Re: [Chevelle-list] Rear Wheel Size
If you go to 9 inch wheels you will need at least 5.5 inches of backspacing. Tens will require minor surgery. > From: "65ss.com" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > The biggest that I've been able to confirm is an 8" with 4 1/2" offset. < Can't help on 10" wide wheels; but I don't think you can make 8" rims w/ 41/2" BS work with a 64 or 65 unless it's raised or wheelwells are not stock. (or go undersize on tires) My wagon has 15x8 w/5" BS with BFGoodrich 265/50-15 tires. Beware of folks who mismeasure wheels. An 8" rim is 8" between beads but usually comes out close to 9" outside to outside. Thus I've had guys try to tell me their 7" rims are 8's. Oddly, especially at flea markets when they were trying to sell them. hmm. Check the Team Chevelle "Wheels and Tires" forum and it's archives: http://www.chevelles.com/forum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=8 Search for 64 and 65, backspace, what fits, etc. This has come up before. Watch out for wheel and tire dealers who don't fully understand the 64 and 65's tight wheelwells. Good luck. Pete Pete Geurds Douglassville, PA

Charles, I have no idea of what tires will fit but I saw on your site that you planned buying interior parts from a company that at least to me looks like a total mess, watch out ! Try contacting Trevor or John on this list or Ground-up or NPD and they will for sure help you out in a better way than those others, you'll have to check prices Btw welcome to the list. RE: [Chevelle-list] Rear Wheel Size
I know that 17x9.5 w/5.5" backspaced wheels and 285x40 tires will work on the rear of a 65 El Camino. See http://home.comcast.net/~bates150/images/dad/elky1.jpg. Not my car but I'm documenting such wheel/tire combos on one of my websites, http://www.chevellestuff.com and the owner of this truck was kind enough to donate the information. Re: [Chevelle-list] Remove Me*
One would think if someone was computer savy enough to join a mailing list, they should be smart enough to be able to get off. People just don't one day turn on a computer and join mailing lists. If you think about it, you need to do some web searching on the subject of Chevelles to find this place. That indicates to me that thay are not virgins to the computer I don't have much tolerance for folks who join and don't read the instructions. Yes the printed instruction we post, are posted at the expense of the person who CAN'T GET OFF THE LIST. Thats why we post it! Don't you think a Master Sargent in the Armed Forces should be bright enough to be able to remove himself from this extreme high tech mailing list without lambasting the folks who give him some good natured ribbing. and if you feel sorry for the guy who's work e-mail is filling up with Chevelle list mailings and panics because he might get in trouble, maybe he's the one that should have his job out sourced because he should have been working instead of jacking around in this mailing list. anyway, some random thoughts on that subject, And I too wish the snow and ice would go away. RE: [Chevelle-list] shop advice
I did contact Superflow here in Europe some years ago, we were a couple of friends looking at the possibility to buy an engine dyno together to be used mostly on a hobby basis but of course to earn some money to pay back our savings. All I requested was a catalog and a price sheet, and they sent me info about all their products and a CD-rom with a program demo as well. The only bad thing is that the seller on the European market was really aggressive and did call me several times even if I had already told him that there was no longer a deal. I do not know the quality of their products. Or a list that is related to this info. I am putting together a business plan to borrow several million dollars and I need to know what kind of the equipment that I will need to work on these modern day cars. What kind of scope or engine analyzer is the best in the business? Who makes the best dynameters. What computer systems and software works best for an automotive shop environment. Any input that would give me some ideas on what you would do if you had plenty of money and the desire to do something like this. Also if there is a page that would give some kind of lay out of a floor plan that would make a very efficient high class looking shop, I would love that also. Thanks for any and all input. Ðäññÿ .. I can understand the frustration of those trying to get off the list. I've been on here almost since the beginning. Re: [Chevelle-list] Royal Purple oil
Bill/Harlan, Thanks for the input on the Royal Purple oil. Bill, glad there's no more motor problems. Harlan, thanks for your input as well, yes Royal Purple is a synthetic and supposedly a good one at that. The only thing I have heard not to do with synthetic oil is use it for break in of a new motor, I've heard you should put some miles on with conventional oil before switching to synthetic. But why then do all the new Corvettes and I think Vipers too come straight from the factory with Mobil 1? Don't know. I'm defiantly changing to Royal Purple before I get the Chevelle out in the spring. I'll let you know if I see any changes. Bob (They have an extensive web site but I dont have a link handy. Sorry)
Re: [Chevelle-list] Visit to AZ
Wayne, I liked the area when I was out there. Lots of history to the area, including Tombstone. Tombstone is a pure tourist trap but I thought it was fun. Fort Huachuca (pronounced Waa-chooka) was the home of the Buffalo Soldiers and they have a little museum that is self guided and takes no more than an hour to see. If the wife likes turquoise she will be in the right area. Lots of turquoise shops and I found them to be relatively cheap. There is also a great Mexican restaurant, whose name escapes me, on the main drag. All the locals should know the name. Its a family run place.
