Reloading a page from a onchange event
Hi, I have rather a complicated question. I am trying to implement a date function using three : selStudentEnrolmentDateDay, selStudentEnrolmentDateMonth and selStudentEnrolmentDateYear. I need to be able to reload the page when the user changes the value of either selStudentEnrolmentDateMonth or selStudentEnrolmentDateYear. It has to pass in the following url variables: studentID=a hidden value in the form called recordID inputMonth=the displayed value of selStudentEnrolmentDateMonth inputYear=the displayed value of selStudentEnrolmentDateYear So for example, if recordID=2, the month is 5, and the year is 1991, I want the following page to be loaded if the user changes selStudentEnrolmentDateYear to 1992: studentpersonaldetails.cfm?studentID=2&inputMonth=5&inputYear=1992 Something like javascript:window.open('studentpersonaldetails.cfm? studentID=2&inputMonth=5&inputYear=1992', 'main') would be great, but I don't know how to get the values into the url! RE: Bug Tracking Tool
Bugzilla is a good one however, our company is using RT(request tracker from www.bestpractical.com) which seems to be far superior to it. It allows an email interface, command line interface, web interface, and a lot more. It too is open source written in perl with an OO approach that is very easy to maintain and customize. The same tool is used for the development of PERL. There is also an instance supporting CPAN.org. First off, COM support in CFMX is just horrible. Don't even waste your time with it. I just kept getting endless errors trying to make calls to the QBXMLRPe (more on this later). What I did was use CF to generate the request QBXML, then used an ASP script to submit it and get the return QBXML, then used CF again to parse it. It's kind of a round-about way, but again, it's easier than getting error after error from CF. This is the basics of the ASP connector: <% Sub DoWork On Error Resume Next 'step 1: create QBXMLRPE object (EXE wrapper around QBXMLRP) Set rp = Server.CreateObject("QBXMLRPE.RequestProcessor") 'step2: Connect to QB rp.OpenConnection "1", "MyAppName" ticket = rp.BeginSession( "", request.Form("openMode")) inRq = request.Form("requestXML") outRs = rp.ProcessRequest(ticket, inRq) Response.Write(outRs) rp.EndSession ticket rp.CloseConnection End Sub DoWork %> Now, you can't call the QBXMLRP.DLL COM object directly from an ASP page, as IIS security doesn't allow it. So, Quickbooks provides an EXE wrapper for it, called QBXMLRPe.exe, which can be found in the SDKRoot/tools/access/QBXMLRPe/ folder. There is a readme in that folder explaining how to properly install it. After you have the QBXMLRPe wrapper installed correctly, and the ASP page is available on the server, then you can write CFM pages that can call Quickbooks. What I do is first generate the XML using . Then I have a CFC called "aspConnector.cfc" that takes the generated XML as its only parameter, makes an HTTP post to the ASP page using , and returns the Response QBXML from the ASP page. It might sound a little complicated, but it was actually fairly easy and is yet to fail. As long as you don't try to make the COM calls directly from CFMX, you'll be ok. Coldfusion MX and Microsoft Word problems...
Hey Guys, I recently upgraded our intranet server to Coldfusion MX and now whenever one of our users tries to open a word document off the web server, they get a 2 field network password prompt. This only happens with word and Excel documents. I have the authentication set to anonymous in IIS. Any ideas? Haven't tried it on anything but CFMX, but aside from the use of CFXML and CFCs, the rest of it should be mostly the same. Verity : Language Packs / Upgrading
Hey, Does anyone know if the language packs available with a valid registration of CFMX are compatible with ColdFusion 5.0 and VK2? Basically, we have CF5 and want to install the language packs and since we have them from our CFMX registrations we need to know if they can be used? if not, what is the path of getting them for CF5 as we cant use CFMX at present? ALso, if someone can provide any inforamtion on upgrading the actual path of upgrading the OEM restricted version of K2 on CF5. Any information here would be extremely helpful. Each CFC and each method within a CFC is converted to a Java class file, just like each CFM file, and that compiled class file is loaded (and cached in memory). As Ray said, the lifetime of each CFC instance is whatever you tell it to be, i.e., depending on how you use and store it. > 2.Let's assume a CFC method requires 3 seconds for output in > testing. This is no different to having any CFM page that takes three seconds and still being able to support many concurrent users. > 3.If they don't, is there something I can tweak/change/do to make > them better handle near-simultaneous requests? It depends on how you are trying to use CFCs. If you have stateless CFCs, you can create a single cached issue in application scope and use that instance for all your cfinvoke's. If you have stateful CFCs, you need to manage their lifetimes according to whatever rules the state has - it may be per page, per request, per session. Array or structure or ??
HI, I was wondering if someone might help me out with a question I am having. I have a form that is multi part (3 pages), the user fills out the last page and is prompted if they are ready to print the pickup form or if they want to fill out another shipping (request) form. If they request another shipping form they start filling out the forms again, but if they request that they want to complete the pickup form - I need to present the pickup form with the box numbers form each shipping form that they filled out. So if they filled out five shipping forms, I need to present the pickup form with the 5 boxnumber already filled in. My question is should I store the boxnumbers in an array or a list or something else and also I if created the array do I need to pass it to each page so that it move with the user. I now the question kind of vague but I am not sure where to start. Thanks Mario This message is for the named person's use only. qForms (was Re: CFForm madness. 0_0)
Dan, The problem, specifically, there are two types of validations: 1) field required or not, msg responds to that; 2) field data_type, msg responds to that. But there's only one Message attribute. Also, in my utility/application, all db related metadata and data are dynamically determined, which is not difficult to fit into your js var definition. I was lazy. I could have js do the data_type validation and server-side do the required field check (the later part was not implemented). Try, this URL for data admin, http://68.32.61.40/datadata/dataman.cfm you see what meant better. Thanks. RE: Remoting?
>Ben... > > I know you proabably can't answer this... >but when you say "a different class of developers" I wonder what >exactly this means... I can't/won't speak for Ben, but I don't think it's any secret that with the advent of Flash MX, MM is trying very hard to break the perception that "Flash is for designers." I would take his statements and MM's actions (i.e., Royale) to suggest that they are making a concerted effort to introduce Flash MX as a viable tool for the enterprise market. If you think about MM's push over the last year plus (starting with the introduction of the MX product family), they are trying to into the enterprise marketplace, which is both more lucrative and will allow their products to continue to grow over time. >Neil, your comment makes me wonder: > >If I am planning to get into the OO flash programming using MVC with CF >as my backend, is Flash Remoting and AS sufficient? Or should I learn >Java...(time is a factor with me) I highly recommend Branden Hall and Samuel Wan's "Object-Oriented Programming with ActionScript" as the first place to go. Colin Moock's "ActionScript for Flash MX: The Definitive Guide, Second Edition" is also a great primer (although his treatment is more about syntax as opposed to how to use the language effectively), but Branden and Samuel really show how to use ActionScript for high-quality applications. I'm not so sure that learning Java is going to help you with learning ActionScript with Flash Remoting, but that's just my opinion. As for scaling Flash Remoting applications, I was recently made aware of a bit of code in the "Certified Macromedia Flash MX Developer Study Guide" that is supposedly really the only way to allow Flash Remoting to scale under load. I believe one of Matt Liotta's engineers came up with the code snippet and contributed it to the book. I would also look there if you're serious about developing production applications with FR. RE: Remoting?
Ben... I know you proabably can't answer this... but when you say "a different class of developers" I wonder what exactly this means... // Neil, your comment makes me wonder: If I am planning to get into the OO flash programming using MVC with CF as my backend, is Flash Remoting and AS sufficient? Or should I learn Java...(time is a factor with me) // Thanks to you all for giving me the answer from this perspective. For those of you who are interested, I also posted the question to a Flash list to get another perspective, and Jesse Warden answered with this: Firefly components are for those who don't wish to learn the Firefly components. Although I haven't personally used them, they seem like they'd be overkill for someone like me. I need to write specific code to connect to my .NET web services, and bind the data, etc. I have a more specicialized need and Firefly sound like a packaged deal for those who don't wish to learn Flash Remoting. Royale is really a tool to create SWF files based on XML server-side, cousin of Generator. WebServices can be used to create it, but it doesn't do Remoting all by itself; you'd still need to write code to have it contact web services. Remoting's future will be clearer towards the end of the year, but personally, I don't think there is much to learning Remoting really, only purchasing it. It's price demands you know wtf your doing... Which again, isn't that diffucult. Of all the concepts in Flash, I've found Remoting the most easiest to use and hardest to utilize. I myself have yet to mess with the PHP end of things, therefore haven't created my own web services. At work, I use services created by other programmers, which still isn't the best because I may be able to tweak them to work better with Flash, or even write my own... Someday Anyway, if your trying to find out where to best spend your time, you need to inform of us of what your interested in. Personally, I'd learn these, now, in the following order: - learn to connect to a simple web service using Flash Remoting; save the file, and keep it around for later. That counts, to me, learning Flash Remoting. - learn what Flashcom can do; don't have to code anything, just read throught he marketing. - read up on ECMA specifications, ecspecially some of the proposed 4 stuff - learn one or 2 patterns (MVC, Observer, etc.) To me, that's a great use of your time. / Candace K. RE: Array Delimiter Problems
As a helpful tip, I prefer to use the non-typable "bell" character as a list delimiter. I put this in my app_globals.cfm (if using FB) or application.cfm: Then use DELIM in all list functions, like this: #ListGetAt(whatsnew[k],2,DELIM)# Using a character that cannot be typed from a standard keyboard will greatly reduce (if not eliminate) the chance of a list delimiter error. It's also easy to maintain, if you ever need to change the delimiter character. CFC's and how they work.
I've got a box here at work and it has CFC that is going to get pretty hard. I'm a bit wary of scalability, which leads me to a few questions: 1. What does CFMX do about caching CFC's? Does it cache them? Does it cache them along with parameters? 2. Let's assume a CFC method requires 3 seconds for output in testing. Once in production, let's assume that load is significant enough such that the CFC will be invoked every second. Will the invocation have to wait for the CFC to finish processing the previous one? I guess another question I'm asking is - do CFC's support multi-threading? 3. If they don't, is there something I can tweak/change/do to make them better handle near-simultaneous requests? Any insight would be great. RE: CFMX and Netegrity
CFMX works very with Netegrity... of course our management won't let upgrade past CF 4.5. CF 4.5 has some issue in that it can't read custom headers passed to the page (CF 5 and MX have no problems with this). However Netegrity can be set to populate its data as cookies opposed to headers - this solved the problem for us. ...and eliminated yet another reason for us to upgrade CF. :^( Jim Davis > -Original Message- > From: Christian Cantrell [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Thursday, July 24, 2003 12:36 PM > To: CF-Talk > Subject: Re: CFMX and Netegrity > > On Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at 11:44 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] > wrote: > > > So I'm trying to find out the validity of the statement and what he > > means, > > but I'm having a hard time finding any kind of documentation on > > Macromedia's > > site and we don't have a support agreement with them. > > What kinds of things do you need to do with headers? The two Weblogic instances are running on the same machine(s) (it's a cluster)...so perhaps the answer would be session replication between the those two instances? That what you're saying? Stace -Original Message- From: Ben Forta [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, July 24, 2003 10:55 AM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: CF J2EE and Sharing Sessions Yes, CF session data can be shared with JSP and Java apps, but only in CFMX. As for having to be on the same box, well, if you set up session replication between two J2EE severs then you could share CF session data with apps on other boxes too (depending on the type of data, that is). --- Ben -Original Message- From: Stacy Young [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, July 24, 2003 10:50 AM To: CF-Talk Subject: CF J2EE and Sharing Sessions I'm somewhat new to CF on J2ee (Weblogic) and I was wondering whether sessions can be shared between JSP applications and CF. Both the CF and the JSP/Java applications are operating under their own WebLogic instance. Unfortunately we can not combine the two apps under cfmx (although technically we COULD) due to risk issues. Not that we have a problem with CFMX but the Java application we have running is ultra high priority/mission critical and we want the CFMX to operate under it's own JVM etc. It gets hit a lot harder than the Java app because most of it's work is reporting. Depending on what you find wrong with the current version of cfmail, you may find that Red Sky will address your needs. As Ben Forta said at a recent BACFUG meeting, Red Sky provides a lot of improvements to cfmail, including performance.
