Conditionally check a cfinput checkbox

2006-01-15 Thread Will Tomlinson
Trying to conditionally check my checkboxes depending on the db field being 0
or 1, but it errors.

 cfinput type=checkbox
   label=Ships to PO boxes
name=shipoptionshiptopobox
 value=1
  cfif getshipoptions.shipoptionshiptopobox EQ 1 checked=yes/cfif

The error:
Invalid token 'c' found on line 71 at column 4.

How do I pre-select the checkbox?

Thanks,
Will

RE: Conditionally check a cfinput checkbox

2006-01-15 Thread Adrian Lynch
You can't put cf tags in cf tags like that.

if condition
checked = yes
else
checked = no

input checked=#checked#

Something like that.

RE: cf open shopping cart

2006-01-15 Thread Andy
John, well said. That, ultimately, is why I don't find the progress we are
having disheartening. For example, I've been out of the country the last
two weeks putting in 16-18 days. Not much chance of me doing anything on
the open source project. Now I am trying to get some work done on it.

So, if folks will just take the time to provide advice when they have the
time to spare, and any code that they are willing to share, our small band
of merry folks will do our best to advance the project.

Dave, not trying to beat a dead horse but (last comments) you would be
thoroughly surprised what other people have on their plates and as someone
put it...coding after a long day of work is not ideal for some people
(especially if you have a family that includes young children). We all
contribute to the community in some way shape or form: articles, answer ?'s
on this list, free software, etc. There are the Ray's who do all 3 and then
some. :-)

All is well...

Instead of going off on certain ppl this time I will refrain lol, Got
my first apple laptop and I would rather play with that then bicker
 with some of you.

The reason I brought it all up is that i am on all the lists to do the
cart and I haven't heard a peep at all from any of them. I'm glad to
see Andy is still going but if I am on the list to help and I haven't
heard a thing then it appears to be dead. o maybe letting us know
 would be a good start.

Anyways, I am as busy as anyone here and I will make time to help out,
just let me know what you need from me Andy.

My first trip for photoshoots with the girls starts this month (got a

I think what most ppl here dont understand is that they can help
without spending a lot of time thats why I suggested everyone take a
small piece and get it done then go back and tweek it all to be
consistant. I'm sure everyone here could take a small part and spend
2-3 hours total over a week to make a part of it.

Ok maybe 'bickering' is too strong a word, but it didnt look to me
like the kind of productive, energetic, progressive discussion I see
happening on the CFEclipse and Model-glue lists for example. As i
said, it could well be that the initial wide-ranging stuff has now
been narrowed down to a more focussed point, and what seemed like a
cloud of ideas has now gelled into an organised project. rely

I lost track of the project when it moved off CF-Talk, but at the time
that happened, it didnt look to me like it was going to [A] offer me
anything i could use that i didn't already have, and/or [B] offer an
opportunity for me to learn at the same time as contributing something
back to the cf community that has supported me so well over all these
 years since cF4.0.1

Your post, Andy, puts an entirely different perspective on it. Thanks
 for your post.

Where can those of us who are interested in the project, but not
 currently involved, find out more?

Re: Encrypt CC number and store in DB

2006-01-15 Thread Bryan Stevenson

I have seen many instances where a site will collect all of the order
information (including CC details), and then store it for manual processing
later. They do not have online credit card processing, and instead review
each order and then charge the card using an existing terminal at their
store. Because of the low volume of orders, many times it doesn't make
sense to pay monthly for online processing when they already have a physical
terminal present that they can run the cards on.

I don't know how well that flies with Visa/MC regulations, but this setup is
more common than you might think.

 -Justin

Common or not the CC companies will spank you silly if they find a merchant
doing that...VERY against the regs!!...and the fines would not be pretty...far
more than monthly Tx fees...and WAY more dangerous from a liability standpoint.

I was actually curious about that book as well. My goal from this point
forward was to write all of my code in CFCs only. I haven't written a
CF function yet as I haven't been ready for the transition, but it
doesn't look like it's going to be that tough. You might also want to
check out Hal's occasional newsletter that also has info about CFCs.

Another book I'm debating getting is Design Patterns: Elements of
Reusable Object-Oriented Software from the Gang of Four:

I've heard it's good and it's gotten great reviews.

I have got it and it is a pretty good book. The problem with it is that
it was written for early CFCs ... i.e. in the CFMX 6 timeframe. With CFMX
6.1 and 7, things have changed in the CFC area fixing some of the issues
outlined in the book. Still a good book, just a bit dated.

flaw with the book is it is written for 6.0 CFCs, if I am remembering the

There are no good books for learning CFCs (Hal's book is very
out-of-date because of changes in components since it was written).
Well, you can learn the basic syntax from the CFMX documentation (the
Developer's Guide improves with every release and is definitely worth
reading). Beyond the syntax, there are no good *books* for learning
how to program effectively with CFCs. There are lots of good blogs and
the cfcdev mailing list is a must-read.

Category/sub-categories

2006-01-15 Thread Mike | NZSolutions Ltd
Hi guys,

For a shopping cart app I created last year, I had one level of
categories eg. category/product

Now, I wish to expand on that and include 1 more level eg.
category/subcategory/product

A particular subcategory may apply to more than one category eg. winter
2006/accessories, spring 2006/accessories

Should I be looking at 2 different tables eg. tblCategory,
tblSubCategory and using joining tables to the products table.

Or should I have one category table with one joining table and use a
nest hierarchy system. I did a very simple nested hierarchy scheme last
year for an app which did have its benefits in terms of unlimited
levels.

same here..probably an even higher percentage...I wish gmail would
have an option to not mark labeled items as spam...I have a filter to
mark things sent to cf-talk with a cftalk label and have them skip
the inbox...the annoying thing is that when you un-spam the spammed
items, gmail returns them to the inbox! If anyone comes up with a
neat solution, let me knowit happens on a bio-fuels group I
subscribe to as well. I have sent a message to the big g about it.

I've contacted Google about it through proper channels and if I don't hear
back in the coming week, I'll use some of my non-proper channels. :)
It may be the change-over in IP from 64.118.74.245 to 64.118.74.249.
Personally, I have not seen more than a handful of messages set to spam, but
different accounts probably have different thresholds for spam. It should
clear up over time as people notice the messages set to spam and fix it.
I'll see what heading changes can be made to speed up the process.

Hi guys,

For a shopping cart app I created last year, I had one level of categories
eg. category/product

Now, I wish to expand on that and include 1 more level eg.
category/subcategory/product

A particular subcategory may apply to more than one category eg. winter
2006/accessories, spring 2006/accessories

Should I be looking at 2 different tables eg. tblCategory, tblSubCategory
and using joining tables to the products table.

Or should I have one category table with one joining table and use a nest
hierarchy system. I did a very simple nested hierarchy scheme last year for
an app which did have its benefits in terms of unlimited levels.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Actually this may be a topic that the
open source shopping cart developers might have have or have not touched on

cfthrow a custom exception. If you already outputted something

CF 5 Form validation Question

2006-01-15 Thread Les Mizzell
Argh - trying to dev a CF 5 app on box running MX 7 - and I can't always
remember what won't work in CF 5!

OK - form validation...

cfinput id=firstName
  name=firstName
  type=text
  required=Yes
message=You must enter your first name
  maxLength=25 /

According to CF 5 docs, I don't see a darned thing wrong with that. It
runs fine locally too. When I put it out on the testing server (CF
version unknown, but probably 6 or something...), the above is IGNORED
completely and the form submits...

If I do a view-source for the page containing the form, the proper
javascript seems to have been generated for the page.

Any idea what might be causing this?

Hey Bobby, just checked out your site and read the Gone phishing entry...
Just wondering why you didn't just use cfhttp and used MacroExpress instead?
CFHTTP would be a lot faster, and more efficient, and not require you to
have 3 computer running just to post some data to some scammer's form. And
if he's smart at all, he's collection source ip addresses and can trash the

RE: CF Debugging CSS Layout

2006-01-15 Thread Russ
I know that CF would be faster then some crappy macro language running on
top of IIS. And even if by some magic it wasn't, there is an implementation
somewhere that lets you have multiple threads on a CF page.

If I was really worried about performance, I'd just code something up in
java with multiple threads that would do the job a lot faster. I doubt that
the web server would have trouble keeping up with me, and if it did, I can
always throttle back on the # of threads.

And I never said he was smart... just maybe smart enough from previous
experiences to start logging ips as well... if not, he should be doing it
from now on... if he doesn't he's an idiot.

So I'd be glad to challenge you if you want, but I assume everyone would
agree with me that CFHTTP is faster then some crappy macro language, and
that CF with multiple threads beats any macro language hands down.

I had to slow the latest one down (still macros) because it was more or less

Doesn't much matter how many threads you have going if the connection on the
