The Jrun used with a CF Standalone install has no real security - you might
try to edit the java security policy file directly but I doubt that would be
easy. The JSP files then run with no sandboxing, able to veiw the entire
server and do everything that an unsandboxed CF install can do.

RE: Java jar/class locations without restart

2005-06-14 Thread Chris Terrebonne
Thanks for the info Mark.

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] 06/13/05 07:43AM
I don't think you'll find a way for jars to be picked up
automatically... I'm not aware of a way to do that in regular java
(JVM settings, etc), so unless they have special class loader stuff
explicitly for jars, or unless you find some code to do it yourself, I
think you're out of luck.

Basically, if you drop a class file in a classpath directory then it
will be found (but not reloaded when it changes), but only jars
explicitly mentioned in the classpath will be ever be searched; jars not
mentioned are ignored.

Again, you can probably do a custom classloader to get around this, but
I've never used one.

Subject: Java jar/class locations without restart

I am reposting this question. I should have known better than to post
on a Friday. ;)

I am trying to determine where I can store Java jar files that will
allow CF to find them WITHOUT reloading the server. Is this possible?
Placing the jars in the WEB-INF/lib directory doesn't work without a
restart, BUT.. adding classes to the WEB-INF/classes directory does.
Why is it that CF can load classes without a restart but not jars? Is
there something I'm missing here? Is there another location to place
the jars so CF can find them without a restart?

Thanks,
Chris

I can't elaborate on any fiddling with the java security policy - I'm
just guessing that something might be possible (although I have doubts).

As for the JSP security problem, here's the links I've been sending to

Using CF5 and CF6 in one application

2005-06-14 Thread Mike Oakes
We have an application that runs partly under CF5 (FB3) and partly under
CFMX (FB4.1).
Both parts have the same application name.

If control is passed from one part to the other, by an a href with
cfid:cftoken being preserved, it seems that the client-variables db gets
updated incompatibly by the 2 versions of CF.
In particular, the data field of the CGLOBAL table is malformed (it starts
with an = sign).
The result is that client.xxx cannot be evaluated by CF5.

Is anyone away of this problem, and possible work-arounds?

Is it perhaps something to do with case-sensitivity, for example?

Quick OT Javascript question. PART 2

2005-06-14 Thread Jeff Waris
Another question:

In my previous question.. I needed to grab the currently selected option
from a select list.

I can now get the selected value using this code...

var SelOpt = document.myform.colors.options.selectedIndex;
var colortype = document.myform.colors[SelOpt].value;

I now need to get the value of a hidden input that is dynamically named from
the select list value...

Visusally it looks like this...

select name=colors
cfloop query=color_names
option value=#name##name#/option
input type=hidden name=#name# value=#rating#
/cfloop

I am looking to get the RATING value.
I can get the selected NAME using the code above, but my attempts to extract
the hidden variable have been unsuccessful.

I've tried:

var amt = 'document.myform.' + colortype + '.value';
and
var amt = document.myform.colortype.value';

I'm stumped.. Any suggestions???

Thanks,

Yup. Use this notation:

document.myform[colortype].value;

From the looks of your code, the generated HTML will look something like
this:

select

input type=hidden ... /

optionasasa/option

input type=hidden ... /

optionasasas/option

input type=hidden ... /

optionsasasa/option

/select

Is that ok for you?

any reason you are puttting all these into hidden form values? Why not
just build and associative array and use that to lookuop the rating it
will save bandwidth, it will be valid, and look more professional. The
lookup would be the same AsociativeArrayName[selectedValue] will give

Re: Using a directory path as a switch statement

2005-06-14 Thread Deanna Schneider
Here's something that I use:
!--- Get the current folder ---
cfscript
function getDir() {
var directory = '';
var path = gettemplatepath();
directory = listgetat(path, (listfind(path, 4h, /) + 1), /);
return directory;
}
/cfscript

cftry
cfinclude template=#cffourhrootpath#/cfincludes/header_#getdir()#.cfm
cfcatch
cfinclude template=#cffourhrootpath#/cfincludes/header.cfm
/cfcatch
/cftry

In our case, we're discounting the 4h directory, and then we only
care about the next directory under that.

MS SQL - Cannot Find Stored Procedure

2005-06-14 Thread Protoculture
I've created the stored procedure in the Enterprise Manager on our Dev Server.
Its the same code that's used on our live site so I know it works. However,
Coldfusion returns an error that says the stored procedure cannot be found.

Another thing : is that when I go to run the stored procedure again ( see code
below ), it tells me that it cannot find it in the system catalog. ( whatever
that means ). But it DOES appear in the stored procedure list.

Checked permissions and they seem fine as well.

Code at top of the stored procedure...

IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM sysobjects WHERE name = 'Get_Adverts' AND uid =
user_id('myuid') AND type = 'P') DROP PROCEDURE Get_Adverts

GO

Below is a link to check out a flash form I'm experementing with and the
code I'm using to create it. My question concerns the scrollbar display.
Notice when you load my form that there are two scrollbars. I don't
understand why and short of removing the height specification for the
PAGE, I can't make the second (outside bar) go away. I've tried messing
with all of the size values, but haven't found any combination that
helped. Anyone have any ideas???

Yep.. I had to make a couple changes where my hidden list is looped AFTER

 Yup. Use this notation:

 document.myform[colortype].value;

 From the looks of your code, the generated HTML will look
 something like
 this:

 select

   optionasas/option

   input type=hidden ... /

   optionasasa/option

   input type=hidden ... /

   optionasasas/option

   input type=hidden ... /

   optionsasasa/option

 /select

 Is that ok for you?

RE: Quick OT Javascript question. PART 2

2005-06-14 Thread Micha Schopman
This is prohibited by specs, a select element is not allowed to contain
a input element.

You might better use either a 2d array - var tmp [[0,1],[0,1]] or a
struct - var tmp {name:'value',name:'value'}

Subject: Quick OT Javascript question. PART 2

Another question:

In my previous question.. I needed to grab the currently selected option
from a select list.

I can now get the selected value using this code...

var SelOpt = document.myform.colors.options.selectedIndex;
var colortype = document.myform.colors[SelOpt].value;

I now need to get the value of a hidden input that is dynamically named
from
the select list value...

Visusally it looks like this...

select name=colors
cfloop query=color_names
option value=#name##name#/option
input type=hidden name=#name# value=#rating#
/cfloop

I am looking to get the RATING value.
I can get the selected NAME using the code above, but my attempts to
extract
the hidden variable have been unsuccessful.

I've tried:

var amt = 'document.myform.' + colortype + '.value';
and
var amt = document.myform.colortype.value';

I'm stumped.. Any suggestions???

Thanks,
Jeff

CF Server Crashing

2005-06-14 Thread Protoculture
Trying to figure out why one of our servers keeps crashing. Like about 1-4
times per week it needs restarting.

The guy at the isp said that it was due to a directory we had ( about 50,000
word doc files at a total of 2.7 gigs ) and said CF was crapping out when it
opened the directory to retrieve single word doc files.

Yes, when you open the directory through FTP or windows explorer THEN it takes
a long time to open it, but NOT when pointed to directly through a url string,
it will simply ask user to download etc... and there appears to be no apparent
server problem.

Any ideas?

RE: flash forms accordion scrollbars

2005-06-14 Thread Mike Klostermeyer
I know that isn't the problem, just needed a working example to play with.
The problem is with the height in the ACCORDION definition:

cfformgroup type=ACCORDION height=275 width=275

(changed height from 250 to 275) works as you would like. As you increase
the number of accordion panes, this value will have to increase as well.

I'm not sure what you mean by the main user, but it's clear that the login
you're using doesn't have rights to create procedures. That's usually a good
thing; the login used by your application doesn't typically need to create,
alter or drop schema objects.

 I've always seen it as a best practice I've seen no
 performance hits. I have to deal with FoxPro tables along
 with SQL Server, and this seems to work when the FoxPro guys
 make table changes.

That's about as far from a best practice as you can get, with MS SQL Server.
It's a terrible thing to do if you're using SQL Server, in most cases.
There's quite a bit of overhead in creating and destroying database
connections unnecessarily.

creating new database connections unnecessarily is expensive - that's why

Yes, there are all sorts of possible reasons. Did you examine the generated

Re: cfeclipse and cfmx7

2005-06-14 Thread Simeon Bateman
Dave is correct. release 1.1.18.12 included updated libraries for cf7.

CFEclipse is a project driven by the community, and in truth most of
the must have features have been added. Currently the project team
is making a road map so we can start developing CFE with a path.

Keep an eye out for updates on CFEclipse.

RE: [QUARRANTINE]CFDUMP and value formatting

2005-06-14 Thread Dawson, Michael
11/14/1979 is a string. Now() and createdate() and parsedatetime()
etc.
create datetime objects.

When you say that these create datetime objects, do they only create
correct-formatted date/time strings or is there an actual object
underneath?

If there is an object can't you do something like:

cfset myDate = now()

cfoutput#myDate.hour()#/cfoutout

If you can't do that sort of stuff, then I would assume that CF just
passes strings as date/time objects.

(I haven't tested any of this because I'm running a bunch of SQL Server
imports right now.)

RE: MS SQL - Cannot Find Stored Procedure

2005-06-14 Thread James Holmes
I concur - for a while we had to do this with Oracle (until newer
DataDirect drivers came out) due to connection pooling errors and each
DB connection took 200ms. At least CF only made one connection per CF
page request, not per query, but it still sucked.

 Elaborate please... I'll swear that MM used to recommend this as a
 best practice.. I need all the SQL Server performance I can get, If
 I'm doing something wrong I'd like to correct it..

To the best of my knowledge, Macromedia has never recommended this. I
can see why you might want to do it if you're using FoxPro, but not with
MS SQL Server or any other enterprise database server. I don't know how
much I can elaborate beyond that, without specific questions, other than
to say that creating new database connections unnecessarily is expensive
- that's why connection pooling is provided.

You can restart the system a million times, and that will not help you if
you are not using the correct login to run the procedure. Try running the
procedure as username.procedure instead of just procedure, where the
username is the one you used to create the procedure in the first place.

Trying to figure out why one of our servers keeps crashing. Like about
1-4 times per week it needs restarting.

The guy at the isp said that it was due to a directory we had ( about
50,000 word doc files at a total of 2.7 gigs ) and said CF was crapping
out when it opened the directory to retrieve single word doc files.

Yes, when you open the directory through FTP or windows explorer THEN it
takes a long time to open it, but NOT when pointed to directly through a
url string, it will simply ask user to download etc... and there appears
to be no apparent server problem.

Any ideas?

RE: CF Server Crashing

2005-06-14 Thread James Holmes
They have a good theory, except that CF doesn't participate in non-CF
pages. Once the webserver (IIS, Apache, whatever) connector decides that
it's a request for the webserver and not CF (because it isn't a .cfm,
..cfc .jsp extension or anything defined as a servlet mapping) CF has
nothing more to do with it and it's the webserver's problem.

Is there a way to execute a windows scheduled task through CF? I know I

 My understanding was that they were Java datetime objects in CF6 and

 simply specially formatted strings, but I thought that was just the

RE: CF on shared hosting

2005-06-14 Thread Calvin Ward
Security through obscurity doesn't really resolve anything. While a step by
step isn't necessary, a more enlightening description would be useful.

The next question would be how much of this impacts hosts that offer .jsp
regardless of app server in shared hosting environments, or do any? (I've
never looked for that kind of hosting, heck I haven't looked for shared
hosting in 6 years for that matter).

No, you aren't missing anything - it's just a demo of how failing to disable
JSP can lead to a hacked website, because that's how I added the blog
(hacking).

I didn't really want to give a script kiddie step-by-step (there's enough
out there already without giving them even more info) but I can send more

You will need to examine the document directly, with a regular text editor,
rather than opening it directly within Word. There are a variety of ways you
can go about this. If your browser prompts you to open or save the document,
save it, then open it with Notepad or another ASCII editor. If your browser
doesn't prompt you, you might fetch it with a command-line HTTP client like
wget.

Re: reverse compliment a sequence

2005-06-14 Thread Ben Doom
Offhand, using a placeholder and a series of replace()'s will work:

replace(text, 'g', '|', 'all')
replace(text, 'c', 'g', 'all')
replace(text, '|', 'c', 'all')
replace(text, 'a', '|', 'all')
replace(text, 't', 'a', 'all')
replace(text, '|', 't', 'all')

replacelist() may work. I'm not sure if it's serial for each item in
the list or parallel, and I'm too lazy to investigate. :-)

Function or CFC: reverse compliment a sequence

2005-06-14 Thread Richard Colman
 So, I am going to use this a bunch of times. Is this kind of thing best
setup up as a custom function or CFC?

Well, it needs to be done a character at a time, so, I am not entirely sure
that

replace (ACTG,TGAC, all) would work in all cases.

However, Barney's solution is quite elegant!

TNX to both of you for helping with a common genomics transformation.

 I need to to reverse compliment a nucleotide sequence, so

C become a G
G becomes a C
A becomes a T
T becomes an A

I need to go through a string a character at a time and build a new string.

So:

ACTG becomes TGAC

At first sight, simply
replace (ACTG,TGAC, all)
should do it, but I suspect the problem to be a little more complex, can you
give us more detail (may be a link) about what a nucleotide sequence may
look like?

I see no reason to keep state so I would make it a UDF. Input the
original string and return the compliment.

Yes!

To provide a more serious and hopefully more useful answer, you should
certainly use one or the other, but which one you use is up to you and how
the rest of your code is structured, and whether you find an object-oriented
approach to problem-solving to be useful.

It depends - if you have a bunch of functions like this then it can be
really nice to maintain them in a CFC - but you have to instantiate the CFC
to access the functions.

If it's in few places then a UDF is quicker and simpler - but you have to
make sure to import it everywhere it's used (or import it in the application
initialization which means it will be exist for every request).

The replace idea below will work as long as those temporary values don't

2005-06-14 Thread Ben Doom
4 temp values is overkill. You only need 2 (one for the a-z and one
for the g-c; you can actually use the same char for both).

atgcacgt

a-z : ztgczcgt
t-a : zagczcga
z-t : tagctcga
g-z : tazctcza
c-g : tazgtgza
t-c : tacgtgca

atgcacgt
tacgtgca

So, you get the correct compliment.

 Replace() will work if you use *four* temporary values.

 Replace 'a' with '1'
 Replace 'c' with '2'
 Replace 'g' with '3'
 Replace 't' with '4'

 Then

 Replace '1' with 't'
 Replace '2' with 'g'
 Replace '3' with 'c'
 Replace '4' with 'a'

 Then, you mix in some love and you have a dino-baby.

 the replace idea won't work. it will replace all 'a' with 'z', then
 replace all 'z' with 't'

 this leads to all 'a' being replaced with 't', not with all 'a' being
 replaced with 't'.

Re: reverse compliment a sequence

2005-06-14 Thread Barney Boisvert
DNA is composed of only those 4 nucleotides, so any other values can't
occur within the string. Hence the temp value solution works. If
not, then you'd have to do the live replace method that your or I
proposed. I suspect my solution would be significantly faster,
particularly over longer strings, but it's the same idea.

 Yes sorry, I meant the replace idea outlined in the quoted section of my

 The replace idea below will work as long as those temporary values don't
 exist anywhere in the original string, which seems a risky assumption.
 Not knowing the original values though, I can't speak for that.

Since he's looking for a DNA sequence compliment, we know that the only
chars present will be a,t,g,c -- the four types in DNA. Maybe not
common knowledge, though.

Frequently, I use chr(7) == 'bell' because the bell symbol is generally
untypable.  :-)

Should work.

RE: can dump or cfoutput, but can not open in application-xml?

2005-06-14 Thread Kevin Aebig
I've had similar issues with using / generating xml with Coldfusion. For
your particular issue, I used the cfsilent tag as well as cfsetting
enabledebuggingoutput=no to stop any extra characters from showing up...

I believe it was Emmet who actually found some hidden characters before the
xml that couldn't be seen in notepad with a hex editor...

Cheers,

Kevin

 The doc downloaded from local server has a few line spaces at
 the beginning. Now I know that this is why it keeps showing
 the error message. Why does it create these line spaces?

Presumably, because you have some server-side code that is being executed,
and once that code is executed the client just receives the blank line where
the code would have been. Why don't you get rid of the white space using the
RESET attribute of the CFCONTENT tag, right before your content?

cfwhatever ...
.
/cfwhatever

cfcontent type=whateverMIMEtypeyou'reusing reset=yes?xml
version=1.0 ...

Not every machine has shutdown.exe (none of my win2k desktop or server
systems has it). Even so there is still a way to do this:

cfexecute

arguments=/reboot
/cfexecute

done
