Fw: Odd cf7 sandbox issue

2008-08-01 Thread Casey C Cook
Now that I look closer at the issue, it seems to be a casing issue in the
path trying to be accessed. Now to find out how the case is changing on a
template call.

so it seems:

Odd cf7 sandbox issue

We have been able to isolate the issue to a specific server, then rebuild
the sandbox to correct the issue. The problem is we dont know what is
causing the issue, once it starts all users are affected until we rebuild
the sandbox or the coldfusion service is restarted. Im going to start
googling for answers, just thought I would touch base here as well.

Kind of OT: CF staff learning Java - need advice

2007-08-17 Thread Casey C Cook
Currently we have a staff of 8 coldfusion developers and there is a new
need from our customer to start supporting Java applications. For those of
you that have coldfusion experience and then moved to Java which of the
following 2 scenarios would you find to be most productive during the
SECOND week of java development.

1) 1 week of Java training from a vendor
2) 1 week of on the job training, a book of your choice and assigned a
java mentor to ask any questions

Thanks,

I ran into an error on cf 6.1 identified below, and it was corrected by
adding the following to the form tag. Now we have migrated to cf7 and the
error has resurfaced. There was suppose to be a hotfix which addressed
this issue, but we applied it to the dev server with no success. One of my
co-workers stated the error went away when debug was turned off

Re: Annoying Dreamweaver error

2007-05-10 Thread Casey C Cook
I have seen this error, in our case it seems to hang on index.cfm for some
of our older applications. Im not sure if its related to file size, or the
fact that the person tried to mimic fusebox in a non fusebox app and its
trying something in the background to do something with all the files it
has references to.

Has anyone seen this error and/or know the fix? I didn't find anything

I am using Dreamweaver 8 with validator set to HTML 4.0 and CFMX 7.

cflogin issue with cf7

2007-03-19 Thread Casey C Cook
When using the cflogin tag on MX 7 we have to use the following code,
otherwise, we throw a "String index out of range: -1" error. Anyone have
any insight on this ? The error does not appear if we disable netegrity
siteminder rules, which basically say prompt on any folder you hit.

CF7 / oracle 10g migration woes

2007-02-14 Thread Casey C Cook
Some more information on 2)

When a folder is protected by netegrity - siteminder, the cflogin tag
throws the "String index out of range: -1". If we remove protection on the
folder then the cflogin tag works fine.

What gives? What does the cflogin tag do that could be causing a failure
when protected by netegrity siteminder?

Ive read a lot of infromation about how there are now some functions that
are no longer usable because MX doesnt have a built in licensed copy of
siteminder, but even if your not using those functions, the cflogin tag is
blowing up.

CF7 / oracle 10g migration woes

I have two scenario's, one we have figured out, one we havent.

1) Figured out: When using the cfstoredproc tag and doing a select query
in a package/procedure which returns more than 46 columns, the CF 7 server
spins off into never never land. If you push it by hitting the URL several
times, you can crash the server. If you use cfquery everything works fine,
so our immediate solution was to re-write these into coldfusion templates.
Has anyone else seen this issue?

test cases:
cf6 and oracle 9 - all good
cf6 and oracle 10g - I forget
cf7 and oracle 9 - off to never never land
cf7 and oracle 10g - off to never never land

So we concluded, it was most likely the cf7 server and NOT the oracle 10g.

2) Currently trying to figure out: when using the cflogin tag in CF6
everything works fine, in CF7 Im getting "String index out of range: -1".
The cflogin tag just doesnt work. Any ideas ?

Server Product ColdFusion MX
Version 7,0,2,142559
Edition Enterprise
Operating System Windows 2003
OS Version 5.2

CF7 / oracle 10g migration woes

2007-02-12 Thread Casey C Cook

Any ideas ?

File attachment after user error

2006-08-31 Thread Casey C Cook
Once again Ive run into one of those "seems so easy, yet its so hard"
situations.

Basically, a user has the ability to attach up to 3 files on a form . If the user throws an error, such as forgetting to input a
required field, the form will submit and go through validation.cfm since
they didnt pass the validation they will come back to the submission
screen. The problem is, I know the user has input/attached a file, but
browser security prevents me from populating the input field with the
previous entry. Does anyone know a good way around this? I want to keep
all the same logic in place, just be able to somehow recognize the user
has already made the effort to attach the file and be able to submit that
information after they correct their error. So far we have discussed many
other solutions which will work, but require a coding effort greater than
what should seem so easy - populate the freaking value the user has
entered previously. Seems like I run across one of these scenario's once
every six months and just wonder why things seem so easy when talking
about it, but next to impossible in practice. Ive spent way too much time
on this, any input would be greately appreciated.

Thanks,
Casey Cook

Invalid Sessions - Baffled

2006-07-13 Thread Casey C Cook
For the past 4 months we have been experiencing dozens of "invalid
session" errors per day. (and just recently reported by users!!!??!!) Ive
been doing some reading and one solution was setting a web.xml setting to
number equal to some timeout, however, I was told our "server setup" does
not use a web.xml file. Other people have posted coding solutions, but
outfitting dozens of applications with a piece of code to account for this
issue really isnt an option being considered at this point. Some of the
posts I was reading are 5 months old of people reporting the same issue,
my questions are: 1) Has a hotfix or other permanent solution been found
to this problem? 2) What is the definitive cause of this issue?

Environment stuff:
We are currently running CF Version: 6,1,0,63958
Windows and unix environments
Currently J2EE session variables is checked / are being used
The error suddenly appeared in the logs on Feb 22nd of 2006 and not a day
has gone by without the error since.

Sample error from the application log:
"Error","jrpp-145","07/13/06","08:22:56","myapp","Session is invalid The
specific sequence of files included or processed is:
E:\inetpub\myapp\index.cfm "

Enterprise (networked environment) is using coldfusion drivers, standard

Thanks for the reply, Im just at a loss as to why CF_SQL_TIME can be used
in one environment and it passes in the date/time correctly but in another
environment its only passing in the time and uses the date Jan 1, 1900.
For a fix I will be using the CF_SQL_TIMESTAMP but having two enviroments
act differently with the same code is throwing me off.

cfqueryparam: cf_sql_time vs. cf_sql_timestamp

2005-11-10 Thread Casey C Cook
Hi -

Does anyone know the difference between CF_SQL_TIME and CF_SQL_TIMESTAMP
when using cfqueryparam on a table insert? We have a situation where we
use CF_SQL_TIME and its works fine in one environment, but we migrate to
another environment and in order to get the insert to work correctly I
have to use CF_SQL_TIMESTAMP. The coldfusion server version seem to be
same MX 6.1 except for one is enterprise version and one is not. Im not
certain about oracle database versions.

Heres the code in question:

select sysdate now from dual

Calendar?

This was our thought as well, and the reason we decided to even attempt
this project. The current version of the calendar is installable, and
has some really neat features. however, there are a few bugs that need
to be fixed and the documentation still needs to be written for it. All
in all, a few hundred dollars worth of man-hours still need to be put
into it before it's ready to go. That's the difficult part, and the
reason we're attempting to determine interest in it.

What about the modified MIT license we're thinking about releasing it
under? With the addition of the third paragraph, we've essentially made
the calendar linkware. Is this too much? We're not asking users to link
to the main vivio site or anything commercial. We're simply asking for a
link back to the main calendar site. Is this sort of licensing too
restrictive to the very liberal MIT license to be useful? As developers,
would would this requirement cause you to think twice before using it?

The reason we added the third paragraph was because we wanted the effort
to grow, but perhaps there's a better way to do this? It makes me wonder
how some of the great open-source projects got started and became popular.

Thank you all for your input. =) We really appreciate it and please keep
it coming!

Warm regards,
Jordan Michaels

Hi Casey. If it's a CFML tag, check the ColdFusion directories for a
directory containing a bunch of .class files which resemble the names
of the templates in your application. One of those files is generated
from your custom tag. You can delete just the tag you're having a
problem with, if you can isolate it by name, but I generally just
delete them all -- they're all created when the CFML file is compiled
anyway. I never had a problem with this until recently -- the servers
at my day job have had this problem a couple times. Of course, this
may not be your problem, but it's a possibility. Apparently sometimes
CF gets confused and doesn't see that there's a newer version of the
CFML template, so it doesn't delete and recreate the class file.

Quick easy custom tag question

2005-08-04 Thread Casey C Cook
If a custom tag has been changed and deployed to a production enviroment
but has the old version cached is there a way to force it to recognize the
new version without restarting the server to clear cache?

RE: Ideas - Your Help Needed

2005-03-18 Thread Casey C Cook
We had a situation where a manager would enter a pay increase for employee
A but it would save the record into employee B record. Basically what was
happening is they would enter employee B make some changes to the form,
change their mind, click the back button a couple times to employee A
record and hit submit. Well, the session information from employee B was
still hanging around and was insert into employee A record. Maybe
something like this could have occurred, he entered a different name,
changed his mind went to a different screen and saved some form contents
and it saved the bogus name.

No, the key is unique and not editable. The transactions are all complete.

Just as a check I may have misunderstood but are you allowing end users to
update the key in the database? Also is everything that needs to be in a
transaction definitely in a transaction?

Re: Okay, I've never quite run into this before...

2005-01-20 Thread Casey C Cook
I just wanted to mention one other thing. Statements like the below dont
fly. You either need to have the customer define the requirements or you
come up with a list of solutions and have them pick the best option or a
combo of the options, but if you do not get buy-off on the customer
expectations of what they will be receiving your setting yourself up for
many headaches. For the customer to say do it and make it work leaves the
door wide open for them to come back and say they dont like what you gave
them and do it all over, or as they see you heading down a path they can
change directions on you.

""whatever it needs to do or however it needs to
work, I just wanna be able to do that..."

It's not an odd request, just something that seems probably a little more
complex than it initially appears, and I just want to make sure I'm
heading
in the right direction, design-wise.

Client has an events calendar, dates, events, details (text), possibly an
image all kept in the appropriate tables in the database. Client also has
a
table that keeps track of artists (It's a little local pro-bono arts
council) with information about the artist, their gallery, contact info,
etc...point being, VERY different data than the events.

Client wants an area on the home page for featured events OR artist. In
other words, when there's nothing important going on, swap an artist's
info
there, with links to some images of their work, etc. I've got the
isFeatured
flags in each table, one in the artists table, and one in the events
table,
so an event or an artist could be flagged, but it brings up a lot of
questions. Like, where does the integrity reside for making sure that
there
can only be one event OR one artist that's flagged as currently active? Do

you want to have to UNflag an event or artist before you can flag another
one? Does the flagging of an event as "featured" automatically unflag an
artist? The client says, "whatever it needs to do or however it needs to
work, I just wanna be able to do that..."

I'm doing this whole thing with CFCs, so the solution is obviously to
write
a CFC or series of CFCs to handle it all, but I was wondering what my
pitfalls were and what was a good way to handle different types of results

coming back for what's essentially a query that says, "give me this, if
it's
an event and it's active, or give me this if it's an artist and it's
active,
and it'll be different data depending on which one it is"?

I was thinking, "return a struct from the CFC, and use a variable in the
struct that's set in the CFC to determine what kind of data the struct is
returning"...something along the lines of (pseudo):

"It's an artist, display their info"

"It's not an artist, it's an event, display that info"

And have all the checking done in the CFC by querying the tables to see
which one contains an active "featured" event or artist.

Does this make sense? Is it a lot easier than I'm thinking? I've just
never
run into the "only one set of data from a possible query of two different
places" scenario...

Re: Okay, I've never quite run into this before...

2005-01-20 Thread Casey C Cook
Does the customer want a maintenance task of updating flags? If not then
they could determine up front a date range for which the event will be
shown on the homepage and lets say you can have up to 5 slots. The
homepage will show all events which are in the valid date range compared
to todays date and if any slots are left over it then checks the artists
table for flagged artists info and date ranges. In the rare case that more
than 5 events are active at more than one time you could have priorities
assigned to events or just randomly select 5 events to display each time
the homepage is hit. The path I try to take is to have the customer enter
the data one time and then forget about it. If they need control on a
daily basis of whats displayed and in what order etc, then it sounds like
you are going down the right path. The user would have to check x flags
for the events and the remaining y flags for the artists such that all 5
slots will be displayed.

OT? Passing comma delimited list to where clause in stored procedure

2004-10-28 Thread Casey C Cook
I have a comma delimited list returned from a multi select field on my
input form. I then take the list and use the following code:

ListQualify(#form.TypeofPets#,"'",",","ALL")

which gets the user selected result set such as the following:

'Dogs','Cats','Horses'

I then pass this variable into a stored procedure:

The stored procedure query looks like the following:

select pet_stuff1, pet_stuff2
from mypettable
where pet_type in (inTypeOfPets)

The problem is even though my input string looks like
'Dogs','Cats','Horses' the ticks are getting stripped out of the variable
(Dogs,Cats,Horses), how do I retain the ticks? inTypeOfPets is defined as
a varchar2. Im using CF MX and oracle 9.2.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks again,
Casey Cook

Re: Comparing a list against an 2 element array? - Update

2004-09-23 Thread Casey C Cook
Ok, so I can write a union statement to get unique violation combinations,
now the only piece I lack is to be able to pass in a list of values to a
function or something and get returned all the unique combinations. Then I
can compare the unique combinations to the union query results and find my
violations. Anyone know where I can find a function to pass in a comma
delimited string of values and get all the unique combinations returned?

Thanks for listening.

RE: ;amp in my URL's?

2004-09-21 Thread Casey C Cook
---
AAARGH!  That foul beast dares rear its head again!?!!  (read with pirate
voice and one eye squinted shut)

I had/have this exact same problem.  The site I work on has two sides: one
that I manage, using CF, and the other that someone else manages, using
any
number of technologies, including Lotus Notes.  The sign-in/registration
system that I designed runs over the entire site, so the two sides have to
play nice together.  Because the other side doesn't use CF, I had to do
some
trickery.  This trickery involves (among other things) _javascript_ code
that
sits on that other side, and which bounces users who aren't signed in over
to my side.  Of course, in doing this, I want to be sure that I can route
users to their desired location after the sign-in.  To do this, I place
their desired URL into a URL variable.  Here's where things fall apart.  I
can't remember exactly which part causes the error, but the idea is that
some bit of it all (the browser, the _javascript_ code, something) converts
those nice & characters to their HTML equivalents (&) and all hell
breaks loose.  As I remember it, the problem was even more complicated in
that even if I got it through the first step, it might get fouled up at
the
second step (when I send the user back).

Bottom line (ugly bottom line): my solution was to stop trusting the
various
bits that were converting the ampersand character into its equivalent and
back.  At the very start of the process, I replace all ampersands with the
lovely string QQQampQQQ.  At the very end of the process, I reverse the
process, replacing QQQampQQQ with ampersands, and redirect to that
address.

I readily admit that there must be a better way.  That said, I caution you
against spending too much time finding it.  As I remember it, the reason I
went this way was that--while I could get it to work in one scenario--the
various possible cases got rapidly complicated, and it was much easier to
convert the string immediately into something that would be preserved
regardless of which automatic conversion it was going through.

All that said, can I help you at all?  I would make sure I know the
process
from end to end: where does the URL begin its life as a variable, and
where
does it end that life.  If you can't figure out an easy way to fix it, do
the ugly trick above.

HTH,
Matthieu

Thanks for the responses, we are still looking into the issue. So far we
have potentially found a workaround with the code below. In the event I
cant find the exact cause the work around should work, I guess I will find
out soon enough. Hopefully the error reports disappear when I come in
tomorrow morning. I still have some users to talk to tomorrow, hopefully
our discussions narrow the search.

RE: ;amp in my URL's?

2004-09-21 Thread Casey C Cook
This is a link clicked from lotus notes, the URL string is the link itself
in the email. (there is not a cflocation) Also, its not a spider, these
are actual users I talked to on the phone and walked through all the steps
to reproduce the error. They throw the error when clicking the link and I
do not. There is something different about their browser settings or
computer settings that places the ;amp in the URL string, Im not sure what
it could be.

;amp in my URL's?

2004-09-20 Thread Casey C Cook
Im trapping a few errors per day which means probably 1-1000 users (or
more) is experiencing this problem, and not sure what could be causing it.

Basically if I look at the cgi.query_string it shows

fuseaction=DisplayNews&ContextID=MSA&ID=4324&GBT=Main

vs. what it should be

fuseaction=DisplayNews&ContextID=MSA&ID=4324&GBT=Main

What would be placing amp; in my URL strings? I simulated the exact steps
as the user but did not throw an error message. We are both clicking the
link from same version of lotus notes, launching the same version internet
explorer external from lotus notes. Im almost sure this is some sort of
setting in the broswer or on the computer, unrelated to the application
itself. Any insight would be appreciated.

java.lang.NullPointerException ???

2004-08-02 Thread Casey C Cook
Hello,

I have a stored procedure which runs fine, however, when I change
returncode from "no" to "yes" I get the following error message:
"java.lang.NullPointerException"

returncode="YES">

Basically I wanted to try see if any errors were going to be thrown with
the stored procdure call, and if not, run another set of code. A coworker
recommended I use cfcatch and cftry, well I tried that and the code seems
to execute but the stored procedure does not update the database.

Any ideas?

RE: Javacript Onclick Question - Getting Closer

2004-05-21 Thread Casey C Cook
I found some code that identifies the links in my document.

function describeLinks(){
 outputWindow.document.write("Links")
 outputWindow.document.write("This document contains
"+document.links.length+" links:")
 for(i=0;i
  outputWindow.document.write(document.links[i].href+"")

Using this code identified the following link:
http://myserver:myport/test/index.cfm?fuseaction=LogOff

Now, how might I write the code to for the following logic.

If you find the link text "fuseaction=LogOff"  then onclick "pop up a confirmation window".

Looks like were headed down the right path.

SOT: Javacript Onclick Question

2004-05-21 Thread Casey C Cook
I would like to know if this is possible, I know very little about
_javascript_, but if if someone could point me in the right direction I can
do the research. Heres what Im trying to do.

I have my main display page which calls a custom header. This custom
header has an link that logs the user off when clicked. What I
want to do now is to add a pop-up box that prompts the user to confirm
that they are logging off. Heres the kicker, I cant modify the customer
header, so how do I write _javascript_ from my main display page to add the
pop-up box on the link in the custom header?

Thanks for you help!

Re: World Wide Web Publishing Service - Solved Somewhat

2004-05-06 Thread Casey C Cook
We changed the service recovery first and second failure to "restart the
service" and this seems to have corrected the situation, although I will
probably never know the real reason this was happening. The other option
which we did not use was to find a way to set dependencies for the WWWPS
so that it would not start until coldfusion services had started.

I installed my Macromedia Coldfusion MX on my local machine yesterday
after IIS. (Windows 2000 professional)  The coldfusion administrator
worked fine yesterday and when I logged in today the administrator quit
working.  A co-worker of mine suggested I make the service World Wide Web
Publishing Service "manual" and to reboot then go into services and
"start" it up. Well, it worked, the administrator is back, so my question
is why cant the World Wide Web Publishing Service not be left on
"automatic" ? Has anyone else seen this type of behavior ?

RE: ot: requirements for cf projects

2003-10-21 Thread Casey C Cook
I dont have outside clients, but have internal clients that pose questions
during requirements meetings like "How long will this take".  I have
learned a standard response to any question I am not willing (willing
meaning I dont have enough information to respond accurately) to respond
to at the moment is "Anything is possible with enough time and money, but
let me go back and anlyze what you have asked for and come up with what
approaches we can choose from and how much each approach will cost in
time/labor." This way I am not committing myself to some verbal estimate
given in a meeting/phone call with 5 seconds to think about all the angles
of the requirements.  As far as the sales person calling, I dont think its
the best approach to use, but it wont matter that he calls if you use a
standard reponse. About the only information I give out "on the spot" is
"It sounds doable" then respond with "standard response".  This is how I
have learned to deal with those situations and keep myself out of hot
water.  I have been burned a few times by the customer calling directly
and then quoting my responses to my management, so I no longer give out
any information until I have done proper analysis.

In summary:
If your the type of person who feels compelled to give a detailed answer
(and possibly held to those details) when put on the spot, then absolutely
the sales person did the wrong thing and that sales person should be asked
not to call you during development hours for "on the spot" answers. The
chain of events should be as you described, sales gather requirements, you
analyze requirements, sales informs customer of your findings.

If your the type of person, like me, who uses a standard response when
asked "on the spot" questions which may lead to unintentional
financial/time commitments, then it doesnt matter of the sales person
calls once per hour. The chain of events will still be as you described,
sales gather requirements, you analyze requirements, sales informs
customer of your findings.

This is only my opinion.

Symbolic links treated differently?

2003-10-13 Thread Casey C Cook
Hello -

Just a quick question regarding cf_template_path and path_translated
variables in CF 4.5 vs MX 6.1.  We currently have both CF versions running
on the same web server (Solaris 2.7 UNIX) but the values returned in the
variables mentioned above is different, even though the "environment" and
database has not been changed.  Does MX somehow treat symbolic links
differently and yield different values in the cf_template_path and
path_translated variables?  Is there a setting that might have been missed
in the MX 6.1 set-up (doubtful, but possible) ? Im submitting this
question for a co-worker, if you need more information i can provide it.

Thanks much,
Casey Cook

I would encourage *anyone* who is doing email application that need to
handle volume to upgrade to CFMX 6.1 Enterprise. This kind of use case is
specifically what we targeted the enhancements for.

As to the CF5 spool file locking problem, you can certainly fix this by
switching to a Unix based operating system. :-(

The problem is that windows will not let you move/delete a file being
touched by some other 'process'. Have you investigated if there is a
Windows patch that fixes problems with this kind of file locking happening
'randomly'? I can certainly believe there is a bug in the CF5 C++
implementation that would possibly not release a file handle properly, but
if it only happens every *month* or two, I am not sure how we could have
coded something so clever if we had wanted to

Casey,

I used to work for a company that sends approximately 1 billion (yes,
billion) emails a month (and yes, they are spammers). The emails are
created via a CF application run from the command line that spools the
emails to a database. The outbound spooling is handled through a separate
application on the mail servers that pulls the emails from the database
and
fires them out through Sendmail.

We learned long ago about the spooling bug in CF5, and also that CF5 is
not
at all suited to operate as a high-volume mail server.

If you continue to experience this bug, my advice to you is to implement a
solution such as I have described. You don't have to use Sendmail. There
are
plenty of small, cheap (or free) mail servers available. My personal
favorite is ArgoSoft Mai

You saw it pop up from time to time, was an effort made come up with some
sort of prevention? Can it be prevented at the application level vs the
core CF level.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes, a restart fixed it, but what caused it? So far I have been reading
this is a "known issue" and should just be dealt with as it arises. If
there is a known cause then we can find a work-around until Macromedia
fixes it. (or use the work around until we upgrade, given I dont think
CF
4.5 is supported anymore)

Re: Mail spooling issue

2003-09-16 Thread Casey C Cook
1) It actually sends out the e-mail.

2) The code has been unchanged for the 1 and 1/2 years the program has
been running.

I dont know enough about what happens to the e-mail once it leaves the
spool folder and enters the e-mail system flow. Perhaps something is
going screwy after it leaves coldfusions hands.

Thanks.

Is it actually sending the mail or is it just spooling them? There is a
bug
that we've run into where if the developer forgets to set a TO or FROM
address, the spooler fills up with duplicates as it fails to send the
message and retries. This is on CF<=5 for us. I don't know about MX.

Mail spooling issue

2003-09-16 Thread Casey C Cook
Has anyone experienced the mail spooler sending out like 14,000 emails,
even though the CF statement only sends 1 e-mail to the
spooler?...Bascially the same e-mail is being sent over and over and over
quickly. We only have the administrator set to check for new e-mails

Hi all

We are finally tring to upgrate from Access to SQL 2000.

I am working on making the necessary changes to the queries.

One I am having a problem with is were the WHERE statement is:

WHERE (proj_name = '#Qgetinfo.proj_name# ') and(datepart('M',work_day)
=#m#)

m=number for the month:  m=5.
work_day is the field in the db table.

this works fine with Access(data type date/time), but with SQL I get the
error:

Error Diagnostic Information
ODBC Error Code = 37000 (Syntax error or access violation)

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid parameter 1
specified
for datepart

when the data type is smalldatetime and if I change it to timestamp, no
error but no records are returned either.

This is used to create a report based on the project selected and the
month.

THanks
Rodney

Format: DATEPART(MONTH, '1/1/2003')

*note the word MONTH is literally the word month, not a numeric
equivalent. In your case the 1/1/2003 may be your coldfusion variable.

Subject:SQL help

Hi all

We are finally tring to upgrate from Access to SQL 2000.

I am working on making the necessary changes to the queries.

One I am having a problem with is were the WHERE statement is:

WHERE (proj_name = '#Qgetinfo.proj_name# ') and(datepart('M',work_day)
=#m#)

m=number for the month:  m=5.
work_day is the field in the db table.

this works fine with Access(data type date/time), but with SQL I get the
error:

Error Diagnostic Information
ODBC Error Code = 37000 (Syntax error or access violation)

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid parameter 1
specified
for datepart

when the data type is smalldatetime and if I change it to timestamp, no
error but no records are returned either.

This is used to create a report based on the project selected and the
month.

THanks
Rodney

Re: OT: Think you are a SQL GURU? Try figuring this one out.

2003-07-17 Thread Casey C Cook
Well, here is an interesting select statement to give you the values you
want.

select name,
length(name),
instr(name,' ',1),
instr(name,' ',1,2),
substr(name,1,instr(name,' ',1)-1),
substr(name,instr(name,' ',1)+1,(length(name)-instr(name,' ',1,1))-2),
substr(name,instr(name,' ',1,2)+1)
from name_test

This assume that all middle initials will be 1 defined character
(otherwise logic fails) and that no names will contain spaces, such as Mac
Donald. The logic looks for blank spaces and then counts strings from
those spaces. You get the idea of where to go from here, if not, give me
all the rules for the names and we can try to come up with something more
interesting. This is a select statement, but can easily be turned into an
insert statement.

Hey Eric,

It's not SQL it's more for PERL and Regular Expressions. I am not too
familiar with regular expressions in ColdFusion but I'm sure that they are

no RegEx in SQL. Another thing what could do it would be kdb from KX
Systems but again you need to learn k.

If you can drop me the csv file (please not more than 3 mb). I can have a
look.

Hi All,
It appears a certain query of mine is causing our CPU to spike. We're
working on the query but what is strange is that it will hose CF. It was
my
uderstanding that CF passes the connection off so I would think it would
be
normal for the database server's CPU to spike but not for CF to cause the
webserver CPU to spike. If we kill the query it immediately goes back
down.
Does this sound right? I have not seen this happen before and am
questioning
if my logic is off.

TIA,
Rob

OT: Table indexes

2003-06-05 Thread Casey C Cook
Hello -

Is this a true statment?

There was an index on SFC_PART_SERIAL_REFERENCE(PART_NO) so I dropped it
and added the index on SFC_PART_SERIAL_REFERENCE(PART_NO, SERIAL_NO). Any
query that was using the old index should be able to use the high order
portion of the new index.

If I run a query on PART_NO alone, will it use the part_no/serial_no
index, I didnt think that was the way indexes worked, but I have been
wrong many times. Is there a good reference to read exactly how indexes
work?

Thanks for your input,

Template not executing in Scheduler

Does anyone know why a task would not execute a template from the

difference between running it from the scheduled task screen and the

When it starts to go off, kick the hell out of the machine and see if it
stops.

Tony - your speakers could be fried. Or, if you have a microphone
attached,
make sure it isn't near the speakers (maybe it's feed back).

Sounds like it could be a heat issue. Pop the case off and check your
fans. Most motherboards will start doing this if the CPU fan stops
spinning.

Tony,

I'd be looking at a hardware failure point if I were you - check the
bios for alarms and warnings and look a the Mboard documentation.

WOT: Oracle Discoverer

2003-03-19 Thread Casey C Cook
Hello all -

Does anyone use the Oracle Discoverer tool, Im new to the tool and would
like to know if this forum can be used on occassion to ask questions. I
have subscribed to the oracle technical network forum on Discoverer, but
no one seems to reply there. Does anyone know a better forum or mailing
list like this one for Oracle Discoverer? Thanks for your input.
