Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] CUCM GK Port Number

2013-06-13 Thread Martin Sloan
Thanks, Josh. I was getting caught up because the signaling ports in the
output provided in the task were in the ephemeral range but the task said
that port matching was a requirement. Based on the feedback here, I think
the screen shot in the task was not right and was supposed to show the
ports as 1720. If that was the case, I'd update the service parameter for
the gk trunk, but It seems I can't force a match on the ports that were
provided in the task.

Thanks all for the help.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] CUCM GK Port Number

2013-06-13 Thread Josh Petro
Hi Marty
Bill and Justin are correct in that you can change the port number in the
CUCM and the Gateway to reflect the signaling port (first port) The RAS
port (second port listed on the line) will be in the ephemeral range. The
ephemeral port range can't be changed on the CUCM as far as I know. I also
remember Vic talking about that in a VOD in volume 1 (its in the
4.6 gatekeeper section).

2013-06-13 Thread Josh Petro
Also, I know replication is good in Karen's case, but just to quickly rule
out a replication error in a practice lab, you can always remove the sub
from the call manager group and see if the phone registers to the pub
(assuming Services are activated and up).

No unless you configure this system setting they will pick a random port.

This is as designed and the setting to 1720 was to make some firewall configs
easier as you now have a set port

To add to the other great ideas provided, I'd say if the phone is getting
an IP via DHCP try to visit the web interface for the phone and see if it

My take based upon the written requirements is that the screen shot is

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Phone not pick up TFTP or config from

2013-06-13 Thread Justin McIntyre
I seem to remember hitting an issue like this in the past before. In my case,
I did a factory reset. Hold # during power on, 123456789*0#and wait. Just
make sure that prior to doing this, you have troubleshot everything on the
network side first. Additionally, make sure you do have the dhcp and option
150 working correctly. I've heard horror stories of doing this to a phone and
it never coming back from the black screen so do some research on the subject
first. Again, in my case, phone went black for about 20 minutes and eventually
came back up, pulled down its config and registered. This is a quick stab at a
fix but if it were me, I would pull some traces first. When and if you take
your lab attempt, you will need to be comfortable with the various
troubleshooting procedures anyhow. Couple things to look at.

1.) Launch the RTMT and take a look at the TFTP counters. Verify or clear
the counters and then reset the phone. Does the counter increment? If it does
can you guarantee that it is this phone that is pulling the TFTP config down.

a. If you can verify TFTP is working, you may still have a DB
replication issue. Change the UCM group in the DP/phone to point at PUB first.
Reset phone and see if it registers. If it does, there's a chance (and with
this version of UCM a good one!!) that your DB is out of sync. (utils db
replication stop on sub, stop on pub and then Utils dbreplication force data
sync sub all, Vik has a really good write-up on this, search it out).

2.) try to delete the phone and make it a SIP phone. This will make it switch
firmware which may get it past the point of where it is getting stuck in the
registration process (assuming you don't have a DB issue). Then switch it back
to SCCP and go at it again. (however, I would try to verify if TFTP is working
or not first)

3.) There are also some SDI/SDL traces that you can pull to check the
registration process. (Personally I like to use wireshark for this)

4. ) if you want to use wire shark, there's a couple ways you can do it.

a. Span the port connected to your phone to the port connected to your
pc and monitor the traffic with wireshark (this depends on the switch that you
are using and obviously may vary in method If you are using proctor labs. If
you're using proctor labs, ssh into the OS of the tftp server and launch a file
capture and reset phone. Use RTMT to download the capture from the server and
open with wireshark). Do this on the subscriber too to check registration
process).

Note: spanning ports and vlans on a Cisco switch can be seriously detrimental
to the I/O of the device. Research it out a bit.

b. Turn on port mirroring in the phone. If the phone is in fact
taking the tftp config but just not registering with UCM, you may be able to
turn on Port mirroring/spanning in the phone config page and then connect your
pc to the "PC" port of the phone and turn on wire shark.

In my opinion, all of these are subjects and techniques that a CCIE should be
comfortable with, so don't be afraid to delve a little outside the workbooks to
practice something. Ultimately, this will make you more aware of exactly what
is happening with the phones/system rather than just figuring out how to
complete a particular section of a workbook.

Thanks,

Justin

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] CUCM GK Port Number

With regards to your service parameter. Just make sure that the name of your
trunk is listed in this service parameter. Then re-register your UCMs to the

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] BLUE Screen on SC Phones.

2013-06-13 Thread Michael.Sears
Karen,

I really can't explain it, technically I can't explain why this happens. My
screens on SC phones turned bright blue with no information and the phones were
registered. Finally, in desperation I tried changing the phones back to the
default background image and it worked.

I also put other background images on the phones and it worked also. Good Luck.

Karen,

I experienced the same thing when studying for the IE in my home lab. The
solution for me to get rid of the very blue screen was to check the background
image and revert to the standard image. Then my phones showed showed correct
information.

- any idea why the TFTP not get updated ?  i check the replication was good at
that time.

this never happen when i practice lab.

- what possibilities i need to check ?

Hey Karen,
Try upgrading or downgrading the phone firmware, then restart the tftp service.
If it still doesn't work, try to register this phone on another call manager..
If it still doesn't register, it might be because the phone is messed up
inside..
Are all the acting this way.. Which models are effected..

hi Bill,

yes, phone showing Registered in UCM (but the DN is not on the phone and blue
background screen only)
- model and firmware i think no issue, because when i swithback to DHCP from
UCM , it registered and get DN
- replication from reporting is good

Ok so the phone gets all the right info but just isn't getting registered? Or
is it registering and not getting a dn?

This seems sort of strange so I might look at replication and where you are
registering if the phones register.

I guess it also doesn't hurt to ask if you set the phones as the right model
and firmware?

Where are you getting your dhcp at sc?  If it is sc rtr then you could have it
right and just no access to CUCM

So try ping (CUCM ip) source vlan (voice #) and confirm the voice vlan has
connectivity to CUCM

Karen,
Check if your phone has an ITL/CTL installed. Erase them and see if the changes
take affect
Do you see the phone as registered in UCM  ?

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] LAB GRADED WITH ALL 0%.

2013-06-13 Thread Wilson Samuel (CCIE)
Hi Ravi,

As far as I know I think one is not allowed to do any physical alteration to
the lab devices, may be that made it go 0

However best would be to check on CIsco certification support forum and please
do share your findings as well

Regards
