The story is that their father (all three members are brothers) is a hot-rod
mechanic and his favorite ride was the Chevelle (my guess is the 67 SS396 -
yummy). With the passion that they found with their father and Chevelles, they
decided to name their group that.

I have both albums, which I find very musically and emotionally inspiring.
It's very rare these days to find such music, even though Chevelle might be
compared to some of the mainstream Emo/Alternative/Metal bands now. But
there's something special about them. For anyone that is interested, their
website is http://chevelleinc.com/ .

2002-12-12 Thread Fleshead
OK, I Previously cooked the brakes due to the front disc brakes locking up. I have replaced the Calipers and still no fluid coming through. I checked the steel lines and there also was no fluid coming through. At the suggestion of this board I am in process of replacing master Cylinder. There is an extra "Block" or "Valve" that is bolted on with the MC at the power brake booster. The front reservoir attaches to this "block/Valve" and goes on down to the proportioning block. The lines from the MC to this block/Valve are rusted or stuck so I ring off the short one which allows me to turn the block rather than the brake line head so I can remove the Block/valve.

What is this "Block/Valve"? Can I replace it? Where do I find it? I have seen front line kits that say 5 pieces but have not been able to see illustrations. One thing I have not seen is anything other than the Proportioning block. I want to replace every part on these brakes so I know I will have no other problems.

Herb, did you build up the trans or did you put it
in stock? If you did build it up, what did you do to it? Did you do anything to
the converter, does it lock up? Everything that I have been seeing here and
other places is that people were having problems with snapping the input shafts
to the trans. Also without a computer in my '70 will it work properly. I know
that I'm asking a lot of questions, just trying to get as much info as possible
before I actually tear it down and I would be able to drive it until I finish

I swapped a 700R4 into my 76 Vette about 6 or 7 years ago and I think it
was one of the best changes I made to that car - to this day that trans works
like a charm and with 3.70 rear gears Iget 21 mpg on the highway.

One thing to keep in mind, especially if your car has ashort
wheelbase(like a Vette) the Gearvendersadds length to the trans,
and from the pictures I've seen, the extra length looks like quite a
bit.

Well, I was to pick up my body and doors this
morning from Carponents but things went from bad to worse. I reserved the same
trailer I used 4 weeks ago to take the car to the dipper but when I got there
they said my Sonoma was too small to pull and stop with that trailer. I have the
tow package and a class 3 hitch. Arguing did no good. So, I rented a 14' truck.
This should be big enough, right? I only need 12' for the body. I pulled up to
the shop and there was my car sitting on the dolly held up by forks on the
hi-lo. I open the door to the truck and I had a fit. There is about a 2.5' box type shelf at the back of the truck. We
measured the length and it came to 11'3". Now I'm not only embarrassed but fit
to be tied. I paid the guy to try and save some face for being stupid for not
looking inside the truck before I took it. Now I have to get it Sunday. I had to
put $10 in the truck gas tank and paid $68 for the rental and I still don't have
the car. The only consolation to allthis, is that the car looks better
than I thought it would.(no hidden sins orcancer)When I get it, I'll
post some before and after pictures.

every resto parts supplier has those IE Ground Up, Year One, OPG, etc. The proportioning valves rarely go bad and the distribution block really can't go bad either unless it has rust in it which is highly unlikey. If I were you, I would replace all of the hard lines, hoses, Master Cylinder and take the prop valve and distribution block and blow them out with compressed air. After you blow them out, then pour some new brake fluid in them and blow them out again to flush out any contaminants.

The combo one is called a combination valve believe it or not :) They
sell for about $60.00 and can be purchased from any of the resto.

the prop. valve or the dist. block to go bad.

There are actually 8 hard lines in all for power disc brakes for

Step 1, get a large hammer.
Step 2, hit dents that stick out until they are going in.
Step 3, do whatever you usually do for dents that are going in.
 Process complete.

 Sorry, I couldn't resist.

   instead of going in,
whats the best way to get rid of those?
IF YOU CAN GET AT THE BACK OF THE DENT- JUST PUT A DOLLEY BEHIND IT AND
POUND IT FLAT FROM THE OUTSIDE-EITHER WITH A FLAT BODY HAMMER OR A PICK TYPE

2002-12-12 Thread Dan McIntosh
I will chime in on this thread. My 65 (all drum) had a rigid line going to
the back, a flex hose to connect the rigid line to the j-block, the j-block,
and 2 rigid lines going along the axle to either rear wheel cylinder. There
needs to be a tee fitting of some sort to split the line in two.

70-72 may be like that but on the 68 and 69 coupe the front to back hard
line screws directly into the flex line at the rear cross member. There
are no junction blocks or short lines. If that is the case in the 70-72
I have never seen anyone selling that block or short line either.

I forogt about the axle lines LOL, probably because I did not order
new ones, I made them myself. That actually makes 9 total then. On
factory disc brake cars, there is the long front to rear line, then
on the rear cross member, there is a little junction block. I really
do not know why it is there, but mine has it as well as every other
disc brake car I have seen. The long line goes into that then there
is a short hard line that goes from that block to the rear flex hose.

Dan,
On the 68-69 the tee is built into the distal end of the flex line.

Ed,
The combo one is called a combination valve believe it or not :) They
sell for about $60.00 and can be purchased from any of the resto.
companies or directly from GM. But like Tom said, it is very rare for
the prop. valve or the dist. block to go bad.

Ok...Now I have replaced the master cylinder and both front flexible brake lines as well as both front calipers. Still no pedal and no decent flow of brake fluid. Now the problem must be in either the proportioning valve or the distribution block. So I know that the lines to the prop valve up front are a problem as one wrang off and the other wanted to but I turned the valve instead. Then I go under the car to the "block" and I have similar problems on the front brake lines coming in. I would love to get the brakes at least working so I can move ther car to a lift..not happening This is now becoming a pain in the ass. I have owned numerous Chevys for the past 25 years and I have never had an obstructed brake line...
