Re: [Chevelle-List] Another El Camino Puzzle ?
I need some help. a club member has a 1972 El Camino which has 1969 tail lights in it? the el camino was built in Van Nuys. has anyone ever ran across this before? we have found no indication of body work in the tail light area. from what i understand 69 tail lights will not fit into the 72 without major modifications one other person has told me they have seen this before. The car has been inspected on a rack and taillights have been pulled. This is one that baffles me. any help would be appreciated Larry (Z)

depends on how many $$$ you are willing to spend. I have used Harland Sharp on two engines now and are happy. RE: [Chevelle-List] Another El Camino Puzzle ?
Larry, I cant imagine why that would require major modifications. The rear quarter panels are the same except that 69 has rear marker lights, and the tailgates are the same. The 70-72 tail lamp lenses also appear to be very similar in shape to the 68-69 lenses. The main difference is that from 70-72 the tail lamp bezels had a little reflective strip down the side, so the lens was a little bit narrower. The 70-72 lens is also a bit concave on the inside whereas the 68-69 lens is convex. It seems to me that a set of 1969 bezels lenses would fit right onto a 1972 w/ no problems, but you would need to change both the bezels and the lenses. [Chevelle-List] 1969 El Camino Custom vs. Standard
Here's what I know so far about the differences between the 69 El Camino Custom vs. Standard. The custom has: Malibu interior (well half of it) Malibu grill Wood-grain on tailgate Different tail light bezels (exactly what's different I'm not sure, but they are different part numbers) Does anybody else know of anything else that the El Camino Custom got and the Standard did not? Mine originally had front bumper guards on it as well, but I don't think those were necessarily on all of the Customs. RE: [Chevelle-List] Another El Camino Puzzle ?
One minor correction. I just looked at my 1969 bezels and they are not convex on both sides of the lens. They are convex on the long side and flat on short side. The 70-72 bezels look like they are concave on the long side and flat on the short side. I don't have a pair of those here though. I'm judging from a picture. I believe the long side is the outside. RE: [Chevelle-List] Another El Camino Puzzle ?
So, just for the heck of it, I opened up my Chevrolet El Camino Photofacts book, and there's a rear 3/4 shot of a 72 on page 39, and the tail lamps sure as heck look like 69's to me. It's definitely not a 69 either, because there are no rear marker lights and I can see enough of the front to be able to tell that it's different. John Nasta

RE: [Chevelle-List] 1969 El Camino Custom vs. Standard
Thanks Dale, that's awesome. I have the restoration kit and have been looking at it from here. I was very surprised to learn that only the Custom got the lower side moldings and that they all had Cortez Silver paint below the moldings. I decided to go w/ the short eyebrow moldings and no side moldings on mine even though it's a Custom. I guess I'll be skipping the silver paint then too. I also have an SS hood on it but it has a 283 in it and no SS badges. I'm not worried about originality on this one, but I'm always interested in this kind of stuff. Title: Message Dale, The Strike is usally started or called at targeted plants. one's there are critical and have the largest impact.on On the total co. So it would be stamping pland, or frame plant or Eng Transmission plant. So the yes it not a TOTAL GM SHUTDOWN and therecan be big mix up in dates ... I do rememeber that strike well. I needed front bumpers for my 67 Corvette and recived two tickest because I could not get them . Thanks Doug, I have conflicting info. You suspect late 69 and another contributor suggested late 70. RE: [Chevelle-List] GM Strike
Title: Message What brought the question up in my mind was I have a P-O-P for a 70 Chevelle that shows the engine and rear end built in October, the transmission in January but the car now being assembled until March. I just figured that's quite a difference in timefor the components - 5 months in the case of the engine and rear end. However, the major strike (by local 95) wasn't until later that year in September. Maybe it's just a fluke? BTW, I want to thank all that have contributed photos of trim tags and P-O-Ps so far for a new, upcoming Chevelle information site. Still missing some years, so any donations welcome! Re: [Chevelle-List] Auto Movers - Sacramento, CA to San Antonio, TX
Title: Message I've been following this thread and thought I'd add my two cents... Being in the military means I move quite a bit and having a bunch of cars makesmoving an interesting experience. Instead of paying a moving company to move my cars I looked into renting a U-haul (junk) trailer. U-haul wanted $700+ for a one way rental. Since I needed to move 3 cars at the time and go back for the 4th later, spending $1400 to rent a trailer didn't make sense. So instead of lining U-haul's pockets with my money,I went out and bought a trailer. It was a brand new tandem axle, came with an aluminum diamond plate toolbox andelectric brakes. Total cost was $1600. The initial outlay of cash didn't feel too good, but it was probably some of the best money I've spent. Since I bought the trailer two years ago, I've used it at least a dozen times for a variety of things. The $1400spent on renting a trailer would have been long gone, but now Ihave my own trailer whenever I need it. Re: [Chevelle-List] GM Strike
dale: in the summer of 1969 they went on strike. it was during the model change over. not sure about chevelle but Camaro had a new body style coming out and because the change over hadn't happened they kept making the 69. the 69 Camaro was made until DEC 1969. the new Camaro was then called a 70 1/2 and showed up in Feb of 70. i have heard of many 70 models (GMs) having parts made 4 or 5 months before assembly. also has anyone ever seen a chevelle from 68 I believe with BOP interior? Seems there was a shortage at some chevelle plants and instead of stopping production they used bop interior packages. Larry (z)

Re: [Chevelle-List] Holley parts
Vernon, The parts are the same size, and shape. These were originally on a Holley 600 vacuum secondary carb. with the single fuel inlet and the side float bowls. (Do not recall which one was installed in the front and which went in the back) At the time I changed to the center pivot bowls with dual feed, removed these "plates" that we've been talking about, and added a set of metering blocks with jets. When you talk to the Holley tech rep, make sure you have the part numbers off the carburator.
