RE: Macromedia Ultradev

i am thinking about creating a cf / ud site to guide newbies [like myself]
into the world of data manipulation then on to bigger & better things inside
CF.
if you think this might be of interest or other coments let me know.

cfMail.. what am i doing wrong?

2000-06-27 Thread Paul Ihrig

hello.
have a form that pulls info in about a class & its times.
at the bottom of it you sign up with name & such.
it submits the content into a mdb.

when i try & insert
to myself, from myself, (just for testing, before i use to =
#useremail#)
subject #whatever#

then hit submit.
i get like 200 results in groups of 7 or so ???
is because i have it positioned incorrectly ?

i want to send the content from the form tag ?
would a loop do this? and why would it stop at 200 ?

any help would be great.

RE: RDS port

Dave.
Doe this work for the Admin Portion or CF Server Ent?

Right now ours is set to the Severs default IP Address from the nick card.
The problem is that it is only internal.
So i can only hit the CF Server within the building.

Although the sevre has external ip address & domain names,
I cannot figure out how to hit the server from home.

any advice would be great!
thanks.

How to Count? or Record Count?

2000-07-12 Thread Paul Ihrig

Ok this is going to sound a bit odd since i am not sure how to word it.

i have my little query: [in my admin page for viewing who has signed up for
the class]

[[from dataview01.cfm]]

SELECT tbl_Employee.EmployeeID, tbl_Employee.LastName,
tbl_Employee.FirstName, tbl_Employee.Email, tbl_Class.ClassID,
tbl_Class.ClassName, tbl_Class.ClassDate, tbl_SignUp.SignUpID,
tbl_SignUp.SU_DateOfferdID, tbl_SignUp.SU_EmployeeID, tbl_SignUp.Completed,
tbl_SignUp.CreateDate
FROM tbl_Employee, tbl_Class, tbl_SignUp
WHERE EmployeeID = SU_EmployeeID
AND ClassID = SU_DateOfferdID
AND ClassName = 'Human Resource Mgmt'
ORDER BY #DefOrder#

Which is grabbing a list of employees which could have signed up for 1
class, given on 2 differnt dates.

My problem is, that the class size needs to be limited to 25 people.
This is stated on my main form.

it also shows how many people are currently singed up for class 01 & class
02.
[[from signup01.cfm]]

SELECT SignUpID, SU_DateOfferdID
FROM tbl_SignUp
WHERE SU_DateOfferdID = 1

SELECT SU_DateOfferdID
FROM tbl_SignUp
WHERE SU_DateOfferdID = 2

[[the display]]

A limit of 25 spaces are available per class per day.
You will be notified if you are selected for the class & time.
. #rsDate01_total# people have signed up so far
for
# LSDateFormat(rsDisplayDate01.ClassDate, ',
   DD, ') #.

#rsDate02_total#
people for # LSDateFormat(rsDisplayDate02.ClassDate,
',
   DD, ') #

So, on the form i show how many have signed up.

But on the admin page, i cant figure out how to show who has signed up in
sequential order.
Because on one admin page i have 2 seperate date/times they could sign up.

Its not really abig deal.
i would just like to know how to get the number of the last insert Total + 1
as the number that realates to the student who signed up.??
I know i should have used a sepereate table for each Class/time.

mabey i will redo it from the ground up.
But since it is 10 different classes with 2 times each, spread out over the
next year.
I wanted to be able to track Student/employees progress through this
"Practice Manegment" class.

lol
no one will read this!

Thanks if you do!

RE: Cold Fusion Studio Vs Dreamweaver Ultradev

2000-07-12 Thread Paul Ihrig

alot of cgi stuff too.
i have been using it for a few days now.

i like that you can through up a decently designed page that pulls data in,
in a few minute & preview it right there.

What i dont like is its reformating of my code, from cf.
ud, seems not to understand some very basic list functions.

but its pretty neat to slash out a few pages quickly.

wont replace studio any time soon.

Can i use 2 datasources in one app?

2000-07-17 Thread Paul Ihrig

Quick question.
Can I use 2 different datasources in a CF page?

Say I use Phone.mdb (datasource DB_Phone)
for all my employee info, that is updated on a regular basis.

Then I have a Class sign up mdb. (datasource Class)

Can I just query the DB_Phone to get the employeeID & the insert it
into the Class datasource?

Currently I have just been copying the table employee into a new mdb
for each new little app I through together.
The problem is when a employee is added or deleted to DB_Phone, none
of the other databases know about it.

Also, would a linked table in access work in ColdFusion?
I have never seen the tables that where linked show up in the
DataBase Tab in CF.

Thanks a bunch

Why Cant i see, linked Tables in the DB tab in studio?

2000-07-17 Thread Paul Ihrig

OK!
I am able to use linked tables in access in CF Studio!
Never knew that! Saves me a lot of time & keeps my stuff normalized I think.

But WHY can't I see the linked table in the DataBase Tab in CF Studio?

Is there a work around, cheat or quick fix for this?

I use the DB Tab on a regular basis to build my SQL statements & to
visualize my DB

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks

Any CF variables I put into the form field like "Hello #username#,"

Please Help! Linked Tables in Access :2nd post:

2000-07-24 Thread Paul Ihrig

Hello & thank you.

I have an access *.mdb table that I want link to another access table on the
server.
So that my employee info is updated as it is changed in this other *.mdb

I have tried every thing I know of, but I am still getting access rights
problems from the web server.
I cant seem to be able to link the *.mdb with a relative path.
I have tried absolute paths such as \\webserver\datadir\linkeddata.mdb
<\\webserver\datadir\linkeddata.mdb>
To no avail.

Is it possible to do this on the server?
I can do it just fine on my local machine, but it all points to C: not D:

My server admin doesn't want me to install access on the main server to do a
test.

I know this may sound stupid & off track, but it really would be useful with
CF.

Thanks.

RE: Date Time Manipulations in Query?

2002-05-23 Thread Paul Ihrig

ok

this is what i got to work in my select now.

SELECT #Year(todayDate)# - Year(HIRE_DATE) AS YearsWithFirm,
#Year(todayDate)# - Year(HIRE_DATE) + YEARS_OTHER_FIRMS AS
TotalYearsExperience,

But if the YEARS_OTHER_FIRMS in NULL/Blank or Zero
then the alias TotalYearsExperience doesnt generate.

So how can i force a null to 0 in my select.
can i use a cfif in the select part?

Thanks Again

befor i was overriding this by
cfif

hire date: #DateFormat(HIRE_DATE, "mm/dd/")#
years other firms: #LSNumberFormat(YEARS_OTHER_FIRMS)#
Years At Firm: #YearsAtFirm# #TotalD#
Total Years Experience: #TotalYearsEx1#

What about this ???

SELECT #Year(todayDate)# - Year(HIRE_DATE) AS YearsWithFirm,
#Year(todayDate)# - Year(HIRE_DATE)AS TotalYearsExperience
WHERE YEARS_OTHER_FIRMS IS null

UNION

SELECT #Year(todayDate)# - Year(HIRE_DATE) AS YearsWithFirm,
#Year(todayDate)# - Year(HIRE_DATE) + YEARS_OTHER_FIRMS AS
TotalYearsExperience
WHERE YEARS_OTHER_FIRMS IS NOT null

Not sure if it helps, didn't try it out!

This will do it, but keep a close eye on the processing time of the server,
and make sure if the list gets long that you are using a properly indexed
database.

customTagName.cfm

#preserveSingleQuotes(sqlString)#

notice that in the above you are simply creating a SELECT statement for each
item in the specified SORTORDER list and UNIONing them all together.
I chose UNION ALL because it is faster than UNION... UNION filters out
duplicate rows...

Actually, there is if your database can do a little bit of maths and
subqueries in the ORDER BY clause. But it is a bit tricky and get's out
of hand when the number of elements in the list get's too long because
you need to develop a power series to sort on :)

ORDER BY ( 0

+ (SELECT MAX(TitleID FROM tblJobTitle))^(ListLen(titleIDs) - i) *
Round(Abs(tblJobTitle.TitleID - i)/(Abs(tblJobTitle.TitleID - i) + 1))
 ) DESC

I doubt this will be usefull IRL, but it should work once you sort out
the typo's you will inevitably get. Conversion to a stored procedure
will help as well, you will be able to get the SELECT MAX(TitleID FROM
tblJobTitle) out of the loop.

INSTR is the Access function - CHARINDEX is the SQL Server one

The parameters are also the other way around

a simple app works for me, but throughs my manager errors?

2000-10-26 Thread Paul Ihrig

ok, i have a very simple little app i through together for our education
section of our intranet.
the admin can create a program, upload an image.
then create a class & description.
then create a calendar, where the classes can be reused by different
instructors on different dates & such.

every thing seems to work great on my NT laptop, pointing to out production
server.
but when my manager goes to the same pages, he get all types of errors like
the one below.
when i do the same thing, i don't get the errors & the app does what it
should!

Could it be his browser, or something to do with his cache?

i know he copies my pages from our server to his local machine almost
nightly, for what i don't know.

but could his computer be crossing old pages with my new ones?

any advice would be great.
i am pretty sure, all my pages work correctly.

again thank you.

2000-10-26 Thread Paul Ihrig

Deanna.
yeh that might be it.
but why would he get the error & not myself?
we are bboth pointing to the production server.

could it be a conflict in his PWS?
say if he copied some of the older pages to his local server?

i wil goofe around with his laptop when i have some time, & see what can be
figured out.
