Yes, it's a very nice Vette. It goes like stink too! Oh, and $100k is just the starting price, the reserve is a bit higher. From: Herb Lumpp [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, May 21, 2006 4:25 PMTo: The Chevelle Mailing ListSubject: Re: [Chevelle-list] My specs, was: $ 12 bolt posi rear Mainly because I've always wanted a Jesel shaft rocker system, along with the added stability at high rpm. The cost was also a factor. The Jesel system was $699 compared to $417 for their Hi-tech stainless rockers plus $240 or more for stud girdlers. It seemed like the Jesel SS system was the better way to go. The only down side to the shaft system is it's harder to adjust the valves. The springs that came with the AFR heads were a perfect match to my roller cam and lightweight Schubeck lifters. Re: [Chevelle-list] 68 SS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
Turn everything off in your car. Disconnect the ground wire from your battery. Touch the cable lightly to the battery post and look for any sparking. (Sometimes a radio can draw a very slight amount of current for its memory if you changed to a newer style radio and a very small spark will be seen) If you see sparks you have a current draw somewhere. At that point disconnect the wire from the alternator and check the battery connection for sparking again. If there are no sparks your problem is in the alternator. Otherwise check things like your glove box light or trunk light. I also seem to remember reading something about having to use a diode to make the gen light work correctly with a single wire system. Bill Vander Werf - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Sunday, May 21, 2006 9:25 pm Subject: [Chevelle-list] 68 SS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. A couple of days ago I installed a single wire alternator. My old one was a stock 3 wire. Now when I go out to start my car the battery is totallydead. When I charge it up and drive it, the gen light is on. It's very diem and hard to see. I bought the painless wire kit which was just one wire from the alternator to the positive side of the battery. My auto gauge volt gauge is reading just a little under 14 volts when I'm drivingthe car.So I'm thinking the battery should be getting a charge. Anybody have any Ideas? Thanks ahead of time for any help.Dennis
Re: [Chevelle-list] 68 SS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
Dennis, Electrical gremlinsIf you are getting 14v with the motor running then the alt must be charging. After leaving it overnight.. then the car doesn't start in the morning? Somewhere the power is being used up. Take a look at all the wires you touched during the install. Try to figure out what is soaking your juice. Good luck...and post the fix when you find it... Thanks guys for your input. I'll go rent a spring compressor at Autozone. Larry - Original Message - From: Rick Schaefer To: The Chevelle Mailing List Sent: Monday, May 22, 2006 11:10 AM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Front Suspension - Brake Conversion Absolutely. You can borrow a compressor from an auto store, the compressed springs have too much stored energy to do without. It can be done without but its much more dangerous. There are several web sites available with complete details & pictures. A few are listed in the WORKSHOP section at http://links.chevelles.net/links . If you haven't bought the replacement parts yet, I'd highly recommend MOOG, TRW or DANA parts. The first time I did mine, I used kit parts that were "no name" I had to do it again 30-40K later. I believe that some of the kits include the good stuff. I bought all MOOG replacement items (ball joints, tie rods ) at Oreillys. They were in stock & reasonably priced. I would definitely try to borrow or rent a spring compressor setup. Re: [Chevelle-list] Front Suspension - Brake Conversion
Yes, Larry. Be super careful. Compress it down "some"! to the point where it's loose. Loosen the Castle nut on the upper Ball Joint. Bang on the spindle and it will fall off the taper. Finish the loosening and remove the spring. Immediately un-tension the spring. Don't leave it in the spring compresser. It's a killer with that much pressure. mikey --- Larry Shouse <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I'm getting ready to convert my 66 to disc brakes up > front.
