Re: [Chevelle-list] Timing Light
That's one trick timing light! How does it know what the mechanical advance is at idle? The way my dial up light works is you dial the desired timing, you bring the engine RPM up past where your mech. advance is all in (on my engine it is 2800) and you adjust the dist. until themark on the balanceraligns with TDC/ 0 degrees. Re: [Chevelle-list] Timing Light
Ditto Mike ?? Why the addition of a Tach meter either included or stand alone is needed to map out both the vacuum and mechanical in Degrees and at what RPM. You are able to verify initial timing setting with the dial back advance set to your desired degree and strobe flash at the DTC 0 deg mark. That's a great story!!! Congratulations, you won one. -Original Message- From: D.R. Jones [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: May 8, 2006 4:18 PM To: chevelle-list@chevelles.net chevelle-list@chevelles.net Subject: [Chevelle-list] Phoenix Transmission Read the following and you will see why I am so high on Phoenix Transmission in Weatherford, TX. and do recommend them to anyone. Went this morning and picked up my 72 Monte Carlo from Phoenix in Weatherford. A few weeks ago while driving it about 50 mph the 200-4R pretty much locked up. I had purchased the trans in the year 2000 and installed it in 2002. The car had been driven 530 miles with this transmission. I loaded it on the trailer and took it to Phoenix last Tuesday and they called late Friday that it was ready. Now the warranty had long run out on just time so I didn't really know what to expect as far as cost for the repair. On arrival met with Scott, he is the one you will talk to when you take one in or pick one up. He explained that the problem was a defective part, the overdrive sprag had shattered throwing debris throughout the trans causing severe problem with pump, clutches, TC, and bearings as well as clogging up most of the passage ways. Course I'm thinking I'm going to hear about how long the warranty has been out and sorry but it will cost X amount. Scott explained what they had done was use the case and replaced everything with more up to date parts that are a lot better then what they had available in 2000. Then he said that everything was covered under warranty. But, he said they had put a Edelbrock bell crank on my carb to assist in adjusting the TV cable correctly so I owed $50 for that and I needed to move the cable a little to align it better and that my driveshaft was 1 too short and to replace it soon with the correct length, otherwise have fun driving it. I drove it home and I must say it is much better in shifting and going into overdrive. So I pretty much got a new transmission and a part installed that I was going to buy anyway for a total of $50. I am very happy. D.R. Jones

The wheels are high quality for a reasonable price. Wanted to pass that on to others looking as well. Devin

Two quick questions: Is a combination valve the same thing as a proportioning valve? Would a combination valve for a 1974 Malibu w/ front disc rear drums (part# 172-1351) fit a 1969 El Camino? There is also a separate listing for the Malibu Classic (part# 172-1354). Thanks, John Nasta

Electric guage...no kinked line. But you may have put teflon on the sender threads...a piece of that in the sender can make the guage read as low as 0. I keep a spare mechanical guage around just to test things. Hopefully it is the guage or sending unit. [Chevelle-list] Cowl Induction question
I was wondering if anyone knew if you can still use your cowl induction air cleaner if you use an Edelbrock dual-plane intake manifold (performer RPM) with a Holley carb instead of the factory single-plane one? Will there be enough clearance? If not, what if I did not re-use the factory spacer? It takes up about 2 inches. I'm running a short-deck big-block If I can't use this Edelbrock intake, is there one that I can use that has better flow than the stock factory one? Thanks, Steve

[Chevelle-list] Serpentine Belt Routing
Heya, I'm trying to piece together a serpentine system, and I'm having a heck of a time figuring out the routing and placement of the accesories. I have just a power steering pump and alternator, as well as the water pump, crank pulley, and tensioner. The p/s pump is low on the driver's side, and the alternator is directly above it. The tensioner is high on the passenger's side, above the valve cover. I have tried to find a diagram of the routing with no success. Can anyone recommend a webpage that can give me ideas? Do I need to mount the alt on the passenger's side? Get an idler pulley? It's an 89 305 TPI on a stand, soon to be in a 67. Thanks, Dave.
Re: [Chevelle-list] OT - Car Sale Question
I'd have to disagree with Clint, I've used PayPal for a lot of sales (as much as $4,000 per sale) for several years, and I've never had an issue. And Ebay discourages the use of cash or cash wire transfers. I lifted this from their site at http://pages.ebay.com/help/pay/payment.html Important: eBay does not recommend cash or cash wire transfers as a payment method. If you pay by cash, you do not receive protection under the eBay Standard Purchase Protection Program. You also do not retain any proof of your payment, and will have little to no remedy for transaction problems. Paying with Pay Pal PayPal is the preferred payment method for most eBay buyers and sellers. PayPal enables you to send payments quickly and securely online using a credit card or bank account. However, you should first check that the seller offers PayPal as a payment method for their listing. When you select PayPal as the payment method, you go to the PayPal site, where you can send your payment. If you do not already have a PayPal account, you can sign up for an account. At PayPal, you can choose how you would like to fund your PayPal payment (for example, using a checking account, credit card, or PayPal balance) and then send the payment. If you use PayPal, the seller may require a credit card billing address registered at PayPal, sometimes called a "confirmed" address. Advantages Payment is traceable. You can track the status of your payment using My eBay or your PayPal account. Is immediate and convenient. You pay directly from the item listing page and payment is deposited directly into the seller's account. Does not require you to use your credit card online (you can transfer directly from your bank account). Sellers don't see your credit card number (it is safely encrypted through PayPal's server), which limits the risk of unauthorized use. Offers PayPal Buyer Protection on qualifying items - up to $1,000 in free coverage. I have just a power steering pump and alternator, as well as the waterpump, crank pulley, and tensioner. The p/s pump is low on the driver'sside, and the alternator is directly above it. The tensioner is high on the passenger's side, above the valve cover.I have tried to find a diagram of the routing with no success. Cananyone recommend a webpage that can give me ideas? Do I need to mountthe alt on the passenger's side? Get an idler pulley? It's an 89 305 TPI on a stand, soon to be in a 67.Thanks,Dave. -- Rick Schaefer72 TPI El Camino-- Rick Schaefer72 TPI El Camino

But by God,you'll find me in a pile of brass." - Original Message - From: Devin I just recieved today a new pair of rear wheels for putting my slicks on. I custom ordered them from Pete Paulsen. Trying to find a 15x8 wheel with the proper backspacing for an early A-body in anything but steel is nearly impossible.I checked with all the major suppliers, including Stockton wheel and Wheel vintiques before making my decision, but all were at least 2 months out and considerably more money. The wheels are high quality for a reasonable price. Wanted to pass that on to others looking as well. Devin
