RE: CF-Partners List

2001-05-02 Thread Daniel Lancelot

I've found that if you group by conversation (outlook 2k), you seem to get
your mails sorted roughly iin the order they arrive - newest at the top - as
oppossed to grouping by subject, where they arrive 1/2 way down a list of
x,000 subjects...

Hewolses,

If you use Microsoft Outlook, you can turn on Group Sorting, and sort the
emails by Subject.
That helps a lot if you want to read a particular thread of conversation,
and is practically the same thing that the webbased archives will do for
you, except that doing it on your own computer is a lot quicker.

Re: CF-Partners List

2001-05-01 Thread Michael Kear

Ok Bonnie, let me give you the shortened version ...

1. Someone at Macromedia had a brilliant idea, probably over the fifth
chardonnay of the evening that they could screw a lot more money out of
teh rich fat hosting companies if they gave them a special edition of CF
and charged them a whole lot more for it.

2. Macromedia announced the good news.

3. Every small developer in the world howled from the rooftops and sales
of ASP textbooks soared at Amazon.com

4. The guy at Macromedia, nursing a sore head, saw the messages in teh
cold light of day and pondered for a while if he could brazen it out, but
decided he wasn't in the White House and Wasn't at Redmond so he figured
it was probably an idea who's day hadn't come yet.

5. Macromedia announced they'd listened to the developers and weren't
going to do this afterall.

6. Every small developer in the world howled from the rooftops that
Macromedia were great cos they listen to their customers. (Great huh? If
Macromedia had taken the more traditional approach to lunatic ideas, and
just let it die or pretended it was not a real idea only a proposal that
wasn't going to be implemented, the good pR wouldn't have happened for
them.)

7. The CF developoment community went back to work.

Now you don't have to read it all.

Re: CF-Partners List

2001-05-01 Thread Bonnie Betts

Ya know, I was thinking

My computer has been down for about 3 days now,... I come back online to
find this hot topic blazing on the list about the Hosting edition,
CF-Partners, etc. and I really would like to just focus on that subject
alone. I sorted my email by subject, but still that didnt' get me any
chronological order of the subject etc. Not to mention that I can't
possibly read it all before I go to bed and can't get my emails that have
downloaded at work tomorrow so I can't finish follow-up at work. It's
really too bad this format isn't an online forum instead of an email list.
I just started a new job this week so I didn't have a chance yet to
subscribe for my work email address yet. And I actually dread doing that
because that would mean wading thru 200ish emails/day both at home and at
work and many would be duplicates (time waste reading dups). Is there an
archive section of subjects or list postings etc that I'm not aware of?
Does anyone have a suggestion for a 'wander CF Devr' to stay current (while

Re: CF-Partners List

2001-04-30 Thread Michael Dinowitz

*** Team Allaire ***
Actually, there is a donations address signed up at paypal
(https://secure.paypal.x.com/affil/pal=donations%40fusionauthority.com). At
one point a few people from the Fusebox list sent in some donations and we
got some new software with it. Truth be told, I'd rather get corporate
sponsors of one form or another to help support the lists and the FA
magazine. I always appreciate when people donate, but having the 'big guys'
giving takes some weight off of peoples shoulders.
One of the main supports of the lists and FA is CFHosting.com. The cost of
the bandwidth used by the HoF machine is covered by them and they deserve a
big nod for it. They're also working with me on other resources for the
community and it's only because of my need to work that they're not up yet.
I've branched out some and have gotten help so they will be up and running
soon. As you've seen, we're getting up to date on the FA alerts, putting in
better navigation for it and even upgrading the annotated docs to CF 5.
I'm even talking to a big CF player at the moment about a sponsorship that
could help get more resources out there and maybe even tie some of them
together (not absorbing the resources that exist, but giving them better
communication and sharing).

On the topic of "mine is bigger than yours", the list gets an average of 200
posts a day. Multiply that by 30 days and that's your 6000 messages. Now if
that's just a month, think of how much you have after a year. Now think of
ALL the lists together.
Anyone want to buy me a new hard drive for my mail alone? ;)

Umm, I must have got the wrong end of the stick.

I'd thought Michael was saying that had set up something which flagged the
sender of a CF-Talk e-mail as having been sent from a macromedia.com e-mail
address (I'd been opening some e-mails to see if they were Macromedia
employees). Maybe not.

Ignore me... it's one of those days.

Dave,
if you go to signup for the list you will see the following text:
CF-Partners is a mailing list dealing with the relationship between the
ColdFusion community and MacroMedia. We are all partners in the growth of
ColdFusion and this is a central list for communication between these two
groups.

Besides this new list, I've added a special header to all posts from

them so they do not 'get lost' in the deluge of mail that many developers
receive.

Great idea. I was getting sick of opening up e-mails (in Outlook) just to
see if an e-mail came from a macromedia.com address.
