Hello brothers,

I just like to let you know that my friend and study partner, Jeferson
Guardia CCIE #28157, has passed away yesterday.

He was a skateboarder and day before yesterday, he fell, hitting his head.
He didn't want to go to the hospital, because he thought he was ok.
According to his father he passed in his sleep due to a blood clot in his
brain. This is a tragic moment for all his family and friends.

I thought I should share this with you guys because he's been very active
here on the list, and we were studying together for the CCIE Voice. He was a
great motivator and helped me get out of my personal problems so I could
focus on my studies. It's sad how life is, and what shocks everybody the
most is that he was only 24 years old (soon to be 25 on March 20th).

Mourning, but still on the fight... =(

Subject: Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Lab Grading

Hey Thomas!

I am using the Device Based Approach by Matthew Berry. You can see it on
Youtube.

My strategy is as follows: I get one Lab from workbook 2 and start reading
it. Then I write down 1.1, 1.2 (not the requirements, just the numbers) and
so on, go straight to Call Routing and add all the strategic numbers (HQ,
BR1, BR2). A good thing is to make a chart, also by Matthew Berry and it is
also on Youtube, with your Call Routing requirements. I didn't take longer
than 8 minutes to do it all in all Workbook 2 Labs.

So I open my TextEdit, and start always with HQ. I read the exam and I go,
hm, it has NTP, so how does it want it configured..., and I put the
commands on TextEdit, not on the router. Then I keep going, DHCP it's on
CUCM so no IOS involved, so I keep going on the main topics... MGCP, SCCP
(in case of transcoders, CFBs, MTPs, etc), Controllers E1/T1, SRST, RSVP,
QoS. Not necessarily in that order, but you catch my drift... Then, all
commands are on TXT, I start pasting on the router by section, not at once.
After that I go to BR1, same thing with BR2. I read briefly what's asked of
me in terms of Call Routing that I know I will need to be doing in IOS. If I
don't do any Call Routing, I finish all the commands on the routers really
fast. Then I go to the Switch... Only then I start the software part CUCM,
CUC, CUPS, UCCX...

I don't use the top to bottom, left to right on CUCM. I think as you
research and go, you see that when you reach Device Pool on top to
bottom... approach, you see that you need to go back to it to add Media
Resources, let's say IOS CFB on HQ, that must be in a MRG, then MRGL. So, if
we are planning not to waste any minute going back, I think it is best to
add Gateways, then RGs, RLs, then Transcoders, CFBs, MTPs, then MRG, MRGLs,
AAR Groups (if any), and only then you do your top to bottom... approach.
I might be missing a few steps, but I am doing all this from the top of my
head. I have all notes at home. I have been there once (Cisco), so I know
what to expect to see. I know my exam will be completely different from the
one I got the first time, but the core is always the same.

We all are the same. We all had participation in projects, we all know what
commands to use to make MGCP work, SCCP, etc. So all the commands are the
same. Thinking about that, it is not different on the lab, you just have to
watch out for commands that might screw you up (like ccm-manager config
server). You will have plenty of time to test it after you configure CUCM,
and register your phones. And for that I use Device/Line Approach to build
my own Partitions, and CSSs.

I know some people won't agree with my strategy, but as you progress on
IPExpert labs you will start developing your own strategy. That works for
me... I hope it helps... Develop your own methodology and stick with it. You
can improve it as you go. You will start realizing that you can do some
things ahead and things you can leave for later.

I am still studying and improving my time and precision. I suggest Workbook
2 Labs 5 and later. They have the complexity you need to start realizing
what you can improve and whatnot. I recommend Workbook 1 so you can learn
the technologies. I did over 9 Lab sessions only for Lab 5A, B and C. A good
thing to make it stick in your head is to do it at work, if you are
responsible for voice, that is. Since I am responsible for voice, I am also
doing a lot of what I learn with IPE and INE here.

:) Wrote too much... Lol

Hi Ken,

Whatever I had sent across in my email is verified. The theory is vast with
respect to NTP and the rest of the time zone stuff, but the configuration
which I had sent across works as required for the exam.

The lab is a test of how much you know with respect to NTP etc, and not
whether you are aware of the different time zones all over the world and the
date when DST is active etc. For that, a Geography test would be more
appropriate (and there is no way I would be taking THAT test again) ;) :)

On Fri, Sep 9, 2011 at 6:35 PM, Ken Wyan kew...@gmail.com wrote:

Dear Kshitiji,

Earlier I also thought your same way after referring to cisco docs for NTP.

But when we check time zones available in CUCM Date/Time groups ; some of
the non-US locations have daylight saving times. Eg: North Asia East
Standard / Daylight time ( GMT + 08:00 ). Therefore CUCM has pre-defined
location based timezones ( DST for non US as well ).

Routers don't have such pre-defined time zones. PST EST PDT are just labels
only. if we put clock summer-time command clock goes one hour ahead during
US DST period. Obviously DST start end dates differ in different locations
in the world .(even same standard timezone can have different DST start
end dates based on country ; then how does Router determine DST start end
date from offset we configure in clock-timezone command?)

Some previous posts suggested to match router time with phone time (CUCM
time) by putting or not putting summer-time command (in Router - Trial
error). But this will not help if we are outside Routers DST window , but
inside CUCM DST window.

Below cisco docs confirm that clock summer-time can be used for US without
start end dates.

Anybody has more verified details on this?

To configure summer time (daylight savings time) in areas where it starts

to go back to the login page. **

Am I supposed to setup an AXL user on UCCX box? I'm confused and don't know
that much about UCCX and would really like to get it going.

I setup an AXL user in Publisher. Am I supposed to configure an application
server? If so my options don't have UCCX. I must be missing a step here.
The server is up and I can RDP to it and also get a console to it from ESXi.
At no time during the install did it ask me for the publisher address. I
also have AXL services on the Publisher and Subscriber enabled and Standard
CTI Enable. I use the admin and it's password since it already has AXL and
CTI Standard Enable.

What am I missing here, I know its something stupid I didn't do, but can't
figure out what.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] [CME-DHCP PROBLEM]

2011-07-31 Thread Thomas Koch
Mike,

Try this..I was doing a deployment in Bogota and I came up with this idea

Create a second DHCP pool with the data VLAN IP addresses

Add the helper address to data VLAN

Remove the voice VLAN from the phone switch port; make sure the data VLAN is
assigned to the port.

Reset the phone

Show CDP neigh detail.you should see the phone with the new data VLAN IP
address.

I had to prove to the client that the their DC server was toast..

Hope this helps..

I was tearing my hair out on Friday afternoon.but we got it..the client had
to reboot the DHCP server.LOL

Can't do a hard reset on phones - working remotely. I agree with you the
phones are holding onto an IP address and won't let go. I've just been
trying to figure out a way to get them to release and renew by shuting down
the switch ports and turning them back up, but obviously that's not working.
Thanks. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

hello guys,

My 2 year journey just came to an end. I took my 3rd attempt yesterday in
San Jose and i just got my score 5 mins ago with good news
I'm CCIE # 29606
It was long hours of study time and lab time
I couldn't afford a home lab so all i did is rent equipment from Proctorlabs
i was able to get physical phones to test. which was pretty good

my strategy was a bit different from what people usually recommend

I started with Infrastructure of course
switch config all that needed to be done in the switch including QoS, so i
could forget about that device
then i moved to HQ, SiteB and SiteC NTP, vlans, and then QoS right away
after that i started working on CUE (because i know it takes long time)
then i moved to PRI configs
then i started working on configuring my phones, basic config
then i moved over to VM, then UCCX, then all the features requested
and at the end i did call routing

something that actually helped me out a lot to improve my speed was
i created my configs in notepad and i called those my templates, so during
the week i didn't have access to any rack rental sessions so i was
practicing in notepad

i did the workbooks 1 and 2 only once then i was using the rack rental
sessions to practice pretty heavily on a tech basis everthing from inside
out and every once in a while start adding more technologies

that was my experience i didn't know how to approach this beast at the
beginning I was reading all the documentation all the pdf's and books and i
was getting bored
so i dediced to read all the documentation, pdf's and books on a technology
basis i printed a calendar and with the blue print on the other hand i
marked which days i was going to spend studying X item on the blue print so
by the time it was the weekend i could practice that in my lab sessions
during the weekend and get as much as i could from the rack rental sessions

thank you very much for all your support and also for my study partners from
all over the world
I'll try to help you to get your number as well, you guys helped me, i'm
going to try to do the same

have a great day !

Power for all of these devices are an issue.

I have (4) DL380's G4.they consume a LOT of power..

I spin them up as necessary..I run VMWare ESXi on all 4 boxes..they are Dual

Agreed with Mark. Don't spend too much on server.

I have a single CPU HP desktop with 8G RAM, 500GB HD, and single NIC.

Vmware ESXi 4.0 with all CM, UC, PRESENCE, and UCCX on it.

journey. (don't know what will be the next but I wouldn't do another CCIE
so far ;-)

I would like to thank IPExpert especially Vik Mahli and Amy Ryan for the
outstanding stuff they created to learn everything you need for CCIE Voice.

Their learning material is really challenging and makes you thinking about
it how all works together.

I can admit since I've learned with IPExpert I become a better engineer.
Thanks!

have anything to do with Amy Ryan leaving to work for Cisco. I wanted to go

As we can add only 5 directories at the most, I had to point some

Can this cause performance issues?

Has it imported any users yet? Usually when this doesn't work its either
because the LDAP User Search Base is wrong, which it doesn't warn you about,
or the Cisco DirSync service isn't activated. Also which it won't warn you
about. It will just sit there in either case and look like it is trying to
sync.

I could install ESX3.5 on the G4 and try that as well..

I've never tried setting up CUPS on ESXi 4 before. I use ESX 3.5 and
whenever I create the image for CUPS, I'm using the 32-bit Red Hat
Enterprise 4 option, 2GB RAM, and 80 GB hard drive (default SCSI type) and
it pretty much works flawlessly there. I've done this with both the base
install image of 7.0.2 and incorporating the 7.0.3 patch during installation
and each seem to work pretty well. Had been playing with 7.0.5 patch during
install, but reverted back to using 7.0.3 instead.

Has anyone run into an issue with installing CUPS on VMWare?

I'm installing CUPS on top of VMWare ESXi 4 on an HP DL380 G4 with 6 GB of
RAM and a 200GB of HD.

I did dual processors and dual 72 GB disks for the VM..I used the 64 bit

It blows up on the post install script for the DB.

Thanks.

Yes, I am referring to MRG that is there in the MRGL of the trunk.

Just check that you should not have a MTP allocated for that call from CCM
to CME.

You can verify by making a call and then check in RTMT that whether
Transcoder is being invoked or MTP.

After the OS is loaded and rebooted it will start the add new hardware

tools are installed the drivers get updated and the wizard goes away. Then
reboot again. Assign an IP to one NIC. Leave the second NIC disabled.
Install the UCCX IP IVR disc. That's it. You could install VNC if you want
instead of managing from the VMWare console. I'm sure other VM settings
combos might work but this has always worked for me.

Yes, I am referring to MRG that is there in the MRGL of the trunk.

Just check that you should not have a MTP allocated for that call from CCM to
CME.

You can verify by making a call and then check in RTMT that whether Transcoder
is being invoked or MTP.

Thanks IPExpert,

I just got the news that I PASSED the Lab yesterday. Pulled number 25730!!!

Everyone out there that is studying IPExpert Materials, keep on truckin',
you'll get your day.

I know everyone wants to know about preparation, well when you get to the
point of completing the Volume 2 labs in about 7 hours, you should be in
pretty good shape. Also, all I can say is, over 10,000 Cisco IP Phones
deployed, 26 CUCM Clusters deployed (version 3.3 through 7.1.3a), with Unity
(version 4.0 through 7.0), Unity Connections (1.2 through 7.1.3a), CUE (all
versions), IPCC/UCCX (version 4.0 through 7.0, Presence versions 7.0 and
7.1.3a), Emergency Responder (version 1.3 through 7.0), etc.Basically, I'm
saying you cannot beat real-world experience along with the excellent
practice labs from IPExpert. People have been saying for years that the Lab
was also so far out in the not Real-world land that it is unfair, well, I
can truthfully say that the Lab is not that far away from real-world now and
I personally think the two will completely intersect in the very near
future, especially with Fully compliant E.164 providers now on the scene.
For instance, I just turned up a SIP trunk with Level 3 communications that
sends all calling and called party numbers in + format and demands that
outbound calls do the same

Anyway, Thanks again IPExpert for the awesome training materials and
everyone, keep pounding away and you'll get a number too.

Thanks,

Interesting question here -
how much you paid for ccie-v certifcate or you plan to pay for?

Saw one post in cisco site, cost for CCVP vs. CCIE-V
CCIE-V cost $16K vs. CCVP only $750.
$16K is nearly 16 ounces gold, ie, around 1 pound gold.

Still wondering if such cost is valuable?

CCVP -
Took 8 months (study about 1hr every day, total around 240hrs) to clear
with 4.5yrs real work experience in CCM/VGW/Unity/IVR. No external/outside
training taken.
No even difficult compare to CCNP.
Cost is US$750.

CCIE Voice -
Took 12months to clear (study/lab like crazy - 14hr/per weekend day,
4~5hr/per weekday
and I still work full-time job, total tick in around 2200 hrs). 6yrs around
real work
experience on IPCC. Bought workbooks, took bootcamp, rented lab, bought home
lab and
trips to LAB sites. Total cost: 16,000

Ie,
CCVP vs. CCIE-V
cost: $750 vs. $16,000

Hi Norman,

I'm using a 3845, any newer IOS 12.4 version will do and you'll need some
T1/E1 ports to connect to the HQ/BR1/BR2 sites, you can probably use T1/E1
card so that you can switch between T1/E1 for flexibility. Then use IPExpert
provided PSTN config to work with their labs.

Subject: Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] V3 second attempt

Here are my experience and strategy of journey to my CCIE:

After passing the written exam last year in May, i wanted to schedule a
lab and was very suprised that the soonest date was in January 2009. So
i took my first lab on 14th of January. I started to learn in October
2008 with my lab at my office, which was: 8 7960, 3 2801, 1 2651XM, a
3750 as HQ-Switch, a 3550 as Branch-Switch, a VG248 and an ATA. Server
Software was running on a DL380G4 with VMWare Workstation. Here the
first advise: NEVER schedule a lab short time after Xmas. Your family
may accept that they don't see you a lot of time during your training,
but Xmas = no chance. :-)

During my training for attempt #1 Cisco announced that the new V3-lab
will start in July 2009. So with 8 months waiting time for a lab-seat,
my first attempt in v2 would be my last attempt in v2. So all or nothing.

I failed in January. I decided not to look every day if there my be a
free seat, because i just wanted to keep my level of training that high
with nearly no chance of a seat. So my first thought was, my project
CCIE will go on for me in 2010.

But then in May 2009 i purchased the BLS solution of IPX and decided to
take a lab after the big change, so i scheduled a seat in August. I
started to rebuild my office lab, i got some 7965s and 7962s and the NFR
package and started to install the application-server on 2 DL380 G4
running VMWare ESXi. I kicked the 2651XM out and got a 2821 instead. So
my lab was ready for V3. Then i took the first V3 attempt. I failed
again, but this time it was OK, because now i don't had to wait 8 months
again, it was easy to get a seat whenever i wanted. So i analysed my
attempt, and took my second and successful v3-attempt on 22nd of
October. The OEQ-part this time was harder for me than the first
v3-attempt, but then the lab was pretty cool. The next day i got my number!

Time strategy is one of the most crucial part of the lab. You need your
OWN strategy. I have read a lot of postings and websites about time
strategy. But my own time strategy was very unusual:
I am not very fast on the keyboard and on IOS my best friend is ? and
the TAB-key, even in the real lab. I practiced in my office lab the
configurations, so that i was able to do 95% of all configuration
without checking any documentation. I configured nothing in notepad,
everything was configured directly on router-prompt, with help of ? and
TAB. I configured the several sections as the appear in the workbook.
Yes, you read correct. Nothing with: Touch every equipment only once, or
sort by technology. I started with section 1 and ended with the last
section. And believe it or not: time was never an issue in my lab
attempts. At my last attempt i had 1,5 hours for troubleshooting and 1,5
hours left for testing/checking the sections.

Training-sources: The common SRNDs, and for V3 the IPX-BLS, especially
the VOL 2 Labs, and my first V3-attempt. Yes, folks, it is OK to fail,
if you analyse your attempt inside out and learn what your weak topics
are and what topics are OK. You must know everything what has not worked
in your failed attempt and and you must learn in your lab how it is
working. Don't make the same mistakes twice.

HTH,

Phil G

There is a lot you can probably learn using the older equipment, but at some
point there will be features which are only available in 12.4(20)T and
higher. For instance, CME 7.0.1 which is used in the lab, is only available
in 12.4(20)T. The 1700s and 3700s can only go up to 12.4(15)T. If you are
on a budget, you can study the majority of the core topics using the older
gear and then supplement with rack rental time.

I noticed that Proctor Labs recommends a 2800 or 3800 series router for
connecting to the voice racks. I'm wondering if there's any reason we can't
use a 1700 or 3700 series router.

Are there any hardware limitations with the older routers that would make
them obsolete for the voice racks?

I have access to older 1700 and 3700 series routers and I'd love to avoid

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Electronic Readers

2009-10-05 Thread Thomas Koch
Can't address the issue with the Kindle..
But it did try a PDF reader on my BB and as far as Cisco PDF's will all of
the technical drawings, they did not work that well.
Since I usually have to lug a laptop, I just use the PDF reader and have an
account on Safari press. It beats dragging around 50 Lbs. of books.

I have a Kindle and have purchased a few Cisco Press books.
Ultimately, I prefer the printed book for technical material. A
couple of issues -

1 - Navigation is pretty slow if you want to skip around. The Kindle
does not use sequential page numbers. There is not a side-bar table
of contents, like you have in Acrobat.
2 - In some cases the graphics don't display well. You may have to
zoom in and physically turn the Kindle. I don't think the Kindle is
wide enough for some graphics.
3 - Search. I haven't checked since the last software update but I
don't recall a Google-like search function.
4 - PDF conversion. The conversion isn't always accurate. I don't
think I've ever been able to use a PDF on the Kindle due to formatting
and graphics issues.

I think the Kindle is great for books without graphics that you
typically read cover to cover. It's not as useful for technical
titles. The Kindle DX seems to be better in theory but they really
need to update the UI.

Try Googling the Kindle project with universities this year. They are
trying to offer a book-less solution for college students. So far,
some of the feedback has been discouraging.

Once Apple releases a tablet, I think the situation will improve
dramatically.

I'd like the lists input on that as well. I think an e-reader would

2009-10-05 Thread Thomas Koch
Ok.One question for the Kindle DX .

Are all of the Cisco Press books available for the Kindle?

The $500.00 price tag is a little steep. With all of the netbooks out now,
that seems almost nuts.

One of the students at the bootcamp last month had a Kindle DX and I asked
him if I could have a look at it. I have to say it was pretty sweet. The DX
is the larger version that doesn't require any PDF conversion. All of the
Cisco Doc PDFs looked great in either portrait or landscape. The page
refresh was a little bit slow, but to me it beats a laptop hands down for
convenience.

So far the only thing stopping me is the $500 price tag :-)

2009-09-29 Thread Thomas Koch
Matthew,

Is this a technical interview?

Just focus on your experiences and what you have accomplished in your
career. As far as Cisco voice, you want to go over the solutions that you've
designed and implemented and if you've had to support them as well.and how
they have benefited you end users/customers.

Best of luck man.

That's slick.I wish that was an option about 2 years ago when we did our

I ended up with (2) 3845's fully decked out.plus an Adtran M13 mux.

Ok, so I am reviewing the interoperability guide and on page 15 I see that a
3845 can handle 450 DS0s (18.75 DS1s) at 75-percent platform CPU usage.
However, isn't a T3 672 DS0s? If that's the case, I don't see any ISRs that
should be able to support a T3. Of course, I think I'm wrong in that
assumption because Cisco makes a T3/E3 NM and the website says that a 3845
can handle two of those modules.

Thoughts?

Please take up the refund issue with IPExpert.this is not the proper forum.

I've been in IT for 20 years..I've seen training classes get canceled all
of the time.I had a CVP class about a year ago get canceled about 3 days
before the class was schedule to start.Training providers are not going to
conduct a class with 1-2 students. It's not cost effective. They have to pay
the instructors and would like to make a profit as well.

Michael is correct; Boot camps are not the magic bullet to pass a lab or a
cert. They reinforce what knowledge that you have and help you build on it.

Seat the lab in Dec. and take that experience and use it to better yourself.
or just reschedule the CCIE lab. I'm not sure what the real issue is?

how would you like that??.. what if u didnt have time to wait for one

Sorry, the CCIE is not college. Go to class, study and you WILL graduate.
There is no formula. Save the vclass for when you have time to study and
you think you are prepared enough to take it and get the most out of it.

By the way, how much more money was that new company going to give you for

To me the one-week lab experience is (was) mostly a guage to see how ready I

I've been on both sides of the fence and I strongly urge you to engage you

expectations and there are no oh we don't support that configuration when

I *REALLY* recommend you either hire someone who knows callcenters or you
find and have your local Cisco office help you. I don't mind helping and
I'm sure others don't either, but we are not responsible for misconfigured
parts, wrong parts called out, parts that changed, licenses that got missed
because you missed a customer requirement or didn't know what requirements
to ask the custoer, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc and etc.

That spreadsheet IS only available to partners. Curious if you have access
to it.

The first thing I do when one of our sales people says I have this easy
CallCenter opportunity, they only need to do. I say Waiit., It's
NEVER that easy. Setup a meeting with them. 99% of the time during the
meeting, SOME requirement got missed that affected the parts list, price of
services, implementation plan, etc.

I know you want to do this on your own, but you will be doing yourself a
dis-service. It's not an elitist product, but it's not a commoditized
product that you open like a Christmas present, put the batteries in and
read the directions.

hello Arun,

you can use UCCX along with CME, since you need inbound and outbound call

programming in there, since UCCX does not offer you good reporting you need.

I'm already running CME 4.x (3825 Router) in my environment. Please let me

calls and play some welcome message when someone calls to this call center
so please let me know what all hardware/software do I need for this, its'

able to see how many calls are waiting and some good reporting feature.

I've some idea on Cisco Call Centre Express but really don't know what I

Unfortunately no. In fact the XLite SIP softphone can't do hardly anything
that a hardware SIP phone can do (softkeys, etc).

BTW - eBay typically has 7961's available for roughly 150USD. All you need
is 3 of those and 2 7960's for our labs.

OK, took v3 again in RTP today... finished 30 minutes early...

Well, not really... what happened was that I was doing some last
minute tweaking (just retesting stuff, cleaning up some config) and
some key huge point items stopped working... I undid what I did to
break stuff, got up and walked away... yes, there was 30 minutes on
the table, but it could have been the death of me...

Anyway, waiting on results I would like to claim optimism, as I
studied the crap out of my shortcomings last time, but I have done
this before where I walked out of a lab pretty confident to see zero
on sections I thought I aced... to be honest, I am like 85% sure I
 failed again.

As they all say, the test is fair, nothing out of left field, some
surprises on what was on there and what wasn't... there are some
sleazy traps, but if you have a clue, you will work around em pretty
 quick...

Took the first one in SJ, took this one in RTP... so, I can compare...

In SJ, the phones are nailed to the walls in the cubicle... in RTP,
they are on the desk (so you can flip em over and look at em...)...
not sure which I prefer... I kinda like throwing them at the wall...
But then again, in SJ, Ben Ng is sitting 4 feet from you, so, no
 intimidation there...

I saw the remnants of the old v2 labs sitting in RTP, still had phones
 and fax machines... looked abandoned...

Everything else I could say would be NDA... so, guys, do what you
always do, look for the flurry of questions on 'how do I in this
group or as veiled customer issues on Puck

As a joke, here are the four questions I would ask:

Why on this day are we limited on how we can dial? When on all other
days we can dial however we want?
Why on this day must we use frame-relay, when on all other days, all
 of our customers have MPLS?
Why on this day are we running unpatched, basically beta-versions of
CUCM, CUPS, CUCCX, when on other days we can install patches to get
 around bugs?
Why on this day do I have to fly all the way to Raleigh and start the
test at 7:15AM, when the guys who go to San Jose get to sleep in and
 take their test at 9:00?

Well, to be perfectly honest, my strategy was based on winging it...

I did the IP Expert stuff, have the full lab at the office (two 2821s,
a 3750 POE, DL 380 G3s and G4s with CUC on VMWare); 3725 for PSTN
emulation, term server... and 5 7965s and 4 7962s)

The key to my passing was two-fold... studying with the real gear with
real phones... nothing against proctor labs, but if you can't see the
phones you are calling, you can't be sure you are sending the right
info and the right transforms, etc are showing up...

If you want to know what is on the test, just look over the new
features in CUCM 7... make sure you know them... if you don't, you
can't pass.

There is some weird stuff on the test and some comically easy stuff...
just like every CCIE rack out there...

Biggest issue right now is that you need 7962/65 to keep up with the labs
such as Vol 1 and also to fully test. IPBlue is not out with a 7962/65
version yet so if I were just starting out I would probably at least invest
in a couple of these to help along the way.

All,

First - please do not e-mail or contact me in any way to ask for any further
information about the lab. I will NOT respond - you've been warned. I take
the NDA very seriously and will not violate it.

Second - a little background - this was my attempt #6 - twice on version 1,
three times on ver 2. I was not a big fan of V2, but that was my issue
apparently as other folks seemed to pass it just fine.

as to V3 -

I thought it was a very fair (and challenging) test of technical knowledge
of the UC7 software and hardware as listed on Cisco.com.

I thought the questions were very clearly written and the goals set out
attainable.

I think that Ben and his team did an OUTSTANDING job re-writing the lab and
I give them a standing ovation.

There were items on the lab that I did not expect to see and I did leave
some points on the table because I had not thoroughly enough prepared for
all aspects of all the solution components (my bad).

I did not get a personalized letter back from any of the proctors, just a
form letter congratulating me for passing - I guess that will have to do.

I want to thank IPExpert for the outstanding instruction and matrials and
all of the contributors to this forum for the support along the way.

Good luck to all - it is attainable, and worth it, even if you do have to go
back again and again.

Cheers!

I travel a lot so I do a LOT of studying in the car and on planes, waiting
in airports, etc. I like to load up my iPhone with MP3 recordings of study
material. With the IPExpert BLS this has been challenging. I know we get the
handful of audio files but I would really like to listen to the audio
portion of all the workbook videos, etc. I started to convert the video
files from the hard drive but I noticed there are duplicates and there isn't
a meaningful naming convention for me to sort them.

Is it at all possible to either: 1) export the audio from all the video
AND/OR 2) export all the videos in iPhone/portable format. While this second
option wouldn't necessarily be very 'viewable' it would at least facilitate
the audio in the car, which is my primary goal.

If neither of these are possible then a last resort would be to just have
the files named to match the content so I could bulk export them myself.

I would find this highly valuable!

Thanks,

Jason

If you have implemented CUPS, CUCM, CUCCX, etc, before you will have
NO problems with the open ended questions... the IPExpert questions
were orders of magnitude harder than the actual questions...

To give an example of the kind of question:

where would you go in CUCM to specify the default auto-reg phone
protocol...

Answer: Enterprise Parameters...

Seriously, it was that kind of difficulty (but not that question...)

The v2 exam, in the end, had become absurd. I remember when I was studying
for it that it felt like the v2 practical was testing the candidate on how
to take a test. The ATA focus was rediculous. An extrememly light argument
could be made for the 6608, but not the CatOS, sorry. When it was announced
that v3 would remove these pieces, it seemed like it was put together
reasonably and it was pushing the candidate toward mastery in areas of the
technology that were relevant. So far, it seems that what is left is an
exam that covers topics an expert really should know. Also, frankly, the
fact that the topology can be built completely in a home lab is a VERY big
deal (still expensive, but justifiable and will remain a lab that can be
used for years to come.) If Cisco's goal was to encourage the candidate to
master topics on a fundamental level, it feels like they're on the right
track by aligning these stars. Even when you fail the test, you feel that
whatever you learned is marketable in the real world and, therefore,
valuable to the professional.

I hope Cisco does not get carried away and makes changes before a year has
passed. It's a new exam and it takes time for people to study and work
through the technology that was initially announced, nevermind the time and
expense to IPexpert as a training partner.

Yea, no 6608 with the messed up QoS, no VG248 (easy, but end of sale for a

that were just PUZZLES just to make it harder and try to beat out all the
cheating sites. Seems today they are trying to get rid of said sites. The
open ended questions might get rid of those types of people who
concentrate on getting the configurations done and not studying the theory,
etc. So I hope you are right and the exam stays a breath of fresh air and a
test of knowledge and skill instead of putting a jig saw puzzle together.

Well, I appreciate the feedback. The V2 exam was renown for its
frustrations. I'm happy to hear that v3 is a test of knowledge and skill.
I decided to wait until V3 so that I didn't have to deal with studying
techniques that are irrelevant in the real world, like esoteric knowledge of
ATA hex code settings and CatOS. Where I live, only one shop still used
CatOS and last week they filed for bankruptcy. The 3750 as the HQ switch
was a godsend, I can afford to buy this thing and spend days learnining in
my home lab. V3's equipment changes were the smartest thing Cisco's done in
it's cert track.

I made a mistake that broke something and that is the primary reason I
didn't pass (no, I cannot tell you what the mistake was, or even what
was broken...).

I will say the exam was not what I expected (nope, can't tell you what
I expected it to be...)

I am retaking it 9/1 in RTP

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] PR labs scheduling

2009-07-23 Thread Thomas Koch
Gent's,

How the scheduling for the PR Voice labs?

I'm in the process of trying to decide whether I should invest in some lab
gear for my home office or spend the $ for the PR labs.

My biggest concern is that the time slots available. If you work a normal
job and get home at say 6:00 PM, how do you schedule that ?

Or, do you do a full 7.5 hr session on Saturday or Sunday.which, to me would
be the most popular and the hardest to get into..

Thoughts?

Thomas and All:

We just have to learn to not even acknowledge these kinds of useless posts.

We have tried several different ways to filter for these guys and it caused
more problems for legitimate users than it did good.

So rather than disrupt an otherwise great list we just ignore these guys and
block the email address of the day on the backside.
