Harbor Freight has the tool. I just bought one the other day and used it last night. I took a picture of it and tried to attach it, but the pic didn't got through. Anyway, if anybody wants to see it just send me an email me and i'll shoot you the pic. [Chevelle-List] source for T-56 transmissions
I am in the market for a T-56 gearbox. A guy with a local Chevy dealership can sell me a refurbished one for $1,300 (basically built off a broken core). Does anyone have any other experience with sourcing T-56 gearboxes? Used would be fine. I would like to find one in the LA/Orange County area. Re: [Chevelle-List] Front Windshield 67 Chevelle
Let me rant on here for a moment about Pros installing windshields. My 69 that I have been trying to get done, I bought the windshield last year and just got around to having it put in in the end of September of this year. I had a guy come out from a local Safelite place come out and install it while I was at work, mistake number one. i came home and the job the guy did was so effing horrible, I could have done it better myself. There were globs of urethane ALL OVER the place. When I say this, I mean it was stickin gan inch or better in some places past the trim, especially in the lower right corner. UNACCEPTABLE. My dad went down to the shop and told the manager that they were going to take it out and do it again the right way. I had to take a day off work and take the car down there. When i dropped it off, the manage! r saw it and was basically saying I can't believe this mess. He said I would have to leave it there for the day and come get it in the afternoon. Fine, so I backed it off the trailer, went home and drove up to Trenton to get the historic tags for it. while in Motor Vehicle getting my tags, the guy calls me and tells me they broke the windshield taking it out. I was like well guess what, I'm not paying for a new one b/c you broke it taking it out. Their policy was that they are not responsible if the glass breaks and THEY DID NOT SUPPLY it. Well I feel a little differently here. The glass would not have to be removed if the employee did not make a mess installing it right??? So how is this my fault or the glasses fault for that matter? Had it been done correctly the first time, this would not have happened. I mean seriously, they are supposed to be professionals and I know for a fact I can take out a windshield and not break it, I've done it. So the next day I said screw it and since I know someone that works for Pilkington Glass, I called him up the next day and had a new windshield that afternoon. After being given the run-around by the local and regional managers of Safelite, a call was made to the corporate headquarters out in Ohio. Long story short, I got my money back for the windshield and the $63.60 it cost to install it. Moral of the story, (I feel like Aesop here, lol) if you have someone else install it, stay with the car so you can see that it gets done right. It seems everytime I need to depend on someone else to do something, it turns into a nightmare. When I start on my 69 Charger, I'm doing it all, no one else is touching it, lol. OK rant over. Tom

Title: Message I bought the same tool from my local auto paint supply store. Broke my windshield getting it outbut it was my first time. Didn't do anything drastic ...it just cracked and once it did ...it was all over. It spread quickly at the slightest movement..in many directions. I hope this explanation is good enough to understand. If someone wants to see the tool, I can send them a pic of it. Or if you are interested, I can try to find out who sells them. Re: [Chevelle-List] windshield question
On my 71 Chevelle, I called a glass shop to come and install a new front windshield and re-install the old rear glass. He installed the new front windshield with the urethane. He told me to purchase the rope at a local paint supply house and install the rear window myself. The front glass looks like cramp. We did the back like he said with the rope and it looks good. I do not know why he did not use the rope on the front. The rope is very easy to use and is very nice. If you use the rope, you need to seat the glass to the rope by very lightly tapping with a rubber mallet. Use only a rubber mallet and very light tap. There might be a reason why glass shops use the urethane on the front glass. I would ask more questions. Re: [Chevelle-List] windshield question
I had a body shop fully restore the sheetmetal on my 1968 SS396 last year and it turned out to be the best body restoration in the area in awhile, probably due to me dropping large amounts of cash and labor into the project. What's the problem? I let the body shop reinstall the front & rear glass and they used urethane only- no rope. Results were a sunken windows, misaligned exterior trim (gaps and non-consistent alignment with the glass), plus the urethane was pressed outside the edge of the trim and was visible! After $15,000 in body work, the shop refused at first to repair this. They said NOBODY uses the rope spacers anymore and if they tried to pull the glass, they might damage the new paint on the dash/body. I did persuade the owner to redo the glass (still no rope, though) by getting estimates from the local glass shops and informing the body shop that another failure and I would take the car to a professional glass shop and they would pay! Moral of the story: I still don't know if I should have insisted on a rope spacer, but most restoration mechanics I have since talked to said rope spacer (of proper diameter!) as well as urethane caulk from rope to outside will maintain proper glass alignment for consistent trim installation, weatherproof seal, and no hint of sealer and most of the time rope can be seen from inside or outside! And never, never use the wire or the knife to ply with against the glass. You are guarantee to break it. Also if you push too hard on one side, guarantee to break it. The main thing w/ this method is to spread out the force (use both hands) and don't push too hard. If it doesn't want to go, don’t force it. Cut away as much of the seal as you can and use gentle pressure. [Chevelle-List] body to frame mounts w/ hardware
Sorry to send this to the Chevelle list but it has bounced sending it to "oldcarnetwork" for the last 2 days and I want john to know that something is wrong and also to make sure he gets it before he ships my order. Thanks for any inconvenience this might cause any one John, I have talked to some guys here and they have basically told me the same thing about these polyurethane bushings. If it isn't too much trouble and you would be so kind as to do so, I would be so appreciative if you would change them to the rubber ones. I am in no hurry for them as I still have to do a lot more work on the engine and tranny before I set the body back down on the frame. I just want them here when I am ready for them. Next week will be more than good for me. Thanks for your help and input. I will be getting more from you I am sure. Happy Thanksgiving to you also!!! Ðäññÿ ..

Re: [Chevelle-List] Classic Industries
I do believe the owner of Classic Industries is the brother of the owner of OPG. I was told this is why they do not sell chevelle parts. Larry (z)
