Can Homesite+ use Homesite settings?

Could I just copy my UserData folder from Homesite 5 to another machine

Thanks,

HomeSite+

2002-10-02 Thread Tilbrook, Peter

I thought we'd lost ColdFusion Studio for good with the release of the
pretty good Studio MX. Thankfully MM have added a product called HomeSite +
- which appears to be ColdFusion Studio 5/HomeSite 5 with additional feature
supporting the new MX suite (including of course ColdFusion MX).

Thank you MM.

Cheers!

Homesite

2005-01-13 Thread Michael Dinowitz
Bottom line is that if MM does not provide a product that ColdFusion
programmers/developers/engineers/whatever like then someone else will. There
are already some strong candidates and the end result will be less of a
revenue for MM and a general complaint that the maker of ColdFusion is not
the ones making the best editor for the language.
Dreamweaver works for some, but for many (myself included) it just does not
feel like the editor to do the job. Nothing about price; Everything about
quality and 'feel'.

Homesite 5.5+ vs. Standard Homesite 5.5

I have 5.5 standard. What is the major differences? Can I get CFMX6.1 tag

we upgraded to 5.5 standard.. I searched around on the CF-Talk archives and
couldn't find any direct comparison.

RE: Can Homesite+ use Homesite settings?

2005-06-06 Thread Dawson, Michael
As far as I know, it should work. HS+ is basically CF Studio. CF
Studio is basically HS with the db interaction, debugger and a couple
other things.

The files in the UserData folder are the same.

However, everytime I try to copy my settings from one PC to another,
they don't always "take". Most of the settings do copy, but a few have
to be recreated manually. I can't figure it out because I don't have
the program running when copying files, so there isn't an issue with a
locked file or a file being cached in memory.

Regardless, it should work for you with a few minor burps.

Thanks Mike. I always knew I was just going to try it, unless I heard
reports of something tragic happening, which I didn't expect. I'll make a
backup of those files before I replace them, see what happens.

Too bad these products don't actually seem to be designed to make
replicating your IDE environment to another machine easy.

HomeSite+ vs HomeSite 5 vs CF Studio?

2002-09-05 Thread Mitko Gerensky-Greene

Hello,

Excuse the ignorant question, but what is the difference (particularly in
terms of CF coding capabilities) between the following products:

CF Studio 5 (never had this so I am not sure)
HomeSite 5 (the one that was a $29 upgrade from v 4.5 which comes with DW4)
HomeSite+ (the one which comes with DW MX)

Thanks,

Homesite+ Question

2003-03-13 Thread Venable, John
Hello,

Just got a new XP machine and went ahead and installed MX Studio
with Homesite+. I'm trying to set it up like I used to have my CF Studio set
up, but I have two strange issues I can't figure out.

1) Under options >> settings >> resource tab preferences "Lock Tabs" is
enabled but dimmed meaning I can't "unlock tabs" to get rid of some of them

2) Similar problem with trying to customize visible toolbars. The checkbox
next to each toolbar will not let me uncheck it.
Anyone have any idea why this might be?

Re: Homesite+

2003-03-26 Thread Gary Groomer
I use ColdFusion Studio 5 at work and HomeSite+ at home. HomeSite+ is,
basically, the same as CF Studio 5 except for two main items. It installs a
slimmed down set of help files. I simply copied by CF Studio 5 help files
into the Help folder so I would have both sets available. As far as
obtaining it, the only way that I know is by purchasing Studio MX - it is on
the CD.

Re: Homesite+

You have to buy Dreamweaver MX to get Homesite+

The main diff between HomeSite and HomeSite+ is that + has the RDS features
of CF Studio and limited help files.

Re: HomeSite

2012-10-09 Thread Lewis Sellers

I don't use it much but dreamweaver (at least the CS5 version anyway) seems
to have decent code editing abilities -- it might make some sense to you to
use that considering it's an Adobe product.

After using homesite for many years myself, I eventually gave up on it, and
aside from using pspad with some plugins, eventually settled on Eclipse.
Eclipse ... can be sluggish, even after doing a lot of tweaks to speed it
up, but it does do almost everything you'd want and a lot of folk across
several disciplines use it. So I'd probably suggest giving it a try for a
while.

Homesite+ Regex

2006-03-15 Thread Rick Root
I've always found doing regular expressions find/replace in homesite to
be tedious to the point of it not working.

If I do an extended find in homesite 5.5+ with the following regular
expression, nothing comes up.

^\s+$

that's a pretty simple "find all lines containing only whitespace"
expression, but it doesn't seem to work and I don't know why.

programmers/developers/engineers/whatever like then someone else will.
There are already some strong candidates and the end result will be

You're just not using it right. Try removing all your clothes...and don't
use leather chairs. You'll find it's MUCH more comfortable that way. Also,
try and shift your weight around more frequently, I find that my leg

Homesite plus is the latest version and has just about everything that
Studio did along with bug fixes. I actually have an affiliate link where I
tell people to buy Homesite plus and get Dreamweaver for free. :)

Personally (and now for obvious reasons )
I use CFEclipse for my coding of CF (and of CFEeclipse and the Fusebox
plugin too!)

CFStudio for help (has all my spectra docs and what have you.. not in
a tiny little window like DW, I just paste the tag hit F1 then slide
over to CFEclipse

and DW simply if I am using RDS (as I have to you.. cos.. well.. I have TO!)

Re: Homesite

2005-01-13 Thread Ray Champagne
What's the deal with Homesite? Is it still available? From what I know,
HomeSite was merged into DW as of the MX release, and is no longer available.

I code using DWMX right now, and while I like the interface and the layout
and the 'feel' of the product, I am VERY unhappy with the lag time when
switching back and forth from DW to other programs. It is just downright
annoying. And, yes, I have messed with all the settings that I could
Google, still no better. I have plenty of RAM and a good processor, so I
know it not that. In fact, I have heard this complaint from more that a
handful of people...some on this list.

Does HomeSite have this same lag time? I'd be willing to change over to
something else, I have tried CFEclipse, but I found it to have a learning
curve that I just don't have time for. IIRC, HomeSite is rather similar to
DW, right?

It's on the Dreamweaver and Studio MX CDs. If you buy either Dreamweaver or
Studio MX, you get Homesite for free.

Well, that is nice to know. I just browsed the CD, and found it. When I
installed MX, I just used the AutoRun part of the CD, and it doesn't list
it there, just Flash, CF, Fireworks, and DW. I never browsed the CD to see
what else was there.

I am installing it now. Here's to hoping that this works better than DW!

Thanks,

Well, really, why should Macromedia's editor be the best one for the
language? Why does that matter? Should Sun make the best Java IDE?

> Dreamweaver works for some, but for many (myself included)
> it just does not feel like the editor to do the job. Nothing

I get the impression that for a lot of people here, it's more about what
you're used to than anything else. I mean, there are some people still upset
that they can't buy the old BRIEF editor, I'm sure, since they spent the
time to learn it thoroughly. This has nothing to do with quality or feel,
just familiarity.

And as for the "some" and "many" bits, well, we really don't have any
numbers either way. I could just as easily say "some people still prefer
Homesite, but many people (myself included) prefer Dreamweaver".

But the plain hard fact is, CF Studio and Homesite were never that great.
They simply sucked less than their competitors for a while. I remember
having lots of problems with them - stability and resource problems - back
when they were in their prime. I had a lot of the same complaints about them
that people have with Dreamweaver now.

Finally, as an instructor, it's been my experience that students tend to do
a lot better with Dreamweaver now than they did with CF Studio back when
that was used with the Macromedia courseware. Most of these people have no
prior experience with either product, but they're able to spend less time
grappling with typos and more time learning how to write CFML.

My only problem with DWMX was that it is such a system resource hawg.
However now that I have this new "spiffy" Dell laptop with a 1gb of
RAM, I just do not run into those issues. Only other complaint was
not being able to figure out how to get all the hot keys I used for
years in studio back into DWMX, but I learned to just live with that
one :) Most people never like change.

My biggest complain about Eclipse is that in CF studio (and beyond)
you can make little javascript scripts and asign them to a hot key and
I have quite a few of those now. I know CFeclipse has code snippets
but from what I have found it won't do something like take highlighted
ttext and put it in a nice comment block like

(now the above example looks wrong in somethings b/c its not fixed
width font but in the editors around my office we use a fixed width
font)

Beyond that I am begining to enjoy using cfEclipse and EPIC (for PERL)
I still need to try HE3 a little more its pretty nice too.

that Homesite+ has better CFML support. Homesite+ is only available with

why? thats not sad

ok once again 4 the 1000th time heres what MM should do

they should offer hs+ for sale just like it used to be, would that make u
happy??

then the rest of us will buy dw and get hs+ too and we'll have paid less money

why complain its less money than it was before?

or buy hs and fork out another $35 to upgrade it and if u all have been using
it for all these yrs why do u need a new one?

i understand that maybe u wanted it upgraded now, which would be nice but like

Because Dreamweaver MX 2004 with Homesite+ costs nearly 4 times as much as a
standalone copy of Homesite, it's a bit on the nose that developers have to
fork out an extra $280 US dollars if all they want is the few extra features

HomeSite is still available separately at the same price it has always been.

HomeSite+ = ColdFusion Studio. ColdFusion Studio used to cost $499.
HomeSite+ is given away with Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver costs $399.

In other words, Macromedia are letting you buy CF Studio for $100
*LESS* than it used to cost.

Or...

Allaire used to charge nearly 5 times as much (for CF Studio) as a
standalone copy of HomeSite.

What exactly is your beef?

Does anyone know why homesite 5.5 might all of a sudden stop rendering
cfm code... it displays HTML fine, but displays cfm code as #blah# or
doesn't show it at all... I checked in file settings/extension manager
and cfm files are checked as being viewable...

Homesite+ is the new name for CF Studio, which was essentially an enhanced
version of Homesite back when it existed. CF Studio alone cost as much as
Dreamweaver and Homesite+ together do now. Those "few extra features" were
always pretty expensive.

Amen, Dave.

We spent $6,000 on a ten-pack of ColdFusion Studio with 2-year maintenance
for our training business just before the product was killed. We got
upgrades to Dreamweaver (pre-MX), but *damn* that hurt. Now you can buy ten

HomeSite is and always has been the $99 product.

HomeSite+ = ColdFusion Studio = former $499 product.

The name reflects the fact that CF Studio was really HomeSite plus a
bunch of CF-specific stuff.

Both HomeSite and HomeSite+ have had upgrade releases.

DW (which costs $399) ships with HS+ - so you can effectively get CFS
for $100 off the original price.

I'm still not quite sure what the beef is here? People still seem to
be confusing HomeSite with HomeSite+...

Re: Homesite

2005-01-14 Thread Joe Rinehart
I think for someone who doesn't know the history of CF Studio,
HomeSite, and Dreamweaver, it could be quite confusing. No mention
of HomeSite or HomeSite+ appears on Dreamweaver product or store
homepages, and it's stuck with a vague description at the bottom of
the products page in the "More" category, right beside Fontographer.

Sean's message was the first time I've seen it clearly publicly stated
as to why HomeSite+ is called "plus." It's a little vague that it
means HomeSite+ = CF Studio - there's no mention of CF Studio on
HomeSite's homepage.

While I agree with him that it's a great price for ColdFusion Studio
($100 bucks off, and you get DW), it puzzles me as to why it took a
discussion thread this long to get clearly stated. I'm a big fan of
Macromedia products, but sometimes I don't feel MM does a good job
educating its (potential) customers as to what their products or
corporate goals are. This inspired my most recent blog entry, as I
should probably get off my soap box now and not take this thread any
further OT.

Re: Homesite

2005-01-15 Thread Michael Traher
Our development team has been using CFStudio / Homesite+ quite happily
but when we started using CVS for source control the integration was
not great so we used other products.

We are now begining to switch to CFECLIPSE and while there is a small
learning curve to go through there are plenty of resources (including
some amusing video tutorials -
http://www.rohanclan.com/projects/cfeclipse/index.cfm ) to get you
started. Also lots of helpful info here
http://www.dopefly.com/pages/cfeclipse.cfm

There are several reasons to use CFEclipse
1 You can download it for free
2 It is actively being developed and you can get involved and suggest
new features
3. Since it is part of the eclipse project hundreds of other plug-ins
are available to enhance the way you work (I'm using the built in CVS
integration and a database plugin called SQLExplorer as well as the
CFEclipse plugin of course)

I recommend it and learning curve is not too painful.

But if you read the HomeSite FAQ:

http://www.macromedia.com/software/homesite/productinfo/faq/

it answers some of these questions and for a long time the following
page was prominently linked from both the HomeSite and Dreamweaver
areas of the site:

http://www.macromedia.com/software/homesite/productinfo/faq/dw_hs_faq.html

This outlined the whole HomeSite / Dreamweaver / ColdFusion Studio
structure and in particular:

"Macromedia HomeSite+ is a separate product included with Dreamweaver
MX that combines the functionality of Macromedia HomeSite 5 and
ColdFusion Studio 5, while adding support for the newest ColdFusion MX
tags through new tag editors and tag insight menus. Macromedia
HomeSite+ is not sold as a separate product and is only available with
Dreamweaver MX."

As you can tell from that page, it's no longer an active page - all
the images are broken - but it is still searchable (I found it by
searching for dreamweaver homesite faq).

And keep in mind that one of the key features of HomeSite+ is the debugging,
which doesn't work with CFMX. So the lack of that in HomeSite regular isn't
much of a loss of a feature if you are no longer on CF 5 and lower.

Yes, DWMX will do site-wide find and replace.

Note that Dreamweaver MX - part of the Studio MX bundle - contains
HomeSite+. You can read the FAQs about CF Studio and HomeSite here:

You should be able to in DWMX, just hit cntrl-f and take a look at your
options there.

There is no significant difference between CF Studio 5 and Homesite+.
Homesite 5 doesn't have the ability to connect to a CF server via RDS, which
can be used to browse the filesystem or datasources of that CF server
through the web server, but other than that I don't think there's any other
significant difference between it and the others.

Stolen from the Macromedia Homesite Forums regarding Homesite+

2002-05-31 Thread Todd

Hi all,

I wanted to address the issues you're all seeing with the limitations in
panel dragging and customization in HomeSite+. These changes were
documented in the release notes, as pointed out below, but I'm sure you all
want a better explanation.

For reference, a good description of what exactly has been changed is
available here:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/homesite/releasenotes/plus/releasenotes_plus.html#known

I'm afraid our hands are tied when it comes to making these changes. They
weren't done to in some way limit HomeSite+, they were done out of legal
requirements. All of the Macromedia MX products had to change because of
this (compare Dreamweaver MX shipping version to the preview release, for
example). We're aware that these changes are important to some people, so
here are some things we can do to mitigate them:

You can download VTM tag updaters for ColdFusion Studio 4.5 and 5 to get
ColdFusion MX tag support into these products (this essentially gives CF
Studio 4.5 or 5 the same functionality of HomeSite+). Download the updater
here:
http://www.macromedia.com/software/coldfusionstudio/productinfo/resources/tag_updaters/

You can also download the CFML help tree for HomeSite+ here:
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/homesite/updates/cfml_ref.zip

Please feel free to ask for any further clarifications or questions.

David,

I haven't checked any of the final release software out yet...but what was
the result from the Adobe lawsuit? I knew that macromedia lost, and I think
I remember it being over the panels but could you shed some light on the
suit results/effects on the software?

While none of the currently shipping software was named in the lawsuit, we did
proactively make some changes based upon all of this stuff that's been keeping the

RE: Stolen from the Macromedia Homesite Forums regarding Homesite +

2002-06-01 Thread Ronald West

Funny how Adobe was awarded $2.8M for it's original (bogus) suit against MM
and MM was awarded $4.9M in it's counter suit (which probably would have
never been filed in the first place).

So does that mean the DMX will still use the tabs because I really like
them.

Homesite 9 project

2010-06-01 Thread Michael Dinowitz

I'll be updating Homesite to the latest (CF9) docs. If anyone has any
suggestions, requests, whatever, please let me know. I'll also try and
update some of the tag controls. I have a program to do this visually
but it'll be a long process.

Thanks

What's the point of splitting the code view in Studio? I mean I have not

top and a different one bottom. So why would one use that feature?
