[Chevelle-list] Thousands of Vehicles Seized and Destroyed
This is a take off on the ridiculous pit bull other dog bans going on in what used to be the USA. (This is not True YET!) Joe Citizen stared in confusion at his buckled and broken garage door. Missing from within was Joes prized muscle car, a 1970 Cuda, he affectionately refers to as Red. Earlier today police officers, under the direction of a bicycle mechanic, arrived at Joes home in the neighborhood of Unbelievable, a subdivision within the Dumber city limits. The bicycle mechanic cut the locks off of his garage and police hauled Red away. Red was taken to the city impound facility .If Joe cannot find someone from outside the city to give his car a new home within 72 hours, Red will be destroyed. In the past year over a thousand cars have been declared dangerous and destroyed by the City Of Dumber. Empowered by a new city wide ban on muscle cars, authorities may enter a residents property to remove and destroy their vehicle if it is determined to be a muscle car or has the propensity to be a muscle car. City bicycle mechanics have been assigned the task of determining which cars are muscle cars and can direct police to confiscate those vehicles without the annoying and time consuming process of acquiring a judges warrant. Solemnly toeing an oil spot the floor Joe shakes his head in disbelief, muttering over and over, I dont understand? How can they do this? How can they come into my home and take my property without a warrant, without any proof of illegal activity? Well Joe, heres how. Last year, while muscle car enthusiasts were busy enjoying themselves at car shows, drag races and swap meets, the Dumber City Council was passing a ban on the ownership of these vehicles. The new city ordinance outlaws not only the ownership of muscle cars it includes cars that appear as if they might have muscle car parts and cars that might be capable of performing as muscle cars. After Councilman Dee Imwits second cousins brothers sister-in-laws child was involved in an accident with a muscle car, Imwit spearheaded a fact-finding mission to determine just what threat to the public was posed by muscle cars. After reading many tabloid and sensationalist media publications and visiting the website of the national organization, People Against People Owning Stuff That Scares Us, otherwise known as P.A.P.O.S.S.U., the councilman says his mission became clear. According to Imwit and a majority of the Dumber City Council, recent studies prove that muscle cars are involved in a percentage of accidents within the city limits. Some of these accidents have even involved the death of citizen. Councilwoman Ima Follower gave her reason for supporting the ban. These things (muscle cars) are a public safety nightmare, said Follower. I mean, they have these big huge engines and theyre all wrapped in steel. One of these muscle cars runs into a Toyota and its like a shark hammering into a mullet! Councilman M.E. Too, up for re-election next month, had this to say. I saw one of these things at the drag races. The way it whipped its tail back and forth waiting for the green light, it looked just like a shark, it was really scary. Wow, when the light changes these muscle cars just go off! Some go 90mph and some 150mph, they really are unpredictable and thats really scary! Councilman Too adds that his concern is for the publics safety. We have to be proactive about these things, said Too. Speaking of the provisions that included vehicles with muscle car parts and vehicles that appeared to be capable of performing like muscle cars, Imwit and the Council stated that the bicycle mechanics would ensure that only those cars that posed a threat to the public would be destroyed. Council members believe that the bicycle mechanics knowledge of rotating things and chains and peddles gives them the experience needed to make the hard call as to which cars are really muscle cars and therefore dangerous and need to be destroyed. According to Imwit, These bicycle mechanics are really sharp on this automobile stuff. They see the results of cars crashing into bikes all the time. Besides, theyre a whole lot cheaper to hire than real V-8 mechanics. We, the Council, thought it was a good way to not only protect the publics safety but to save the taxpayers some money at the same time. Head Bicycle Mechanic and Muscle Car Enforcement Officer Al Carzuck said impounding and destroying vehicles that resembled muscle cars was also important for the publics safety. Carzuck stated in our interview, These cars may not be registered as muscle cars but, believe me, they can be just as dangerous. In the wrong hands, with the right modifications, they can be just as deadly as a real muscle car. Theyre like killer sharks. We have to watch out for the publics safety. Meanwhile at Whadaheck St., Jane Average gazes sadly at the place her sons sandbox used to be. Yea, I know it looked sorta like a Camaro, said Jane, but inside
Re: [Chevelle-list] odometer mileage adjusting
I dont know about a Chevelle Speedometer, butI had a 1978 Ford Pickup, you could remove the speedometer and take it apart very easily. You then look at the back. There is a pressed in pin or rod that holds the gears against the odometer number wheels. The pin or rod could be carefully tapped out, and the numbers moved any way you wanted them. The problem is..making sure the alignment of the numbers is correct. Then, all you have to do is reinstall the rod. After doing it several timesits pretty easy. It takes probably less than 30 minutes or less. Re: [Chevelle-list] GAUGES
I called Shiftworks and upgraded my standard sweeper speedo to gauges. 200 dollars or so was the cost. You order the upgrade kit with a true ammeter or a volt meter. The pressure gauge is a real pressure guage with copper tubing to the gauge. Now, on the idiot lights, you can do many things with them. The brake light stays bit the others can do almost anything you want if you change the red mylar lense. Remove the silkscreen and make it what ever you want. How about a shift light or alarm light if you installed an LED in a black mylar lense cover. Anything suttle and trick would be helpfull to the driver. mike --- Jimmy C. I never took my Mark VIII fan set-up out of the box,Al,so I can't give you anymore particulars at the moment. Was going to use a DC Controls controller to activate the fan but never got around to buying one. The only reason I sold my fan was my car cools very well with the stock shroud and VA clutch fan set-up on the Frontrunner. Will probably buy another Mark VIII set-up when I build a new engine for the car. Tell your wife I said you two were going to have a great time at Chevellabration. The 305 already has the 3.48 stroke of the 350. A 350 uses a 4" bore block. Since a 305 uses a smaller bore, making a 350 out of one would be hard expensive. The car did go off at 125,000. BJ may be adding the commission to come up to 135. The car was nice but not 125,000 nice. At BJ you have to add the ego factor. Re: [Chevelle-list] Barrett Jackson
Wow, I have a super nice 66-396-375-4spd with 45,500 origional miles. For half of the BJ sale price I might consider selling it.(not really) My son is the second owner of an origional, beautiful 68 hemi Charger. Gulp, what would that bring at BJ. gm66 --- Dale [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: Dale [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Fri, 20 Jan 2006 09:37:50 -0600 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED],'The Chevelle Mailing List' Chevelle-list@chevelles.net Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Barrett Jackson The 66SS was suppose to be a 10K mile original and highly optioned; 4-spd, 360hp, etc. I thought it was $125k as well but the BJ website says $135k (lot 731 - http://www.barrett-jackson.com/auctionresults/common/bj06results_s10.asp if that's the same car). Maybe sometimes underwriters aren't all that naïve. Many cars there are bought from the heart and not the head. Except for reported mileage there was nothing really that special about the car, IMHO. Re: [Chevelle-list] electric fan or stock type flex fan? ? for Clint Hooper
Ever heard of the Desert radiators. They are really cool,no pun intended. Really cool running rad's. gm66 --- Clint Hooper [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: Clint Hooper [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Fri, 20 Jan 2006 08:54:42 -0600 To: The Chevelle Mailing List Chevelle-list@chevelles.net Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] electric fan or stock type flex fan? ? for Clint Hooper I never took my Mark VIII fan set-up out of the box,Al,so I can't give you anymore particulars at the moment. She won't regret attending the event. My ? is for you Clint if I remember you have one? Did you set it up for the 2 speeds or did you set it up for hi speed. my thoughts are to set it up to come on at 155 or so at high speed and put a switch in /extra to turn on the low speed at any time I want. or to set it up for the low speed to come on when the car starts and on high at 155. what do you think or anybody else. I am glad to admit that I am now an official member and not just on the list. Also on the wife thing that came up before I was talking to my wife about the chevelleabration. She blew me away. Out of the blue She said She would like to go but she would like more info.on it. I just hope I can get done my work on it before spring. I got hurt at work, my shoulder they the docts said that I have a small tear in my rotator and I tore something in my ac joint. I go in on the 25 to see what they decide to do about it. sorry about the being long winded but I am excided now about the chevelleabration. A Lincoln Mark VIII electric fan set-up will cool just about anything,Al. They flow over 4600cfm. Another option is to ditch that flex fan,get a six or seven blade fan from Vintage Air,and run it with a good clutch unit. I can not decide on going with an electric fan or get a new fan shroud and stay with the flex fan I have now. I have a 70ss built 454 with an auto trans. If I go with an electric what size and how many should I go with and should I use a set temperature sensor for it or should I use an adjustable one. Any suggestions/ input on what you guys use. right now my shroud is shot and on hot days with allot of idling it gets hot 240 to 260. With a Mark VIII fan set-up,buying a better radiator usually isn't necessary. Likely true but why add more things that can fail just when you need them. Re: [Chevelle-list] electric fan or stock type flex fan? ? for Clint Hooper
You missed my point which is the biggest radiator in the world won't be the answer unless you have enough air circulation/flow. Most of the stock radiators in our cars are fine,,they just don't work sometimes people install substandard flex fans, remove shrouds, etc. Clint Hooper HH Custom, owner 1969 El Camino ProTourer 2001 H-D FLHR custom bagger http://dalesplace.com/misc/friends/clint/clint_hooper.htm - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Likely true but why add more things that can fail just when you need them.
