Sebastian I had a lot of problems running 4.5.x on my Win2k computer until I did the following: I removed Studio 4.0 completely from my system. Moved my snippets and other customizations (like Help, etc.) to a temporary directory. Re: Studio 4.5.2
I got Windows 2000 installed now. I install the CF Server from the CF Studio 4.5.2. I restart and I get all kinds of error messages such as: userinit.exe failed to initialize properly Service - AuthSrv.exe generated errors and will be closed Service - AzSrv.exe generated errors and will be closed I can't even get to the desktop and just get an empty screen. I went into safe mode and uninstalled the CF server and I was able to get to my desktop without any errors. Does this many sense to anyone? RE: studio 4.5.2
Studio4.5.2's project deployment doesnt work. Unless you want to always deploy the entire project, and ensure that every last folder on the remote site already exists before you start deploying. Project deployment doesnt work if you try to upload only the changed files, or you try to upload a project to a remote site that doesnt have all the folders already there. Not bad huh for an app that costs more than the whole MS Office2000 and Adobe Photoshop. Almost as much as SQL server. And it breaks every time you try to use it as advertised. And they 've had 3 versions and done nothing about fixing it, despite hundreds of complaints from people on this list and others. You might remember, a short while ago, a brave soul from Allaire's development team came on here and said "we want to know your wish list for the next version of CF server", and for the next week or so he was beseiged with requests from people who were FAR more concerned about getting a Studio that didn't break their systems, didn't crash ten times a day, and that worked as advertised. Result? Not a damn thing. Yet Studio is the part of the system that affects the people who work ColdFusion most on a day-to-day basis. If a site is well designed, the site visitors aren't really all that aware that ColdFusion is working behind the scenes. Developers, however are intimately aware that their product is or isn't working properly. Basically, I am embarassed nearly every day by my client who swears by his fine website, but abuses me for letting him buy Studio. The sheer shoddiness of Studio has affected the client's whole attitude to Allaire and the other products. I just wish Allaire had taken the same attention to detail and the same urgency with fixing problems with Studio that they have with the server products. Having said that, I also should say that despite all its faults, Studio is still my editor of choice - I'd choose Studio over my favourite text editor, Ultra Edit, and over Dreamweaver UltraDev. It's just that my staff and family get angry at my regular outbursts of venom against Allaire's developers. RE: studio 4.5.2
Don't you mean Malaria (Macromedia + Allaire=Malaria)? I am also seeing lots of weird stuff with RDS and FTP. My main problems with RDS center around renaming and deleting files via their file management interface. FTP gives me messages all the time about timeouts... Having said that: in spite of any problems I have, I really do love CF Studio. And furthermore, when it works, RDS is simply amazing--what a BIG timesaver. And the improvements in CFS 4.52 where you RIGHT click on a tag and get "select tag" (unless you're right clicking on a style sheet in which case you get a short-cut to Top Style) are really great... RE: studio 4.5.2
All right, so long ago, I upgraded to studio 4.5, hated it, and went back to 4.0. Now, all I've heard is good things about 4.5.2, so I installed 4.5 again and upgraded to 4.5.2. Now, I keep getting low resource warnings (which was not happening with 4.0) AND when I browse a directory that has sub-directories, I have to click the folder icon of subdirectory and then click the icon of the directory before I can see files that aren't in one of the sub-folders. Am I the only one that this is happening to? Or are these common bugs and I should just resign myself to the idea that I'm never going to get past 4.0. The resource warning isn't a bug - it's a real feature (Studio 4.5.2 uses less resources than 4.5, but still a fair amount) To remove the warning - this was sent by Allaire support during the Beta; There are two registry keys you can add to control the resource warning level % and the checking interval. We default these, but you can add them to your HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Allaire\Cold Fusion Studio 4.5 main root key Key #1: ResourceLevelCheck - an integer % indicating the starting threshold to start warning about resources. Our default is 30%. Key #2: ResourceLevelInterval - an integer indicating the number of minutes interval to check resources. The default is 10. You can completely disable resource monitoring (highly unrecommended) by setting this to 0. RE: studio 4.5.2
Deanna. Basically CF Studio 4.5.2 sucks big time, specifically in FTP, RDS and Projects with RDS. I was able to finally get it to be more stable though there are still things that drive me buggy. I am running Windows 2000 server SP1. I can't say this will help in other versions. YMMV. Proceed at your own risk. Steps. 1. Write down your serial number from CF studio 4.5 (This is all you need for the CF studio 4.5.2 upgrade I promise) 2. Uninstall both CF studio 4.5 and 4.0. Make sure that they are completely deleted from the hard drive after the install. 3. Go ahead and delete the following files in WINNT/system32. cfvalidator.dll circ3.ocx CFSourceControl.ocx CfShellFtpRds.dll CFFileProxy.dll CFFtp.dll CFRegExp.dll cfssvradmin.dll wddx_com.dll xmlparse.dll xmltok.dll cfmsg.dll CFRDS.dll 4. Go into Registry Editor and delete the following entries. HKEY_CURRENT_USER-Software-Allaire-HomeSite4 - Entire Directory HKEY_CURRENT_USER-Software-Allaire-HomeSite45 - Entire Directory HKEY_CURRENT_USER-Software-Allaire-Studio4 - Entire Directory HKEY_CURRENT_USER-Software-Allaire-Studio45 - Entire Directory HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-SOFTWARE-Allaire-Any directory to do with either homesite or ColdFusion Studio. 5. Reboot your machine. 6. Regsrv32 all the dlls reinstalled in WINNT/system32. See http://www.allaire.com/Handlers/index.cfm?ID=14633Method=Full for instructions. 7. Reboot again. 8. Run CF Studio It will still suck, but it will suck a bit less. Unfortunately, it seems (at least to me) that CFStudio 4.5.x and CFStudio 4.0 do not reside comfortably on the same machine, its all or nothing. and the uninstall sucks big time, it didn't seem to delete anything. -Original Message- From: Deanna L.
