You spam me over weeks and months and then act like I am the fucking villian?

Don't you think that the "polite" thing to do would be to administer your

Re: Unsubscribe

Dear5 David...

I have exercised extreme dilligence in attempting to unsubscribe.

I am totally fed up. If a list can't be responsibly managed, it should not
be published at all.

messages per day, day in and day out, week in and week out.

Think twice about your remark about "having my email address" --that's a

JavaScript, I think. If you want to do these type of things, or anything
on the client for that matter, you have to use a client-side scripting
language such as JavaScript. CF is purely a server-side scripting
language.

Some URLs that will get you started with popup menus and all things
JavaScript:

build the Excel file with multiple "sheets" within a single file. any

CFTREE Error

I'm trying to use CFTREE but the java applet it uses seems to not want

If I try to run the page from http://www.myurl.com/blah/cftree.cfm I get
the following error in the java console:

# Applet exception: class allaire.controls.CFTreeFormApplet could not be
loaded

Can anybody explain what I need to so to fix this please?

Sorry if this is a bit OT, but it is a CF tag... :)

COUNT headache

2000-06-29 Thread Adrian Cesana

I need obtain a few field counts but based on different criteria. The
following almost works but I need something like this:

(COUNT(cn) ='21') AS C21_COUNT AND
(COUNT(cn) ='20') AS C20_COUNT

I tried doing this in a UNION but could not get it working. Can COUNT be
used on a varchar field...? I also need the totals not based on the
grouping, I can do this with a separate query no problem, but it seems like
I should be able to get it our of a single query...

SELECT

source,
COUNT(*) AS source_count,
COUNT(match) AS match_fld61,
COUNT(cn) AS C21_COUNT,
COUNT(cn) AS C20_COUNT

FROM mytable

WHERE ship_date BETWEEN #form.datefrom# AND #form.dateto#

GROUP BY source

If by "this method" you mean generating CSV text, the advantage is that you
don't have to have Excel installed on your server and don't have to do OLE
automation, which isn't a viable solution in high-volume applications. If,
on the other hand, you're referring to writing your own COM objects instead
of using CFX_Excel, there probably isn't much to gain, if CFX_Excel does
what you need it to do.

None of the array functions in CF work with both dimensions of a
two-dimensional array.

When you consider that a two-dimensional array, in CF, is simply a
one-dimensional array in which every element contains a one-dimensional
array, it makes sense that you can't sort on the outer dimension - there's
no property by which to sort!

I'd second this recommendation if you're interested in automating Office
apps via CF, even if you don't know VB. It's got examples using WSH, VB, and
VC++, so you can pick your poison. However, if you need to generate this
stuff under heavy use, remember that OLE automation is relatively slow and
resource-intensive.

Sometimes low tech is the best approach. Unless they really, really need to
have an Excel spreadsheet - if, for example, you need to have Excel
functions in addition to raw data - rather than just data they can read in
Excel, I'd recommend simply generating CSV directly from CF. I've beaten
this example to death, but it demonstrates generating CSV:

If you look at quicken *.qif files they are text files, these can be easily

RE: Tracking users through a site

2000-06-29 Thread Andrew Scott

This method would not work for too long, when we talk about logging
information we end up talking a lot of information to be kept. A cookie
hasn't enough in size to hold much information at all. It would depend on
what information you are requiring to capture, in this case I would go for
the log everything to a DB, on a daily basis squeeze the information you
require and store into another table. This means that you can keep the DB to
a small size but getting the information you require, and throwing away the
junk. I use this method in a site I developed. I prefer this method of web
log programs that run under the OS, because they can't get all the extra
data you can do on the fly.

Also speed should of a site should never be an issue, it should always be
budgeted to be upgraded to more memory or faster CPU...

Another possibility, if cookies are an option, would be to continuely pass a
"Click Stream" cookie back & forth to the user. At each page request, just
take the current cookie that they've sent back to you, append the current
page w/ keywords to the end, and send it back to the user.

Alot of sites do that very thing, but it has the potential of creating a
rather large cookie if the user spends any amount of time on your site. You
could potentially have kilobytes of extra information sent both directions
on every single page request.

My personal feeling on logging-type things like this is that you end up with
a MUCH more reliable site if you offload as much of the processing to later.
So in this case, I'd recommend logging each page hit, then latter (perhaps
hourly, even) running analysis on the per-page logs to aggregate them into
something more useful for your needs.

Best regards,
Zac Bedell

As others have mentioned you could record each page view by using the
application.cfm and the cgi variables. To get to the summary data you are
looking for you could run a scheduled event at the end of each day that
queries the data for individual visits and loads the results in a summary
table and when completed clears the 86,000 records out of the log file.

RE: (kinda OT) Memory Write Error/Browser Crash

2000-06-29 Thread Andrew Scott

This doesn't mean its your site causing it. It could be a piece of software
installed that is causing it to crash. I couldn' run Norton Antivirus 2000
under Windows 2000, then one day I uninstalled 4-5 programs and NAV worked
again for no reason. So its very hard for a server script to cause that kind
of damage. It means something on the clients machine is not functioning
properlly.

I have been getting reports of a very wierd error that I cannot recreate on
my machine. When a user gets to a certain form on my site and then clicks
the back button they get a windows error that reads.

The intruction at "0x715c167a" referenced memory at "0X0100". The
memory could not be written.

Click on OK to terminate the application
Click on CANCEL to debug the application

Any ideas as to what could be causing this. The site is on a NT 4 SP6a
box, running cf 4.51 SQL 7.0. It only happens in IE and not in Netscape.

RE: outputting query results to Excel

2000-06-29 Thread Mark Warrick

Here's some sample code that I used to output sales leads to an Excel spreadsheet.
This works best if the user is browsing with Internet Explorer because IE will
automatically launch Excel and populate the spreadsheet with no extra lines whereas if
you simply saved the file, you'd end up with extra lines. By the way, no one who knew
anything about Excel had a problem with the extra lines because they knew they could
sort the records and get rid of them. By the way, there are no indents, extra lines,
or extra spaces in this code for a reason.

---mark

PS - Please don't bitch about the syntax people. I know! It's OLD code. But it
works! Update it to current standards as you wish.

Install Office on your web server. Use Visual Basic to write a COM object
(wrapper really) that calls on Excel. Then call on your COM Wrapper using
CFOBJECT.

If you go this route, go buy the book "Instant ASP Components" (yes, even
though you are not using ASP this book has an exact example of how to write
this COM wrapper to use both Excel and Word). ISBN:0-07-212552-7

I have personally used the examples in that book as a roadmap to create
document generation objects that are callable from CF.

A cheaper and less technologically advanced route may be to simple output
the query as a CSV file or tab delimited file and let them convert.

You could also write a CFX that does that same thing as the COM wrapper.
But VB is quick and dirtybut runs fine in a server environment (oddly
enough, just like java is great for server componentsthough they both
suck IMO as client side languages).

how do I pass one more value to an array?

2000-06-29 Thread Denise Rolen

I have a form where I am allowing a user to enter data, it is not a simple
form where all the data goes into one table.
There are many fields going to multiple tables. And there are multiples of
some of the fields that can be selected and they need to be inserted into
the appropriate table using a foreign key (MAXRecipeID) which I derive based
on the initial insert. OK, that's it for the history lesson. I hope I was
clear.
The problem comes in now where I have maxed out my knowledge and I am using
the code below to perform the creation of the array and the loop for the
"INSERT INTO recipe_item( recipe_id, Item_id) VALUES
(#VARIABLES.MAXRecipeID#,#variables.ItemOrdered#)" but now I am perplexed.
How do I get yet another field of data into this array for an INSERT that
would look like this: INSERT INTO recipe_item(recipe_id, Item_id,
unit_of_measure_abbrev) VALUES
(#VARIABLES.MAXRecipeID#,#variables.ItemOrdered#,
#SOMETHING.Unit_of_measure_abbrev#)?
I have a need to pass one more form variable (unit_of_measure_abbrev) into
this array but I can't figure out how?
Where in the array code/loop and/or the cfset do I "add" this form variable?
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated!
TIA,

Denise

RE: Is it possible to have a preview of records before going live??

2000-06-29 Thread Roberts, Jesse D

Perhaps I'm missing something, but why not just pass the form elements to a
page that merely displays the stuff submitted with whatever formating you
want. Then the user could review it. If s/he wants any changes, they click
a Make Changes button which passes them back to the original page with the
text field contents, etc. If no changes are needed, they click a Done, no
changes needed button which submits it to the template with the INSERT
statement.

This list now has a great archive source. Check out

RE: MySQL on UNIX w/ CF on NT4

2000-06-29 Thread Mike Bannister

We are using this for a multi-user 'portal-like' site for a large *.EDU. If
it is successfull it will be very high traffic.

If it doesn't support transactions what exactly does that mean and how might
it cause problems?

If you can't do subqueries that would mean running many extra SQL queries
and a heck of a lot of code to make them relate data the way a normal
relational database might right?

Anyone else around that has experience with MySQL, please any thought on how
it might react in such a multiuser environment would be helpful.

Thanks!

I'm no expert, but my impressions:

a. MySQL recently supports transactions. I don't know if this support is
in a current 'stable' release yet or not.

b. You can't do sub-queries.

c. Locking mechanisms are pretty weak.

The consensus seems to be that MySQL is built for speed and not for

RE: SafeText.cfm ??

2000-06-29 Thread Troy Johnson

Yes, but specifically which ones? There is a list already built into the
tag. It has the following in it:

Tags:(SCRIPT,OBJECT,APPLET,EMBED,FORM,LAYER,ILAYER,FRAME,IFRAME,FRAMESET,PAR
AM,META)

Event Handlers:
(onClick,onDblClick,onKeyDown,onKeyPress,onKeyUp,onMouseDown,onMouseOut,onMo
useUp,onMouseOver,onBlur,onChange,onFocus,onSelect,javascript:)

Should there be any more that are NOT already in either of these lists that
anybody can think of?

thanks,

Oh! I get it now. So you're asking whether there should be exclusions for
event handlers (javascript) and DHTML, etc., right?

Good point. Haven't got a clue. Maybe the authors of the two CF_SafeText
tags have some input. (Ben??)

RE: printing

2000-06-29 Thread Mark Warrick

Yes, however you have no control over what the end user does. The user would have to
change their page setup preferences (or print options as the case may be) to exclude
those items from printing. And NO, there is no way to do this with javascript, HTML,
or anything else for that matter without the user getting involved.

Any ideas on how to tie CF Studio together with local SCM?

We use Clearcase source code management locally. Anyone aware of any hooks
in CF Studio to tie in one's SCM? We can write the code if necessary - but
we need the hooks. Otherwise, people have to bop back and forth between
various tools.

CF and solaris java/jaguar 911

I have a friend called Carmen who is trying to get CF to talk to a Sun
java database thing called jaguar on Solaris. I don't know it and
Allaire hasn't been able to help so far and the program is supposed to
work before the weekend... so if anyone can solve this problem and wants
to fly to Washington DC all expenses paid for the 4th July weekend
please call Carmen Larsen on 301-332-2686. I think you can name your
price if you can do the work NOW. The company is called Aquas and is a
Sysbase shop based in Bethesda MD. The project is in Wash DC. Thanks!

The thing that scared me about MySql is the lack of foreign keys. It
allows you to define them (as required by the ANSI SQL standards I
believe), but does not actually enforce or do anything with
them. According to their documentation, they do this to speed up the
database since integrity checks take time. It also stated that programmers
should not be lazy, and should take the time to write any integrity checks
they feel they need into their programs. I understand this position, to
some extent, but I find it both arrogant and dangerous. Data integrity,
IMHO, should be handled at the database level.

RE: cfexecute perl

CFEXECUTE doesn't get output sent to stdERROR (or however it's referred to).
You have to redirect error output to stdOut (or stdOutput), sorry, my Perl
is a bit rusty, but this applies to everything (involving cfexecute I mean).

Re: Oracle BLOB and CF

2000-06-29 Thread Troy Simpson

Thanks again for the responses.
I figured it would get to be a little involved.

I created a CFQuery that only returns data of type CHAR or NUMBER.
I'm using the Oracle Native Drivers to access an Oracle8i database.
The BLOB field is called "jpeg".
Here is the query I wrote and it responds fine.

SELECT image_id, DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH(jpeg) AS jpeg_length
FROM design.image

*Note: The DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH(jpeg) is a function in Oracle that will return the
number of bytes that the BLOB contains. The return value is of type NUMBER.

When I try to actually SELECT the content of the BLOB field I get an error.
Here is the query that selects the contents of the BLOB field.
In this case the BLOB field is call "jpeg".

SELECT image_id, DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH(jpeg) AS jpeg_length, jpeg
FROM design.image

And here is the error that I get:
Oracle Error Code = 932
ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes
SQL = "SELECT image_id, DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH(jpeg) AS jpeg_length, jpeg FROM
design.image"

I believe that since the contents stored in the BLOB are not of type CHAR or NUMBER,
the native driver is having a problem returning the content stored in the BLOB back to
the
ColdFusion Application Server, or something like that. I believe I'm going to have to
somehow fool CF into thinking that the data being returned is of Type CHAR or NUMBER.
If I do
it this way, the data may become corrupted.

Any ideas on how to get the data into a CF Variables so that I can write it to disk?

Thanks,
Troy

(OT) Contract Terms

2000-06-29 Thread Eric Dawson

I am writing a contract with a company that has a 10MB connection to the
Internet. I am going to resell the bandwidth on a revenue / cost sharing
basis.

Basically. I pay the company 50% of the gross revenue up to the point where
the infrastructure costs are paid for. and then 10% thereafter.

I need some contract terms, if anyone has some snippets they can send me.

Ideas.

Anyone want to colocate a box cheap? Canadian dollars?

MySQL on UNIX w/ CF on NT4

2000-06-29 Thread Mike Bannister

Hello,

We are about to start a fairly large project using mysql on Unix
as our DB. I hear there is no transaction support, you can't do
'sub selects' (Is that the same thing as a sub-query?), and that it is
in some way 'single threaded' and/or unsuitable for multiuser
environments...?
Could someone with some experience explain/clarify these things and
possibly provide some examples of where we might run into trouble...?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

cfexecute perl

2000-06-29 Thread Helge Hetland

Why isn't this giving any output?

When executing the same command (perl blabla) under the cf user account it
reports:
Can't open perl script "blabla": no such file or directory

Shouldn't I get the same results from cf?

(running returns a
directory listing in cf)

What do I run the script directly to get a output?

I'm trying with ./perlscript.pl with no result.

RE: order by question

2000-06-29 Thread Mark Warrick

Well, if you've determined that the query runs fine, then the problem is with the
output. I would double check your theory by running the query directly in the
database. Use iSQL/w on SQL or an Access query, or whatever just to make sure the
results are coming out correctly.

If the query is in fact good, check your output statements, clear your browser's
cache, and try accessing it from another computer.

No, but I've used different mail clients, and I like to play "good cop, bad
cop".

In any case, I suspect those numbers are a bit off; for example, just to
pick someone, Sharon DiOrio has made fifty posts between 26 April and today,
but she's not listed in the "Top 20 Posters", even though she'd rank higher
than half the people on the list.

Finally, unless I can get money on a per-post basis, it doesn't really
matter that much!

RE: Help again:User/Password Security Framework for Intranet site.

2000-06-29 Thread Mark Warrick

I secure applications via Fuseaction names.

You could do the same with template names.

Create a database of template names with an ID field.

id_template
template_name

Create a "groups" table.

id_group
group_name
group_level

Then, you'll have an association table for templates to groups

id_template
id_groups

You'll need a user database (which you sort of already have)

id_user
username
password
first_name
etc

And you'll have an association table for groups to users

id_group
id_user

Create an administrator for all of these tables and the associations, and you'll be
able to secure your application by groups of users or simply by group level.

Have fun. I've done it before and it works great.

ArraySort is horrid and ugly - it only (seems) to sort single dimentioned
arrays, and either eats 2 dimentional ones, or does nothing

I had to write a sort routine for my 2 dimentional ones

If not, keep a dump database, make a table, insert the data, query it...
voila!

Ugly, but faster than writing your own sort routine.

Help again:User/Password Security Framework for Intranet site.

2000-06-29 Thread Angél Stewart

Hello all..its me again =)

I'm writing a small intranet application, that has areas limited to certain
users with the correct Secuity Access Level.

I have a table with Username, Password, and Access Level.

I am thinking at the top of each page, to put a CFIF script to check for the
prescence of a cookie called Authenticated, which will be set when the user
fills out the Login page at the beginnning of the application.

The value of that cookie will be the access level retrieved from the
database.
THis is what I have in the login page:
__

  Select * FROM bpamoco.users
  Where User = #form.username# AND Password = #form.password#

You have entered an incorrect username and password. Please try again.

  User Verified.

_

And htis is what I have on the Edit Employee page:
_

You have not successfully logged into the system!
Please enter you're login information below!

You do not have permission to view this page

___

To me this seems..well...dirty.
I know that there is a more elegant way to do this, and I know one of you is
just dying to show me the path to enlightenment :-)

RE: Is it possible to have a preview of records before going live??

2000-06-29 Thread Shane Pitts

Just add another field to the table called "islive" or something, Integer
Default 0, upon submission, it goes to 0, and the output page looks for all
entries that have a 1 only.

When he reviews and confirms, he hits another button that simply updates the
0 to a 1 and its live..

Hey everyone,

I have a site where the users can add text to a form that will then
go to database, and from that a "news page" will get it's
information. Easy.

But, my client wants a way to add the text, hit enter, then preview
it with the ability to make changes before it goes live. After the
preview/change process he can hit another submit button to have the
info go live.

I'm looking for ideas as to where to start. Is this possible? Do I
need 2 tables, a beta table that is used before it goes live to the
final table? I'd need to figure out how to get the record from the
beta table to the live table.

Any better/other ideas? All help or suggestions are appreciated on
this one...

SQL: order by question

2000-06-29 Thread Jill Cooney

I have a library database which I order by Book Title in order to
present an alphabetical list. However, when a new book is added which has
the same first word as another title (for example, "Managing Databases" and
"Managing Offices"), only "Managing Databases" will appear in the list. If I
turn on debugging, I know the second Managing title is being selected, just
not "outputted".
Does anyone know of a workaround? Thanks.

Best Approach: Populating Exchange Server data

2000-06-29 Thread Eric Dawson

Here's what I got:
An exchange server with 240 mailboxes.
I want to use the exchange server as the source of Human Resource related
items such as org charts. Visio 2000 has ODBS connection and a wizard to
generate the org charts. Problem is there is a bunch of data entry required
(and I don't want to do it ... heh heh).

??? How can I give someone else Win95 client on Novell / NT network access
to Exchange Server 5.5SP?3? administration to update the mailbox records. I
haven't seen a remote administration client for Exchange Server, does this
exist? Can I use LDAP?

Next I want to "publish" the company directory to the Intranet and (maybe)
Internet site. What is the best way, and quickest ways to do this. LDAP?

Also they have IIS with ASP installed, but not Cold Fusion. I have
recommended CF, but I am curious also to learn ASP approaches to the same
problems.

Thanks
Eric

Cool stats, but I don't see any search (or even browse) functions. Oh,
here it is: http://www.pdm-inc.com/mky_t5.cfm. Getting some JS runtime
errors there, but I assume this is still in development.

The CF-Talk list has also been archived at
  http://www.mail-archive.com/cf-talk%40houseoffusion.com/
for some time now... it threads messages nicely, and searches are
amazingly fast considering the volume of lists they mirror. A search for

Re: Is it possible to have a preview of records before goinglive??

2000-06-29 Thread Dick Applebaum

Two ways to do this:

1) Client-side: JavaScript PopUp window with JavaScript programming to
perform/approximate whatever formatting the CF program will perform
when it displays the page from the db

2) Server-side: JavaScript PopUp window which invokes same CF Template which
formats the data from the db, except it formats data from the form
submission.

The former is more interactive, and works well if little or no
additional formatting is performed on the data in the text area (add
a bold heading, etc).

The later is better if the ultimate presentation involves extensive
formatting of the data before presentation, which would be difficult
to approximate in JavaScript.

user is satisfied with the data and they submit the preview form just change
this value to "active" (or 1 or "true" or "yes" or whatever).

Then simply modify the query used on your "live" page to only pull data
where the status value is "active". Also, if you ever want to prevent a
record from displaying, but you don't want to delete it, just change the
status back to "inactive" and it will stop appearing on the live page.

Make sense?

It mentions character text for a reason. Non-text binary data is represented
using symbols other than ASCII characters, and CF can't handle those
symbols. There's no easy way to work with binary data within CF,
unfortunately, and you can't simply retrieve the binary data and push it
directly to the browser. CF 4.5.x does provide some functions for working
with binary data, but no way to output that binary data. You can work with
binary data using a couple of workarounds, though; I suspect you may be able
to retrieve it and write it to a file, then use CFCONTENT to retrieve the
file and push that to the browser.

Re: Selects, default values..

2000-06-29 Thread allred

Kenneth,

You can include any options in your select that you want, either before or
after your query results. Just write them as if the query output weren't
present.

I notice that you're not using the "value" attribute within your OPTION
element. You can include this in your static options, and you can also use
an additional database field to populate it within the query output. If
you're inserting, this can be useful if the value you want to store differs
from the visible OPTION content.

e.g., instead of my option, you could write:
My Option 1
My Option 2 (the end tags are optional, but I
prefer to include them)

In any case, I suspect those numbers are a bit off; for example, just to

If he's going to preview and edit immediately following the addition of the new text,
you could simply pass the text as form vars to a preview page. If he wants to make
changes, he hits the Back button to return to the form, otherwise he hits a Publish
button to save it to the db...

If he's not necessarily going to add text and preview it in the same session, you
could
save it to the db with a "Status field" in that table. When he's approved it, simply
change the Status (e.g.) from 'Draft' to 'Live'. Set up your live pages to only pick
up
content with a status of Live...This keeps your content in a single table and avoids
the
hassles of two tables for essentially the same content... Only time you might want to
use
a second table is if he needs to be able to take LIVE content and rework it
through multiple work sessions. In that case, you could reference the LIVE record as a
foreign key in your DRAFT table, and when he's done fiddling with the new version,
simply update the LIVE record with the contents of its DRAFT equivalent...

Use session variables, from the form where they enter the data, send
it to a processing page that will put all form vars into sessions
vars, so then it held in memory. Then display the article for them.
If they accept insert the session vars into the database. If they
want to change it, send them back to the 1st page to edit using the
session vars.

If you need further help contact me off the list, I can explain in
more detail or give examples.

2000-06-29 Thread Aaron Johnson

Jeff,

Absolutely possible.

When the user originally inserts the information through the form, add a
column in the database like "live"... when they initially insert that
information, set live = 'no'

Then preview the information

When they are sure they want the information up on the site, update the
table setting live = 'yes', and your query on the news page should look like

select *
from news
where live = 'yes'

Hey everyone,

I have a site where the users can add text to a form that will then
go to database, and from that a "news page" will get it's
information. Easy.

But, my client wants a way to add the text, hit enter, then preview
it with the ability to make changes before it goes live. After the
preview/change process he can hit another submit button to have the
info go live.

I'm looking for ideas as to where to start. Is this possible? Do I
need 2 tables, a beta table that is used before it goes live to the
final table? I'd need to figure out how to get the record from the
beta table to the live table.

Any better/other ideas? All help or suggestions are appreciated on
this one...

This is a workflow issue. There are lots of ways you can manage workflow;
your method of using a separate table is one. Typically, I'd use a field to
contain the status of the record, then change that status as needed,
although there are some advantages to doing it your way.

Alternatively, if you don't need to keep the preview data around very long,
you might be better off storing in in memory until the user marks it as
live.

CFCONTENT and PDF

2000-06-29 Thread James Taavon

I have 10 pdf's in a folder on my server that are associated with 10
unique ID numbers in my database. How can I relate the two together so
when I click on the a certain ID number I get the proper PDF file
associated with that number displayed in my broswer window?

RE: Is it possible to have a preview of records before going live??

2000-06-29 Thread Jeff Beer

I usually just set a "live" toggle in the table. Once the end users
approves, she can click the "post" or "I love it now make it live" button,
and you flip that bit to "on" or "true" or 1 or whatever :-)

IOW, you write each form submission to the DB, and display it in it's
intended final state (graphics, etc), as often as needed. Then you make it
live on the "approved" posting.

HTH-YMMV,

Jeff

Re: Is it possible to have a preview of records before going live??

2000-06-29 Thread Sharon DiOrio

The simplest answer is to submit the form to a "preview" page, and pass the
information along to a "confirm" page as hidden fields. Something like this:

Here is how it will look. Hit "back" to make any changes.

#FORM.news#

SQL stuff

Thanks for your submission!

Yep. One is the Cold Fusion Guru we all know. And the other one is out partying all
the time.;-)

The database isn't perfect, Dave must use two email clients with slightly different
settings. Probably a laptop.

Amen. You can do a search on Dave and get all of his, lucid, straight to the point,
posts. Almost like reading a random textbook on Cold Fusion. I just noticed the link I
gave doesn't show the search links. Go to

RE: Is it possible to have a preview of records before going live??

2000-06-29 Thread Scott J. Brader

Why not just add an "Approved" field to the table with the contents of
anything not flagged as approved not showing up on the site? The users could
edit/etc. before approving from an administration page.

Subject: Is it possible to have a preview of records before going live??

Hey everyone,

I have a site where the users can add text to a form that will then
go to database, and from that a "news page" will get it's
information. Easy.

But, my client wants a way to add the text, hit enter, then preview
it with the ability to make changes before it goes live. After the
preview/change process he can hit another submit button to have the
info go live.

I'm looking for ideas as to where to start. Is this possible? Do I
need 2 tables, a beta table that is used before it goes live to the
final table? I'd need to figure out how to get the record from the
beta table to the live table.

Any better/other ideas? All help or suggestions are appreciated on
this one...

black arrays, hairy arrays, skinny arrays

2000-06-29 Thread Adam Cantrell

How do I sort an array and then work with the sorted information? The
combined documentation relating to this in both of the Forta books equates
to about 10 lines. The only output I can get from the arraysort function is
a "yes" or a "no", and after it returns "yes" and I go back to call data
from the "sorted" array - it's not sorted at all. Am I wrong to think of a
2 dimensional array as a spreadsheet? If I've got a 5 column, 2 dimensional
array - is there a syntax for sorting by, let's say, the 3rd column? Here
is what I have been trying:

So what this is doing is setting a two column array, each containing numbers
in an ascending fashion. The arraysort function on the last line (which
causes an error, hope you know what I'm attempting to do) is sorting the
array by the second column in a descending order. What am I doing wrong?
