RE: MS Access in CFMX 6.1

2004-09-24 Thread Pascal Peters
I had the same problem on a dev machine. The install wizard did not run
after installation (see link below). I don't remember if this helped,
because I got a new machine 1 week later and made a fresh install. I
only use access for teaching CF classes.

Subject: MS Access in CFMX 6.1

Curious about an issue I have ran accross.I am trying to setup a MS
Access datasource on a CFMX 6.1 box (windows 2003) and when I try to
use
the MS Access driver, I get this error:

The ColFusion MX ODBC Server service is not running or has not been
 installed

When I use the MS Access with Unicode it works just fine...

 1) What could the problem be
 2) Does it hurt anything to use the Unicode?

 Thanks

File not found: /cfide/administrator/index.cfm

2004-09-24 Thread Brook Davies
I have a new CFMX 6.1 install with the latest updater. Everything is good
(although I can't get any SSL connections to work...), but the
administrator is acting funny.

I can access any of the pages in the CFIDE/administrator/ directory, and
they are served up correctly. For example, I can load
http://www.mysite.com/cfide/administrator/left.cfm just fine and even use
it to manage the cf server. BUT!! If I go to CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm
- I get the message 'File not found: /cfide/administrator/index.cfm '.

Does anyone know what this means?

The remote machines will need to share the folder root(s), and the CF box will

Hot-fixes

2004-09-24 Thread Andrew Dixon
Hi Everyone.

I have been speaking someone at Macromedia about getting a mailing
list set up to alert users about Hot-fixes, and the reason that was
given for not have a list was, and I quote:

With hotfixes, we recommend that you install them only if you need
them. Unlike security bulletins, we expect people to look for a hotfix
to solve a specific problem - not to install every hotfix.

Personally I think this sounds very strange as bug fix is a bug fix
whether you need it or not. Ok I agree that unless you are suffering
from the problem caused by the bug, you are not going to benefit from
the fix straight away, but surely it is still better to have the fix
installed and the bug removed than leave the bug there only to fall
over it some time down the line.

What does everyone else think?

RE: Backing Up off of server (WAS RE: Doug White - clickdoug.com)

Right Click on your database, under all tasks choose Export data

In the Wizard
Choose your source --Next
Choose your destination--Next
Choose Select Objects to Copy--Next
Uncheck Copy All Objects
Uncheck Use Default Objects
Choose (Select Objects Button)
Select those items you want to copy
 Click ok
Choose (Options Button)
Set up the appropriate items.

Run or schedule the DTS.

Another thing that I usually do is script the database including the
relationships (from Right Click, all tasks, choose (generate SQL).
I then create two scripts from that, one for the tables and the others to
apply the relationships.I have found (and I am not a SQL guru so I am
probably doing it wrong) that sometimes when I create a new database and
import data that some data doesn't move over because of foreign key
constraints. So if I copy the data over without the indexes, then run the
sql script containing the indexes, constraints etc, that it works better.

user roles lists all the roles the user is in. The 2 element array is
combinations of roles which are not allowed. The end result is the user
will be removed from the roles which conflict. I dont really know where to
start on this one. Has anyone done anything like this or know where to
look? please see below.

Current User roles
1

6
9

Invalid Combinations

So, if I look at the data the user is currently in 3 invalid combinations

Subject: File names not correctly ordered

hrmm..I just noticed in my output after a directory query, when displaying
files it orders them as follows...
file_1
file_10
file_2
file_20
file_3

etc etc,
instead of the preferred
file_1
file_2
file_3
file_10
file_20

I know how to correct this when dealing with *just* numeric info, but not
with letters and numbers.

My queries are pretty straightfoward...
cfdirectory
name=getAllFiles
action="">
directory=#serverdir##docpath#
sort=name ASC

cfquery dbtype=query name=getAllFiles_#docpath#
SELECT *
FROM getAllFiles
/cfquery

Any ideas on how to sort this out??

Regards

Mark H

Re: Query/DB design problem

2004-09-24 Thread daniel kessler
I understand now that it should do an aggregate. After I posted this and went home for the day, a friend posted me a solution that worked ok and his emphasized the aggregate too, but looks a bit more complicated to read:

	SELECT p.p_id,p.p_question, a.pA_answer, COUNT(r.pV_poll_answer) AS total
	FROM fsnep_polls p, fsnep_pollAnswers a, fsnep_pollresults r
	WHERE p.p_id = a.pA_pollID
	AND a.pA_id = r.pV_poll_answer
	AND p.p_id = #url.poll#
	GROUP BY p.p_question, a.pA_answer, p.p_id
	union all
	select p.p_id,p.p_question, a.pA_answer, 0 AS total
	FROM fsnep_polls p, fsnep_pollAnswers a
	WHERE p.p_id = a.pA_pollID
	AND p.p_id = #url.poll#
	AND not exists (select 1 from fsnep_pollresults r where a.pA_id = r.pV_poll_answer)
	order by 2,3,1

Thank you for replying.I read through your sql and understand it.I'm learning alot each time I do one of these. This is my first relational and it sure seem to complicate the query side of the db work.

The query has to select the aggregrate and then outer join the related table.
This is just a stab in the dark as to how the query would look, but if you
can see what I'm trying to do, you can follow the concept to completion.I'm
not a DBA so take this as a guideline and not the solution (unless, of
course, it *is* the solution in which case feel free to praise me)

cfquery name=poll_results datasource=eatsmart
SELECT p.p_id,p.p_question, a.pA_answer, COUNT(r.pV_poll_answer) AS total
FROM fsnep_polls p
INNER JOIN rfsnep_pollAnswers aON a.pA_pollID = p.p_id
OUTER JOIN fsnep_pollresults r ON r.pV_poll_answer = a.pA_id
WHERE p.p_id = #url.poll#
GROUP BY p.p_question, a.pA_answer, p.p_id
ORDER BY p.p_question, a.pA_answer

Subject: Query/DB design problem

I recently asked how to structure a query to request poll results
from my db. I've listed the db structure and the query below.
The problem that I now have is that it only lists poll answers that
have been answered once.I know that this is because it's querying
the Results table (fsnep_pollresults) and that if there are answers
that have not been selected, then they won't show up in the results
table.
I don't know of a good, clean way of making this query includethem.
The only way I know to do it is to get a list of the answers and set
up a query that looks for the count of each of the answers. So if
there are 5 answers, I'll have 5 queries.It sounds like a resource
hog to me.

Any thoughts?

Query:
cfquery name=poll_results datasource=eatsmart

SELECT p.p_id,p.p_question, a.pA_answer, COUNT(r.pV_poll_answer) AS
total
FROM fsnep_polls p, fsnep_pollAnswers a, fsnep_pollresults r
WHERE p.p_id = a.pA_pollID
AND a.pA_id = r.pV_poll_answer
AND p.p_id = #url.poll#
GROUP BY p.p_question, a.pA_answer, p.p_id
ORDER BY p.p_question, a.pA_answer, p.p_id

The only thing I can think of is to add a new QueryColumn and use
ListLast(Filename, “_”) as the new columns value then sort by that… or
rename your files to something like…

File_001

File_002

File_003

File_010

File_020

File_030

cfloop query=”GetAllFIles”

Re: refresh inserts my form content

2004-09-24 Thread daniel kessler
ok, charlie and Dave, that's a good point. Now, I'm gonna go do it, but my first thought is that when the user clicks the back button, it'll re-insert then.

Greg, I'm rereading your solution again, but I'm not sure which primary key that you mean. For the actual answer/result into the results table? So insert, get the PK,then write that to a cookie? You say that I have a primary key on the form page, and I do, but it's the poll Id.That poll can be answered multiple times on one machine, since alot of our user base uses community machines.I just want it set up so that they MUST click a poll answer and submit each time they vote.

one solution is to use a 3-page approach.

form page - update page - thank you page

the form page is self-explanatory.contains your form.
the update page has your updat query in it.once the query succeeds,
do a cflocation to...

the thank you page.this is the page that lets your user know the
update completed successfully.and since it contains no UPDATE query
itself, it can be refreshed over and over and over with no adverse
effects on your data :)

cflocation actually does the equivalent of the _javascript_ function
location.replace().The header actually gets redirected to a different page
than the one originally requested. This means that on the thank you page,
clicking the back button will take the user to the form page and not the
processing page.

datetime problems - 01/01/1900

2004-09-24 Thread cf coder
Hello,

I'm assuming this one should be an easy one.I'm running an insert query and one of the fields is date/time. When I DO NOT send a value to it, I want to insert is as NULL, but instead, it's going in as 1/1/1900.

How should I do my query where I can send a NULL Value?

Thanks,

Sounds like the field itself is set to NOT NULL in the database. When that's
the case, not sending it a value will make the DB insert the value that
you're seeing. You need to redefine that field so that it accepts NULL
values.

It should look something like:

INSERT INTO table (datecolumn,...)
VALUES (
cfqueryparam cfsqltype=cf_sql_timestamp value=#myvar#
null=#YesNoFormat(NOT Len(myvar))#,
...
)

Where myvar holds the date/time value and you want to insert null if it
is empty.

If you want to insert null if mycondition is false :
VALUES (
cfqueryparam cfsqltype=cf_sql_timestamp value=#myvar#
null=#YesNoFormat(NOT mycondition)#,

)
Just make sure that myvar always exists (it will be ignored if
mycondition is false.

RE: Hot-fixes

What makes you think the hotfix has no bugs of its own?

If something works satisfactorily, you may be better off leaving it as it
is. Hotfixes address specific problems, but they potentially introduce new
unknown problems. The best example I can think of is with the database
drivers. There were all sorts of problems with the database drivers shipped
with CFMX 6.1, but there are also problems with the newer drivers. For most
people I've dealt with, the new problems are less serious than the old ones,
but it hasn't been that way for everyone.

Granted, some of the hotfixes are very simple, and unlikely to have bugs,
but this is something you'd want to evaluate on a case-by-case basis.

Just a point to note:

cfqueryparam ... null=#YesNoFormat(NOT Len(myvar))#

You don't actually need the yesnoformat() function call in there -- the
null= field takes a boolean value; a numeric value can be treated as a
boolean (any non-zero value is TRUE), and len() returns a numeric value,
so you can just use:

cfqueryparam ... null=#NOT len(myvar)#

Maybe it's just me being picky...:)

Ok, but until you install it you are not going to know if the hot-fix
has extra bugs in it. I agree that if a server is stable then
installing hot-fixes doesn't make sense. I guess my point is more that
would be nice to be informed a new fix is available and be given the

Oracle connection refused error with CFSCHEDULE task only

2004-09-24 Thread Samuel Neff
We're getting an Oracle error when we run a page through CFSCHEDULE but not
when we browse to the page. The page does a full-text index on the database
by querying all the data, writing out text files for each record, and then
indexing the text files.(we found that writing text files and indexing
those is at least 10 times faster than indexing the query directly--no idea
why).

So when we browse to the page it runs though and indexes everythign fine.
When we run it via cfschedule, we get this weird error I've never seen

RE: datetime problems - 01/01/1900

2004-09-24 Thread Pascal Peters
If I can give a solution that works in cf5 AND cfmx, I will always give
that one. I will usually specify if a solution is cfmx specific. A lot
of people are still using CF5 (or even cf4.5).
Sometimes it's worth giving a CFMX only solution, because the cf5
solution is more complicated or even impossible. But in this case it was
just the YesNoFormat(), so not much difference.

Whenever I answer (and sometimes ask) questions on this list, I try to
be as precise as possible. Although it's not always Friday afternoon, so
I don't always have the time to write a lot of prose to explain myself
;)

searching .gz compressed files

2004-09-24 Thread Steve Logan
Does anyone know if the standard Verity server with CF 5 or 6.1 can catalog the contents of .gz files?I'm building a tool to archive all incomign and outgoing mail to a server and to offer a web based search tool that can be used to search through the arcived mail based on date ranges, and search for either plain text contents of mail messages, or all mail from: or all mail to: etc.

On CFMX, this is the cleanest to read:

\[GT:(.*?)\]

On CF5, you'll have to use:

\[GT:([^]])\]

Not tested, may need tweaking, YMMV, etc.

SOT: Action Canceled, XP Service Pack 2

2004-09-24 Thread Rick Root
I'm using a combination of Flash and Coldfusion web services to generate
an Excel Spreadhseet (technically, the web service saves an html file on
the server with a .xls extension), and returns the URL to Flash.Flash
then uses getURL to open the .xls file in a new browser window.

This worked great but now with Windows XP Service Pack 2, the new window
pops up and then is filled with an Action Canceled message. If you
click Refresh in the toolbar of that window, it opens the spreadsheet
just fine.

Has anyone experience a similar problem and solved it?

--
Another annoyance with Service Pack 2 is the popup blocker, which also
blocks the new window.. it's not technically a popup... it's just a new
browser window.. like a target=_blank .../a

But even after allowing popups from the domain, you still get the
Action canceled message..

To: CF-Talk [EMAIL PROTECTED]

We're getting an Oracle error when we run a page through CFSCHEDULE but not
when we browse to the page. The page does a full-text index on the database
by querying all the data, writing out text files for each record, and then
indexing the text files.(we found that writing text files and indexing
those is at least 10 times faster than indexing the query directly--no idea
why).

So when we browse to the page it runs though and indexes everythign fine.
When we run it via cfschedule, we get this weird error I've never seen
before and couldn't find anything about online.

Also look at the file list, it's odd that it lists the CF call stack twice
with part of the error message in between as a Called from template. The
Java stack trace is correct though.

RE: .cgi conversion

2004-09-24 Thread Ryan Duckworth
The tool below will turn .class files to .java files.

.cgi files can be created from c, c++, java Many languages.

If it is java byte code (like a class file) then you can use this
reverse engineering tool.

You can then use the .java source file that is generated to create your
.cfm or .asp page.

It will take work to create the CF page from the java source, but it is
better than not having the source at all.

Also, you could hire or get a java consultant who could easily turn the
.java source file into CF or ASP.

Re: Oracle connection refused error with CFSCHEDULE task only

2004-09-24 Thread Ian Skinner
One of the first things I always check with CFSHEDULE problems is does the user account that the Cold Fusion service run as, usually system if not modified, have permission to all the resources necessary to do its task.In your case I would check the file security on the directories to which you are trying to write. You may also want to double check the permissions to Oracle as well.

The basic issue is that when you browse to the template the system uses your premisssions and can access resources that you have permission to utilize. But when CFSHEDULE runs the same template it can only use the permissions of the account used by the CF service and these are usually very limited if left to the defaults.

Hope that helps.

One of the first things I always check with CFSHEDULE problems is does the
user account that the Cold Fusion service run as, usually system if not
modified, have permission to all the resources necessary to do its task.In
your case I would check the file security on the directories to which you
are trying to write. You may also want to double check the permissions to
Oracle as well.

The basic issue is that when you browse to the template the system uses
your premisssions and can access resources that you have permission to
utilize. But when CFSHEDULE runs the same template it can only use the
permissions of the account used by the CF service and these are usually very
limited if left to the defaults.

Hope that helps.

Re: .cgi conversion

2004-09-24 Thread Asim Manzur
I was talking about Common Gateway Interface (CGI) which uses Perl scripts.
The previous developer was developing apps in CGI, and it’s almost obsolete now, so I was thinking to convert those apps in cf or asp.
But .cgi/perl scripts are very confusing.

I thought maybe some knows about any tool who can at least convert those Perl scripts to any language which then easy to understand

But thanks anyway.

No, not to my knowledge. I think that generic CGI programs might be

I don't know, but it should be easy enough to check. Just comment out the

Re: Oracle connection refused error with CFSCHEDULE task only

2004-09-24 Thread Adrocknaphobia
Any hints in your oracle logs? I don't think it matters what local
account is used to run the scheduler as it is accessing everything it
needs and making the request to Oracle. There is somthing about that
connection/session that oracle doesn't like.

This sounds really stupid, but if you don't have anything better to
try why not call the template you are trying to execute via cfhttp.
Then setup the template which makes teh cfhttp call in the scheduler.

I would imagine if it has anything to do at all with how the scheduler
processes the template, this should work.

What drivers are you using?

Issues searching for text within files

2004-09-24 Thread Angela Renkosik
set up a verity collection and indexed a directory of .cfm files on our server that I want to be able to search the contents for some string values. I did a cfsearch with the criteria as * so I could be sure the all the files were indexed and they were. So I did a cfsearch for a particular word that I had a count of occurrences from doing a grep search which returned a resultset of 12 files. Using cfsearch only 6 files were returned to me. I've tried switching to the k2 engine. I've tried searching other words and find the same issue---not an accurate resultset. One of the text strings appears in the same manner in one file as it does in another (it's the name of a procedure that is in the cfstoredproc procedure attribute) yet only one of the of the files comes back in the result set. This is my cfsearch text:
cfsearch collection=SMC
name=smc_search
type=simple
criteria=#lcase(form.search_string)#

If I switch the type to explicit, I get this error: coldfusion.tagext.lang.CFSearchTagException: Error # -2 Error E1-0106 (Query Builder): No topic built..

Does anyone have any ideas?

It could be, even if the users do not log in, they have a default user account, ISSR_USER or something like that on Windows systems, and even this default basic user often has more permissions then the default system user that the CF service runs under. The way to check this is to go to Admin - Services on the server, right click on the Cold Fusion Application Server Service, select Properties and then the Log On tab.It is probably set to the default Local System account. If so, try selecting This account and then give it an account you know has plenty of permissions (such as yours). Then of course restart the service.See if this fixes the problem. If it does, then you will probably want to create an account specifically for the Cold Fusion Server, and then assign the appropriate permissions to this account. That is what we have done here.

This is of course assuming a Windows server; I have no knowledge on how this works in the linix/unix world.

I'm not sure if this applies to a problem with the query, but I have often found this is the problem if a template works when directly browsed but does not work when accessed by CFSCHEDULE.

RE: Oracle connection refused error with CFSCHEDULE task only

It could be, even if the users do not log in, they have a
default user account, ISSR_USER or something like that on
Windows systems, and even this default basic user often has
more permissions then the default system user that the CF
 service runs under.

There are two problems with that theory. First, when you use CFSCHEDULE or
CFHTTP, the CF server simply sends an HTTP request to your web server. If
you don't provide a username and password, and none is needed for that URL,
IIS will use the anonymous login to authenticate against the OS. So, that
shouldn't make any difference. Second, the anonymous login account
(IUSR_WHATEVER) is a guest account and has very few privileges by default.
CF, on the other hand, runs as SYSTEM by default, which is a very privileged
local security context. As long as CF doesn't require any resources
elsewhere on the network, SYSTEM is as privileged as you can get!

the database drivers, and in the vast majority of cases the newer ones work

The release notes for the CFMX 6.1 Updater (http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/coldfusion/mx61updater/releasenotes_cfmx61_updater.html) clearly explain installation procedures and requirements for the different configurations of ColdFusion including running on top of JRun.

RE: Linux IDE

2004-09-24 Thread Matt Liotta
We don't currently support Linux as we only have installers for Windows and
Mac OS X. He3 will run on Linux, but it is expected you know what you are
doing. That will change in the future when we provide installers for Linux
as well.

With all that being said, if you want to run He3 on Linux and need some help
we are glad to help. I highly recommend the He3 mailing list, which is
hosted by House of Fusion.

cflocation inside of cflock?

2004-09-24 Thread Adrienne Brown
Quick question...If I put a cflocation tag inside of a cflock tag, will it prevent the lock from being released? Here's an example situation:

cflock name=addProgram timeout=15
	cfinvoke component=components.engineer_skill method=checkProgram returnvariable=checkProgram argumentcollection=#FORM#
	cfif checkProgram.RecordCount NEQ 0
cfset SESSION.message = The program you selected has already been added to this skill.
	cfelse
		cfinvoke component=components.engineer_skill method=insertProgram argumentcollection=#FORM#
		cfinvokeargument name=SKILLSET_ID value=#SESSION.SKILLSET_ID#
	/cfinvoke
cfset SESSION.message = You have successfully added a program.
	cflocation url="" addtoken=no
	/cfif
	/cflock

Should I end the lock before doing the cflocation?

Database Management Tool

2004-09-24 Thread Daniel Kessler
I'm only allowed to access our Oracle DBs through CF.So, I was
wondering if there was a DB management tool built on CF that I could
drop into my site (free is best since I have no budget here, but I
would like to know either way).
I want to be able to edit information in tables and other basic
functions - nothin fancy schmancy.I just want to give it a
datasource and go.
I did a search on database management tools and it returned very little.

thanks!

If you're running CFMX on top of JRun, I was under the impression that JRun

You are on CFMX, are you absolutely certain you need the cflock? If
so, I suggest clocking only what you need and using the scope
attribute too.Something like this.

cflock name=addProgram timeout=15
cfinvoke component=components.engineer_skill method=checkProgram
returnvariable=checkProgram argumentcollection=#FORM#
cfif checkProgram.RecordCount NEQ 0
cflock scope=session timeout=15
cfset SESSION.message = The program you selected has already been
added to this skill.
/cflock
cfelse
cfinvoke component=components.engineer_skill method=insertProgram
argumentcollection=#FORM#
cfinvokeargument name=SKILLSET_ID value=#SESSION.SKILLSET_ID#
/cfinvoke
cflock scope=session timeout=15
cfset SESSION.message = You have successfully added a program.
/cflock
cflocation url="">
addtoken=no
/cfif

IIRC, the instructions for the CFMX updater for the CFMX on JRun
installs said to run the JRun updater first, then the CFMX updater.
Having followed that, nothing to do.

Is there any particular reason that you're looking for Express? As I
remember the it's actually based on CF 4.5 and lacks quire a bit of the
functionality is missing.

On the other hand BlueDragon is (I'm almost sure) free for such a purpose,
has much more functionality and is (damn near) feature compatible with CF
MX.Check out NewAtlanta.com for more information - I think you'll be
pleasantly surprised.
