[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Voice class codec and gatekeeper

2012-05-03 Thread The Masterplan
Hi,

I have 2 distinct questions:
1. In the case of gatekeeper, what is the difference between hopoff and
outvia?
2. Is it a good approach to use the voice class codec below for all
dial-peers in the exam (with small exceptions like dial-peer to cue or bacd
where you only need g711u)?
voice class codec 1
codec preference 1 g711u
codec preference 2 g729r8

Thank you

ESXi 5 has pretty much the same look and feel of 4.1. The biggest
difference is how they do the licensing. In 4.1, the licensing was based
 on
the number of CPUs. In 5, it is based on RAM, and another thing I believe.
Oh, and it does include vSphere.

 Hello Guys,

If we have been asked to use G729 codec between sites, then what should be
my first preference of codec in voice class codec profile for incoming
calls to call manager on branch sites.

 Generally we use :-

 on Brance 1 Router:

 voice class codec 1
 codec preference 1 g711ulaw
 codec preference 2 g729r8

 dial-peer voice 1000 voip
  destination-pattern 1...$
  voice-class codec 1
session target ipv4:X.X.X.X   (Pub or Subs)
 dtmf-relay h245-alphanumeric
 no vad

but in this case we are using g711 over the wan and i think this is not
 the
 requirement.
Is it the correct configuration Or do we need to use g729 codec as the
 first preference ?

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Voice Class Codec Question

2011-11-16 Thread Kshitij Singhi
, this is a call between
 sites
and once again, we needn't worry about the preference of codecs in the
 voice
  class command since:
Site A IP Phone (Reg-SiteA) will be calling the egress GW at Site B
(Reg-SiteB). If the incoming dial peer at Site B has both codecs defined,
the GW will send an H.245 TCS to CUCM advertising both codecs. However,
 CUCM
will enforce the region relationship(s) mentioned previously and will
 thus
  negotiate only G.729.
Note that the preference of the codecs in the voice class codec becomes a
matter of concern only when something like this happens:
  1. An H.323 endpoint advertises G.711 as first preference and then G.729
  2. GW advertises G729 as first preference and then G.711.
In this scenario, the MSD will be the tie breaker. In most cases, for a
 CUCM
scenario, CUCM becomes the master and wins, so to speak although I
 don't
know of any way to define a codec preference on CUCM as such.

Hi,

your configuration is ok. You will define the codec, which is actually used,
inside CUCM with Region Settings. And Settings in the Enterprise and Service
Parameters, as well.

but in this case we are using g711 over the wan and i think this is not the
requirement.
Is it the correct configuration Or do we need to use g729 codec as the
first preference ?

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] voice class codec?

2011-06-14 Thread Greg
I've see some people configure voice class codec for the lab like below:

voice class codec 1
 codec preference 1 g711ulaw
 codec preference 2 g729r8

I was wondering that's the point of having such a class.

I meant, for the lab, it explictly requires either g711 or g729. So why do
we want to have preference 1 and preference 2?

Thanks!

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Voice class codec and default VOIP dialpeer

2010-04-30 Thread Ashar Siddiqui

Hi all,

I was just wondering what is the importance of creating Voice class
codec on a H323 gateway?

I use to create this class like:

voice class codec
codec preference 1 g711ulaw
codec preference 2 g711alaw
codec preference 3 g729r8

and then I would add it under default incoming voip dialpeer like:

dial-peer voice 1 voip
 voice-class codec 1
 incoming called-number .
 dtmf-relay h245-alphanumeric
 no vad

But I noticed that this dialpeer mess up with CUE and MWI etc like
different sites not reaching to Voicemail or even if they reach
voicemail the MWI won't lit up. Removing this incoming voip dialpeer
resolved all issues.

In my lab exam, I did not use this dialpeer at all i.e. default voip
dialpeer. Everything worked finebut I did not get marks as I was
expecting. I am not saying that this would be the only thing where I
would have lost points but could it be one of the reason?

So questionis a default voip dialpeer necessary?
If we create one then what codec should we use as voice class codec mess
things up.

Thanks.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Voice class codec and default VOIP dialpeer

2010-04-30 Thread Cristobal Priego
I don't think a class codec is required as long as you have the codec g711
configured on the voip dial-peer

by default a voip dial-peer supports g.729 by default and CUE only supports
g.711 so we either need to force that call to be g711 somehow either using a
class codec command or just the codec command under the dial-peer

that's just my opinion

In this case, the BR1 gateway will be sending inbound calls to local devices
and Intra-site calling has the preferred codec of g711ulaw. A scenario
where the g729 codec might be used is in the case of TEHO routing where the
HQ site may be sending calls across the wan and out the BR1 sites¹ PSTN.

You've got the preference backwards.

In order to force it to G711 within the site, you'll need to have g711ulaw as
preference 1. On the inter site link, it will negotiate down based on
bandwidth. It won't negotiate up.

G729 is the preferred codec for H323/CME/SRST. It will go to that if it can.
It won't negotiate up if the other end supports G729. It WILL negotiate down
if it attempts G711 and the other end won't support it.

Not sure why, but I have always seen negotiating codec g729 when there
is incoming call from PSTN and the preference of codec did not matter ?

  You've got the preference backwards.

In order to force it to G711 within the site, you'll need to have
g711ulaw as preference 1. On the inter site link, it will negotiate down based
on bandwidth. It won't negotiate up.

hi

usually we r requested to use g729 between sites and g711 within
sites, my question is about tis command:

  voice class codec 1

  codec preference 1 g729r8
  codec preference 2 g711ulaw

when we have h323 gateway on BR1, can we use this command on BR1
h323 gateway for both dial peers pointing to CCM:

  dial-peer voice 3000 voip
  destination-pattern 2...
  session target ipv4:SUB
  voice-class h323 1
  voice-class codec 1
  dtmf-relay h245-alphan
  no vad

  dial-peer voice 3001 voip
  destination-pattern 2
  session target ipv4:PUB
  voice-class h323 1
  voice-class codec 1
  dtmf-relay h245-alphan
  preference 2
  no vad

note: 2... is BR1 site extensions

using voice class codec here, does it violate the task of g729 only
between sites?

G729 is the preferred codec for
H323/CME/SRST.  It will go to that if it can.  It won't negotiate up
if the other end supports G729.  It WILL negotiate down if it attempts G711
and the other end won't support it.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] voice class codec

2009-03-30 Thread Chris Parker
As has already been stated G711 should have preference over G729. This
is because all of the ingress calls (PSTN to VoIP) on the BR1 GW will be
going to phones at the BR1 site. So you want it to be G711. The only
time an inbound call would switch down to 729 is when a call rolls over
to VM (Assuming Unity is in the same region as HQ).

You may also need to consider egress calls from HQ via the BR1 GW. TEHO
and GW failover come to mind. You might want to use the same (711 over
729) voice class on the matching inbound dial peer for those calls as well.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Voice-class codec and H.245 capability exchange

2009-03-26 Thread Alex

Hello all,
I have the following on BR2:
voice service voip
allow-connections h323 to h323
allow-connections h323 to sip
allow-connections sip to h323
allow-connections sip to sip
!
voice class codec 1
codec preference 1 g711ulaw
codec preference 2 g729r8
!
dial-peer voice 1003 voip#inbound dialpeer for calls from HQ/CCM
translation-profile incoming fm_outside
voice-class codec 1
incoming called-number 3313233...
dtmf-relay h245-alphanumeric
!
On CCM side I have H.225 GK-controlled trunk in G.729 device pool, G.729
region (G.711 inside this region, G.729 to Default region where IP Phones
are). MTP required is UNchecked.

All call routing works, codec negotiation does not.
debug h245 asn1 shows BR2 accepts calls only when G.711 codec is offered
(when I change DP on the trunk to Default).

Checking/unchecking Wait for far-end... box does not make any difference.
Anyone has seen something like this before?
Thanks
Alex

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Voice-class codec and H.245 capability exchange

2009-03-26 Thread Alex
Found the answer myself: when voice-class codec is configured on INBOUND
dialpeer, then in H.245 capabilities exchange the router advertises/accepts
only the codec which is configured on OUTBOUND dialpeer.

Example 1:
CCMGKTBR2 (inbound DP 1003)-(outbound DP 3600)CUE
H.245 shows only G.711 is accepted by BR2 from CCM, because DP 3600 has
codec g711u configured

Example 2:
CCM-GKTBR2(inbound DP 1103)---(outbound DP 1104)---BR2
loopback---(inbound DP 1104)-(outbound DP 3600)CUE
H.245 shows only G.729 ( G.729a too) is advertised and accepted by BR2 from
CCM because DP 1103 has default codec (G.729).

Does anyone know if it is a bug or a feature?
Bizarre :-)
Rgds
Alex
