Michael,

I'll buy the parts and some 20 billet wheels that fits just right so
if its 7/16 and the wheels doesnt fit my lawyeer will contact you !!!

Of course I'm just kidding and I just wanted to thank everybody for all
the info.

:) André

If you go with the swap to tall spindles it does widen your front stan
ce. I
belive it does so by like 3/8 on both sides but dont hold me to that
number
that is just off the top of my head.

I could need some info on 12 disc brakes and tall spindles.
How much better is this setup than the standard parts
which are the cars I could take them from ?

The 12 tall spindle setup will not necessarily stop you any better t
han
the four piston disc brake setup. Are you having troubles with the 4
piston calipers (sucking air, leaking calipers, too expensive to
maintain), or do you want improved handling? If not, then stick with
your stock four piston setup. This setup is rare and better to lea
ve
with a car if you are interested in collector value. But if this doe
s
not concern you, I bet you could sell the setup and pay for the swap.

What parts to take, rotors and spindles or would I need
   control arms as well ??

You can find lots of info here:
 http://www.globalwest.net/1964-72%
20disc_brake_conversion_informatio.htm
 https://www.hotchkis.net/frames/instructions.htm
http://www.hotrod.com/ (Car Tech - Tech Articles - Suspension
 Upgrades)

You do not need the upper control arms, but you can't get a decent
alignment without them. If you like going through tires, no problem.
  I
swapped to the replacement upper A-Arms after going through the first
set of $250/ea tires in the front from uneven wear.

would I need to redrill the rotors to 4,75
will my 1968 4 piston calipers fit on the spindle or would I need
to
   make a bracket ?

I think the two cannot be used together. If you go to the taller
spindles, you will be using the floating single piston caliper, and n
ot
your four piston setup. Either way, you should not need to redrill
anything, as the rotors all use the same bolt spacing.

I heard that this will lower the car 1, but will front track
   be wider or narrower ???

I'm not sure if there is a difference in width. I would expect it wo
uld
be very close to the same, but it could be off by a little.

[Chevelle-List] Went to Car Show

2002-04-29 Thread Keith Cooper

I took the 71 Chevelle to three car shows
this weekend and learned lot about shows. The first show was a AACA event in New
Smyrna Beach, FL. This was not a class show, but what everyone calls a Fun Show.
Their was judging by the participates, and the city mayor for a total of six
awards. I did not win. The second show was not a judging show, but a show off
event at the Volusia Mall. The third event wasone in Titisville, Fl. There
were 12 awards given out and again, I did not win. I can see the problem now and
will have to stop trying and wishing that I could win some kind of award for my
car. My car is classified as a Modified. This puts me in with all 193?-1980
cars. Some of these people have spent 10,15,000 or more fixing the car. These
look to me like cars and people who may have had the car taken somewhere and
done by a pro restore business. There is no why I and anyone else could compete
with this. Oh Well, I had fun any way. I will just have to go for fun
now. Most of the awards are going to 1930's 1940's and 1950's cars. Another
problem I see is that their are too many car clubs. How does one keep up with
this. There was a Goodguy show in Orlando, but I decided not to go. It was a
full sunny weekend and the Orlando show has no shade nowhere. I cooked at the
Titisville show as it was. If this lady next to me at the show had not shared
her 45 sunblocking lotion with me, I would be a lobster right now.
I did meet Jeff from the list and had fun
looking over his car. I can not even compete with his car. It was a thing of
beauty. He should be very proud. I hope over time to meet with others on the
list. Just thought I would share myweekend.

Re: [Chevelle-List] Quadra Jet

2002-04-29 Thread bdo_chevelle

Tom, I'm under the impression you're doing a restoration
on your '64. If this is true a Q-Jet would be
incorrect, but if you really want one you can get them
new from GM and Edelbrock offers a version (these are
the options Jim Hunter's considering), and for rebuilds
you might start with your local Yellow Pages and also
check Hemmings Motor News for rebuilders. Good luck!

Brad O.

Anyone know the cheapest place to buy a new/rebuilt quadra jet for 283?
Car has a worn out Holly Spread Bore on it now.

Gents,

In order to keep momma happy, and not drive myself crazy on long
drives, I would like to keep the car relatively quiet inside. I know I can
do this with quiet mufflers, but like the idea of the kit from FlowMaster or some other kit as I want new pipes from
front to back. Looks to me like this kit only comes with
one muffler model if I am reading this
right.

I'd still like to
have a little rumble and don't want to restrict my big block too much
either. So I am thinking about putting in that sound deadening insulation
under the carpets and inside the doors and firewall. How do you get this
stuff to stick on a vertical surface for long term? Anyone use it? What do

Yeah and a Central Illinois driver can be identified by seeing how
close they can ride your bumper while traveling as fast as one can drive in
bumper to bumper traffic with the one beside them trying to slide over
between the bumpers, while eating a McDonalds Cheeseburger and talking on a
cell phone about all the highway construction they are currently driving

I think I foung the governor, but I want to make sure
before I pry the case off - it is on the passenger

good), and double checked vac. lines, but car is still
having the problem. Is what I found the governor??

Bill, a few things can cause this to happen.
1, The governor valve may be stuck.
2, The governor driven gear may be worn.
3, The 1 - 2 shift valve train might be stuck.
 4, Damaged intermediate roller clutch.
 5, Damaged intermediate clutch.
The governor is on the left rear of your trans. It
 will have a bail wire
holding it in place. Remove this wire and pull the
 cover off. Try not to
damage the gasket. If you do, you'll have to buy a
 new one.(probably
would'nt hurt anyway) Pull the governor out and
 inspect it for worn or
missing teeth on the gear. Check the counter weights
 to make sure they are
not binding and they flop around easy. While you
have it out, check the case
for scoring or porosity where the governor came out.
 If you have this, it
will allow a cross leak that will not build
 pressure.
I don't think it is the modulator. (But you never
know) A bad mod. will give
you rough shifts, it may cause the trans to slip
through one or all the gear
ranges. Also befor you do any of this, be sure your
 trans fluid level it
normal. Also, you didn't say what year the trans
 was. This would help pin
the problem down without driving it. Engineering
 changes were done all the
time during production. Hope this kind of helps you
 track the problem. Let
me know. I may have to dust off my repair manual to
 look for more causes.

this was a deal on a handshake He actually loaded the car and got

but HELL I wanted the car not the money. Some people have no integrity.
The sad part about it is that I know for a fact that the car is back sitting

Sooo the moral of the story is get some money together and get over there

and 4 speed. Burgundy, white strips, the car has 25,000 orginal miles.
Only
one small mark, size of a dime. What would this we worth??
The guy is thinking of selling it.

Actually Bill, the governor is on the drivers side right in front of the
speedo connection. Yes, it is a round piece of stamped metal that looks like
an ash tray and has a bail wire holding it in place.

I think I foung the governor, but I want to make sure
before I pry the case off - it is on the passenger
side, rear of transmission. It is round, and has a
metal snap holding it down. I did change filter/fluid
(only small ammount of debris in pan, fluid looked
good), and double checked vac. lines, but car is still
having the problem. Is what I found the governor??

 Thanks!!

Bill, a few things can cause this to happen.
1, The governor valve may be stuck.
2, The governor driven gear may be worn.
3, The 1 - 2 shift valve train might be stuck.
  4, Damaged intermediate roller clutch.
  5, Damaged intermediate clutch.
The governor is on the left rear of your trans. It
  will have a bail wire
holding it in place. Remove this wire and pull the
  cover off. Try not to
damage the gasket. If you do, you'll have to buy a
  new one.(probably
would'nt hurt anyway) Pull the governor out and
  inspect it for worn or
missing teeth on the gear. Check the counter weights
  to make sure they are
not binding and they flop around easy. While you
have it out, check the case
for scoring or porosity where the governor came out.
  If you have this, it
will allow a cross leak that will not build
  pressure.
I don't think it is the modulator. (But you never
know) A bad mod. will give
you rough shifts, it may cause the trans to slip
through one or all the gear
ranges. Also befor you do any of this, be sure your
  trans fluid level it
normal. Also, you didn't say what year the trans
  was. This would help pin
the problem down without driving it. Engineering
  changes were done all the
time during production. Hope this kind of helps you
  track the problem. Let
me know. I may have to dust off my repair manual to
  look for more causes.

Anyone know what could keep a TH350 from shifting
  out
of 1st? Reverse and 1st work fine, but when it
  should
shift to 2nd, it just stays in 1st. Any
  suggestions on
what could be the cause are appreciated.

 Don't hesitate. I had a deal on a 66 SS and had already had a 50% deposit
on it and the guy wanted to deliver it several hundred miles for me. All
this was a deal on a handshake He actually loaded the car and got
within five miles of my house and called me and told me that he just
couldn't part with the car. Yes he refunded the money that I had given
him
but HELL I wanted the car not the money. Some people have no
integrity.
The sad part about it is that I know for a fact that the car is back
sitting
in the field rotting. What a friggin waste.

Sooo the moral of the story is get some money together and get over there
and cut a deal and drag it or drive it or push it home. Whatever it takes
 get it.

Yes, Brad after looking up some of the *scary* Better Business Bureau

to go with a GM or an Edelbrock new one (and thereafter look into having
my original one rebuilt *locally* once I get it off the car swap a new
one in!).

Tom, I'm under the impression you're doing a restoration

the options Jim Hunter's considering), and for rebuilds
you might start with your local Yellow Pages and also
check Hemmings Motor News for rebuilders. Good luck!

Was it a people's choice show? It’s certainly a
little easier to win at one of those shows if you have ab unch of friends there
who will vote for you. Judged shows are ostensibly impartial and based on the relative
merits of the vehicle rather than the owner.

When he gets there, the guy says no trailered cars. He reads all the rules, and it doesnt say anywhere that it cant be trailered. After a big argument, the guy finally let him in, but it couldnt be judged. Turns out, the jerk that wouldnt let him in, had a 67, and my friends 67 was alot better. He just didnt want to lose. Shows how messed up some people are. But in the end, my friend got him back, buy leaving a huge cloud of tire smoke in his face on the cruise lolbut i just remember that story...Mines no show stopper, just a daily driver, so i just go to chat and have fun!

bigger than the 1/4 so it's all still there. (They'll obviously require some
tome to remove nicely, but time, I can manage!) I am going to use them on
my ragtop so I will have to cut them up anyhow. $200 for the pair! I also got a

didn't get rained on! Couldn't have asked for more!
