A friend of mine flew from New Dehli to HK and passed.

He didn't say anything negative about the experience.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] 1:1 pre-lab class

2011-07-21 Thread indigoboy
LOL!

3:45 can easily be done with you know all the questions & answers AHEAD of
time.

At that point, you are just typing in commands like a monkey.

Monkey see, Monkey do.

What is funny/interesting is how the plan to cover 5 labs in 8 hours.
that would require doing each lab in 1.6 hours.

Now THAT is impressive! Even for a Monkey.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Memory for your VM & VMware follow up.

2011-07-21 Thread indigoboy
This seems like a doable solution. to dualboot from the bios.

In terms of quantifying the cost-benefit of going into a ESX environment,
what would you say the advantages are?

That is, in terms of speed, is it about 20% faster than a windows platform?

Just trying to put it in numbers to justify the extra work involved =)

Also, one advantage having my CUCM sit on top of windows is that I don't
need to hook up a monitor or keyboard to it.

I have it set to just boot up and run on VNC. Does ESX allow for any type of
remote desktop feature where I can bypass keyboard/mouse/monitor solution?

I know ESX would be the fastest but I'd like to be able to use the box for

That being said:
1) are drivers a pain to load on ESX?
2) is there a dual-boot option where I can boot ESX and Windows?

Last week, the Kingston's 4x 4gb were down to a record low $89 after rebate.

It sold out after two days but I would expect memory prices to keep falling
lower & lower.

On the other hand, I posted a question that has probably been answered
before but still up for debate:

Can anybody weigh in?

Which OS/VMware version combo is the fastest for CUCM?
32-bit Windows Server?

64-bit windows XP / Server / 7?

If 64-bit, which VMware combo?

I'm currently running workstation 6.5

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Problem with 7961

2011-07-10 Thread indigoboy
I had this problem once where my 7961 and 7970 would simply NOT work when I
issued not only the 1234567879*0# sequence, but also the 3491672850*# (to
this day, I still don't know what the difference between the two sequence
commands are..maybe someone can shed light).

I checked and rechecked all settings...other phones would register
fine...just not those two. What made it worse was that the other phones were
all 7960s.
I was convinced my G2 phones were the cause of the problem and that I had
bricked them.

For whatever reason, I simply changed CUCM images and everything worked.
Sometimes the CUCM is corrupt and isn't sending over the correct files or
newer files at startup.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] PHONE VIEW

2011-07-08 Thread indigoboy
Are you using phoneview to control all 3 sites?

Maybe you know more features than I do but I only use the phoneview to
control one site at a timemostly, whichever site the CME is on since
other remote-control software doesn't support CME very well.

My config is set up as is:
HQ & SB (CUCM) - berbee
SC (CME) - Phoneview

Just make sure you can ping all three sites from your PC to the same subnet
of your phones vlans.

If not, you will need to hook up extra nic cards from your PC or use the
USB-LAN card solution.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] CCIE Voice equipments

2011-02-18 Thread indigoboy
I'm sure this has been discussed. There is a cheap way, moderate and pricey.
This isn't the cheapest way but u won't compromise too much:

3x 2801 (R1, R2, PSTN)
1x 2821 (R3 with NM-CUE)

1x switch either 3500POE or 3550 if u have power cubes for all phones
(if u want cheap, u can have all phones plugged in with the 3 vlans.
However, I would recommend at least 1x etherswitch on SB or SC so u
can get used to the etherswitch modules. Normal lab will require 2x
etherswitch on both sites)

7x IP Phones
I would a get 2 G2 phones like a 7961, and the rest can be 7960s or
even IPblue softphones & CUCM communicator. I actually use CUCM comm
as my PSTN phone.

6x VWIC-MFT1 (need to be in pairs of 2 for each site back to the PSTN.
Optional 4xT1s and 2x E1s (but most pple feel it's not worth it for
two commands).

PVDM cards (This is where you can get creative in how cheap/expensive
u want. I know some pple who just do parts of the lab and share their
various PVDM chips. For example, don't have the MOH running while you
are doing various voicemail parts...that kinda stuff)

2 PCs for Servers: PUB, SUB, UNITY, UCCX & Presence can all be
found/downloaded on VMware. Just make sure you have enough RAM. The
PUB & Unity alone should be devoted 2Gigs of RAM each).

Oh.. and last but not least a Frame Relay interfaces & server. Some
pple use their PSTN to double up as the Frame Relay. For me, I
recycled my own 2524 and used the same old frame interfaces cards &
cables that run on the 2500s. Worked liked a charm.

1x2509 or 2511 as your access router and configure it for external telnet.
1x Remote Power Switch (This is optional of course but it allows me to
remotely turn on/off my racks. Just make sure you get one with an IP
address so you can manage it remotely.
Sidestory: Nowadays, they have internet on cross country flights. I
took a United flight from LAX to NYC and had full access to my rack
30,000 feet up in the air. Turned out to be the fastest & most
productive 6 hour flight I ever experienced.)
