Re: [Chevelle-list] Dipstick Tube
I'm confusied, how do you seat the tube to the block? Lightly tapping on the wrench? Yup.. you got IT . You insert the tube into the wrench and slid the wrench down till it hits the expanded seat/seal. You then use your weapon of choice to TAP.. read TAP the WRENCH to seat the filler tube. And double checking visually sure the Expanded portion is flush with the block surface. [Chevelle-list] F/S 1969 Station Wagon NOS tailgate emblem
I have a NOS Chevrolet tailgate nameplate for a 1969 A-body Station Wagon (may also fit other years) still in the GM box. The part# is 8701011. I bought it for my El Camino and found out about a year later that it was not right for my application (the EC one is bigger). $10 + shipping if anybody wants it. Otherwise it goes on ebay. Re: [Chevelle-list] Engine Mount Question
Title: Message Great shots of the height! I wonder if the difference is in the effective location of the mounting holes once both are bolted to the frame. Do you still have both mounts available? If so, can you line them up with a long bolt going through both to get them in the same position, and then see if the holes for the engine mount bolt are in the same location. I wonder if the big block mount as bolted into place would put the engine mounts in a lower position? Does any of this make sense? On a side note, anyone have a pair of small block and big block mounts for 66/67 that can lay them flat on the floor and measure the two heights? I know there was a recall on all Chevrolet mounts in the 60s I believe due to the drivers side engine mount (rubber one that bolts to the block itself) tending to break and possibly causing the throttle to stick open. First solution was a cable unit applied to the drivers side engine mount. Later the engine mounts were designed with a locking tab to stop the engine from coming off the mount if it broke. My Chevrolet parts book (circa 1971) also has the locking mounts as dealer replacements and to use the big block frame mounts when doing so. This could be why a lot of small block Chevelles have big block frame and engine mounts. Dale McIntosh 67 El Camino 1967 ChevelleReference CD http://www.chevellecd.com ACES #1709/TC Gold #92

When they get here, I will do a complete photo study with both BB and SB chassis mounts and engine mounts coupled and separately. Of course I'm not trying to step on David's toes here, but I need to really compare everything anyway, so I might as well document it and permanently post pictures for future reference for everyone. Title: Message I will start by saying that I am new to the list and would like to ask in advance for your patience if I am posting a question that is inappropriate for this list. I would also appreciate someone letting me know if it is not an appropriate question. I joined the list just a few days ago after finding the web site while doing some searches on Google. Once I joined I was amazed at the amount of talent and information that existed within this group. I am trying to find a 1969 Chevelle SS-396 to purchase and have been looking and searching for some time to try and locate the right car. I know what I want and have found a few cars that would come close howeverthe fact that I am a novice ultimately undermines my confidence in pulling the trigger on purchasing a car. Does anyone within the group know of someone that is familiar with 69's that would not mind consulting with me regarding my hopeful purchase. Additionaly, I would not expect this type of help without gladly agreeing to pay a pre arranged fee. Again, please accept my appologies if this is an inappropriate question. Re: [Chevelle-list] Pilot Bearing and Clutch Ball Stud
Parts book shows 64-72 Chevelle clutch fork studs to be #3729000 13/16-16 with 21/32 diameter ball. Passenger cars use 3790556 which is 3/16-16. Pilot bearing I think only goes in one way. If youre using a bronze bushing I think one side is tapered just a bit and that goes towards the transmission or facing out of the crank. Been a while since I messed with a manual trans. My perfect car is the one I had in high school (1970-1974) a 69 Chevelle SS-396 (not sure hp I had) Lemans Blue hard top with white vinyl roof and two racing stripes down hood and trunk with white pin stripes on the side. While my car had bench seats, black interior and column shift automatic I would like to have what I always wanted the car to have, bucket seats and 4 speed transmission. Would like to find one with factory air as I don't imagine I will be as concerned about racing it now as I was then but rather be more concerned with my wife being happy with air conditioner. I believe the car would really have looked better with a white interior for seats and that's what I would like now as I am probably better equipped to take care of them. Danny, finding this car is probably like looking for a needle in a hay stack however that is the perfect car for me. I just want to try to find one as close to this configuration as possible. As far as price I am fairly flexible based on the quality of the car in relation to what it is worth. I am open to a fully restored car done by a quality restoration facility or a really clean car that would be fun to own and drive. In dollar terms say from 15,000 to 50,000. This could be why a lot of small block Chevelles have big block frame and engine mounts.Dale McIntosh 67 El Camino 1967 ChevelleReference CD http://www.chevellecd.com ACES #1709/TC Gold #92 Yahoo! Re: [Chevelle-list] Buying 69 Chevelle
Title: Message Steve, I bought a rust bucket Malibu and hope to be going to paint soon. I believe the one gentleman was right, that the stripes on the hood were not a factory option on the 69's although who knows with special orders. Also, with your long list of specific items, chances are slim of you finding that exact car. One thing to consider is that an SS clone is a very easy thing to fake for the model year 1969 since you can't tell by the VIN if it was an SS or Malibu, or"plain jane". However, there are some cases where the color of the car can prove it was an SS from the factory. You'll pay a premium for a true SS, and if it's that easy to fake by throwing in a bigger engine and a few emblems, is it really that big of a deal? Rust in the window corners, trunk pan, floor pans, floor support braces, and quarters needing to be replaced are very common on cars that haven't gone through a complete restoration. Here's my point. Find a really nice Malibu and take it to a trusted body shop for an evaluation before you buy it. Get a complete eval and what it would cost to make it exactly like what you want it to be with a nice new quality paint job. Also consider some upgrades like disc brakes and better suspension as well as all new weather stripping. Get the engine built like you want it, or better yet, get a new crate 454 or if you have the bucks, get a new LS7 aluminum 427 small block. Put a 5 speed overdrive Tremec tranny behind it, and a rebuilt posi 12 bolt rear with 3:73 gears and cruise til the cows come home. If you need to deviate from factory stock anyway to get what you want, wouldn't that be a better way to go? No worries about being "correct" and modify it any way you want! Now, if it's a factory correct, numbers matching, documented factory SS car that you just have to have, then buy one fully restored as it's cheaper than restoring one.if you can find what you wantand then don't modify it or else ...what's the point? Have you been looking at the classifieds at www.chevelles.com? A quick search found this one: http://www.chevelles.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=2529sort=1cat=21page=1 All of the 69's are here: http://www.chevelles.com/classifieds/showcat.php?cat=21 Where are you located? If you find a car that appeals to you, you should be able to enlistsomeone locally, from the list or Team Chevelle ( http://www.chevelles.com/forums/ ) to look at it with/for you. Good luck in your search. On 3/16/06, Steve Haines [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Danny; Thanks for your response and comments. Due to business commitments I don't have a lot of spare time and am not really mechanically inclined but do enjoy driving the cars and being around people and events that share the same passion.
