keyboard under a work surface. You open the cupboard door and this thing swings out and up on the levers and counterbalancing springs until it came up level with the counter top. I suppose it would serve the purpose you had in mind. This device was in her kitchen and she never liked it because it used up the entire cupboard cavity and she didn't have the sort of device she would want to put there. At the time it never occurred to me that it might serve home for a big mixer, I never tested it to determine if it might carry anything that heavy. One concern I would have is that door has to remain open while the platform is in use. I am pretty sure I would forget it being there and do myself an injury. Keeping something like a big mixer off of the surface when not in use though would be appealing, one only uses such a machine only occasionally, Few of us would use it even daily. - Original Message - From: Betsy Whitney To: blindhandyman-yahoogroups.com Sent: Sunday, January 11, 2009 1:14 AM Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Kitchen Remodel and Kitchen Aid cabinet Aloha All, I hear tell that there is a cabinet designed to hold a kitchenaid stand mixer. Re: [BlindHandyMan] sound card problem
Victor your problem with jaws is a known issue and jaws. if you plug any sound device in after the install of jaws. it will default to that device for output. the trick there is if running xp set the sound card in the jaws.ini file. For what ever sound card you want. if running vista, just set it in the playback options as the default. With lenny it could be loose plug ends. on board sound cards this can happen very easy. Just by plugging and unplugging the cables or by moving the cables around. To reset on board sound chips. You will have to do some soldering, and think it would be easier to just get a PCI sound card. They are cheap now and will give you better sound even without using your ram to do its work. At 08:31 PM 12/12/2008, you wrote: Hi Lenny, I also have had this problem, and have noticed that it only happens when I have my Skype phone attached to the USB port. What happens is I'll restart my system, then, for no apparent reason, the windows theme music will come on, but I wait and wait and wait, and no jaws. So, what I did was turn Narrator on, and discovered that Jaws was indeed working, but just wasn't speaking, or coming through the sound card. Once I shut down Jaws and restart it again, Jaws comes back without a hitch. Obviously, I use Narrator to help me unload Jaws, but once Jaws comes back, it's working fine, so I can then shut down Jaws. What I think may be the solution is to change the IRQ ports settings if you have anything else plugged into your computer. So, the question is, do you? Have something plugged into your computer, like a VOIP or Skype phone? Some other device that you use your ears with? Possible a USB microphone or something like that? Like I said, if that's the case, then you need to reassign the IRQ ports to another channel, because I think a conflict may be happening that is causing the external device to take over the sound, when it shouldn't be. Either way, if you don't have any external device plugged into your computer, then all of this is a moot point. Smile. Re: [BlindHandyMan] plumbing question and update

I do want to mention that the man does work two jobs and while he finally told the second job that he could really only work 15 to 20 hours a week, it was just in time because his primary job piled on a new project and he is putting in a bunch of extra hours. So once he has worked and all the travel time involved with that, met his basic needs, and spent a little face time with his kids, he has really more than used up his week. I just did not want you all to think my honey is a lazy bum, as he is really a good guy. :) So, first my question. They are going to take off the toilet and run the heavy duty snake that way tomorrow morning. Will we need to replace the wax seal or anything like that, or will it come off and all go back on if everything goes right? The second plan if this does not fix the problem is to use the snake down the line and a metal detector to find the line. A very clever idea given to us by a friend who used to work as a plumber many years ago. Because we have interesting friends, we have one coming over with his metal detector, but we are renting the snake. :) Our friend with the snake is also coming with a heavy duty ladder and they are prepared to go on the roof and clean the vent if needed. So, I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping. I will let you guys know how it goes, but I thought you all might find the snake and metal detector idea interesting too. Re: [BlindHandyMan] Re: microwave fixable?
you have to remove 6 star head cap screws on the back to remove the outer housing. I tried with mine and two of them was riveted in, so no go with the tools I got in house. At 09:08 PM 5/12/2008, you wrote: Hi Jennifer, Look for a panel, usually held to the microwave by a single screw, possibly two, either on the outside, closest to the controls, or, inside. Either way, this panel will screw up and provide you access to the microwave fuse to facilitate easy removal and replacement of the fuse when it blows. Worse case scenario, you'll have to remove the entire housing cover, which, obviously, has more screws involved, but still easy nonetheless. Remember to unplug the thing, as you can get a nasty surprise if you touch anywhere within that microwave where current flows, I know, I've done it. Smile. Look for a cylindrical object, about an inch long, and I guess you can describe it as a capital I. The ends will have metal caps to them, and the middle will be made of some type of clear substance, possibly glass, or fibre glass. This will be the fuse, and it's the only one in there, so pull it out, and, if you have the manual, take it and the fuse along with you to the hardware store, or where ever you intend on purchasing the microwave fuse from, and let them look for the fuse number so they can give you the right fuse. I can't remember whether you said your husband was sighted or not, but if he is, he can look up that information in the manual. If he's blind, like I said, unless you've got the manual in digital format, you'll have to take it along with you to the store. Once back with the new fuse, it really doesn't matter which end is up with the fuse, you just snap it into place, place and screw the cover back on, and plug it in. If I'm not mistaken you should be able to see whether you've installed the fuse properly or not, as the microwave will not talk otherwise. Hope you get it fixed. Re: [BlindHandyMan] Hear It Coming, Before It Knocks You Over.
you would think they could find a issue that is more forth coming then a handful of cars. When I see or hear more of them on the road then mini vans. i will take notice, but for now i just go with traffic like everyone else. A bigger issue is identification of money, witch they stepped away from, Better transportation within town and cities, and more education for the public that thinks helpless still spells blind. Members of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) will testify before the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee regarding the extreme danger silent hybrid cars pose to the blind, as well as other pedestrians, cyclists, and small children. Date: February 19, 2008 Time: 1:00 p.m. Location: Miller Senate Office Building, Room 2 East Annapolis, Maryland 21401 When compared to vehicles using traditional combustion engines, hybrid vehicles are virtually silent when accelerating and decelerating, making it impossible for blind individuals to detect their presence. To address this problem, Senator Norman Stone has introduced Senate Bill 276. If passed, the bill will establish a task force to make recommendations regarding a minimum sound standard for all new vehicles sold and licensed in Maryland. About the National Federation of the Blind With more than 50,000 members, the National Federation of the Blind is the largest and most influential membership organization of blind people in the United States. The NFB improves blind people's lives through advocacy, education, research, technology, and programs encouraging independence and self-confidence. It is the leading force in the blindness field today and the voice of the nation's blind. In January 2004 the NFB opened the National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute, the first research and training center in the United States for the blind led by the blind. Re: [BlindHandyMan] ultrasonic cane?
You don't need the brain of a bat to do sonar. All you need is the right training. navy subs don't see where they are going under water. that job is left to the sonar operator. So the knowledge is there, but the device to do such with is not up to a good quality yet. Just like GPS it can put you on a pin point, but that kind of accuracy is reserved for military usage only. The devices for public are anywhere from 3 to 6 meters off. At 04:13 PM 2/19/2008, you wrote: All the limited info on the batforblind site leads me to believe this is the latest implementation of Dr. Lesley Kay's ultrasonic devices which he's been promoting with limited success for nearly 40 years. The real questions rremain, how much noise interference are willing to put up with in traveling to get information that you can't do much about. All the garbage about seeinng like a dolphin or a bat is mumbojumbo as those beasties have large portions of brain made just to interpret the ultrasonic return data and we don't. I don't think this thing is on the cane, even Dr. Kay should know better than that. Many of his devices were worn like glasses and some wher hand held. The arguments about the ultimate usefullness of such devices need to be had after considerable experience, which I've had! and over a coffee or a beer. not on this list. I note AFB tried to sell some version of the Kay device for a couple years and it is on there latest clearance at reduced price list thus implying nobody wants them for real. Re: [BlindHandyMan] Why Use a Long Cane
Not in this city. They go closer to you with a Cain then with a dog. Most of the people here are afraid of big dogs. At 04:23 PM 2/9/2008, you wrote: I still prefer a dog. You can get lost with both but you look pretty stupid talking to your cane. And people are quicker to approach you with a dog over a can of any length. - Original Message - From: Ray Boyce To: mailto:blindhandyman%40yahoogroups.comblindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Saturday, February 09, 2008 3:03 PM Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Why Use a Long Cane Why use a long cane? Safety A long cane helps the user to detect obstacles and hazards, drop-offs, ground level changes and stairs in the path of travel. Information A long cane provides information from the environment that assists orientation, such as tactual feedback. For example, the cane user can detect changes in surface textures between grass and concrete to follow a footpath. Confidence Many cane users experience an increase in confidence because they hesitate less about the safety of the next step. Posture A long cane improves the user's posture, because they don't need to feel the ground with their feet while travelling or walk with the head down to check the surface directly at their feet. Identification As most canes are coloured white with a red tip, they indicate to drivers and other pedestrians that the cane user may be unable to see objects or other people. What are the long cane techniques? As there are various cane techniques, our instructors help people with vision impairment to learn the right techniques based on their individual needs, ability and living environment. The duration of training will vary depending on these factors, and training takes place in the person's own living environment. The most commonly used techniques are: . Diagonal technique: The cane is held in front, and slightly diagonally across the body. The tip is in contact with the ground or just above. This technique can be used in familiar controlled environments, or by those with low vision. . Touch technique: The cane tip is arced from side to side. When the left foot steps forward the cane sweeps to the right, and when the right foot steps forward the cane sweeps to the left. This technique allows safe travel in all environments by clearing the area for each step before it's taken. . Constant contact technique: The cane is held in front and sweeps from side to side. The tip remains in contact with the ground. This technique is a variation of the touch technique, and allows for earlier detection of drop-offs and changes in the footpath. . Shoreline technique: The cane is used to follow a line such as a wall, a fence or the edge of a footpath. On the Stairs A long cane allows people to locate and safely ascend and descend stairs. After making contact with the stairs, the person uses the cane to check the step width and height, and then proceeds with the cane always one step ahead of the footstep. Using Public Transport At train stations, the platform edge is located using the constant contact technique. When entering the train, the cane user listens for the opening door and people entering and exiting the carriage. They then use the shoreline technique along the train to locate the doorway. When exiting the train, the person uses the cane to determine the gap width and height between the carriage and platform. What are the different cane tips? Different tips are used, depending on the preference of the cane user. The rural tip is usually preferred over the pencil tip because it has more ground surface contact, so it's easier to detect textures and doesn't get caught easily on uneven surfaces. The roller tip is popular with clients who prefer to use the constant contact technique, and the jumbo roller tip is particularly popular with bushwalkers. I hope this article helps you in getting around safely. Re: [BlindHandyMan] What Is Septic System Failure?
What your describing is a leach bed system. Witch I use to install with every tank. Just for the reasons you stated. At 06:18 AM 1/12/2008, you wrote: For those still using septic tanks another suggestion is to reroute drainage of water from kitchens sinks, washing machines and yes from bathroom showers/ baths to a seperate drainage field away from the septic tank. of course this can only work if you have good drainage in that particular area.. this can be down in a few ways. the simplest being a straight pipe out from the house at least 75 feet. that pipe needs to be after the first 25 feet the kind with many holes in it. . also I helped out on a new construction with making that seperate line with branch lines so there is no way one would overload that original drain line. this so called gray water drainage line can be of great benefit in growing thick green grass, if installed correctly. just a fyi on getting rid of excess gray water.
