Re: Text file created on windows published to unix

2007-07-18 Thread Jordan Michaels
Occasionally windows/dos characters get in the way when read in *nix
environments. To "correct" a file like that, try running "dos2unix" on
it. It's a command-line utility designed to translate any
dos-differences to their *nix equivalents. dos2unix ships with most
common distros.

>From the command-line:

# dos2unix myfile.xslt

You can use this to rule out any potential *nix problems from files
created on a windows machine.

Hope this helps!

Text file created on windows published to unix

2007-07-18 Thread Ian Skinner
And causing me some grief.

I get this error when my CF app tries to work with an XSLT file created
on my Windows workstation and published to a UNIX/Apache server. Can
anybody give me the quickest and easiest way to fix this? I presume
this is related to the difference between Win and Unix text end of
line|file characters.

An error occured while Parsing an XML document.
Premature end of file.

The error occurred in
/export/home/tools/troublelog/Model/troubleLogDAO.cfc: line 85

85 : troubleEntryXML =
xmlParse(xmlTransform(xmlData,replace(variables.readXSLT,'~idString~',arguments.id)));

Re: Stopping a Screen Scrape

2007-07-18 Thread Cameron Childress
Recourse against what?

Once a company gets to the point of intentionally breaking their product
to make it less useful to their customers, it's a very bad sign. I have
no idea why either party would still want to be in such a business
relationship unless one is holding the other's data hostage, which is
what it sounds like is happening.

There may be no legal recourse, but that doesn't make it right.

Dave,

I am not totally sure here but I think replacing it with %20 would be
the only way to keep it from truncating. I think the truncating is

Re: Stopping a Screen Scrape

I believe Cameron was questioning the morality of designing something
like that instead of the technical issues.

Personally, I think that if I provide data to your company, I should be
able to scrape it back if I'm already paying for your service. It's kind
of ass-hatish to do what you are considering doing.

However, I know it's not your decision to make. Just sayin. :)

Re: Stopping a Screen Scrape

we know that they are downloading it for quickbooks import to the
easiest way to stop that would be to save it as a graphic. You may be
able to import the graphic into quickbooks but it is not going to import
the information line by line. They would have to manually enter the data.

Re: Stopping a Screen Scrape

2007-07-18 Thread Randy Johnson
MS Excel will allow you to copy and paste a table into it and it will
magically convert it, so it will take more than a hidden div with funky
characters to stop them from scraping it. If the data is in table
format, unless you some how managed to randomize the columns and keep
the formatting straight I don't see how you could stop them.

Hi,

I'm trying to download files with this:

Whenever the filename contains spaces, the "What do you want
to do with this file" prompt truncates the filename. I can obviously
replace the spaces with underscore, %20 or something, but wondered if
there was a way to preserve the filename as is, and get the full name in
the prompt?

Only in MS SQL Server. In databases that use multiversioning (Oracle,
PostgreSQL, MySQL/InnoDB, Firebird etc.) writers do not block readers.

Yes it is; FF makes no problem.

I've just found that the same problem was found by the FCK Editor

I'm implementing their solution int my own editor. Not really simple :-(

Thanks.

Re: Javascript problem with IE

2007-07-18 Thread Christopher Jordan
Could that possibly be an IIS thing (or Apache if that's what you're using)?
I've never had IE put something other than what I told it to when I
manipulate the DOM like that. Of course, I'm using
jQuerythese days to accomplish this sort of thing,
but even before that when I
wasn't I never saw this happen before. I have to admit to not using anchor
tags in my apps too much. I typically bind an element to the click event, so
I could be wrong about all this.

Good luck!

That's what I'd do (or find out if there is already a CFUG chapter in your
area). Also, this is sort of the coal of RIAForge.org, GotCFM.com, and sites
like that. I guess another way to introduce it would be to (if you're a
contractor) suggest to all of your clients that they make the switch. You
could point to the laundry list of *huge* companies and government
(including military) entities who already use ColdFusion. Ben Forta's blog
is also another great place that has a list of folks who use CF.

Maybe you could have a parade too. ;o)

Good luck, and spread the word my brotha!

Re: Stopping a Screen Scrape

2007-07-18 Thread Cameron Childress
Does this application contain financial data for the company? Are they
attempting to get access to their own financial information in order to
put it into QB and run their business? Your employer wants to prevent
them from doing this? This raises a ton of ethical and moral
questions. I know you are not the one making the call here, but
seriously, if a company I was doing business with was ACTIVELY
preventing me from gaining access to my own financial data things could
escalate very quickly.

Having said that - if this company is actually doing something that
violates a legal agreement you have with them somehow, simply shutting
off access to the site should fix the problem. If this is data going
into QB, they much be authenticating to get to it (unless the financial
data is out in the open for all to see). Just shut them off and resolve it.

Javascript problem with IE

2007-07-18 Thread Claude Schneegans
Hi,

I know this is a CF list, but who uses CF without Javascript? ;-)

Here is the problem:

I have an online HTML editor which works pretty well, except that any
relative href addresses are
transformed into absolute addresses, ie : href="mypage.htm" becomes
href="http://mySite/directoryOfTheTextEditor/mypage.htm";

Apparently, setting the innerHTML is the source of the problem.

The code below illustrates the problem:

function setHTML()
 {
 var div = document.getElementById("testDiv");
 div.innerHTML = 'Test href'
 alert(div.innerHTML)
 }

test

When someone clicks on the button, is inserted into
the innerHTML of the div,
however, the alert then shows http://localhost/test/test.htm";>

This problem is with IE 6, with FireFox the address is unchanged; under
IE 7, I don't know.

Does someone know some way I could get IE to mind its own business?

I'm able to manage my addresses myself ;-)

Printing is the point of the report... hitting print screen would be fine. I am
just looking for a way to obfuscate the printer friendly from scrape technology
that would convert the output HTML to say a CSV or pipe delimited.

I agree that "stopping" somebody intent on this is improbable. they could scan
the print out w/ a fax reader if they so desired. I'm just trying to add enough
of a pain in the butt that it'll make the easily dettered quit.

Re: Stopping a Screen Scrape

2007-07-18 Thread J.J. Merrick
I was going to suggest sending the report to a PDF and turning off copy and
pasting... but then I read it was CF5 so yeah you are just going to have to
make it HARDER to do but I don't think you can prevent it totally.

Re: Stopping a Screen Scrape

2007-07-18 Thread Jerry Johnson
As we all know, the bane of scraping is inconsistency, and changing specs.

So, make sure your page is inconsistent and changes constantly.

Add extra divs, change the id and names of the divs, change the style
and other attributes on each page load, Change the number and
attributes or div, span, tr, td, table calls.

You dont need to make it crack proof, just need to make it harder than
the upgrade costs.

It is not a print screen you are worried about, it is converting the
html print data to a db cheaply and easily.

If they want to rekey the data, fine. If they can way more cost
effectively "steal" it, they often will.

CFR compatibility between CF7 and CF8?

2007-07-18 Thread John Paul Ashenfelter
Folks,

I'm sure I'm just not looking in the right place in the beta docs for
CF8, but I'm curious if I can build reports in CF8 Report Builder (on
Windows, of course) and then run the resulting report successfully on
CF7.

Any advice?

What it seems to sound like is that the database differences need to
be managed somewhat like the code -- with the capability to
branch/merge/etc. There are ways to set that up, ranging from db
scripts to storing the appropriate version of the actual database (in
this case, a .BAK file perhaps) in the source control system. For
example, using SVN, you can define an external link from a particular
codebase to a particular branch or even revision of the database
repository/tree/branch and lock the two (code and data) together. Add
a generic osql load script to load the db into your local MSSQL and
you're set (though a naming convention probably helps keep running the
multiple versions in check)

Of course MySQL (which I'm a huge fan of) now effectively charges for
the Windows version (or at least they're not compiling it) so you need
their Enterprise subscription, which is really cool, or the patience
to compile it under Windows.

And it's all a moot point if you've got multiple clients with MSSQL
databases -- you'll need a way to manage MSSQL on the developer's side
and that's MSSQL Dev Edition.

I think as an intellectual challenge it would be fun to try to thwart
the screen scraper, but how much does the upgrade cost?

I don't really personally care or want to know what you charge for the
upgrade, but think of it in terms of, "We charge $xx.xx for the
upgrade, the fix is going to take me x hours to do and they might find
a way around it once I'm done. Is it worth my time to make this
change"

If you still want to do it, I would recommend adding a hidden div with
a big ole chunk of random chars in it. It won't show up to the user,
but the scraper will choke on it.

cfheader filename problem

2007-07-18 Thread Dave Francis
Hi,

I'm trying to download files with this:

Whenever the filename contains spaces, the "What do you want to
do with this file" prompt truncates the filename. I can obviously replace
the spaces with underscore, %20 or something, but wondered if there was a
way to preserve the filename as is, and get the full name in the prompt?

It would seem these users are wise enough to realise that no matter what

Just started working on a legacy application built in CF5. It appears that
one of the users is screen scraping printer friendly HTML output and moving
the data into quick books in order to avoid paying for the export upgrade.

Ideas I've had to muck up the data to stop the scraper:
1. random white chars that wouldn't be visible to the user in Printer
Friendly, but would alter the values enough to make it a pain in quick
books. Might have issues w/ printing.
2. random # of empty cells
3. convert text to .gif

Has anybody dealt w/ this issue? What did you do?

RE: preserving session for web services

2007-07-18 Thread Chad Gray
Ya... I was experimenting with an AIR app a while back and it connected to a
Coldfusion CFC. The session was created when the AIR app hit the CFC and the
session expired at the predetermined time.

You might have to build a cfc for the distributors web service calls to create
your session objects, but once created then the future webservice calls will be
able to access the session objects. Like Brad said... IF it can accept a

Setup a test application.cfm and cfc with session stuff in it and with
access=remote on the functions and have them hit the CFC WSDL and see what
happens.

As long as your distributors program can accept cookies, then you can
use session management just like you would with a browser.

Subject: preserving session for web services

Greetings,

I have a question for the list. A distributor wants to connect to our
ecommerce system, which is an OO setup using cfc's. Their site however
is an asp.net site. What we are looking at is using web services to
send the results back to the browser on the distributor's site. However
our ecommerce system uses session variables to hold various objects,
like a user object, a shopping cart object etc. This obviously may be a
problem. So how do we maintain session between the different web service
calls to our site?

Any help or suggestions on this is most appreciated.

thx,

Cfchart Pie

2007-07-18 Thread Troy Montour
Hello everyone,
is there an issue doing custom xml files for Pie Charts for cfchart?.

normally I just create a custom xml file and put it in the
/charting/styles/ directory.

then I call it like this
style="Bar_3D_SLANTED_2Axis" = Bar_3D_SLANTED_2Axis.xml in directory above
and when I create a bar chart this works fine.

but as soon as I create a custom Pie chart it gives me the error
Could not locate the style file Pie_3D.in Pie_3D.xml

if I map to it with a relative path it works fine but calling it as I normally
do with a bar chart it doesn't work.

any help would be great cause I don't want to use relative paths since its
called at different locations thru out our application.

Thank You
Troy

Re: Encrypting database information

2007-07-18 Thread Eric Haskins
md5 (one way encrypt) Hash pretty much standard way for passwords. I know
alot of people that dont even encrypt passwords any more. The thought is if
they have hacked your database what do they need the password for :)

As for credit cards, customer details and such Usually requires something
around the lines of an (nChiper Key storage box which you would need a
backup in case one breaks) to be PCI compliant.

I have a cheap way I use for my Web Hosting Billing Software. I have a
Ioncube encoded/encrypted php file that Accepts a value and returns an
encrypted value. The key for the hash is stored in the file. If my site is
compromised they would have to break ioncube's encryption before they can
decode any database values. Its just one more step. Ioncube has been
broken before but it takes alot of time and money :)

RE: cfc question

2007-07-18 Thread Chad Gray
Thank Matt, Jim and Dan.

I see where you guys are going with this.

As far as security im not sure how using the array is any better.

I suppose once things are broken out using the array I could then validate the
data coming in with .

This would keep people from tacking on sub-queries and injecting their own SQL
statements.

Thanks for the help!

Chad,

is indeed escaping your single quotes. You can get around this in
a couple of ways. The first is to use preserveSingleQuotes() in your
function, like so:

WHERE #preserveSingleQuotes(arguments.criteria)#

While that is a very easy "solution", you will be opening yourself up to all
sorts of security risks. Therefore, I would strongly urge that you do *not*
use this "solution".

Another solution would be to add an argument that would accept an array, or
an array of structs that would hold your criteria. Here is a quick example
of what I mean.

   myArray = arrayNew(1);
   myArray[1] = structNew();
   myArray[1].field = "FileName";
   myArray[1].value = "PLATES.zjf";
   myArray[1].quote = true;
   myArray[2].field = "FileModificationDate";
   myArray[2].value = "09/30/2005 12:34:01 PM";
   myArray[2].quote = true;

   WHERE 0 = 0

  AND #arguments.criteria[i].field# =

'#arguments.criteria[i].value#'

#arguments.criteria[i].value#

Hope that helps.

I want to be able to pass in the "WHERE" statement into it. So it could be:

So I run something like this to call the function:

What I get back is an error:

Then I look at the SQL that was run in debugging.
SELECT *

Why did it take my single quotes and add another single quote? Is it trying

Beaware that if this CFC is to be called remotely, you want to tidy it up by
having explicit name and modification date parameters, to prevent people
manipulating the SQL.
Even if not, you should do that anyway, so you can make use of cfqueryparam.

Chad,
Here is what I do in that situation. First my select statement by default
will return all rows

SELECT *
FROM FlexoDirectConfigFiles
WHERE 1=1

1 will always be eqal to 1 so this is an easy way of getting all records and
allowing for optional and clauses then you can do this; Pass in optional
arguments to your function. You want to make these arguments not required
that way can pass as many or as few filters to your function as possible.
The code below may not be right I just threw it together quickly, but
hopefully you get the idea.

SELECT *
FROM FlexoDirectConfigFiles
WHERE 1=1

AND column =

AND column =

Hi,

I'm looking for a Windows solution that will capture my screen and audio and
present it in Flash for embedding in a web page. A friend uses Snapz Pro at
Ambrosia Software, a cheap and effective solution, but only for the Mac. The
videos are saved as Quicktime files and then he uploads them to YouTube for the
.swf. Very cool. Any ideas for a similar Windows solution? What Adobe products

cfc question

2007-07-18 Thread Chad Gray
I have a CRUD CFC that has this function and I load the CFC into the
application scope:

SELECT *
FROM FlexoDirectConfigFiles
WHERE #arguments.criteria#

I want to be able to pass in the "WHERE" statement into it. So it could be:
FileName = 'PLATES.zjf' AND FileModificationDate = '09/30/2005 12:34:01 PM'

So I run something like this to call the function:

What I get back is an error:
[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]Incorrect syntax near
'PLATES.zjf'.

Then I look at the SQL that was run in debugging.
SELECT *
FROM FlexoDirectConfigFiles
WHERE FileName = ''PLATES.zjf'' AND FileModificationDate = ''09/30/2005
12:34:01 PM''

Why did it take my single quotes and add another single quote? Is it trying to
escape the single quote? How do I keep it from doing this?

Thanks for the replies. That is sort of what I was afraid it was doing (I
thought it would error gracefully and not actually lock the variables for the
app). Sadly, the session vars are used elsewere in this app so I think the

The cost of locking may outweigh the value of an individual data point.

For example, in a database, you may want to determine the average value of a
column, in a table that has a million rows. The SQL to do this is quite
easy, but by default it will prevent write access to those rows while the
query is running. If a couple of values changed during the query, it
wouldn't noticeably affect the outcome anyway.

RE: OT - Exchange server, how to export shared contacts to cvs

2007-07-18 Thread Dawson, Michael
There really isn't anything considered to be a "shared" contact in
Exchange. There are just contacts within Active Directory. You can use
LDAP to retrieve these items.

Your LDAP filter should use "objectCategory=Contact".

Point your LDAP browser (or CFLDAP) at one of your domain controllers.
You don't need admin permissions, but you do need a domain account since
you have to authenticate against AD.

If you have access to Active Directory Users and Computers MMC Snap-In,
I believe you can filter for all contacts, then export them to a file.

Ah, yeah csv

I can't get the contacts, I've looked in the exchange administrator,
all around in outlook, and I still don't understand how those are stored
or how to export them. A normal users contacts are not a problem, you
can export them from outlook, it's these company wide shared contacts
that I can't seem to be able to export.

It's a small company and while they use exchange, they do not have a
network person on-site. I would have access to administrator account
though if this helps provides enough user rights to get the data I need.

This also is not a coldfusion project, I just need these contacts to
merge with another set.

CFLDAP was tripping up on the commas in the value of my "attributes"
parameter. You sent me down the right track, and I found that the
"separator" parameter was defaulting to "," which was matching the
commas in my DN string.

There are a lot of cases where you want to track things that aren't
found in the web server logs, and you might want to track them in real
time.

Ray wrote some code to determine how many active sessions are on a
page that I use in CFMBB to determine how many users are "currently"
browsing the forums. Of course, I consider this to be "important"
information... and obviously he did too, so there are locks around the
code.

Still, I don't get the whole concept of "If it's not that important,
don't lock it"... because.. if it's not that important, and you know
the numbers might be inaccurate, why do it at all?

Re: SOT: managing multiple dev environments

The data is quite volatile. The schema typically has some changes
during each release cycle. We currently point at shared DBs, which I'm
thinking is the direction we'll stick with. But we are talking about
all of the suggestions mentioned here. I can see the benefit in having
local DB as well--in fact this is how I've developed in the past, and
understand how easily this scenario can break the app for other
developers (who may not be in a position to update their local
code-base for whatever reason).

$50/per head is not the issue. Our application runs against MS SQL,
and given it's enterprise nature is likely to stay there. If there
were to be a move (very, very doubtful), it would be to Oracle. Not
casting stones at MySQL or PostrgreSQL--they're great. Just not
appropriate for our specific application/business domain.

Ah, yeah csv

I can't get the contacts, I've looked in the exchange administrator, all
around in outlook, and I still don't understand how those are stored or how
to export them. A normal users contacts are not a problem, you can export
them from outlook, it's these company wide shared contacts that I can't seem
to be able to export.

It's a small company and while they use exchange, they do not have a network
person on-site. I would have access to administrator account though if this
helps provides enough user rights to get the data I need.

This also is not a coldfusion project, I just need these contacts to merge
with another set.

I've never done it before, but if you can get at the contacts, can you not
take whatever format you receive them in and convert it to CSV? You did mean
CSV and not CVS didn't you?

Exchange server, how to export shared contacts to cvs

I've been searching around and haven't found anything but, I need to export
the shared contacts from exchange server. I'm at a loss as to how to get
these contacts and their details out in .cvs format. I've been looking
around the server itself, searching google, nothing. Any leads?

Not really. Coldfusion is being clever; it sees that you want to express the
object as a string and so does the conversion.

Depends how often the data / schema changes - if this is infrequent you could
point all the dev's at a shared DB.
