Now whatever file you're editing is highlighted in the navigator. Then you navigate to your second project / file and when you're done just control-left-arrow to switch back to the previously viewed file and the navigator pane automatically jumps back to that file / project too. -- Sean A Corfield -- http://www.corfield.org/ Team Fusebox -- http://www.fusebox.org/ Breeze Me! -- http://www.corfield.org/breezeme Got Gmail? -- I have 5 invites to give away! RE: OT: Homesite enhancement project?
but thats just opinions, its fine for me i learned on dw so i prefer it. homesite to me feels alien and cheap but then again i do the whole site and design not just the code and i couldnt see making a cssp in homesite without major frustration. u could say for the css to have say topstyle open and i could say if u dont like the folder layout in dw to just upen up the folder and click on the file u want and have it open up in dw. as for the panels, they can be moved, removed collapsed, whatever u want, heres even a nifty extension http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?promoid=home_short_exchange_052804#view=sn121&viewName=Dreamweaver%20Extension&loc=en_us&authorid=0&page=0&scrollPos=0&subcatid=0&snid=sn121&itemnumber=-1&extid=1021809&catid=0&promoid=home_short_exchange_052804 at least u have tools that are actually productive and u can use for diff languages, try that with the ms ide's. whats gunna happen is someone is gunna come out with a sweeet ide that really is nice for us all and ppl will still complain cause the color of the panels is wrong or they dont like the layout or something. no ones ever gunna be happy. like cfeclipse, i could see really working with it if it had a split view like dw. know what i mean? -- Original Message -- From: "Calvin Ward" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: cf-talk@houseoffusion.com Date: Fri, 14 Jan 2005 06:55:36 -0500 >Dave, your message is really difficult to read. > >I'm not sure that your assessment of Robert not knowing how to use >Dreamweaver is accurate at all. Over to the File pane to find it. I can see the sense in this, but again, right-click to find the current file in either navigator view or file explorer view will allow you to quickly jump around in the file system without needing a second view. The only case I can think of that it wouldn't solve is if you were creating links to files in your code (cfinclude, img, href, link for example) and you couldn't remember the name of the files you were linking to. Going back and forth would definitely be easier with a second file view, but I'm inclined to think that we could probably solve that one more elegantly anyhow. > > - This one is more administrative. I use multiple panes for a variety of things, but here are a couple of examples: - I'm writing a bit of code and I need a function that I know I have written before or that I have sitting around somewhere. I normally work in the Project pane, so I can use a File pane to go look for the file that has the function I need and I don't have to lose my place in my project. - Similar to above, I want to use a custom tag/UDF, etc. and I don't remember its structure. Over to the File pane to find it. - This one is more administrative. I want to look at something in another system, say a test or production environments, or someone else's working project, without losing my place in the current project. Not that I can't find my way back :-), but it saves mouse clicks. I have been thinking for awhile that there is no good configuration management tool for dev/test/production web apps in CF. I use the Archive and Deploy features in CF Admin, but there are limits to what it can do. You can't build an archive on one system and deploy it to another from a single interface, for instance. That whole thing is really a separate project from a CF IDE, but it matches the thinking of part of the Eclipse project where people are building administrative tools in the Eclipse platform. > > > > - Split file/folder panes. That would be very useful. Overall I am very encouraged by what I see, especially with the VSS plugin (the lack of which was a deal-breaker before). What I see and read is that, because all the plugin development teams work on their own with loose coordination with the Eclipse platform team, it can be tricky to get all the plugins you need on an Eclipse build where everything works. I will happily submit my configuration as an example of what to do once I can get everything smoothed out, and I am going to give CFE a go here for a few days and see what other feedback I can provide. ~| Discover CFTicket - The leading ColdFusion Help Desk and Trouble Ticket application http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=

RE: OT: Homesite enhancement project?
Dreamweaver has the find the current file option as well, This changes the focus of the file panel and results in losing your place in the file structure, which is also undesirable when you just want to know what file you are in. Of course if there were multiple file panels, maybe this wouldn't be as potentially disruptive. The other value of dividing the files and folders is quickness of navigation and being able to easily see where in the file structure you are in the file panel itself. - Calvin -Original Message- From: Spike [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, January 14, 2005 11:35 AM To: CF-Talk Subject: Re: OT: Homesite enhancement project? Re: OT: Homesite enhancement project?
There's a few things that I've been frustrated with about both CFS, HS+, and DW... but like Spike said... "working" is subjective. If they say "it does this and costs this much" and you pay that much and it does... then it "works." And DWMX 2k4 is FAR superior to DWMX. Upgrade if you can. There's some things that just don't make sense to me about DW 2k4, though. Like the lack of integration between the Behaviors tab, cfinput tags, and CFMX's built-in JS validation generator. Those things are linked for us, directly linked, and to have DW refuse to recognize a named CFINPUT tag, a named CFFORM tag, etc., really struck me as being "broken" or even "incomplete." But, I use both DW 2k4 and HS+, in tandem, and I don't mind either one. I mean, there's things about every IDE that I hate, or dislike, or am annoyed by, or had to learn to work around. When someone invents the perfect IDE for something, please let me know and I'll give you every bit of money I can scrape together for it. I think HS:neural would be cool... HomeSite with a neural interface... nifty. Another thing that just never made any sense is the fact that desktop integration for RDS/FTP is built in, but you can't use it for anything but browsing. Why on earth do I want a Macromedia RDS&FTP icon in my computer when I can't use it to upload or download files? Maybe I've been doing something wrong all these years, but for me, even back in the CFStudio 4.0 days... it never friggin worked right. And yeah, after reading Sean's post about the wishlist and bugfix pages, I'll do that. I think these things seem so obvious to me that the fact that they don't work as expected leaves me feeling a little... suspicious or disgusted... but I'm an adaptable guy, and since I have a place to make my beef known, I'll take it there. Re: OT: Homesite enhancement project?
In CFEclipse, Spike added the CFStudio style Explorer, does this help people? I have got my head round using projects and tend to not use this explorer too much (I guess its a matter of preference) IMHO having TWO of these is nuts. you have a project view already (where your site should be in theory) and then the Explorer view that allows you to view local files and do FTP actions. A note on the snippets, if you are used to donig CTRL+space for code completion already you can map the instert snippet action to this too which makes it really intuitive "fusedoc CTRL + space " for example just rocks my boat I love the idea of doing "CTRL + i " list of snippets (like code completion) + . Saves my dumb Homer like brain from remembering the quazillion shortcuts, although havnig said that there are a couple that I do love in CFE, that if they are equivalents in DW I havent spotted Ctrl + Shift + d = surround with Ctrl + d = delete line (bye bye CFDUMP) Ctrl + E = show list of open documents (then you can put the first leter of the document and it filters by it) The nice thing about the list of documents in CFE is that they are done in name + path that II find very useful (especially if you do fusebox as I have fbx_Switches by the stack) Anyway, to each his own but I only use CFStudio now as it has the best documentation on it MD On Fri, 14 Jan 2005 06:55:36 -0500, Calvin Ward <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Dave, your message is really difficult to read. > > I'm not sure that your assessment of Robert not knowing how to use > Dreamweaver is accurate at all. Dave, your message is really difficult to read. I'm not sure that your assessment of Robert not knowing how to use Dreamweaver is accurate at all. The reality is that there is a significant amount of scrolling with that design for files and folders that simply isn't necessary. My laptop is 1400 by 1050, and my workstation is 1280 by 1024, and both of them involve a lot of scrolling that also results in disconnection from where in the file structure you are. ---adirectory ---mydirectory Is something similar to what I'm getting used to seeing in that panel. Of course, if you want to actively use any of the other panels at the same time, those panels also eat up that screen real estate. I don't think its great usability at all. The DW layout really bugs me, and personally I think it represents very poor usability. Here we spend all this time learning to build usable Web sites that don't scroll, and we end up with an IDE with endless scrolling. It would be really cool if the panes were detachable. - VSS integration - Something like the Tag Inspector pane in HS+. I don't use it all THAT often, but I find it comes in really handy on occasion, especially when looking at someone else's code. - The current top 10 on CFEclipse look good, although I would have put the CFC thing lower given that the server can do that already. Most of all, above everything else, I would like a system that is well documented and comes with an easy-to-install, well understood baseline package. I have downloaded and setup Eclipse on a bunch of machines, and yet I just downloaded it (3.01) to install on my laptop and I got a "JVM terminated. Exit code=1" error. Will triggers automatically wrap around a hightlighted section of code? Trigger characters have been in CF Studio/HS for a long time, though they are called "Code Templates". Just enter a couple of trigger letters and then "crtl+j". For those who do not know: To add a "Code Templates" in CF Studio/HS, go to Options > Setting > Code Templates. >You can't assign keyboard shortcuts to snippets in exactly the same way >as you can in Homesite, but you can do something that is potentially >much more powerful. > >For each snippet you can assign a set trigger trigger characters such as >"cff" for a snippet that inserts a cffunction block. Re: OT: Homesite enhancement project?
The problem that we ran into with this was that Eclipse requires you to have a Java class that gets called for each keyboard shortcut. That makes it kinda tricky to allow you to assign any keyboard shortcut to any arbitrary action since the class would have to be generated on the fly. Either that or we'd have to rewrite a fairly significant chunk of the keyboard shortcut handling in Eclipse. Neither of those options was particularly appealing, so we went with the trigger text idea. Re: OT: Homesite enhancement project?
You can't assign keyboard shortcuts to snippets in exactly the same way as you can in Homesite, but you can do something that is potentially much more powerful. For each snippet you can assign a set trigger trigger characters such as "cff" for a snippet that inserts a cffunction block. When you type that trigger followed by ctrl+i it will insert the snippet and prompt you for any custom snippet variables in the snippet. You can configure a different shortcut to use instead of ctrl+i. The reason that this is much more powerful is that it allows you to have an infinite number of snippets assigned to shortcuts without having to sacrifice existing keyboard shortcuts. It does require typing an extra character or two, so your mileage may vary. You can make "trigger text" which handle most case for example you can assign ab to snippet and then type ab[ctrl+i] and it will become - there are some other features that go along with trigger text, and most basic key bindings exist already (like ctrl+3, ctrl+shift+m ctrl+o (for cfoutput), etc), but it is true you can just assign, say, ctrl+g to something. > On Thu, 13 Jan 2005 17:23:21 -0400, Stan Winchester > <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I would like to be able to right click on tags to open a tag editor like > > in HS. > > > > It would be nice if HS/CF Studio snippets could be imported. > > > > >Hi Robert, > > > > > >Can you give some more details on what would need to mature in cfeclipse > > >before you would switch to it? > > > > > >Spike > > > > > >Robert Munn wrote: > > >> > > > > > > ~| Discover CFTicket - The leading ColdFusion Help Desk and Trouble Ticket application http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=48 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:4:190339 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.4 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54

Homesite+ is legacy code, a Windows-only IDE. Supporting CFEclipse or DreamWeaver enhancements to add in the features that you like about HS+ is a more realistic goal, IMHO. I like HS+, but it no longer makes sense to support platform-dependent environments. I'd love to use Linux as my desktop OS for development, but I'm still hooked into HS+ until CFE matures or someone else comes along with another product. I think it's a worthy goal to work on stuff like syntax highlighters for HS+, but what is the size of the audience for something like PHP support in HS+? I followed those instructions before, and built eclipse, but I remember that the latest stuff wasn't in there, either CFEclipse view was missing totally, or the file explorer wasn't available. I don't remember which one. Perhaps I didn't do it properly, but I think we definitely need better instructions on how to build and deploy the latest version. To be honest I'm not totally sure how the software update mechanism works either. There are a few possibilities, but we want to make sure we get it right so it doesn't screw up anyone's machine. RE: OT: Homesite enhancement project?
> -Original Message- > From: Spike [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > What issues did you run into with phpeclipse? Phpeclipse doesn't have a software update repository, you have to install it manually then do "eclipse -clean". The problem is that this doesn't work reliably, it seems to only work once then refuse to work again. So you install CFEclipse via software update, install phpeclipse manually, run -clean and they're fine, then you realise you wanted svneclipse and the FTP plugins too so you add those via software update and hey presto, phpeclipse disappears, and -clean doesn't bring it back again. You backtrack so cfeclipse+phpeclipse (I got smart by this stage and kept a backup of those two working) and try instead to install the CSS editor (manually), run -clean again and hey-presto, both phpeclipse and the CSS editor disappear. I dealt with that for several hours and just didn't feel it was worth my time messing with anymore. Every single Eclipse plugin out there should have a software update repository somewhere so that its all easy to install and until they do it just isn't IMHO worth the price of entry. -- Damien McKenna - Web Developer - [EMAIL PROTECTED] The Limu Company - http://www.thelimucompany.com/ - 407-804-1014 #include ~| Find out how CFTicket can increase your company's customer support efficiency by 100% http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=49 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:4:190306 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54

Andy, Oh I think that Macromedia will eventually open source Homesite. If you can wait until 2007 :<). Re: OT: Homesite enhancement project?
Sounds like a great idea to me. I bought DWMX to get HS+, personally. Needed another license. I don't so much mind that given current pricing is lower than CFStudio was, but I also don't expect to see much in the way of new HS+ features down the road. This would at least attempt to address the problem. -- --mattRobertson-- Janitor, MSB Web Systems mysecretbase.com ~| Find out how CFTicket can increase your company's customer support efficiency by 100% http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=49 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:4:190233 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54

I don't think an add-on shop would really take off, there are some things that need to be addressed that can't be handled by add-ons. Just my 2 cents...
