[Chevelle-list] rear carrier question

2006-11-05 Thread J. Brady
A friend of mine recently bought a carrier to put in
the 12-bolt rear in his Nova, and is trying to find
out what kind of carrier it is and what gears are
available for it.

He said the part # on the carrier reads 3869789.
Would anyone happen to know what this might be out of,
or what stage carrier it might be? He said the guy
who sold it to him said it came out of a Chevelle
rear, but he wasn't sure.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Jim...
Here is a couple links that I have found useful. I looked real quick but
didnt see the part number out listed but you can check them out anyway.
This arent Chevelle specific but the stamping on the carrier seems to hold
true throught GM rear ends. Hope this helps.

I appreciate it. I am curious where you have
yours mounted. I've seen a picture of one where it was positioned directly under
the master cylinder, with nothing more than the brake lines themselves holding
it in place. I would imagine most people have it mounted on the
frame?

Yeah, if you don't mind, I wouldn't mind
seeing a picture or two of your setup.

Thanks

Larry,

Ill snap some pictures today for yah. Mines right underneath the master
cylinder, held up by the lines. However I hear this is bad, because of the
p-valve jumping around, over time the lines will crack. There is a L bracket
that mounts right there, that you can actually bolt the p-valve to also. Or
you could always mount it low on the frame, which is what they did stock. Once
my camera batteries charge up I will send you some
pictures!

[Chevelle-list] Exhaust, mufflers?

2006-11-05 Thread TinIndian47

I am about ready to put exhaust on my 65 Chevelle, 327, hooker comp
headers, Lunati cam, 4 speed.I am at a loose as to what mufflers to
put on. I ran glasspacks on my 64, but that was 40 years ago. Now it seems as
Flowmasters are the way to go. Any ideas or help deciding as what to use, glass
packs or Flowmasters, and what Flowmaster would sound good. What do
you think about 2 1/2"" exhaust?

Also, does any one know of any swap meets around Houston any time soon?

Thanks, Darrell

I have Hooker Super Comp headers with 2.5" mandrel bent tubing. H pipe with
Flowmaster 40 series. A pretty popular setup, and for a good reason. Sounds
really good. Not too loud, but not too quiet either. They really open up when I
stomp on it.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Exhaust, mufflers?

2006-11-05 Thread Devin

I have Hooker Competition headers, Flowmaster 2 chamber mufflers, and
mandrel-bent 2.5 tailpipes on my BB. I had my muffler shop run the pipe
between the collectors and the mufflers, just before it goes over the
axle. The Flowmaster pre-bent pipes fit fairly well, the muffler shop was
able to use them without any modifications, although they are tight towards the
tires. Personally I am tired of the Flowmaster muffler sound, it seems as
though every kid with a V8 runs them. I bought mine about 8-9 years ago
before they got quite so popular.
